¶ Teenagers and Snow Day Fashion
You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right . Well , I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right . There's only an up or down . This is the no Doubt About it . Podcast . No doubt about it , and now your hosts , Kristy and Mark Runke . We're back .
Wow , I know , it's a snowy Monday .
It is . It's been a cold past three or four days , couple different storms .
And we're actually filming this on a Sunday afternoon to have it for you guys . On Monday it's snowy Sunday . Here's the thing the kids are wondering we're here in a rumor that Monday is going to be a snow day Because they've had three weeks off school .
So they should absolutely have another day .
They need a snow day today .
Seriously , you were lucky to get two weeks Lucky .
Oh for Christmas break .
Yes , oh no , that was standard . You got two weeks . And so now they're three and a half .
They're like three and a half .
Well , our school's a little different .
They do give a little extra time .
Not all winter breaks are that long . It is literally just , that's not long . It's unreal Most kids were in until three days before Christmas .
No , no , this is . What I appreciate about the school that the girls are at is the fact that they knock out the finals , right , and then they're like bye , like they don't keep you in there and make you have parties and watch movies and all the stuff that the other schools . The other schools aren't doing anything , they're wasting time .
And you can talk to parents and tell you that they got out on the 13th of December 14th actually Unreal 13th of December . And what's the date ? I mean , what is the date now Are ? We like late January .
Well , officially , when this is airing , it's January 8th .
Yes , okay , they had darn near a month . Okay , well , all of those like she's in college now . Am I not realizing what's happening here ?
It's crazy . I do think that it's just a little . I love having them home , though I love having the time .
Well , I know what I've really learned is that I was genuinely concerned about bed source , because these guys they'll go to bed and we'll start the day whatever day . Yeah , We'll get to two o'clock in the afternoon . I'm like , where are they ? Yeah , they're still sleeping . It's , that's nuts .
That is something to do with the teenage brain . Though I've read about it , I try not to panic about it , because they also stay up till two in the morning . Yeah , that's still 12 hours of sleep . Yeah , they're teenagers , they need that . What I wouldn't give for 12 hours of sleep .
Oh , my gosh In like a single week . If I could do that one time .
One time One week .
I'd be thrilled Totally .
Anyway . So yes , we got back from the holidays and then we both came down with a little bit of illness . Goodness gracious , mark started the funness in our house . Yeah , it's been really fun .
It's been a solid nine days , yeah , of just getting drilled . Yeah , it's been a tough deal .
Just hanging out scouts in here to say hello . So , ella , we have Ella producing today . Ella Scrappy Ron Kettie is joining us , hello .
All right , thanks , kiddo .
She's got her massive , I mean this massive Stanley water thing , water cup thing , right , it's quite a trend and I don't know for everybody out there that's that has teenage daughters , you know they're really focused on these like super expensive water bottle fashion things , right , whether it's like the Stanley thermos or cup or whatever you want to call it , I think
that thing's a thermos , personally , I mean .
I'm so Stanley , is that like the old school ? Yes , okay , like they reinvented themselves . Yeah , like you're going to the , you're going to the factory and you got the Stanley .
Yeah , my mom had that . Which is that ?
soup in it from from the night before oh my mom only had coffee in hers , but yeah she had the Stanley thermos and she came to work oh yeah . That's it , huh yeah .
So I just think it's funny , cause when I was a teenager , I don't even think I drank water . Pretty sure I just drank .
Yeah , the first time was like you were like that sophomore in college , yeah .
Right , oh no , not even in college . I'm pretty sure I didn't . I drank water during basketball practice . You just went to the fountain and got that . It wasn't like you carried around a massive thermos , but I guess I'm glad that these guys are drinking anyway . It's just this weird fat .
I feel like that's out there right now and it's all about water ball fashion . So okay , so we've had . Um , now my voice is going , so you're welcome for that .
Yeah , yeah , thanks , mark , thank you , you're welcome .
Thank you so much , mister . Anyway , um we've gotten quite a few comments Um , our holiday edition show was really successful .
Yeah , it was good .
We , you know we had Louise and Squire on very upbeat , very positive , One of the most positive energy shows we've had as far as , just like I mean Squire , you just need to be . If you need some positive in your life , go back and listen to our holiday special .
Yeah .
Because that man said he's never been down Really and I'm like whoa , that's pretty impressive . So anyway , they were sweet , Louise was really funny and she is very . I mean I didn't know she was with like a Tim Conway and all those yeah .
On stage .
