¶ Teen Christian Conference
You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right . Well , I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right . There's only an up or down . This is the no Doubt About it . Podcast .
No doubt about it .
And now your hosts , Kristy and Mark Runcady .
I didn't know if you'd make it back . Quite frankly , banana Town , gallivanting , we were .
Gallivanting . All right Girls and I had to Dallas on Friday for the Teen . It's called there for Gathering . It's a teenage Christian conference . All these amazing speakers that come in . They actually do a lot of talking at adult women conferences . And then this conference which , ava , we've given you a little bit of video you can pull up . It was impressive .
We didn't really know what to expect . There were 16 of us that went out there and there was a lot of live music and really great speakers they had . Everybody from you can see the kind of and the girls it was all girls and they totally got into it which , was really cool . It was really , really fun .
And Jamie Ivy was there , Jackie Hulperry was there , which I have a couple of pictures of those guys too , Ava , if you want to show them . Tony Collier I can't say her name really well , right , but she's really good , she's got a whole ministry program so and it was just great . It wasn't like they spoke down to these kids .
They really were just really open and shared like real life testimonies and what they've kind of gone through , just as inspiration , because they're like life is hard and there's a lot of challenges right now and being a teenager , you know so would you consider this one of those things where these guys are more realistic , with these kids , you know , in regard to
what it means to live your life of faith , and that that doesn't mean it's this glossed over just pray to Jesus and everything will be great . I mean , god puts us in positions to deal with these difficult moments , and it seems like at least in this case , they're changing their approach a little bit . Do you know what I mean ?
Well , they were so open in all their testimonies . They were talking about that . God really does use brokenness and broken people more times than not .
And in fact , if we keep trying to say oh , no , no , no , we're great , everything's fine , right and we love Jesus and now it's going to be smooth sailing , you know they're really honest and they're saying listen , you may feel great today and sitting in this sanctuary and hearing these speakers , but you're going to go back to your bedroom and there's going to
be the days that you feel lonely and you're crying and you're upset and you feel like you've made mistake after mistake or you're just miserable or lonely or whatever that's . Call on Jesus . That's when he's there for you . And I just thought this is real and these ladies shared openly .
Some of them were going through a divorce , some of them have had a lot of strife in their life and they were just really honest . I mean health conditions , all kinds of things . I mean it was so impressive that I would tell any mom to take their teenage daughter to do it once a year . It's next year again in Fort Worth . It's always in Fort Worth .
It's at the Central Bible Church , arlington , in Arlington sorry , in Arlington , and I didn't mean to mix up .
Well , let me tell you something . I'm so sorry that I mixed up Fort Worth in Arlington . There's a difference . There's a difference .
Okay , it's at the Central Bible Church in Arlington .
Arlington , where the Cowboy Stadium is , and that is when you sent me the picture of 18 .
I did . We were right next to the stadium .
Yeah , I was like , well , that's time well spent . I mean I'm glad you got it .
There we go . Look at it . I took a picture for you . It's a Mecca right there . They were actually having a monster truck thing there .
Were they really ? Yeah , oh , gee , see , if I had gone with you , I'd have gone with the monster truck thing .
Oh yeah , you could I mean . Yeah , it was definitely not a dad's event .
So I just warned everybody about that that's great though .
I was there . She's punching in it . If it won't work , what ?
were your thoughts on it ? I actually , to agree with dad . It was a lot less like oh , when you feel bad about yourself , remember that Jesus loves you and be nice to everybody . It was a lot less of that .
And it's like hey , here's the issue , you're going to deal with drugs , you're going to deal with sex , you're going to deal with all of these problems , and it's like here's how we actually tackle them and deal with them .
And it took like really hard issues and was able to make them like here's the actual answer , like here's how we help you , rather than just telling you to believe in yourself and know that you have value . I thought that was really good because I was honestly , if I'm being honest , I was expecting it to be like here's how we all treat each other and all .
We all just get along and have fun all the time . And it was like no , that's not what's happening . I thought it was . I thought it was really well , they didn't talk down to us , they weren't patronizing .
Yeah , and I think part of this too , that you , when you start to realize I think there's a better approach now to to many of these programs and whether it's a women's program or a girls' program like this , or just churches in general .
I think there's been a lot of criticism of churches for for not being necessarily welcoming to people who have struggled for whatever that is . But then you look back in history , you look at what David struggled with , you look at what Paul struggled with .
Holy cow , right , and God uses all different sorts of people that have been chewed up and spit out , and so all of us can can learn from that and realize that this thought process and they're believe me , there are some Christians , I'm sure , that still go out there and they're busy passing judgment . That's what they're here for .
But then you realize that there are many others who who take those experiences and try to turn them into something really positive , and it is so much more relatable and it creates something , I think , that is is more long lasting , right .
Right , Because if you actually have a life where you realize , yeah , I'm going to make some mistakes , Things are not going to go well for me necessarily all the time , but it doesn't mean that God has abandoned me or doesn't mean that God isn't by my side .
Right , well , and Tony Kohler . I have a picture of her too , if you want to pop her up . She spoke specifically about what you were saying .
She said listen , not only are you not alone in this world , but also remember , don't be cast in judgment on other people based on either what they look like , how much money they have , if they're popular or not , or you know like , if they've made mistakes , or you know . I mean , she's really honest . I mean she talked about gossip .
She came into this wide-eyed . We can see that . Well , I took a picture from the funny she was really funny .
She was great . I'm not a good speaker there she's so , so good .
That's cool . She was so real .
And there was a woman who played college basketball . She got up and talked about how she threw away her scholarships because she just messed around too much in college and how God used that experience . I mean these ladies were bold , that's cool .
They just laid it out there and I think that's the reality of how you talk to your kids about Christ is just have them be real and have these and these ladies like I said , they speak to grown women in podcasts and books and speaking events and I listened to all of them .
So I always have loved these ladies and seen how real they are and I love that they just kind of share their real trials in life and to hear them speak to these young ladies and it wasn't , it wasn't rainbows and popsicles , and I mean it was for the older girls 13 to 18 .
