[SPEAKER_02]: a factual day to creation facility production. [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the OFN Tea Podcast. [SPEAKER_01]: A show mainly about tech and other topics and how their influence affects our host. [SPEAKER_01]: Now here he is, Jim Schafer. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the OFNT podcast episode 310, which I'm calling, new product dump inbound. [SPEAKER_00]: Starting this coming Monday, Apple's expected to be announcing new products via press releases, starting with the iPhone 17E.
[SPEAKER_00]: The tech-resist predicting that these announcements will culminate with the new low-cost MacBook being announced on Wednesday. [SPEAKER_00]: Just before the scheduled Apple Experience, [SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's just get started now. [SPEAKER_00]: Technos. [SPEAKER_00]: This first story from nine to five Google.com was reported on late last week. [SPEAKER_00]: There were no other interesting, well, at least interesting for me, stories.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was no need for an overflow episode last week. [SPEAKER_00]: like most if not all tech companies. [SPEAKER_00]: Intellectual property theft has become a pretty common occurrence. [SPEAKER_00]: I've previously reported on this sort of activity which usually evolved Apple.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it was Google's turn because the article describes a court case where three individuals who have been charged with a 14 felony council conspiracy, [SPEAKER_00]: Two out of the three were previous employees of Google, while the third, who was the spouse of one of the accused former Google employees, had applied to work at Google multiple times.
[SPEAKER_00]: Though the article didn't mention it, judging by the defendant's names, they were most likely foreign-born, guessing they were of Chinese descent. [SPEAKER_00]: No, not this time, they appear to be of South Asian stock, specifically from India. [SPEAKER_00]: This particular trio of thieves allegedly stole trade seekers concerning Google's 10-sort chip.
[SPEAKER_00]: All three work in tech and the two that actually work for Google later moved on to other tech companies who weren't named. [SPEAKER_00]: Google has released a statement claiming to have enhanced a safeguards to protect the company's confidential information, and immediately alerted law enforcement upon discovering this incident. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, perhaps Google should put more effort into prevention instead of discovery.
[SPEAKER_00]: I say this because it seems the trio had already gotten away with the theft and moved on. [SPEAKER_00]: No details of what was stolen was given in the article. [SPEAKER_00]: Companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft should expect these IP thefts to continue and even increase due to their hiring practices. [SPEAKER_00]: I suspect these three arrived in the United States after being issued the H1B Work Visa, which is supposed to be temporary.
[SPEAKER_00]: But for my vast experience working for customs and border protection, seldom is, meaning these people never leave. [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of hiring local United States citizens, these tech companies rather bring employees from all around the world and pay them less of a salary than they would a local worker. [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I hardly ever witnessed H1B visa holders coming from Europe for the tech industry.
[SPEAKER_00]: Many of these H1B visa workers also scan the system as soon as they settle into this country. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I'm speaking from experience. [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be hearing much more about intellectual property theft from tech companies in the future. [SPEAKER_00]: Continuing with nine to five Google, who are quoting the blog Windows latest. [SPEAKER_00]: Like Apple, Microsoft integrates its apps into its own operating systems.
[SPEAKER_00]: In Windows case, operating system, it was a terrible mistake getting rid of Windows phone, wasn't it? [SPEAKER_00]: You'll get no argument from me. [SPEAKER_00]: Even Microsoft CEO has admitted to as much. [SPEAKER_00]: To late now, since discontinuing Windows Phone, Microsoft's strategy has been to embrace integration for apps running on the Android operating system.
[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like a good strategy at the time, but with the disaster that is Windows 11, the company might want to reconsider. [SPEAKER_00]: Many Windows users have been frustrated with the state of the Windows operating system and are flocking to Linux. [SPEAKER_00]: The only things preventing even more Windows users from leaving are gaming and government accounts.
[SPEAKER_00]: Once Linux gets its act together on gaming, and government useful, most likely be the only thing Windows dominates. [SPEAKER_00]: I let's not forget the impeding release of Google's aluminium desktop operating system. [SPEAKER_00]: Windows has a feature called Resume, which allows you to start apps on phones and continue on Windows. [SPEAKER_00]: The catch here is that third-party apps have to add this Resume capability themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: Resume works much like Apple's hand-off feature. [SPEAKER_00]: So far Spotify is the only third-party app that supports Resume on Windows. [SPEAKER_00]: This may change soon because according to the article, communication app, what's app [SPEAKER_00]: All not as popular in United States as it once was. [SPEAKER_00]: What's app is from what I understand the go-to messaging app in Europe and other parts of the world?
