In 2009, the U.S. Department of Agriculture launched a new initiative- “Know your farmer, know your food.” Its main purpose is to support and promote the growing demand for local and regional food systems. Over the past 7 years, USDA has invested more than a billion dollars helping farmers, businesses, service organizations and communities, resulting in a huge boost in sales of local foods.