Yeah , no that's it , so it wasn't for like middle school girls at all .
It was definitely a high school event , but if you are looking for something to inspire your daughters and igniting them , maybe you're a youth group leader out there , or maybe you're in college and you work with girls or whatever , and you could take them all as well .
So I think it's February 14th next year and I have a feeling we'll be going back 14th and 15th .
Yeah , We'll be going back . It was really impressive .
I guess we're not going to be celebrating that together ?
All right , we'll be worshiping the Lord as women . That's our little joke . You're not invited .
Yeah , well , that's okay , because Valentine's Day is absolutely a joke . Okay , it's phony , it's ridiculous . It should be going to something that actually means something during that time , versus some you know phony holiday that Hallmark created just so that we get to go spend $80 on roses and you know $20 on a card .
Wow , he's not better at all .
No , not at all . He's very romantic ladies .
He's very romantic , I promise you .
What are you wearing ? You have like all this . Well , first of all , by the way , no , no no , no , you guys go .
Yeah , you go to this event for girls to get in touch with their faith . Yeah , you go all the way to Dallas . You learn these great lessons , right . And then we get back , yeah , we get back into the house .
¶ Governor Criticized for State's Performance
I tell Ava Ava , I need to hop in the shower real quick before we record the podcast . Stand down , sir . And then all of a sudden , I hear the shower running . Ava bolts upstairs to get the only last bit of hot water we have left .
Yeah , we still do not have hot water .
No , we don't , I have not showered in two days .
I was on a plane .
Again , you're not , I smell like plane I look disgusting Again .
My hair looked wet .
Again , again . That's fine , I got to . We got to shoot the show , so I needed to shower . I haven't showered yet , okay , so because Ava stole all the hot water , that's it .
Oh , I did not .
Okay . So then I got to go with a hat number one Okay and then I'm kind of out of clothes . But this is my height , this is Scouts like Hello . This is my high school , cbu , champlain Valley Union High School . Oh my gosh , kynesburg , vermont and so I had this thing at the bottom of my t-shirts . I have not worn this .
I don't know if ever , but I'm enjoying it right now .
OK , OK .
And I'm a proud alumni .
Yeah , I was going to say you have a lot of product placement going on between the All Mart and the CVU . And then we got a lot of signage in our studio .
We do so it's good .
But I'm sorry , you'll get a hot shower at some point . We get this whole plumbing issue figured out . It's not great , I don't know .
Anyway , all right . Ok , we have a lot to get through here . I did . I'm still working on our guests . I'm sorry that I kind of fell down on that one , but we'll get that going . I promise we got a lot of interesting stuff to hit on . We're going to move pretty quickly today . I'm going to try to keep this a little shorter , please , for editing purposes .
What you don't see if you just listen to us . What you don't see is when it's on me , like the camera's on me right now , and if Mark feels like I have elaborated too much , he gives you the old , like this no , no , it's not like this .
I'll show you what I do . Give me a tie , dave , I go .
Yeah , like it , or he'll give me the wrap with his finger , like , come on , like , like the office .
Yeah Well it's not .
it's not annoying at all when you've got something that's like right across the table from you saying like yeah . Oh , sorry Anyway by the way , sometimes I don't get a word in . You're telling all the stories and I just sit back and go , OK , back to you .
Back to you , boss . That sounds like a good idea , Like very good show .
Ok , sir . Speaking of which , ok , let's kick it off .
Let's hit it . So for those of you who don't get the Albuquerque Journal with , I think , more and more people starting to fall into that category , we're going to start there . Today , the Albuquerque Journal eviscerated the governor for a headline that they actually ran last Wednesday . So take a look at last Wednesday's headline .
It says New Mexico was born to lead . Governor said OK , now the article , and we're not going to go through what the article said . On Wednesday , basically , governor sat down with business leaders in Albuquerque and said everything's incredible , we are doing incredible stuff . We're leading the country .
Yeah , we're leading the country Right and so the article .
There is a massive difference between the day-to-day reporters at the Journal and the Journal Editorial Board . The Journal Editorial Board holds the governor to account and then , when she does things well , they rip her Right or excuse me .
She doesn't do well .
There we go . Thank you very much , hello people . So when she does well , the editorial board lads her , and when she doesn't do well , the editorial board rips the governor . Ok , does it all the time .
And so meanwhile , the day-to-day reporters are flag waivers most days , for whatever power says Right , whatever nugget power gives them , they go right for it and they just support power . That's too often how it works there . Well , here's a look at the opinion piece from the Journal Ava .
I want to show the opinion piece first because it has a cartoon at the top of it and the cartoon is vicious . Ok , what the cartoon shows at the top of the article is yep , just go in a little tighter on it , Ava , if you can I don't know if you can . There you go , perfect .
So it's a picture of California driving the car and the governor in the backseat in a child's chair screaming we were born to lead . It is embarrassing , right . It is a shot right across the bow of the governor here , and some of the pull quotes from the article are unbelievable .
It says the governor's back patting speech Tuesday sounded like it came from an alternate universe , a universe in which New Mexico doesn't have one of the lowest employment population ratios in the United States . Currently , 55% of the people in this state work worse than Mississippi , kentucky and West Virginia and the national average at 60.3% .
If we were just to average the normal rate across the rest of the country , we have another 88,000 New Mexicans working . Then it says then there's the brain drain . New Mexico has some fine universities and community colleges , but our graduates aren't staying here . They are moving to other states and people aren't coming back in here .
In 2020 , the census showed that New Mexico only grew 58,000 residents in a 10-year period , while neighboring states places like Utah , Colorado and Arizona had the highest growth weights in the country . Unbelievable Final parting shot . We agree with the governor on one thing we are a leader on the list of bad things like crime , hunger and poverty .
We're also a leader in oil and natural gas production , which she never mentioned in this speech . It's the reason she's had endless amounts of money to spend and nothing is moving the needle they unloaded .