[SPEAKER_00]: China and Korea have their own messaging apps, while Facebook Messenger rules Southeast Asia. [SPEAKER_00]: What's app is also testing voice and video calls using their web client, which when implemented will bring these resume and handle features to Linux and Mac OS. [SPEAKER_00]: I believe we're witnessing the beginning of the decline of Windows OS for the consumer market.
[SPEAKER_00]: Last episode I talked about the war between YouTube and consumers using ad blockers to get around having to watch advertisements. [SPEAKER_00]: I suggested that YouTube could fight this by lowering the price of a subscription to the popular platform. [SPEAKER_00]: I suggested that they could lower the price for YouTube premium light from $8 to $5. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess that's never going to happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: Instead outlets are reporting that YouTube will be adding background playback and offline [SPEAKER_00]: the keyword here being most. [SPEAKER_00]: These new features will not include music videos. [SPEAKER_00]: Firstly, I'd rather have a lower subscription price. [SPEAKER_00]: Even so, YouTube Premium Light has just become a little more appealing to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't use YouTube music, and I'm sure I could win myself off of watching music videos.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing I would miss is the continue playing feature. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, sometimes I start watching YouTube content on my iPad and then shift to my television. [SPEAKER_00]: But that's a convenience I could easily give up. [SPEAKER_00]: But this next story has actually got me excited. [SPEAKER_00]: If you recall, being a fan of weather amps, I'm constantly trying out different ones, all in an attempt to replace the late great dark sky app.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you recall, dark sky was bought by Apple, and absorbed into its own weather app. [SPEAKER_00]: As a matter of fact, I wondered if the people behind dark sky had some sort of non-compet agreement with Apple, and, if so, when it expired. [SPEAKER_00]: According to nine to five Mac.com, the teen behind dark sky was actually working for Apple, but have since left. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly when they left Apple, but apparently they've been very busy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And why is that? [SPEAKER_00]: Because they've just launched a new weather app called Acme Weatherer. [SPEAKER_00]: After reading the article, I immediately downloaded Acme Weather and subscribed to it. [SPEAKER_00]: And after doing that, I canceled my subscription to Acme Weather. [SPEAKER_00]: For now, the app is only available on iOS, but according to the Acme team, and the Android app is in works. [SPEAKER_00]: I can say that the new app does resemble DocSky.
[SPEAKER_00]: My only hope is that Acme Weather can live up to the hyper-local accuracy of DocSky. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it will, because when I enabled location tracking, it shows my actual home address. [SPEAKER_00]: All the other apps I've tried since DocSky's absorption. [SPEAKER_00]: Usually show the next town over or another close by location. [SPEAKER_00]: Never my exact location. [SPEAKER_00]: Stay tuned for updates.
[SPEAKER_00]: As it did during its last iteration, the current administration would like to see manufacturing move back to the United States. [SPEAKER_02]: globalists? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess. [SPEAKER_00]: During that first iteration of the current administration, a lot of companies promised to start moving manufacturing back to the US. [SPEAKER_00]: But these promises turned out to be empty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Plan for factories were announced then silently abandoned, and while some manufacturing did start coming back to these shores, only to be shifted back overseas again when the time was right. [SPEAKER_00]: This story from nine to five Mac.com quotes Apple's Chief Operating Officer, Sabi Khan as saying that the manufacturer of the Mac Mini in the United States will commence this year. [SPEAKER_00]: Wow! [SPEAKER_00]: In a factory built in Houston, Texas.
[SPEAKER_00]: A tour of the new facility was given to the Wall Street Journal. [SPEAKER_00]: The reporter asked Mr. Khan how many Mac Mini's will actually be made at the facility, with Mr. Khan replying, quote, [SPEAKER_00]: Thousands every week, unquote. [SPEAKER_00]: The MacMedia is one of Apple's best selling computers, and probably one of the easiest to manufacture. [SPEAKER_00]: I have one sitting in front of me, and it's my favorite Apple computer.
