On this term working class history the seventh of January and on the seventh of January nineteen thirteen, a strike for the eight hour day began in Peru, two days after workers had presented their demands agreed by workers assemblies to employers. When their demands were not met, workers organized in the Peruvian Regional Workers Federation Union walked out in Kalau.
There was a total stoppage of industry as dockers, gas workers, mill workers, typographers, bakers, bricklayers, textile workers and others all came out on strike and took to the streets waving red and black flags. Workers in Lima also joined the strike. The government sent in troops to repress the workers, but the strike continued. On the tenth of January, the Darsana doc and Steamship company in Kalal caved in and implemented
a maximum eight hour working day. Organizing and further strikes for a universal.