Yeah , well , and they should . I mean , honestly , when I ever see any of her tweets , I usually forward them to you and I'm like what is happening ? Are people that are ? Is her team just writing out tweets that she ? It's stuff that's not true at all . It's so gaslighting .
I'm like I hope people are paying enough attention to know what the reality check is here .
I think they see it in their own lives to some degree .
But I think if you don't see the numbers from other states , if you don't see that growth in Colorado has been at 15% during that same time , that we've had basically no growth , if you don't see it's been at the nation's highest in Utah at like 16% or 17% Arizona , you go to these other places and you realize that right now what's so scary to me is that
we are in a time with unbelievable wealth thanks to oil and gas , so we have a chance to change the trajectory of the state
¶ Concerns About Crime and Education
. And what scares me is we're not doing it . We're not improving reading outcomes . Everybody used to talk about Mississippi and New Mexico . Mississippi has blown us away . They're now 21st in fourth grade reading . They're 21st . They're not even near us .
And we have this opportunity to bring in reading coaches and to spend more time making sure that every one of our kids can read third and fourth grade . We have a chance to do that now . We have the money to create programs to do these things and we're not doing it . We have a chance to expand business .
We have a chance to take the tax burden off of small business owners , and we're not doing it . All of this has been provided to us by the best oil and gas industry in the world and I worry we're just watching it slip away . We're marking time expanding government , not expanding results .
Right . I mean , it just kind of blows my mind , even when people say what do you guys do in Albuquerque ? Is there a lot going on there ? Is it really ? You see how it's not bustling , especially when you go to other communities Like I get that Dallas isn't a totally different wheelhouse .
I get it . I'm not trying to compare Dallas to Albuquerque .
You can go to any city Phoenix , denver , I mean any of the other towns and you feel the vibrancy . You also feel I hate to say it you feel safer .
We've been put in a spot where we do . We have the best climate , we have the best I think you'd say culture , we have the best scenery , we have the best all sorts of things .
We have some of the friendliest people . I've said this a million times , but we have some of the friendliest people in any state . In New Mexico , we should be blowing .
literally . We should be blowing Arizona out of the water . I'm sorry that place is a furnace . I mean , are you joking me ? I'm seriously for people who go and the weather in Arizona is horrendous . Yeah , I mean we should be what they are . As far as being able to pick and choose , yes , because there's so much more culture and things .
So that's a part that scares me about this is that we have so much right now that has been given to us as a gift as a state and we're not getting it back into people's hands to allow them to improve their lives or to create a scenario where business owners and families can create a better path forward .
And this was even shown when the crime numbers came out in Albuquerque last week .
Right .
And I know you've seen that . So these numbers come out and you know this is tough because I think that you know obviously we're not seeing crime go down pretty much anywhere Right Now .
In some areas it's skyrocketing even more , but in many areas it is essentially the high crime has become the norm now and that just is what it is 100 plus murders a year in Albuquerque is just what we're in for now and unfortunately , some of these other crimes that the FBI talks about and their statistics are unbelievable .
And you can see the quote from Chief Medina on what's going on here and you can read the quote , Chrissy . But it's to me is one of those things where the chief is just sort of trying to put some lipstick on something . That's a very it's a rough scenario .
Yeah , he says . I know the critics will stick to the numbers that benefit them the most , but I think most everyday citizens are going to look at the individual number categories and recognize that there was a lot of hard work put in last year by officers and there's been a lot of success inside those numbers .
Now here , listen , nobody's going to sit here and say the police officers are not working hard , especially not us . We will never do that in a million years . That is not the situation that's handling here . But I would say , chief Medina , people aren't idiots . Like people are seeing , they feel it . They hear about the break-ins , they hear about the shootings .
You sense it . You see businesses shutting their doors , you drive down and there's places that are boarded up now , like I would appreciate them just coming forth and saying , listen , we have a significant issue , a significant problem here and we need to address it .
And these are the steps we're going to put in place , instead of just trying to say hey , hey , hey , no , look at us , we're doing . Our officers are working hard . Let's give them a round of applause and we're doing so much better . Things are getting better .
Well , at the same time , they're saying applaud the officers . The reason they do that is so they don't get shredded , because they know they're not empowering the officers to do their jobs . In fact , they're handcuffing them .
So one of the things that comes out of this is property crime saw its largest increase 43% in shoplifting , with about 2100 more offenses reported . Now get this . You want to talk spin ? Okay . Apd spokesman Gilbert Gallos partly attributed the spike in shoplifting offenses to more businesses reporting the offense . He said part of APD shoplifting operations .
The department sent letters to businesses and big box stores asking them to report crime . Oh , really .
That's the difference . That's it Really yeah .
Yeah , if they're not reporting the crime , then it's harder to investigate . Well , no , kidding , so many people have stopped reporting crime here because nothing has ever done Right and nothing changes and these people don't go to jail . So now they say oh no , no , no , this is all because everybody's reporting .
Now no , there are plenty of people that aren't reporting and most of the people that are don't get any response .
Right .
Because officers are overwhelmed . And here's the other thing . The third Nimbus category that the FBI looks at is defined as crimes against society . That saw a 49% spike , driven mainly in increases of 69 , 42 and 15% in drug offenses , trespassing , in weapons violations , respectively .
Okay , and if you look at the graph on the numbers and what's happened in Albuquerque since 2018 , this is what has happened in the crimes against society numbers they have skyrocketed .
Yeah , 136% increase in just in six years . That's quite a change , it's quite a shift .
Look , this is this is the sort of thing where we have to have accountability for these guys who we elect . And we say it all the time , I'll say it every show . It's not a Republican Democrat thing , it's not crime .
It turns out criminals . They impact every single person in the party and any party you're in , you know it doesn't matter . It's like criminals , don't care what your political affiliation is .
Yeah , they know they don't . They don't ask like hey , you're Republican or Democrat , You're Democrat .