So it was a really fun episode of Haven't a Chance . We've got some fun feedback I want to share with you . Mary and Ray said another great podcast with Squire and Louise . What a sweet , godwink love story . They're an amazing Christian couple . Um , then blodget bunch six said uh , such a cute couple .
I have an idea of a husband gifting his wife with a commitment of prayer . I do too , by the way . I think it's awesome . Um , my inviting fan . A great podcast . I truly enjoy all of them . It's great to hear conservative Christians , christian couples , talk about the world . Thank you so much for writing in about that .
And then , this is my personal favorite , because this was just off of our little preview because you were sick , right . Um , that we put up on a Thursday and this this gentleman , randall Sheriff , wrote me in an email to to our info at no doubt about it . Podcastcom said I love your show . I thought maybe you might want to watch JFK .
What the doctor saw it's on Parma . It goes along with what you were saying today , christy , and I believe . Thank you , I mean , I know people are like a in my conspiracy theorist . I'm not . I think you're almost a conspiracy theorist . If you don't believe , if you like , if you only believe in Oswald anyway .
The other thing we got kind of into this week , um , is watching this Bobby Kennedy documentary on Netflix . I think it was really fascinating , um , it was really well done . A ton of history in that . I mean , obviously I wasn't around during the Kennedy's heyday , right ? I mean we , I wasn't even born until 1973 .
So this was something I missed completely , um , and I just thought this showed it a good job of showing kind of their
¶ Reflection on Chaotic Times, Hopes for Unity
stretch . What you and I talked about afterwards was just how chaotic the country was during this time and sometimes we think , oh my gosh , this country's so divided right now . It's such a , it's such mayhem . Well , honestly , nothing new under the sun , right ? Because really , those late sixties you have MLK shot , you have Bobby Kennedy shot .
JFK shot .
JFK shot in the early sixties , it well , it felt very . You had the Vietnam war going on . You had just all this tension in the country and I have to say that as much as I have always been fascinated with the 1950s , I've thought , oh , that was the era I should have been born , was like the fifties , the forties of the fifties .
Then I'd have to live through the sixties and I'm like I don't know , that was not my cup of tea from all of that , but anyway , great documentary .
Well , can you imagine too , I mean , that stretch , you really think about that stretch from the early sixties and 63 , when , when Kennedy shot , really all the way to Reagan being shot in the early eighties , that was a that was a 20 year stretch where we really had political figures that were in real danger .
And I think we've stepped back from that to some degree . I hope we never returned to that . But we do tend to have this moment of of of thought that it could never be worse than that . I mean , it's so you know the country is so divided and then we're seeing people like you know JFK and you know MLK and RFK , and and eventually Reagan shall all shot .
Right .
And you start going what the heck is going on ? And I think I think that's what a lot of people started to bring up now where we're because we're in such a divided time , they worry or turn to that as a possibility . I hope it is not .
Right .
You know . But but you're right , you do tend to have this thought process that that it's never been worse than this . Oh , I know , and it may maybe , maybe not , but there are definitely some unique portions of the sixties that were that I do not want to ever see this country relive .
Well , and I think , even if you're not a Kennedy fan , I mean , we both grew up in very strong Republican homes , and so the Bobby Kennedy documentary is just a great historical piece , yeah it really frames the history of the country in that time , and I mean , if I was a history teacher , I'd be showing clips of that in my classroom , quite frankly .
But I just think it's important to kind of remind ourselves sometimes that this country has been under chaotic situations in the past . This is not going to be the last time . While it's unfortunate and we'd all love some more unity , I do believe we will get back there eventually . I just don't know how long it's going to take us .
But my prayer and my hope for this country is that we do come back and be more united and not just filled with such like divisive hate towards somebody that disagrees with you politically , like it's just , it's infuriating and it's stupid , and I hope that we can rise above all this at some point and really come together again as a country .
No , I agree , and really fast .
I didn't even tell you I was going to mention this . Mark and I went and saw boys on the boat , boys in the boat .
Yeah .
Oh my gosh , speaking of just patriotism and love for country , If you have not seen this movie , go run . Go now buy the ticket . If you read the book , I'm behind you , because I just got the book and I can't wait to start that as well . We took Ella , ella . You even loved the movie , so I did .
I thought it was a really good movie .
Really good movie . She thought the guys were pretty smoking . Yeah , they were all really hot .
Yeah , that helps . Oh Jesus , Okay , all right . All right , I'm not from this . This is not going to be some , Anyway , it was one of those .
like the show Miracle you love Miracle the movie Miracle .
