Old St. Pat's Podcast

Old St. Patrick's Church, Father Bryan Massingale, Fr. Bryan Massingaleold-st-pats-podcast.simplecast.com
Old St. Patrick's is a Roman Catholic community in Chicago's bustling West Loop neighborhood, founded by Irish Immigrants on Easter morning in 1846. Since then we have grown into a home to a membership of about 4,000 households and innumerable friends. As we grow, we continually redefine what it means to be an urban church. We are committed to remaining open to new visions and possibilities, seeking broader horizons as we journey into our future. We encourage you to encounter the God who loves you, engage in a community that welcomes you, and serve the world that needs you. This podcast aims to welcome all into a Catholic experience like no other. Welcome to the Old St. Pat's Podcast.

Holy Anxiety - Fr. Ed Foley 7.17.22

Financial security, families, health, relationships, work, our communities - we may have anxiety over some of these subjects at any point in our lives. This is a clear sign that it’s because these subjects are very important to us and it’s only natural to want to find ways to limit or get rid of unwanted stress. The challenge is then moving beyond reducing anxiety only for ourselves. How can we come to care just as much about the welfare of those around us and find ways that our gifts can reliev...

Neighboring - Fr. Pat McGrath 7.10.22

Who comes to mind when you hear the word “neighbor”? Is it your next-door neighbor? Your neighbors down the block? Or how about your neighboring town or country? If you are like most, we think of a person or place - in essence, we mainly think of the word neighbor as a noun. In this past Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan, and even though it’s one we’ve heard many times, today, Father Pat McGrath helps us see the story in a new way, as a call to action to turn the word ...

A Peace Filled Voice - Fr. Ken Simpson 5.29.22

In light of the recent tragedy in Texas, Father Ken Simpson encourages us to look around and ask, what do we celebrate? What do we tolerate? And what do we presume? And after doing so, how can we listen for and add to the peace-filled voices amongst the noise. As we approach Pentecost, we pray: Come, Holy Spirit. Grow in us the spirit of understanding as we face the complicated roots of violence. Give us the courage and the right judgment to innovate and act: building households, neighborhoods, ...

The Sound of Hope - Fr. Tom Hurley 5.22.22

Like Jesus told his disciples in last Sunday’s Gospel before his ascension into heaven, he assures them that His spirit is always with them. Today Father Tom Hurley examines how a time of stepping away can actually help one find their way back and give them what is required to proclaim even more sounds of even more joy, peace, hope, and love.

And how would you change the next time you were in a similar situation? During this Holy Week, Father Ken Velo suggests we review instant replays of our life to more ful...