[SPEAKER_00]: Besides being small, it allows you to choose what monitor, mouse, or keyboard you'd like to use. [SPEAKER_00]: Basically, the MacMedia is the guts of the IMac, and with no display included, [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not that I'm in the market for either one splendid recovery. [SPEAKER_00]: Why thank you. [SPEAKER_00]: The only other Mac made in the U.S. is the Mac Pro, but let's be real here. [SPEAKER_00]: How many of those are actually bought per year? [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe hundreds?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that estimate is probably being generous. [SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, when the current administration exits in 2021, this U.S. made Mac will probably shift its manufacturing back overseas. [SPEAKER_00]: In more of what can be considered good news, Android Authority.com reports that Apple and Google have teamed up to work on encrypted chats between iOS and Android. [SPEAKER_00]: This has been heralded by the release of the developer's beta of iOS 26.4 last week.
[SPEAKER_00]: I predict this cross-platform encrypted chat will be released to consumers in September, alongside iOS 27. [SPEAKER_00]: The only problem is that Mac OS legs behind iOS and features. [SPEAKER_00]: My max still don't have RCS capability. [SPEAKER_00]: You could use iPhone mirroring, though. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you can, but that just adds an extra step. [SPEAKER_00]: And what if your phone isn't nearby?
[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully Apple will eventually bring macOS in line with iOS, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sticking to my prediction that Apple will eventually replace macOS with a variation of iOS in the future. [SPEAKER_00]: MacRomers.com quotes an email they receive from an anonymous leaker about the upcoming low-cost MacBook. [SPEAKER_00]: Specifically, the limitations device will have. [SPEAKER_00]: Here's what the leaker listed.
[SPEAKER_00]: The display of this low-cost laptop will fall below and 500 nits of brightness. [SPEAKER_00]: Not really a big deal unless you use the device outdoors or in very bright conditions. [SPEAKER_00]: No true tone, which is Apple's speak for automatic adjustment of display brightness. [SPEAKER_00]: Again, no problem. [SPEAKER_00]: You can adjust this yourself. [SPEAKER_00]: No one terabyte or two terabyte storage capabilities.
[SPEAKER_00]: Only 256 gigabytes or a 512 gigabytes storage options will be available. [SPEAKER_00]: While this limits potential users, the audience's model is aimed at won't be that concerned. [SPEAKER_00]: I've had and still have max with less than one terabyte of storage, and still haven't managed to come close to fling them up. [SPEAKER_00]: Slow or solid state drive speeds. [SPEAKER_00]: Well this limitation would probably be noticeable if you're editing videos and stuff, but then again.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to be doing that sort of thing, well this map will get in for you anyway. [SPEAKER_00]: No fast charging. [SPEAKER_00]: If this is going to be your main computer, then this isn't good news. [SPEAKER_00]: You'll be waiting for a longer time for your computer to fully charge. [SPEAKER_00]: Next is no backlit keyboard. [SPEAKER_00]: Some wouldn't miss this feature, but I sure would. [SPEAKER_00]: That's my biggest complaint about Apple's magic keyboard.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like doing stuff in dimly lit spaces. [SPEAKER_00]: I bet you do. [SPEAKER_00]: I often find myself computing in spaces where the lighting is an optimum. [SPEAKER_00]: And I like it that way. [SPEAKER_00]: 20-plus years of working the overnight shift has made my eye sensitive to bright lights. [SPEAKER_00]: My optometrist even noticed that during my last check-up. [SPEAKER_00]: Next is no high impedance headphone support.
[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you're an audio file, or will be producing a podcast for NPR, this will not be a problem for you. [SPEAKER_00]: And if you can afford a pair of high impedance headphones, you won't be buying this computer. [SPEAKER_00]: Finally, no Apple N1 networking chip. [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, this new MacBook will be using a low-end media tech chip.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now previously, I would not have been too concerned with this, but since I'm pretty my Wi-Fi network to the Wi-Fi 60 standards, I've really noticed a difference. [SPEAKER_00]: The question that I have about this new MacBook is how much RAM is it going to come with. [SPEAKER_00]: When Apple was stuck on giving the base model maximum 8 gigs, I always upgraded the 16 gigs.
[SPEAKER_00]: Even with my main uses of my max, which is word processing and browsing an email, 8 gigs of RAM isn't enough. [SPEAKER_02]: 16 gigabytes of RAM always makes things run smoother, but doesn't Apple have unified memory, meaning that space on the SSD drive can be used for memory if needed. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but if you remember, according to the Leaker, the SSD will be slow in this low-cost MacBook, and what if it's almost full?