Oh yeah , absolutely so . Very similar it's about the 1936 Olympics .
The routine from UDUB which .
I know is your rival . Well , let's be honest it's the only time I've ever rooted for the University of Washington .
I know People in the audience are like cheering and clapping and getting fired up and I just I have my eyes welled up .
Yeah , it was great .
It's just really well done . So if you want a little patriotism and a little reminder of how we can come together as country ghosty boys in the boat , yeah , no , it's very , very good .
And by the way , and yeah , and I have to say , over the holidays I , our lives , changed a little bit . I got an email that sort of changed everything for us , oh , okay . And I think , well , I wanted to share it because I think you need to know where we're coming from .
Now you might be saying , look , these guys seem like they're high rollers and things have really gone their way . And I want you to know why . Okay , and so here's what I got in my inbox Just hello , sir , I saved three million and I want you to keep this secret and to receive it in your account as my next of kin for an investment .
Add me on your WhatsApp and then they put their telephone number for better communication , regards Brown . And then he has his email .
So I hope you jumped on this .
I did , I did and I gave him , like he just needed some information for me .
Good Like you're . So security number yeah , so security number bank account numbers , everything , so I actually gave that all to him . I'm now .
I'm now waiting for the transfer into our account . Okay , great . So I think as soon as that happens , I pretty much , and you know I got three million you know so very solid . I want you guys to know that , look , I'm still going to do the show , okay , but I don't know that I'm going to be quite the same guy .
Okay , so you're going to be a millionaire because obviously , brown has given me $3 million .
Well , hey , we did have one little stroke of good luck . I mean , this week took it as a little sign that things were really going to turn in our direction . I played the Powerball ticket . I never play Powerball , we never do it .
I was in my hometown there's a 7-eleven on the corner of Mulberry and Shields that I grew up going to getting my Slurpees and nachos and all the thing . We went there to get gas right before we left town and Powerball was like I don't know $750 million at the time , something like that . So I'm like , why not ? I'll buy a ticket . I hadn't bought one .
I'm like this is if I'm going to win ever , it's going to be in my lucky childhood store , right ? So I buy a ticket . We're coming down . We stay the night in Colorado Springs that night and I get four of the six numbers , including the Powerball number .
No , no , no , no , no , no . You didn't get four of the six . Had you gotten four of the six .
Four of the six counting the Powerball . No , no , no , no , no counting the Powerball . Okay , yeah , I did .
So we got . So we got three of the five .
Right Three of the five Normal numbers and the Powerball .
Which you went a hundred bucks . Right Now , had we gotten four of the five , we got 50 grand . We were one number off from 50 grand .
Dude , if we had gotten all six , we would have gotten 750 million . Where are you at with ?
it . That would have been really cool .
Anyway , here's the bummer part . So , yes , our luck changed . We're like , oh , look at us , we got a hundred dollars , that's pretty fun . And then we're a little bit of idiots because we didn't know that you had to take it to a Colorado gas station to actually transfer it .
Like we come in , I come into Ritone , I'm like , hey , here , could you just check and make sure my lot of tickets a winning ticket and the guy's like this is from Colorado , ma'am , you're going to have to go back into Trinidad .
Which we did not do . We did not do Anyway moving on .
That was a little bit of our .
Yeah , so we're going to hit a variety of issues today . I want to hit a common thread for you on something that we're kind of noticing , on a variety of different stories , which we'll get to in one second here , but for many of you in New Mexico , you know that the 30 day legislative session starts next week . We will be on top of that .
We're going to cover it . We're going to cover what kind of bills come through . Are there going to be real crime bills ? Are there going to be crime bills that actually make an effort to try to reduce
¶ Issues and Concerns
?
crime . I'm going to go ahead and take a guess and say no .
Well , we'll see what happens , Maybe we should start making bets on that . Right , well , I mean look .
I don't think it's going to be a lack for trying . I shouldn't say that .
Well , not on at least some people's parts , right ? The question is , will any of those get through ? Or will this be one of these deals where it's hey , let's go try to take away guns from law abiding citizens and hope that that passes for actual crime bills and it won't so ? But hopefully that will not be the case . We'll see what happens .
We're going to monitor that , see what bills drop and see what happens there . Is there going to be some tax relief for New Mexicans , massive states or pluses because of oil and gas and we're going to get into that at the end of the show as well , and what oil and gas has meant to the state of New Mexico .
