that is why I'm here to help you do that. Now have you ever wondered how faith and persistence can transform your leadership journey? Well in today's teaching we're going to dive into how faith and the underlying persistence found in this story can help shape and elevate our approach and our mindset. Now today we want to look at first Samuel chapter one, a little lesson in leadership.
It begins in verse 10, it's talking about Hannah and it says in her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord weeping bitterly and she made a vow saying Lord Almighty if you will only look on your servant's misery and remember me and not forget your servant but give her a son then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life and no razor will be used on his head. Now persistence and faith and adversity is building block number one if you're ever going to do anything significant.
So Hannah's unwavering persistence and prayer despite her suffering and her childlessness illustrate a crucial leadership quality resiliency. We live in the softest culture that I've ever seen. People are soft, they quit too quickly, you've got to have a persistence, you have to have a fire that burns within that allows you to push through get to whatever it is is next your goal and the thing that you're building.
Okay, now look at verse 11, it says that she made a vow saying Lord Almighty if you'll only look on your servant's misery and remember me and do not forget your servant but give her a son then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life and no razor will ever be used on his head. So what is happening here? Well she shows a humility because she's saying God if you'll do this for me I'm going to fulfill my end of the bargain and follow through.
How many of us we only do things when we get the results that we want? Here's Hannah saying I'm going to give this child to you and God granted it and this highlights again the power of being humble and taking the low road and believing God even when you don't see what you have. Now real leaders they persist and they're also humble and they dedicate everything that God gives them to the service of others.
Like Canada she offered literally her son that she had prayed for back to God and back to God's service. She was selfless in what she was asking for. Was it for her? It was for the benefit of others. Now look at Lassie in verse 8, it says her husband Elkina would say to her Hannah why are you weeping? Why don't you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don't I mean more to you than 10 sons? Now this shows the importance of supportive relationships.
The support that Hannah received from her husband who loves her and supports her despite her inability to have children underscores the significance of supportive relationships in our life. I had eight people in my life that I could call if I had what I call an oh crap moment. You'll find out real quick who your real friends are, who the people who really have your back are. I have about eight of them and six of them are actually in my church that has eight people in it and my wife.
So you want to build your support structure in your life. Now this simple lesson today about persistence, about humility, about supportive relationships, they seem simple and they seem quick but without these three bedrock things you're not going anywhere in life. I want to give you the truth and I want to give you some nuggets that can help you. Now I want to thank you for joining me on this quick lesson today.