[SPEAKER_00]: Also a memory-hogging app, like Google Chrome browser, could eat up that memory real fast. [SPEAKER_00]: When I first got my Mac Mini, I woke it from sleep one time, only to be greeted by an error message stating that the computer's memory was full. [SPEAKER_00]: The culprit turned out to be the Hindenburg app my digital audio workstation of choice. [SPEAKER_00]: I had left the app open during my last session.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hindenburg acknowledged that the app had a memory leak and fixed it with an update shortly after. [SPEAKER_00]: My Mac Mini has 16 gigabytes of RAM and a one-terabyte drive. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, this new Mac book is expected to cost [SPEAKER_00]: With the limitations I just described, if true, then I hope the cost of it is closer to $600. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll know all next week.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be releasing an overflow episode to cover this and the other products expected to be announced during the week. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm most interested in seeing what upgrade Z iPhone 17E will be getting. [SPEAKER_00]: Wednesday I watched the Samsung unpacked event. [SPEAKER_00]: Normally I would have let off the tech news with this item, but the event wasn't worth leading off with.
[SPEAKER_00]: The unpacked event was supposed to start at noon eastern standard time, but didn't get started until 1300 EST. [SPEAKER_00]: That's one in the afternoon for you, non-military types. [SPEAKER_00]: Samsung started off the event by calling the new Galaxy S26 Ultra the AI agetic phone. [SPEAKER_00]: The whole event was dominated by talk about how great the AI is on the new Galaxy phone. [SPEAKER_00]: That there are four flavors of it on the device.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have Galaxy, Bixby, Gemini, and Proplexity AI in residence on these phones. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess the thinking behind this was the more the merrier, as the cool kids say. [SPEAKER_00]: No! [SPEAKER_00]: As for the galaxy phones themselves, not much was covered as far as specs go. [SPEAKER_00]: Yet, they have the latest and greatest snapdragon chipsets, and of course, more powerful and punes in previous generations.
[SPEAKER_00]: The phones will need this in order to run all those at different AI modules I guess. [SPEAKER_00]: Like Apple, Samsung has added a heat sink to keep things cool inside the phone. [SPEAKER_00]: The biggest thing Announce was the privacy display, which will reduce visibility if the screen is looked at from the side.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's something I believe you can obtain the same effect by just slapping a privacy screen protector on your phone's display, but with less flexibility and options. [SPEAKER_00]: The new Galaxy Bud4s were introduced, whose design took heavy inspiration from Apple AirPods. [SPEAKER_00]: This disaster of an event ended with a Samsung employees around the world pledging to be kind to the planet's environment, which is so 2023. [SPEAKER_00]: An early late than ever I guess.
[SPEAKER_00]: Judging by the live comments on YouTube, Samsung fans were impressed as much as I was, which is not much at all. [SPEAKER_00]: They took to calling Samsung the same song. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh no, you don't. [SPEAKER_00]: Even if Apple doesn't have much to discuss during their events, they know how to put on a much better show. [SPEAKER_00]: Tech I'm using. [SPEAKER_00]: Last week I decided to take some tech advice from my son and make a change.
[SPEAKER_00]: How stunning and brave of you. [SPEAKER_00]: It's funny you mention brave because that's the change I made. [SPEAKER_00]: I've changed my default browser from Apple Safari to the brave browser. [SPEAKER_02]: Tell me you're going to stop paying for YouTube premium without telling me you're going to stop paying for YouTube premium. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm not unsuscribing to YouTube Premium, though the new one improved YouTube Premium Light has me interested.