But but , by the way , if you go to the legislature this year , once again three and a half billion dollars in excess revenue , really solely because we have the best oil and gas industry in the world in this state and it continues to fund everything . So they're looking at massive increases in spending continuing .
Now , whether that makes sense or not depends obviously on the program , but I definitely think people need money back in their pockets , hoping that's going to happen . So we'll watch all of that stuff for you , is it ? You know , as it comes through .
We're not going to be this legislative session show that's going to bore you to tears , but we will bring at least some of that information and when it becomes interesting we'll give it to you .
But there is one thing that may happen , which was released a couple of days ago , which is it's heartbreaking to see this , but I think it makes sense when you consider how poorly things have gone with CYFD .
Yeah , they're talking about right now . There might be big changes . There's a tweet that came out from the New Mexico Child First Twitter handle and it says the department has reached which I think is what I would call a downward spiral , almost a death spiral . So , senator Jerry Ortiz Epiño , yeah , Epiño .
Epiño , who is proposing a constitutional amendment this 2024 legislative session to remove CYFD from the governor's control .
Yeah , I'm in . Look you know , we'll see how this all plays out and whether it's the right thing to do , whether it's not . I think it may well be the right thing to do . The results have been really , really catastrophic right now , and this has gotten to the fore . They can't get good people to come in , that they can't protect children in this state .
It's one of the big things we talked about during the race was that something had to change . It hasn't , and so therefore , now , just so you know , if there is a vote on this , if there is a constitutional amendment that will require your vote , and so this is what we mean when we say you take it to the legislature .
They lay out the parameters of what the amendment would look like , and then you get to vote on it and then you get to decide . So we'll see what ends up happening with that . Just one of those things that I think , when you see that issue pop back up again , it's just heartbreaking .
I really do hope it comes to an amendment process . I really hope that that's the case , and we do have a lot of good contacts that really work with CYFD2 that we could always get on the phone with too and try to find out some perspective .
It is one of those issues we'll touch on is it moves along a little bit further as we get into this , okay . So I want to . So let's talk a little bit about three different issues here , and I want to tie them together because I think , in a weird way , they all tie together , okay .
And so I want to start with the border , because this morning or Sunday morning , cbs came out with a new poll . Okay , and this is what the poll says . It says the situation at the US Mexico border is what ? How would you describe it ? 45% of the people say it's an absolute crisis . 30% of the people say it's very serious .
So that's 75% of Americans are like we got a real problem here . Right , okay , that number is far higher than it has been in a long , long time , right , okay .
And what struck me in all of this is how the media , in the way they've operated , has been devastating on this issue , and what I mean by that is there are certain media outlets like Fox News would have been all over this thing for years . This has been three years in the making . Three years , right .
This thing has been going on and getting worse and worse for three years . The media hasn't touched it for years , saying it's not happening , it's not a big deal . Republicans are making a big deal out of it All , everything , all the way around .
Right , they're heartless , we're heartless . Whatever , yeah , whatever you want to call it , it's usually , it's not an issue , it's just not an issue , it's not a problem Right .
It's not a problem , okay , so Bill Mollusion puts this number out and you'll see it here Breaking CBP sources tell Fox that there have now been over 276,000 migrant encounters in the southern border in the month of December , the highest single month ever recorded .
¶ Media Malfeasance and Political Accountability
I mean , this is so out of control . It is absolutely staggering , okay . And so for how long did the media ignore this ? Now let me just make this point to you . Let's say the media had taken this seriously two years ago .
Let's say the media regularly had gone down to the border and said what we see at the border here is a real problem with , effectively , people just plowing their way on through . Would we be at the crisis point that we are at right now ? No , we would not . Why ?
Because you would have political leaders that would have to answer to a broad sector of the population that would say this isn't fair to families that you're attracting to this border to slide their way through razor wire to put themselves and their families in danger .
You have people coming in who we don't know who they are , right , right , and it's just time after time . Instead of ignoring the issue , which they did , they could have stepped in and started to do their job , but they didn't Okay , and because they haven't done their job , this has now reached epic crisis proportions .
I mean , you can just see the numbers of people just sitting there . These people have nowhere to go , we don't have enough services for them and it's not compassionate in any way , shape or form . In any way , shape or form .
But the mainstream media has not touched it until now , when they've been forced to okay because they are advocates for one side at least broadly they are they are , and so when you're advocates for one side , you absolutely not only destroy your own side , you destroy the other side too .
