Now, if you're not aware, Hill Hold Assist is where the car locks and won't move for two to three seconds when setting off uphill, specifically when using the foot brake instead of the handbrake. Now it's becoming more and more common in new cars and can cause learners some problems. Now, while using the handbrake deactivates a Hill hold assist, there are times when the handbrake isn't appropriate, so the other way to deactivate is simply to add gas.
As instructors, we all know there are some students who want to rush when the car in front starts moving or the lights change, or others who battle the fear of the driver behind. Well, Hill Hold Assist can make setting off even trickier when they want to move, but the car stays still. One way I found to help is by literally referring to as Hill Hold Assist, emphasizing the hold rather than just hill assist.
It helps them remember that they will hold in position, thus removing the surprise when they don't immediately set off. So hope you found this tip useful.