[SPEAKER_00]: My son's which from Google's Chrome browser to Brave some time ago and is very impressed with it. [SPEAKER_00]: He happened to mention this to me during a discussion whose subject dive long forgotten. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, the Brave browser suggestion stuck with me, so I did some research on it. [SPEAKER_00]: though it is based on Chrome, Brave takes up much less memory and is much more secure than Chrome is. [SPEAKER_00]: Brave even boasts its own search engine.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if this is fact or not, but Brave seems faster than Google Chrome and blows a door's off of Safari. [SPEAKER_00]: After downloading Brave, it took me a couple of minutes to set it up. [SPEAKER_00]: This may very few because I really don't spend that much time online. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have much to transfer over from Safari.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're looking to make a change from whatever browser you're currently using, I recommend checking the Brave Browser out, especially if you're currently using Google Chrome. [SPEAKER_00]: The memory usage savings loan makes it well worth it. [SPEAKER_00]: and to tame in news, the battle over what company will get to purchase Warner Discovery is over, and the victor wasn't who it was expected to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: Last Wednesday, Paramount raised its bid for Warner Discovery to a point that Netflix was forced with draw it's offer from the movie and television company. [SPEAKER_00]: Netflix had been attempting to buy just the studio portion in HBO from Warner Discovery, [SPEAKER_00]: was rooting for Netflix because one thing that company knows how to do is stream. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they basically started the whole thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, Paramounts Wind sparked political discussion because that's all that online people seem to want to talk about these days. [SPEAKER_00]: Those on the left were dismayed at the news of Paramount winning this bidding war, while those on the right were overjoyed. [SPEAKER_00]: sites had one thing in common. [SPEAKER_00]: Concern about the future of cable news network that are known as CNN. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, CNN is one of the properties involved in this acquisition.
[SPEAKER_00]: Those on the left worried about what changes would be made to CNN while those on the right hope that CNN would be disbanded. [SPEAKER_00]: CNN's news market share so miniscule these days at random YouTubers beat them daily. [SPEAKER_00]: Partly anyone is watching CNN so I don't know why this became so big of a concern. [SPEAKER_00]: Personally, I don't care what happens to that news outfit.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm more concerned with how much my subscription price will increase for a Paramount Plus after the merge with Warner Discovery is completed. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't you get Paramount Plus gratis through Walmart? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes I do. [SPEAKER_00]: But this is probably the last year for bad. [SPEAKER_00]: I do watch Paramount Plus a lot more than Netflix and I welcome the addition of content from HBO.
[SPEAKER_00]: The immediate effect on the old fart household will be the downgrading of our Netflix plan to the ad supported tier. [SPEAKER_00]: We just don't watch Netflix enough to justify paying for the top tier any longer. [SPEAKER_00]: podcast news. [SPEAKER_00]: This past Tuesday something that I had sworn to myself never to do again. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't tell me you purchased another Michael audio interface.
[SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: I sat down and watched the sixth annual podcast Academy Ambies Award Show. [SPEAKER_00]: And I used to terms awards and show very loosely what possessed you to do something like that. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I guess I was bored in an experienced a week moment. [SPEAKER_00]: The podcast Academy was formed back in 2020 just as podcasting incorporated was getting started.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right from the beginning, the old pioneers of podcasting had reservations about its formation. [SPEAKER_00]: Believing that the Academy's backers had the goal of freezing out the independent podcaster in favor of the corporate back podcasters. [SPEAKER_00]: To carry favor in relief anxiety, some seats on the original board of directors were given to said a podcast pioneers. [SPEAKER_00]: and all sorts of money started flowing into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: These were heavy times, and by the year 2021, those old pioneers were discarded and replaced by public media veterans and activists. [SPEAKER_00]: The worst fears of the old guard were then realized. [SPEAKER_00]: The independent podcaster who started the whole thing were shut out. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, though muddled after them, the Ambio Ward shows were never at the level of their Hollywood counterpart toward shows.
[SPEAKER_00]: But this year's Ambio's managed to reach new lows, it makes me doubt that the podcast Academy will exist for much longer. [SPEAKER_00]: Because Amazon was a big financial supporter of the podcast Academy, the annual award show was usually streamed on Twitch. [SPEAKER_00]: Amazon seems to have pulled back their investments in podcasting recently, so this year's ambees were streamed on Good Old YouTube.
[SPEAKER_00]: The event was held at some hotel in Brooklyn, New York, which is fitting, because that's where podcasting incorporated got its kickstart. [SPEAKER_00]: The event was supposed to take place on Monday, but a winter storm delayed it until Tuesday. [SPEAKER_00]: The stream got off to a bad start with its audio out of sync for about 40 minutes. [SPEAKER_00]: The host blathered on for 30 minutes out of sync before the award commencements even began.
[SPEAKER_00]: The first presenter was from NPR, a trend that would continue as a event progressed, and she couldn't help but to get political during the first sentence out of her mouth. [SPEAKER_00]: At this moment, exactly 376 people were viewing this event, and this would turn out to be the unofficial peak viewership of the show. [SPEAKER_00]: I did have the live comment streams open, with most commenters pushing for the podcast reality gaze to win the category of best-add read.
