The headline from last night's Oscars, turned out to the Oscars. It's the Oscars moment that shocked the world. It was the wildest moment in live television history of it was sickening. I physically felt ill you along with 100 million other people saw, Will Smith lose his temper at the Oscars, and many of you asked me to make a video about it, but I stayed silent because I felt anything I say is going to get swamped by all the emotion, lots of different opinions were swirling around
the internet. Was it a setup? Was Will Smith the one who is in the wrong or did Chris Rock? Was he the one who pushed the line or is Jada pulling strings behind the background? And I felt anything I say about Jesus Christ and the Bible is going to get lost because there's so much drama around this event.
But when I heard Will Smith say this last week in an interview, I knew I had to make a video about it right away now, just before I show you this clip, could I gently ask every single one of you to do me a favor, Every single one of you set aside all of your feelings about this event and ask yourself this one question. How does this apply to me? Have I ever lost my temper and regretted it? Because that's really what I want to say in this video.
You know, you won your first Oscar that night well-deserved, Oscar that night but it is it is simultaneously in many ways, not the worst I want you to worry because I know the life you've lived, I read the book but it is one of the best days of your life and one of the worst days of your life that was The horrific night I just I lost it. I guess what I would say you just never know what somebody's going through. You know. That was a rage that had been
bottled for a really long time. It's that, you know, all of that just bubbled up in that moment. That's not who I want to be. Did you hear that? What caused Will Smith to have this Outburst at the Oscars was bottled rage? You know, the problem with anger is very often when we release our anger, the actual Act of being angry causes More pain than the thing that provokes us to be angry in the first place and we can see that demonstrated.
So, clearly with Will Smith, okay, I'm going to say something rather controversial right now, even though I'm a big advocate of freedom of speech, even though I'm against this snowflake generation, which is always offended by everything. I personally can understand why Will Smith lost his temper. If you regularly watch my videos, you know, that I often make Make jokes about my lack of hair. But I'll be honest with you, my am letting you into a secret.
Now, I actually had a really quite irrational fear. It took me a long time to build up the courage to get the razor out and to shave all of my hair off because I was terrified that the first time I came on camera and showed the world. My nice new shiny egg. I had a fear that everyone would hit unsubscribe and say, Joe. I think you've got a face for the radio, maybe you should do a podcast instead because that
bald head is rather unsightly. I know that sounds crazy but if I was insecure as a man and it's not the most uncommon thing for men to lose their hair. If I was scared about it, I wonder how Jada fell as a woman with all these eyeballs on her in the public eye. With all these people comparing the way she looks to other female celebrities. I can only imagine that she too felt insecure. So I believe Will Smith watching all of his wife's insecurities
behind closed doors. And then already his family life is in front of the public. Acai going through all of these difficulties. He reacted to Chris Rock's bold Joe. But as I said, his retaliation cause far more pain than the joke itself. The Bible says, Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down without walls. What you think that verse means, we'll just like a city that has no walls. No protection. Anyone can come in and claim what they want.
Anyone can plunder the wealth of that city. That is what a man. A woman who lacks self-control is like, but nights will never be remembered as the night. Where Will Smith won an Oscar for His Brilliant acting performance. Know it will always be remembered as the nights when he lost control and he hurts. Another human being measure something private with you.
One of the reasons I've not been uploaded as much recently is because I myself have been struggling with anger and sometimes anger doesn't present itself in shouting or aggression. Session or fits of Rage. Sometimes anger can present itself in tears in sleeplessness, and in a deep resentment and that is what I've been going through for quite literally months.
I've been upset, I've been hurt. It's all I've been talking about with my friends and family and it's made me want to pull away from YouTube, but just last month, I went to a small conference and there, the Bible teacher was preaching on Jonah and the Lord did a work of healing in my heart. I heard him on pack, this wonderful story. I guess you probably know the story of Jonah quite well.
God told Jonah to go and preach repentance to the people of Nineveh, because Joan and knew that the ninevites were very cruel mean, people who would quite literally skin.
Their enemies, Jonah, ran in the opposite direction, and he got on a boat and went to tarshish, but the Lord sent a storm to get Joel his attention and eventually the sailors because they knew Knew that this storm had fallen on the ship because of Jonah, the sailors had no choice but to take Jonah and to throw him into the stormy sea and their God prepared, a great fish to swallow Jonah, whilst Jonah, was in the belly of the fish, for three days and three nights.
The Lord was dealing with him. And eventually the Lord commanded. The fish to spew Jonah out, onto dry land and Jonah was ready to obey the Lord, he went to Nineveh and he preached, he Those people to turn to God and to turn from their wickedness and amazingly, they did a hundred and twenty thousand Souls were saved. And as an evangelist this is the most peculiar thing because Jonah saw this and yet he was bitter about it. If just, one soul is saved in a meeting as an evangelist.
We leap for Joy were amazed, but Jonah was bitter. All these people who would turn to God and he climbed up onto the top of a hill and he looked out over the city to see what Would become of these people who had turned to God and God was displeased with Jonah and he asked him. This question, Jonah, why are you angry? This was his response. Lord was not this.
