One of the questions I see online a bit is whether to use a script for your podcast.
Now, ignoring audio fiction for a moment, because obviously you want a script for that there's pros and cons to using a script for your show whether it's a solo show, an interview show, a co-host or anything like that. The pros obviously it keeps you on track so you've got all your questions ready to go, your talking points and everything in front of you so you don't really veer from the main topic.
However, the pro can also be its con - by having everything in front of you, you can lose that organic feel where you're just having a conversation and you're now reading from bullet points in front of you or questions in front of you. It also means that sometimes you're not listening to your guest, if you've got a guest on your show, because you're looking at the next question, as opposed to listening to your guest and then taking the conversation in the direction an answer takes you.
So, there's definitely pros and there's definitely cons, and really it comes down to your comfort zone. Do you feel comfortable reading from bullet points in a script? Or do you feel more comfortable with it being more organic, with the conversation going in a more organic direction? The choice really is yours. But it is a good idea to have at least some bullet points ready, and that way you will be able to keep the conversation on track. Until the next time, happy podcasting.
