Episode description

Katie Cole was a walk-on turned scholarship player for the Notre Dame Women's Basketball Team from 2017-2020, and was a member of the 2018 National Championship team.  She talks about growing up in Toledo, Ohio, playing basketball with her older sister,  her great career at Sylvania Northview High School, and turning down several offers to play college basketball to attend Notre Dame as a student.  Katie discusses her Freshman year at Notre Dame as a normal student, playing basketball through intramural sports, and getting noticed during Bookstore Basketball.  She then talks about her decision to try out for a walk-on spot, what the try-out was like, how welcoming the team was, and what it was like going from normal student to Division I athlete.  Katie describes the 2018 season, playing quality minutes, her big time play during the 2nd Round NCAA Tournament game against Villanova, the Final Four in her home state of Ohio, and winning the National Championship on 2 game winning shots.  Katie explains why she couldn't play in 2019 due to a micro fracture in her knee, having to sit out for another great season where Notre Dame made the Final Four, and her rehab to get back for 2020.  She talks about Coach McGraw offering her a scholarship for her Senior season in 2020, how much it meant for her, and what it was like to be a rotation player.  Katie updates everyone on what she's up to now, her thoughts on playing for Head Coach Muffet McGraw, and how happy she is for new Notre Dame Coach, Niele Ivey.