And so that's my issue with this , with , effectively , what we're looking at , with what happens with illegal immigration . Now , newsmax then comes out and ABC comes out with a couple of different stories that say now , nearly 1 million undocumented immigrants have access to taxpayer funded health insurance exchanges in 11 different states .
So we wonder why vulnerable people will do anything to come into a country that cannot handle all of this , and that's why Now are they being called out , are they being held to account ?
Is someone calling Gavin Newsom because , yep , he's at the forefront of this too saying what are you doing in California , trying to draw vulnerable people to an uncertain future by offering benefits that you can't even deliver for the people of your own state ? Your homeless problem is out of control .
You can't help people of your own state , and that now Newsom goes in and says , hey , we're going to give these people all the benefits they need . I'm not against benefits for people who are here legally , but you can't continually attract people , which we have proven are overwhelming the country .
It's overwhelming that we can't do it , and so this is the ultimate in cruelty . It's the ultimate in media malfeasance , because they're not addressing the issue , they're not touching it . And now they're touching it and we're going to end up with extreme policies , because it's gotten to a point where things are so bad that there's no way out of it .
Right , and I mean the argument on the other side is people are saying well , you know their goal , which I don't know . How much of this is valid and not , I really don't know .
But obviously the argument on the Republican side is the reason they're letting all these folks in is because they're hoping that they'll be able to vote in favor of any democratic policy and any democratic elected official or you know , get to the polls and vote for , vote for the D , that kind of thing .
At this point . I think the problem is and this is why I want to bring this so three different stories . So this , this story with the media and you say they haven't covered the border until now , when it's out of control and it's overwhelming the whole country , okay , so now we're at that point because they didn't do their job two years ago , okay .
The second example gets us to the defense secretary , lloyd Austin . Lloyd Austin went into intensive care on January 1st . Lloyd Austin is in charge of the largest military in the world and he didn't even tell his president he was in the hospital . This is unbelievable .
I mean , this guy goes in and he's in the hospital for , I think , three days before they even notify the White House . And in fact one of the articles in Politico says the Pentagon did not inform senior officials in the White House National Security Council of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's hospitalization until Thursday .
Remember New Year's Day was Monday , so they didn't get him until Thursday . Okay , three full days after he arrived at Walter Reed the news came as a shock to top staff . You know you think , oh wow , what ? Lloyd's in the hospital and he's not working out of the house . That's what they said . And so he's dealing with whatever medical complications he's got .
But if he's in the ICU , are you kidding me ? And so the point on this is we now live in a world where political leaders don't fear anybody . They don't fear anybody . Lloyd Austin doesn't care . The Defense Department doesn't think they're going to get called out , they don't think the media is going to unload on them . So they do what they want .
So they say you know , we're not going to tell Biden , let him go off to the Caribbean , let him do his thing , we'll let old Lloyd recover at Walter Reed . Meanwhile , don't forget , our Navy is under constant fire right now from the Houthis in the Red Sea . I mean we are basically on the edge of a massive expansion in the Middle East of war .
And yet we have a defense department that thinks it's okay to not mention that . The head of the DOD , or at least the head of you , know really our defense is at a commission and can't do the job . This just tells you they fear no one . They get bigger and stronger .
The media hands them all their power and says go ahead , we're not gonna call you out , you're on , we're on the same team . The media shouldn't have a team . This is why because if the media has a team , they're going to throw in with that team and that team is gonna tell the media to shut up and sit down . And that's where we are .
And I know this is not a fair comparison , but it really draws us in and you're gonna laugh at this . This is just like my interpretation , because I'm obsessed with the show the Crown , right , so I watch the Crown all the time . And the biggest takeaway from the Crown which I know is you know , it's a fictional story that's supposed to be based on truth .
I don't know how much truth is in there and how much is fiction , but the takeaway from that was really , you see , queen Elizabeth as this person that never puts herself before the title , right , so the crown as she refers to it all the time , it doesn't matter what she personally wants or what she personally thinks or what her personal issues are , and I get
that . We're not . You know , we don't have a monarch . I'm not suggesting that we should have that and I get all of that . But the point is is she puts country and the title of what she before her personal situation .
At least , that's the way they portray her in the Crown , okay , so let's just take that away and put it towards our life , right , and here in the United States , I feel like people are not putting their position as what's important . So you have the defense secretary . That's a title , that is a job . It's not about the guy that's serving it .
It should be more about the title and the protection of our country . And so that to me is like it's blaring to me . Just because I'm so obsessed with the Crown , I'm actually rewatching it all and I just I feel like it's a massive difference , you know .