Okay , I'm going to leave you alone . I'm going to leave you alone ? No , of course not .
So that . So that is . I mean . You see them try to put a shine on this . And , and the point is , we've reached such a level of crime now that that that we're so high and then we continue to see these things ramp upward . We have to . We have to change the way we operate and again , we talked about this during the legislative session .
They didn't pass any real tough on crime bills at all . No , okay , most of the governor's efforts were to take guns out of law . Inviting citizens hands . That's not going to bring crime down . We all know that Keeping violent criminals behind bars will , and so this is the sort of thing we have to push for .
This is the sort of thing we always push the media on , and this is why we do this show .
And I will say we've seen a growth in this show that , I think , surprises us , because we I thought we do okay with this , but more and more we're doing very , very well , because more and more people are saying you're talking about the issues we need to talk about , and we need the media to do the same thing .
Right , and so in , not just the journal editorial board , who does their part , there's no doubt , but the journal , writ large , day in , day out , stand up and when the governor says we're doing great , that are actually do a little research , and say , okay , well , wait a minute here , gilbert , wait a minute here . You know , chief Medina , look at these numbers .
They're , they're a massive issue here and again , not all of this falls on the police chief , because a lot of times he and the police department are dealing with a stack deck against them . But again , that's where we have to have discussions about fixing this stuff .
So yeah , like just solutions . That's what I guess . And you're here , we are an election year , right ? So we've got election year . Mumbo jumbo . It's starting to fly out of these people . You know you got the mayor election coming up , so there's a lot of talk about how well we're doing and crime . You know we're really managing the crime .
And I'm just like really . And then I mean what's interesting too , it's an election year , obviously , a presidential election , yep . So you've got MLG patent Biden on the back for all of his concern over the Southern border .
That's what she's tweeting about . We will get to that . Yeah , let's do that . No , no , no , no , that's perfect .
No , that's seriously like when I saw that tweet , I'm like is she really padding Biden on the back for taking care of our really tough issues on the Southern border ? When she said her herself , she said you're okay .
I'm directing Ava . I'm sorry you guys are like .
So yeah , she did she comes I mean a couple of years ago she's saying you know , she's like we don't have a problem at the Southern border .
You know , basically trying to calm everybody down , there's no problem at the Southern border , yeah you're right , it's like she speaks out of both sides of her mouth on this issue , this issue is devastating for Biden and for the left because of how clear it is , and I want to get to that because we pulled some stuff on this . So you were mentioning polling .
There is a new poll out .
Yeah .
And it's from the New York Times , okay , and so the New York Times is not exactly known for their , their , their love of Trump either . So these polls are pretty consistent across the board . Things look terrible for President Biden . So let's get to some of the takeaways here . Ava , it's . Yeah .
So this is the , the , the headline , which was big changes between 2020 and 2024 . Okay , and the big change is turns out Biden's unpopular . Okay . So let's get into the numbers here and see what they say .
And as you look at some of these numbers these are , it is like a royal flush of devastation if you are running for reelection , and that's what you'll see in these . In the horse race , trump up 4843 . Never been up that much on Biden , never . Okay . And now you're seeing it across a bunch of different polls Right track ,
¶ Economic Concerns Impact Election Prospects
wrong , track right . Ask that question all the time . It's what you care about when you're in the middle of an election . Right track 24% . Wrong track 65 . Look out the economy excellent , 7% , good , 19% . Okay , that's what ? Total of 26 , a quarter of the people in the country say that the economy's good . You're ready for this . Fair , 23% , poor , 51% .
So basically , three quarters of the people in the country say , at best the economy is fair and in most cases it's poor . Why ? Because inflation is killing family budgets . So don't tell me how great the economy's doing when your average family is getting crushed . Biden approval 36% . That's where he's been for a while . He's unable to move that number .
Biden favorability 38% meaning a few more people like him than think he's doing a good job . Trump favorability okay , this is crazy . Trump's favorability is higher than Biden's . Trump's favorability is 43% versus Biden's 38% . Trump's unfavorables are 5% below Biden's unfavorables . Kamala Harris this is what one of those deals .
Nobody talks about how unpopular Kamala Harris is . I don't know that . I think that that's fair . It's sure . Numbers just mirror Biden's , which makes sense , right ? And so the next round of numbers are interesting too . So did Biden's policies help you personally ? This is an absolutely brutal number . Okay , did they help you personally ? 18% said yes .
Did they hurt you personally ? 43% of people said they hurt them personally , and the other 39% said , nah , I didn't make much of a difference . So that tells you 8 , and 10 people are basically like either Biden's hurt me or hasn't helped me . Okay , it just kind of . He's an even okay . Now here's another one that's brutal .
Did Trump's policies personally help you ? 40% of the people said yes . Did they hurt you personally ? 25% . Okay , so that shows you and this is what makes this race so unique it's the fact that you have a former president who served just before the president we have now .
And as people look back and they say , how did I do with him versus the guy we have now , the numbers are stark and this is why there is plenty of concern on the Democratic side that they have a massive problem here , because Trump's numbers blow away Biden's numbers and , as we've said before , with the president's inability to carry his own message , he can't
move the needle and even when something goes well , no one gives him credit for it because they don't think he was really responsible for it . So they are in a spot which I think leads them to one conclusion , and that is they have to change out Joe Biden at the convention .
It's the only way this works and then they can save their chances at the White House . But if they continue to do this , they are walking in to a second Trump term .
Why don't you recap ? Because I tried to recap to these folks today at the Dallas airport A little bit of what I understood , how they could possibly do this , or they could just replace him with whomever they decide that they want to do . But who give a quick recap ? Just ?
so well , eventually , if you go to the convention , you basically would be looking at somewhere . Roughly , you would unbind all the delegates , right ? All the delegates that went to Biden would be unbound then , so they would not have to vote for Biden . Biden would say , okay , I'm out , whatever that . However , that works right .
