Is this the most mocking statement in history? A foolish man. Once said this not even God himself could sink this ship. What shit were they talking about the Titanic? And although this very quotation made into James Cameron's world famous film. This heart-melting, story did not John Harper was a Scottish Pastor, who was also on the Titanic when it sank he'd been invited to go and preach at a church in Chicago.
We said why not? I'll take my six-year-old daughter and let's go on the most luxurious ship in the world days before the Titanic. Sank, survivors have said how, they remember seeing John Harper. This man who everywhere he went. He would Shine the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, but on April the 15th 1912 John Harper, took to his six-year-old daughter into bed and pulled out his Bible and read it just as he did night after night at 11:40 that
evening, the unsinkable ship. Hit an iceberg and people quickly realized they were doomed. So, John Harper, pulled out a blanket. He wrapped his daughter in it, he went to the Lifeboat number 11 and he handed his daughter to those men and asked them to take care of her. He kissed her and realized this was the last time I shall ever see her again, not long. After that survivors. Remember, seeing John Harper taking off his life jacket and giving it to another passenger.
He was laying down his life to save another and then he went up to the Patek, knelt down and started praying for the souls around him that they would be saved and find the Lord Jesus Christ. Finally a 240 the Titanic disappeared beneath the Atlantic Ocean leaving a thousand people in the water fighting for their lives but even the icy cold Waters did not restrain John Harper from urging people to come to Jesus Christ. It was said that it was swimming
up to all these different people who are perishing pleading with them to find. Find the Savior and forgiveness of sins that only Christ can offer. But even John Harper eventually drowned, and eventually stepped into eternity. Four years later at a huge meeting in Hamilton in Canada. A man stood up and said this, I am a survivor of the Titanic and on that terrible night. I was clinging on to a piece of wood in the icy cold Waters. When a man swam up to me and said, sir, are you saved?
I replied to him. I am not. He cried. Top of his voice, believe on the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. And then the current dragged, him away about an hour later. The tide brought him back to me. And he said, sir, are you now saved? I replied. I can honestly, say, I am not, and he cried out believe on the Lord, Jesus Christ. And thou shalt be saved shortly after that man. Disappeared beneath the cold Waters of the Atlantic and they're alone with two miles of
water beneath. Beneath me. I believe I am John Harper's last convert. Can I ask you the exact same question? Are you saved yet? Because whether you knew it or not, you are also on the Titanic is called planet Earth. And this ship is sinking. And one day, your body will be thrown into the icy cold Waters of death, and you will sink down and down and down. And I need to know when you get to the bottom, where you go to heaven or hell.
She didn't know this, but when the Titanic sank at the ferry office in Liverpool, they put up a huge board, right at the top. And on the board were two classes. One said known to be saved, and the other said known to be lost a my dear friend, there are only two classes in life, it's not rich and poor, it's not whether you're from the North or from
the south. It's whether you're lost or whether you're saved that is the only thing that will matter when this sea of judgment falls upon you are you lost or are you say? Saved. I mean, imagine let's go back to 1912 you and I and were there
and we're drowning in this cold. Icy waters as the Titanic has gone down, how many of you and that life raft would appear would say it's okay I'll rely upon my own swimming abilities. How many of you Say it's okay. I've got this piece of wood. I'll cling to that. That will save me. No, I believe. Every single one of you would have taken the hand of the man in the life raft and would have
been pulled into safety. And yet, to this very day, there are millions of people, maybe even billions of people right now who are relying on their own swimming ability, the wrong good works to get them to Heaven. They believe their false religion will save them. But in fact, it will drag them down and there is a Lifeboat, the Lord Jesus Christ. And today, he says, believe on me, take my hand and I will save
you. I am the one who's been plunged right down into the very depths of death itself and I came out on the third day and rose from the dead. I am the one who was tormented on the cross, I took the Sea of judgment, the wrath of God, for all of your lies. For all of your blasphemy, your sex outside of marriage, your drunkenness. I was punished on that cross so you could be forgiven. So don't trust in yourself but trust in me and I will save you and give you eternal life.
Oh my dear. And if you have not yet, come to the Lord, Jesus Christ. Just as John Harper urged, those perishing Souls. I urge you today come to him and Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
