From seeing the final Throbbing Gristle show in San Francisco, to creating the IOS world with all its collaborators, Dan has stories and insight for days. We had a great discussion with James Keeler of Wilt, celebrating his 25 years in the underground. James goes into his early days in rural Illinois, the beginnings of Wilt, putting together the classic "Radio 1940," and plenty more. Jim was in town, so he came over to the Connelly household to have a talk about Gilden and the process of putting the box set together. Dave Gilden’s work was once of the least attainable, but there’s been a vast unearthing of his material in the past few years, and Jim’s box set will be a huge look at Gilden’s discography. We are always fascinated with one off albums on classic labels, so it was cool to have a conversation with Gerald Stevens of Erinys, who released one CD in Tesco in 1998. In addition to his album, Stevens was an early inspiration for Greh to begin making contact mics. It’s a cool discussion from the distant days of the 1990s.
In keeping with tradition, we dive into the waters of field recordings for February and this time we discuss on of the classics of the genre - "Weather Report" by Chris Watson. Having spent time in Cabaret Voltaire and Hafler Trio, Waston set out on a lifelong journey recording in the field. "Weather Report" was his first compositional album in this style, and we get into every aspect of each track, from titles to location to possible sounds heard.
It’s the dead of winter and a Slaughter Productions tape felt appropriate for seasonal hibernation. Mortar’s self titled cassette fit the bill perfectly. Mortar is a necro project of Moreno Daldosso of Murder Corporation. Ancient times, old stones, sand, dirt, and storms are all present on this excellent 90s Italian cassette. Following up last week’s episode, we wanted to discuss an album by an artist from "Japanese/American Noise Treaty," and we landed on Contagious Orgasm "The Flow of Sound Without Parameter" on Ground Fault.