And you go into the convention and you'd have roughly 1700 or so delegates that a variety of people would compete for . It's a mini-election . It'd be a mini-election in Chicago when there's going to be massive protests because of what's happening over in Israel . You're going to have all heck breaking loose there .
It's going to be crazy , and they could try to nominate somebody there , okay . And again you'd have a bunch of horse trading and people going back and forth Like guarantee Newsom would be in the middle of that , whitmer would be in the middle of that , who knows whoever else right .
Mr L Obama will be in the middle of that . Maybe she would be right .
Yeah , I think she will be Okay so then if you get those 1700 , then you nominate somebody and they go on to the stretch run in August and they run for two months and then you have the election , or you could wait till right after the convention and then the DNC names the person .
That's another tiny mini-election and that's 400 or so people that are part of that . That's the cream of the crop for the Democratic Party . So this is not some crazy thing that's so hard to do .
It's not .
But it definitely takes the voters out of the mix and they would be out of the mix on this .
So that's the part you know we'll have to wait and see how it takes out , and each day you think that they might cancel the convention because they could say it's a big security issue and we're going to either make it smaller or we're going to go to a different location or we're going to change . Could you foresee that happening ?
Because they will want to bring it back to the DNC anyway to make this decision .
I mean I know that's just kind of I can't imagine them canceling it . But I don't know , I mean I can't imagine them canceling it , I really can't . But security is going to be significant .
And I'm sorry . When is that again ? July .
August . They're not until the middle of August . It's way late .
And when is the Republicans ?
July .
July .
Republicans are a month earlier , a full month earlier , Okay , so , yeah , that's interesting . So , and one of the other things that was interesting to Ava , it's clip 15 . In this poll , in the New York Times poll , one thing and this is one of those things we keep hitting on time after time , and that is the economy and what's going on with the economy .
Despite the positive economic news over the last few months , 51% of voters still say the economy was poor . In a strange way , perhaps that's good news for Mr Biden . Maybe his standing will improve when voters begin to gain confidence . The economy has turned the corner . This is ridiculous . This is what I mean by elite .
You know New York Times writers who go and do this , or even Nate Cohn , I think . Add a touch on this one . Because you're not going to see prices drop . You're not going to see prices at the grocery store drop . You're not going to see interest rates drop , because we're starting to see inflation tick back up again .
Remember , when people say inflation isn't as bad , it means it's not going up as fast , but it's still going up .
Right , it's not dropping . Yeah , it's some crazy alarming rate that people but I .
That is the argument that when people want to believe the economy is good and they say the people it's not good for are just the middle class , but they'll , they're going to be fine soon because the inflation is coming down , like that is literally the argument that people get into with me on Twitter yeah and I'm like well , I'm middle class .
It's definitely affecting me , it's going to affect lower class , it's $1,000 per family per month .
Right , it's that simple . And so that's not going to improve . So that part of it is is brutal , because inflation is hard , because it doesn't tend to drop back .
It's kind of what they call sticky right , in other words , those inflation numbers go up and then they don't tend to sink back down , they tend to stay here , and then you keep going , and if you're salary , it doesn't match that , which , for most people , it's not even close . Right , it's a huge issue .
So then , then what you have here is Democrat reaction to the poll . Okay , and so what's interesting ? Avid's clip 17 . And so you've got a variety of different reactions to this . One of them is you know , a couple different people said this has the feel of a slow motion car crash , is what one Democrat described it as , and it said .
Somebody else said which is fair . Obviously these polls are a snapshot in time that's absolutely true , by the way , and the election is a long ways away , but it's pretty . Concerning , voter sentiment on the economy is stubbornly low . There's major slippage among voters of color , that's absolutely true .
African Americans and Hispanics are moving more toward Trump , or at least to be more competitive across the board there . This should be a wake up call that things have to improve and change .
Well , and a snapshot in time , fair , okay , we'll give them that , but do we honestly think that anything's going to really change ? I mean really change on the on the Biden side , right ? I mean he's not going to be like we've talked about a time and time again . He's not going to be able to go out there and win people over . It's
¶ 2022 Election Forecast and Whistling Debate
going to . To me , it's going to be either something that is an outside circumstance , something that we don't know it hasn't happened yet Whether that's another big war of some sort or some sort of conflict , some sort of I don't know I emergency type situation .
I think that that tends to when people , when there's an emergency situation , my understanding , at least in from the reading I've done , is that most people will tend to stay with the president in office . They'll vote them back in if we're in a crisis situation .
Now , I don't know if that's true , because I feel like , hmm , we were in the pandemic and we voted a different president , so I don't know how realistic that information is yeah , you don't know . But I just think the reality check is Biden's not going to do anything in the next couple of months , so you can say snapshot on time .
And we're so far away from the election . Are we , though ? Really Are we ?
Well , and then the other point that goes to what you're saying is state of the union , which is this week . Well , you know , I don't know what you think Biden's going to do in the state of the union .
Oh , I can't wait to watch it .
Look , I think he has to , has an hour to meet . The moment you don't have anything and just , can he deliver the lines off the teleprompter ? I don't know , we'll see . I mean he should stay on the teleprompter . He should not venture off the teleprompter . I just he shouldn't do it . He's going to get himself in trouble .
If he does , we'll have to wait and see . Now there are some Democrats who are like , wait a minute , this is not a problem . Obama's 2012 campaign manager , jim Messina . He says best predictor of elections is how voters vote and they're voting for Democrats and Biden . That's what he says . Okay , okay , maybe . And then it says whether .
Michael Tyler , who's Biden's campaign guy . He says , basically , if you go , look at these special elections and you see these smaller elections that still have been going the Democrats way , they then believe , okay , we're fine , that that's whistling through the graveyard . I think they're crazy , but we'll see Whistling through the graveyard . Yeah , you never do that .
You ever whistle through the graveyard .
I can't say I spent a lot of time in graveyards .
for starters , you should whistle through the graveyard at some point .
Whenever I've tried to whistle in front of you , you tell me to stop , I do .
