On this Day and Working Class History the seventeenth of January and on the seventeenth January two thousand and five, fifty eight striking workers at the Russell Islands Plantation estate in the Solomon Islands were arrested after clashing with police at the Yandina Wharf as the employer attempted to export Copra and co co using scam replacement workers. Police attacked workers with pepper spray and workers responded by throwing stones. The workers were charged with causing bodily harm to two

police officers. The incident was part of a long running dispute where strikers were demanding the dismissal of the estate manager and the sources maps and all of our anniversaries each day.
