Michele Stellato

Michele Stellato played Volleyball at Ramapo College of New Jersey from 2006-2009.  She was recently diagnosed with ALS at the age of 32 and has been inspiring in her fight against the disease, raising over $70,000 for research so far.   Michele talks about growing up in Rutherford, New Jersey, as the youngest of 3 girls, getting into volleyball through her sister Jess, and her great 3 sport career at Rutherford High School playing volleyball, basketball, and softball.  Michele discusses the recruiting process, how she sought out a spot on the team for Ramapo, and being able to play right away as a Freshman.  She describes her 4 year career there, being a great defensive player,  having a winning record every year, getting involved in coaching after graduation, and continuing to play volleyball in an adult league until the pandemic shut it down.  Michele then goes on to discuss her ALS diagnosis, the signs that led to it,  the shock she felt at first, why she and her family jumped into action to help raise funds and awareness,  her involvement with Project ALS, and her hopes to see more FDA approved medications and treatments in the near future.