I find whistling to be incredible . You know what I ?
mean , which is really fun . So when you went to bugmark , just like walk by and whistle- who whistles now , by the way , right , it's totally stopped .
Oh , I don't know , oh my gosh , you don't like whistling ?
My dentist used to whistle . Yeah , yeah , yeah yeah . My dentist always whistled through his teeth .
Oh well , he did my teeth as a kid .
How ridiculous .
I didn't bother me as a kid , I didn't . I was just part of his personality .
It fell out of favor . Nobody whistles anymore .
Andy Griffith . The Andy Griffith show , I mean come on the beginning of Andy Griffith . We got some whistling . You're making my point .
This is in the 60s . What are you talking about ? Like , honestly now , when's the last time you saw someone whistle ? I don't know . You don't know because it doesn't happen , because it's not . It's now not socially acceptable to whistle .
Oh , that's just not even remotely true , that's absolutely .
Ava , is there anybody that ever whistles at your school ? Ever ? There's only one , yeah , and he's a pariah , isn't he ?
No , I don't say that , no comment .
Okay , that's a statement I'm telling you .
No , and the other thing that drives you crazy is so I do like I do , I do like a little bit of ice cream from time to time and so when I scrape the bowl at the end it drives Mark crazy town , like he loses his mind . So I don't know if there's like noises out there that drive you crazy .
Well , no , because it's a certain texture of the bowl that it's like . It's like fingernails on a chalkboard .
Okay , All right , we'll try not to disturb your sensitivities , okay , no . I was , I was good , I won't whistle , or maybe I'll whistle and I'll scrape my bowl .
Okay , All right , but nobody whistles anymore . I'm telling you it's crazy . All right , All right . Another poll . By the way , Bloomberg had a poll last week . Okay , so this is . This was the swing state polls . Okay .
And they're all . They're all favoring Trump at this point . Every single one of them .
So here's , here's a look at the Bloomberg poll and and we'll just kind of go in tight , we'll go in on these for those of you that are listening to us to kind of give you an idea of the state . But the overall , the all states , all the swing states , the average is about five points . So you go down to Georgia , trump is up six .
Nevada , trump is up six . Pennsylvania , trump is up six . Arizona , he's up six , up two . In Michigan , up nine . In North Carolina and Wisconsin , he's up four . So this just shows you . If you think that you know the election's over , it's definitely not , but but still these numbers have to be troubling .
And if you were to end the election today , if you were or started today or you were to have it happen today , okay , look at the electoral map and what it would look like . Okay , this is what the numbers would look like . Trump would have 312 electoral votes , 91 more than he needs , and Biden would have 221 .
So if you're looking at it , the West Coast all goes to Biden . The Northeast all goes to Biden , and then the center of the country , basically from Florida to Montana , is all Trump , with the exception of , say , illinois , colorado and New Mexico . So you know , look , this is a , this will be a beating if it stays on this trajectory .
And again , that's why we're saying over and over again there is no way the Democrats go on this .
Oh , there's no way . It's not going to be Biden . I don't even know why anybody would even think that he's going to show up for that .
Okay , well , he'll show up . He may show up , but they may change the location on him and he'll show up . There'll be nobody there .
Nobody there , but where he is right now or where he was last week , was down at the border . You know , making things happen . Go into Brownsville where there's basically no crossings . So that's a really well done by you , sir , that you went to a spot that we don't see a lot of the crossings happening .
And he , you know , he I don't know what he was really saying , so he gave his speech , trump gave his speech right .
So they kind of kind of dueling speeches here , but but the thing that's so disingenuous about this is that they've ignored this for three years and saying there's not been an issue or anything else .
So I wanted to kind of give you a quick idea of what's happening now , what they're saying now and what they said then when they got into office , Exactly Because it's hello . So let's go to what Biden says right now .
So he was getting I think he was heading out for the weekend and reporters got a quick shot at him and said , hey , what's going on with the border ? And what Biden said was something that that I think we need to talk about here . And so here's what Joe Biden said about the border and about securing it why are you waiting to take executive action ?
on the border Because we need more forces on the border . I don't have the authority to do that .
You don't have the authority to protect the border . That's just patently false , right ? Okay , he absolutely does you have ?
you had the power to strip away any protection for the border when you took office , so which he did .
He took 94 executive actions in relation to the border . Okay , whether it be ending , remain in Mexico . Stop building the wall , not halting deportations .
He did all of it .
Ending title 42 . So Alejandro Mayorkas , who is the head of Homeland Security , when he came into office , the first thing he started to do was brag about how they were going to stop enforcing border law and roll back what Trump did on the border . Listen to this .
But Trump era immigration policies have been banned , ended , reversed and , if any , investigations are underway , by you .
So we have rescinded so many Trump immigration policies . It would take so much time to list them you're right , sir .
You have , and because you've done that , we've seen the most epic Fail along our border in this country's history , and the numbers are staggering 25 , eva , check this out . Look at these numbers that we've seen come through while we have had Biden in office right .
I mean they've just skyrocketed up to what I mean . The last one here , just under 2.2 .
So , yeah , so in 2017 we had about 300 people cross . Yeah , a thousand people cross and now up to 2.2 . And now we're 2.2 million . Yeah , here I mean it's . It's so ridiculous for them to sit there and say I can't do anything , when you just heard my orcas say we have rolled back everything we can roll back the Trump has done .
This is an epic disaster that they own . They don't need any more laws to be passed . Enforce the laws that we have Shut down the border and stop this . But they want to try to blame share on this . I don't think they're gonna be able to do it .
Well , they do . They want to blame , show . They want to also blame the Republicans in Congress that are that they're holding us back , they're not allowing us to do our job , they're not voting things in . And I just think , do you think we were all not paying attention ? I remember very vividly . I want to say it was the first 48 hours he was in office .
They did a press conference and he was like I did this , I did this , I did this and they were . It was all the things you were just talking about and I'm thinking Do you not think that we all remember that ?
