I'm Danny Brown and you're listening to One Minute Podcast Tips, the show that helps you be a better podcaster in just a minute a week. If you want more specific tips just for you and your podcast, check out the Magic Mic membership at oneminutepodcasttips.com/support. And now, this week's episode. If you have a video version of your podcast, you're probably uploading it to YouTube, since that's pretty much the default destination for both consumers of content and creators.
Now Apple Podcasts does support video and they have done since 2005, but it's not really a big feature that they push. Spotify, on the other hand, have been pushing video podcasts for the last couple of years. But if you wanted to add video podcasts to Spotify, you either had to host directly with Spotify for Podcasters, use one of the few podcasts hosts that support video podcasting, or create a completely separate RSS feed just for your video.
That last option isn't a great user experience for listeners though, because it can create multiple listings of your show. However, that's changing, and it's now a lot easier to add video podcasts to Spotify, no matter where you host your podcast. To do this, you have to have a podcaster account with Spotify for Podcasters. Now, this is different from the hosting version.
They are called the same, so it's kind of confusing, but the Spotify for Podcasters you want to access is the podcaster portal for podcasters that don't host with Spotify. So when you have an account there, log in and go to your episodes tab. To the right of each episode listing, you'll see an ellipsis or three little dots. If you click that, you'll see the option to upload a video. Simply upload your video and Spotify will process it and offer it alongside your audio version.
It's really simple to do. Now there are some caveats. You're not allowed to have dynamic ads inserted into the video, nor will it support the Spotify Ad Network. You can have baked-in ads, just not dynamic ad insertion. Additionally, if you want analytics for the videos, you will have to get them from Spotify for Podcasters, they won't pull through to your podcast hosting company.
Now I have created a video walkthrough for this and if you go to oneminutepodcasttips.com/YouTube you can watch the exact steps to take there. It's a nice new addition for Spotify and it makes it a lot easier for you as a video podcaster to get your video version on Spotify as well. Until the next time, happy podcasting.
