Episode description

Joy Smith (maiden name Joy Cheek) played basketball at Duke from 2006-2010, played in the WNBA and overseas, and has been coaching in college basketball since 2011, currently serving as an Assistant Coach for Clemson University.  Joy talks about being born in Maryland, but moving to North Carolina at a young age, how she got into basketball, having a father that was an NFL ref, and her great career at South Mecklenburg High School.  She describes the recruiting process, why she picked Duke, playing right away as a freshman, sticking with Duke when Head Coach Gail Goestenkors left, and her fantastic senior season that included winning the ACC Tournament.  Joy then talks about her professional career, starting her coaching career with Duke in 2011, then moving on to Ohio State, Vanderbilt, and now Clemson.  She details the great turnaround the Clemson program has had, and how she is continuing to work in this current quarantine.