So I don't know , maybe hopefully media out there might do the same Justice for all of us and show us what he actually said Days after he was elected there it is the process that he put in place , how they absolutely have had ramifications and the fact that he is the cause of this . He created this problem .
And so to sit here and be like , oh gosh , if those Republicans in Congress would back me up , we would not have these problems today , right ?
It's . It's . It is the most you know . We talk about the term . It is beyond gaslighting . It is the most Pinnacle example of gaslighting . It really is . And , by the way , how are things going now ? Bill Malujan from Fox News says it's still rough . Numbers are slowly ticking back up at the southern border into March .
Per the CBP sources , there were just over 7000 migrant encounters yesterday , led by Tucson , with almost to uh yeah , 2000 , almost apprehensions , san Diego , 1200 . Now check out this El Paso . The El Paso sector had 1200 , most of them coming through New Mexico , by
¶ Border Crisis and Threat to Democracy
the way . Yeah . So for those of you who think there is no issue in New Mexico , no , there's no coverage of the issue in New Mexico , but , as Bill Malujan said , 1200 illegal crossings in the El Paso sector . El Paso has taken it very seriously .
Governor Abbott is taking it very seriously , Our governor is not and we're having a major issue here in the state as well . Are we seeing coverage on it ?
No , no . And if you think there's no problem it with New Mexico , with people crossing in New Mexico , why don't you ask why governor Abbott had to put a fence up between New Mexico and Texas to protect his state from all these Illegals crossing over there ? They just was a wide open .
They're like we'll come through New Mexico , no big deal , and then we'll cross right into texas and gap , and Abbott said , no way , we're not going to do it .
So if you , if you really get your head in the sand that deep and you do not believe we don't have an issue with that because Of whatever our governor has been saying all these years , wake up and actually look at all of the details that are coming out about this .
So finally , some of them are coming out and I think one of the scariest parts of this and we've talked about it all the time and that is that it is not compassionate to have an open border , it's cruel .
So let's take a look at this clip because I feel like it's from Chad Wolf , the former secretary of homeland security . He says it better than anything . I could say his numbers . I want you to listen to this . It's staggering about human trafficking coming across .
It's . The other piece that I'm continue to be concerned about is the influx of Children that have been trafficked across that border . You are almost seeing about 500,000 children in the last three years and every single one of these children are unaccompanied , which is to say they are trafficked across that border .
Uh , and we know because we have reporting from of all places . The new york times it says that the bite administration has lost contact with over 85,000 of those children , not knowing where they are in the country , who they place them with .
And that is concerning , and I think that is not being talked about enough , because that that goes to the heart of a humanitarian crisis that we see today .
Like wake up on this issue and what we're doing here I mean we're allowing these kids to come across basically as slaves and we're not doing anything about it Like I don't understand how we just keep justifying this behavior .
It's , it's cruelty and and it is absolutely putting lives in danger , and to a level that I don't think we've ever seen before in this country . Now , and so to think that that you can allow this to happen and that you're the good guy in this ?
you're not , and so it's not even to mention not even to mention what the risks are For anybody that feels like that . They've come across , they hate americans or they hate our country , and they're flooding in . What's gonna ? We're just gonna sit back and wait and see what happens . I mean , that's , that's the in game .
So I just think we I don't know how anybody isn't screaming , you know , wake up over this to biden .
Okay , well , agreed , I think it's . By the way , we do have indications now that it is the number one issue right now For people in the election , so we'll see what happens with it . It's never been the number one issue , at least in our lifetimes I don't think , and and this time it it could well be .
Um , okay , so as things continue to kind of spiral a little bit , I was shocked . You're not going to believe this piece of audio . So , uh , morning joe is kind of msnbc's morning show and they had a guest on by the name of , uh , professor tom shaller . Okay , he wrote a book called white rural rage . Okay , you will not believe what this guy says .
So this was last week mika brzezinski was interviewing him . And basically now , because they don't like where the the country is as far as their frustration with politicians goes , they're now starting to to bring on people to just turn on on the electorate , and this is no surprise that that they're targeting people in rural you know america .
But listen to what happens in this sound bite this is . I was just floored by how disgusting this is . Listen to this .
Joining us now professor of political science at the university of maryland , baltimore county , tom shaller , and journalist and opinion writer paul waldman . Their new book out tomorrow is entitled white rural rage the threat to american democracy . Democracy , and tom will start with you Uh , why are white rural voters a threat to democracy ?
At this point , you would think , as we pointed out , looking at joe biden's background and donald trump's , that that the opposite would be true .
I mean we lay out the fourfold interconnected threat that white rural voters post
¶ Rural America and White Christian Nationalists
to the country . First of all and we show 30 polls and national studies to demonstrate this , so we provide the receipts in chapter six they're the most racist , xenophobic , anti-immigrant and anti-gay Gay geodemographic group in the country .
Second , they're the most conspiracies group q and on support and subscribers election denialism , coveted denialism and scientific skepticism obama birtherism . Third , anti-democratic sentiments they don't believe in an independent press , free speech .
They're most likely to say the president should be able to act unilaterally without any checks from congress or the courts or their bureaucracy . They're also the most strongly white nationalist and white christian nationalist . And fourth , they are most likely to just excuse or justify violence as an acceptable alternative to peaceful public discourse .
So you mentioned a Just Unbelievable .
The fact that msnbc even for them To platform this guy to allow him to say the stuff he says , which is so Patently horrendous it is , is shocking to me . Here we go again , the white christian nationalist .
Here we go again .
Yeah if you're someone of faith , then all of a sudden , you , you believe in the declaration of independence . No , no , no , no no , you believe that the president should be able to do whatever he wants . What are you ?
talking about ? Yeah , nobody said that . And , by the way , with with no checks and no balances .
It is unbelievable . And when you think of of rural , especially if you don't spend time In rural portions of this country and obviously we're a rural state and we spend a lot of time out in rural new mexico and you're talking about people who , in these , smearing these people in a way that is horrendous and and look these are .