[SPEAKER_00]: a category that became the highlight of the evening. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, money talks in, well, you know the rest. [SPEAKER_00]: Supporters of the podcast reality gays were spamming the comments section so much that others were telling them to calm down. [SPEAKER_00]: spoiler alert. [SPEAKER_00]: Reality gays didn't win, which caused an immediate drop in viewers. [SPEAKER_00]: At this point it was a 262 viewing.
[SPEAKER_00]: One presenter actually wore an N95 COVID mask while announcing winners. [SPEAKER_00]: By the time the podcaster of the year award was given out, viewership dropped to 258. [SPEAKER_00]: The viewership for the biggest award of the night, podcaster of the year was a mere 158. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, if you're wondering, Wisecrack won the podcast of the Year award. [SPEAKER_00]: Curious as to what made this so-called podcast of the year, I attempted to listen to an episode of Wisecrack.
[SPEAKER_00]: The episodes started after four advertisements, and ten minutes in had another ad break. [SPEAKER_00]: I lost count at five edge during that break, before I decided to punch out. [SPEAKER_02]: The other day I was listening to an advertisement and a podcast broke out. [SPEAKER_02]: I see what you did there. [SPEAKER_00]: I also noticed that all of the winners thank their teams and producers. [SPEAKER_00]: Even the independent podcast of the year had a team behind them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I should look into getting a team behind me. [SPEAKER_00]: Who am I kidding? [SPEAKER_00]: Most of the awards were public radio backed and Helm by women or alternative sexuality activists. [SPEAKER_00]: I've unfortunately watched all six of the ambies award shows, and while viewership has never been great, [SPEAKER_00]: According to a report from Edison Research, podcasts have overtaken spoken word radio and spent time listening.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow. [SPEAKER_00]: And this includes normal over the air, radio, and streaming. [SPEAKER_00]: This is a big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: I almost exclusively listened to podcasts these days, especially while driving. [SPEAKER_00]: While I celebrate this milestone to me, there's some connection lost. [SPEAKER_00]: One radio was king, at least you knew there was a live human on the other end. [SPEAKER_00]: Especially late night, radio.
[SPEAKER_00]: These days what you're mostly listening to is a syndicated pre-recorded program. [SPEAKER_00]: Local GJs have become a rarity. [SPEAKER_00]: I spent many night listening to the overnight legends, such as Larry King and Art Bell. [SPEAKER_00]: those days are apparently over. [SPEAKER_00]: One of podcasting's 2.0 features is the ability to stream live audio. [SPEAKER_00]: I hope eventually some podcaster will step up and fill the void that those radio greats have left.
[SPEAKER_00]: Only this time via audio podcasts live stream. [SPEAKER_00]: Why don't you do it then? [SPEAKER_00]: If I decided to do that, I'd be headed to Divor City, and that's a place I just don't want to visit. [SPEAKER_00]: Apple's recent announcement supporting the HLS video standard has gotten the attention of the media press. [SPEAKER_00]: All specifically, the ability for ads to be inserted dynamically, but of course they would.
[SPEAKER_00]: Brain.com quoting Coleman Insights believes Apple support for video will greatly influence the podcast market. [SPEAKER_00]: No longer will a podcast or be limited to either YouTube and Spotify, and I guess rumble to a much smaller extent. [SPEAKER_00]: Now a host can add video to normal distribution methods without sacrificing its audio component. [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully this will not change the character of these podcasts, but that remains to be seen.
[SPEAKER_00]: As I've stated previously, I won't be adding video to the OF&T podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: Besides the extra work and equipment needed to produce video, I can see no advantage in doing it for this podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: Things change and I'm looking forward to seeing how all this shakes out. [SPEAKER_00]: The music is playing, and the episode has reached its last moments. [SPEAKER_00]: I hope you enjoyed this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: I enjoyed making it for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: For like what you heard, you can make a donation using the link in the show notes. [SPEAKER_00]: Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. [SPEAKER_00]: You could always reach me at ofntpodcast at gmail.com. [SPEAKER_00]: If you're so inclined, I enjoy hearing from you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Remember don't listen to what they say watch what they do I'm starting to ready my lawn care equipment because spring is almost amongst us So I not do me a salad get off my lawn Stay skeptical I'm out Steer And that folks is the end of the show