What I said when I was still in my country therefore I fled previously to tarshish for I know that you are a gracious and merciful god slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness one who relents from Being calm, you know, from this pastor's message for the first time in my life, I finally understood what anger is. It's not an issue with people. It's an issue with God. He see Jonah could understand God's Wrath God's judgment. That's what he relished in.
When the storm came. John was saying, yes. This is because of me because I have rebelled against God, when the fish swallowed him up, Jonah was ready to die. He thought, yes, this is the Judgment that I deserve. What Jonah couldn't understand or what? Jonah, couldn't comprehend was the grace. The mercy, the Forgiveness of God and my dear friend, when you and I get angry with other people. You know, we're actually doing, we're taking the place of God.
We ourselves are tried to execute judgment. And instead of sharing in God's attitude for people instead of rejoicing that God is a god of mercy, God is a god of patience and all the times we sent all the times he failed God and he hasn't Because down he's been gracious. He's been patient, he's forgiven us. Why can't we rejoice in that? When God extends that love to all the people but instead, when someone offends us we want Justice instantly. But I want to tell you
something. When we finally do Rejoice that, okay, this might be causing me pain, but I know that no pain in God's economy is wasted and this pain. God is going to use to make me more like his son when we rejoice in that suddenly God. Melt Our hearts and this situation that's hurt us becomes a lot easier to deal with. Okay, if I haven't, stepped on anyone's toes yet, listen to this. It's not always a sin to be
angry. There is such a thing as righteous anger, supposing someone drags, your daughter's name through the dirt. What are you going to do? Suppose someone disrespects your own mother? What are you going to do? You're going to want Justice, you are going to be angry. Let me ask you this question. When someone drags the name of the Lord through the dirt, what do you do? When someone disrespects the most high god? What do you do? Are you angry at the same level as you would be?
If someone calls one of your family members you see we should be tormented when people use the name of the Lord in vain we should be tormented when we see the evil around us, we should long for justice but let none of us ever take justice into into our own hands. Know what does the Bible say? We should do when we see the sin around us. Beloved do not avenge yourselves but rather give place to wrath for. It is written.
Vengeance is mine? I will repay says the Lord, although Jonah did have a rather negative view of God, I believe today in the year that we live. Right now, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction where you will be very hard-pressed to find a preacher who Preach on repentance. You will really struggle to hear. A man of God, talk about the wrath of God. You will struggle to hear anyone tell Sinners. That, if they don't turn from their sins, they will be cast
into hell for all of eternity. No, today, preachers. They preach on the love of God. The tenderness of God, the grace of God, but they miss the severity of the Lord. Did, you know, there was a controversial disagreement about the him in Christ alone. He see in 2010, the Aaron Church of the USA. Wanted to add this beautiful him into their him book. But there was one thing they didn't like there was one line that they wanted to arrays and
change completely. They did not like the line that says till on that cross as Jesus died. The wrath of God was satisfied. They said no, we don't like this Roth business. Let's change the line instead to say till on, that cross as Jesus died, the love of God was magnified. So the approach that To him writers, Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend and asked for
permission to change the words. What you think these two men said, no, there's no way we're going to try and erase the wrath of God. Perhaps you'll disagree with me on this but I personally am really grateful that these two men took such a strong stand. You see true, love mustn't Overlook evil for us to understand the love of God. We've also got to understand the wrath of Gods. And yes, there are Jonah's in the world who only want the wrath of God who only want the Judgment of God.
But at the same time, we also have men and women of the world like this church, we've just heard about who only want the love of God, but when we look at the cross, we see both of God's characteristics perfectly married together. We see that God is just God is a god of wrath when he poured out all of his Roth all of his judgment for our sin on. Jesus, when Jesus hung I'm not cross and shed his blood.
He was dying there for our selfishness, our pride, our fits of anger are blasphemy all of our sin was laid on Jesus Christ. And God is just in that. He doesn't ignore sin. He doesn't ignore evil. No, he deals with it by punishing Christ on the cross for us. And then at the cross, we also see the love of God. No one in this world, has any right to say that. No one loves me because he's all you have to do is look, At the cross. God did not leave us floundering in our sin though.
We deserved condemnation though we deserved Hell Fire. God did not leave us in our sin. No he went to Great Lengths. Sending his son to bleed and die on the cross. Many of us fathers would say I would rather die. I would rather do anything for my son and yet God gave his son so that he might save us. And then make us his sons and his daughters. What goes through your mind as you hear this message, That Jesus Christ died. He was buried. And then on the third day, he
rose from the dead proving all. That's been said that he truly is the savior of all men and women that will trust in him. I get a lot of criticism for making videos about celebrities, but I'm prepared to take it, and I'll tell you why. Because I know for a fact that right now, there is someone listening to me, who only clicked on this video, because you care about Will Smith. And right now, you have heard about the Her, the Lord, Jesus Christ, who died on a cross for
your sins. And I want you to know this, God is a God, who is abounding in love? He slow to anger, but I also want you to know, there is an expiry date to the Lord's patience. And one day, there is a day when mercy will be cut off. So, if you have not yet, put your trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ. I plead with you to come today and find Salvation in him alone and I can shamelessly say, if you want to see another video about Out Will Smith where you
will hear about. Jesus again, click here.