You know there are so many of the Values of this country are found in in rural america . And this guy , some clown from you know , mariland somewhere , some some professor who sits there and calls everybody in rural america white Racist . This is the problem we have when you start dividing people and turning , turning things on each other .
You you create this In msnbc just fuels this well and let's not keep it .
That's not forget . We brought this up a couple of shows ago . Minka and joe from the morning show they are . They're in bed with obama , with um joe biden .
Yeah , I get that , but if you're joe biden , but if you're joe biden , you hear this , you're like shut up , that is it . They have lost working class america . Okay , they have okay , and so this doesn't help them insult white class .
No , no , no , it's not even white .
I'm just saying that they've lost the working class people of this and this is in books like this are the reason why , and they're calling it white Rage right .
So you're just picking out a race . We're gonna call out this race .
Oh , it's a completely racist .
People have come up with this thing , the craziest things . I think what's happening is the word Racist or white supremacist is kind of losing .
No , it's spark a little bit . Yeah , because everyone is . No one is right , so it's like people like yeah .
No , they're not . They're not white supremacists because they they go to church like .
I'm sorry , but that's just not what's happened with one last thing , um , and that is uh video of the day . Okay , now this comes to us from an island in alaska and a bit's clip 38 . So in 1994 the last mcdonald's shut down , and attic island , alaska quite a transition yeah , you like that into mcdonald's . I know , but I had to .
I know , but I'm running out of time , so uh but uh . So I want to show you the menu . Okay from from this thing . It's , it's wild . So if you take a look you'll see some of the . The price I mean the happy meal prices are like three bucks play a fish , couple of bucks , a big Mac a couple of bucks .
You can dino size the fries because of Jurassic Park the first Jurassic Park . So they're dino sizing the fries and then you got hash browns , you got your breakfast burritos , you got the . Remember when they used to do full plate breakfast at McDonald's .
I do remember that yeah that's what this was , and so this remote Alaska Island had a McDonald's up until 1994 . But if you look at the menu , it's pretty clear . I mean 20 nuggets for five bucks Fantastic . So it's just unbelievable .
They didn't have your earthland and sea or whatever .
Oh , land , sea and air land , sea and air .
Yeah , no , the land sea and air .
Yeah , if you ever get a chance , you get the land , sea and air . So what the land , sea and air is it's getting . They basically give you a hamburger , they give you a filet of fish and then they give you a chicken sandwich . All in one . It's called the land , sea and air .
Try to order to McDonald's except they don't give it to you all in one , they just give you three separate sandwiches .
That was a mistake that happened here , yeah yeah , mark tried to go and order the land , sea and air . I know they gave me three different .
Yeah , I was like I don't need all that . I want them all on one .
Okay , well , I want to end with a couple of our comments .
Yeah , absolutely .

So comment number one comes in from Dave the something sorry , dave , it's something he says . I agree 100% . Enforce the laws that are on the books . And this was in response to we were talking about In last week's show with Medina and Biden , and just you know , do we really need to be crafting up all new content ? The next one comes in here .
This is from Blodgett , bunch six Saying . My first thought when I heard the Obama people want Biden out there more was , of course they do . That way , america can truly see how incapable he is , if there was any doubt , and it would make it that much easier for Michelle to slide on in there .
It is save the day and she's , you know , she's like I don't have me cynical or realist here , but I , you know , I totally . I wrote back to this person . I was like , yeah , I agree , like that's kind of what I've been saying . It's gonna be Michelle . So and then this last one , crystal Franco on Facebook said fantastic podcast by Mark and Christie .
If you aren't following them , you really should . I always learn something new from them , like today . I learned that I'm a Christian nationalist because I believe in the first line of the US Declaration of Independence . And then she went on . She actually listed a ton of stuff .
Yeah , she had a lot of fire , which I appreciated , and it's just , it's gonna be a matter of like I Don't want to live in this world .
We have to fight about our issues all the time , but I do think when somebody comes at you and calls you a Christian nationalist , please enlighten them on what that you know , ask them what do you think that's supposed to mean ? You know , and get their take on it . Because I just think here we go again . It's just gonna be . This is a PR campaign .
It's plain and simple what this is and this is a new twist on some language to try to , to try to take away and and speak down to people .
Speak down to people of faith , that's what this is about , and I think the key point for us here , and what we always try to pass on to you , is Less about partisanship and more about issues . Talk about the issues that are important , and that's what we're trying to do .
And and so now what you find is a lot of people don't want to talk about the issues that they . They want to create this fight that keeps us divided , keeps us at each other's throats . But if we start to break down the issues and say , look , where do we go with this ? We all know there's a problem on the board .
We all know there's a problem with crime . We all know there's a problem with working families being able to get to the end of the month . Let's solve those issues .
And we start attacking those issues , you start finding out that number one you agree on more than you think , and when you don't , and when they turn that argument to You're a white , rural , you know Racist or whatever it is , like this guy does on MSNBC you realize at that point You're not dealing with rational actors here and that's where you stand up and say
we got to do something about it . Yeah , I mean , and that's just it . And it doesn't have to be some political fight all the time . A lot of times , especially the issues we have in this state , it is Find those issues , find solutions and advocate for those solutions , and so we'll keep doing it .
Yeah , and and also I'm just gonna have this little fresh tip Republic conservatives , we have to stop saying that Michelle's a man . I'm sorry , but we got to stop that one , that's just . I hear that all the time and you know it's . It's as ridiculous as saying goes . Obama wasn't born in America either .
Like you have enough to fight on , to disagree with on policy . I think the character attacks have to stop , like that's not gonna help us be more unified , it's not gonna help us with the divide , and I just to me . Those are two arguments I get so tired of actually hearing because they're just it's , it's , it's a done .
That's an ain't . Yeah , it's dumb , so let's move on from anyway .
Okay , covered a lot today .
Yeah . Yeah , I'm not on Thursday as well we're a little longer than I want it , but on Thursday we are going to talk about a moonshot that we need to take in this country and in this state .