I mean , she gets in a fight with Winston Churchill in one scene where he gets sick and doesn't tell her , and it's like two days , and she levels him right and says this is not okay .
And I don't know if that happened or not , but still , the point is it's you are in a position of power , you owe the country information and especially the leader of the country , which is obviously the president . So anyway .
No , you do . And if you don't feel like you owe anyone anything anymore because there is no incentive for you to stay in line , it's human nature All of a sudden you're gonna be like , no , I'm gonna keep this right here , I got my reasons , you little people don't need to know about it , no sweat .
But the media a long time ago gave away that power and said no , we're not gonna call you out on this , we're not gonna call you out . So if they don't call them out , we all end up losing in a big way . This is why I say it all the time I don't care if you're a Democrat , republican , independent libertarian , whatever .
You should want a media that is hated by everybody . You should want a media that holds everybody accountable equally , just so that they stay in line . But the problem is that only goes in one direction , and one person who found that out is the third part of this little trifecta of stories is Bill Ackman .
Now Bill Ackman is a billionaire , a Harvard alum , and he sort of came to and realized how badly things are going , not only with the media but with DEI , the diversity , equity , inclusion , all that whole deal Basically trying to go out and push this in college campuses and how damaging it is , how devastating it is , and he found it in relation to the war in
Israel that he's a Harvard alum and Harvard was horrendous in the way they've handled this and the way they've said their president couldn't even go in front of Congress and say look , it turns out , you don't get to threaten Israeli students , you don't get to do that . But she didn't say that .
And then it turns out she was somebody who plagiarized at a staggering level and so they tried to protect her and Joe had that in common .
Well , yeah , they do .
But they tried to protect her .
¶ Media Attacks and Political Controversies
Time and time the media comes out and says , nah , this really isn't plagiarism , it's horrendous plagiarism . The lady is off the charts plagiarist . I mean , she has no business , not only not being a running Harvard , but even being a professor there . But whatever , bill Ackman comes out , realizes all of this and is like , oh my gosh , what have I done ?
I supported a university that , basically , is pushing racism and is pushing anti-Israeli policies and anti-Jewish policies , and it has turned into a disaster . So he's come out and gone full bore . Well , what happened ? Well , the empire strikes back , right . So business insider shows up and they do an article on Bill Ackman's wife , neri Aksman .
Okay , she's a accomplished woman to MIT . They now accuse her of going out and plagiarizing . So business insider complete hit piece on Bill Ackman's wife . Who's not said a word about this ? Oh , and , by the way , she happens to be Israeli . But anyway so what does Bill Ackman say about this ?
Well , first of all , he's gone out and he came out and said really , all things considered , business insider crossed the line .
Business insider , you know , took a rule that used to be hey look , if you wanna go after the protagonist in any sort of disagreement , go for it , but what you don't do and this is part of the tweet that you were just seeing there what you don't do is you don't go out and you don't target their families , and that's effectively what has happened here .
So now Bill Ackman is gonna end up going toe to toe with the business insider , with all sorts of different media that are trying to destroy him . Now , good luck with that . Everything we know about Bill Ackman is this guy . It is an absolute machine .
Like , for example , he was competing for his wife's affections before they were married with one , brad Pitt , and he won . He's married to her . Brad ain't .
Oh , so I'm just saying Are we talking like legends of the fall Brad Pitt ? Hey , whatever . Or like older smokes a lot .
I don't know .
Still yeah , Brad Pitt , but he's Brad Pitt , I mean if I'm beating Brad Pitt .
I'm like I'm not like , hey , this isn't legends of the fall Brad Pitt . I'm like this is Brad Pitt period . There's no difference . Yeah .
You know , yeah , no , yeah , exactly . You have a lot of confidence . If you could be beaten up , oh gosh .
Yes , yeah , you're beaten up . Brad Pitt , you got a ton of confidence , but this shows you that when you have a media structure , there's also an attack dog for one side , and this is the problem For the far left . Often it's just that's what the media does for them . They just act like that attack dog . They'll just do it .
Now , it's not that there aren't ever stories that go the other way , but if you look at the volume , this goes one way . And when it goes one way , you see a tipping point . And again a third example of where good media acting as an attack dog for their supposed cause of choice yeah , their agenda Devastating Right .
And you see it all over , Not only in business situations like this . You really see it in politics .
Oh , of course , and we actually have a personal account of that , as you write my recall the fact that when we back up here a little bit and Mark is running for Senate , we all have COVID in 2020 . And I applied , just like many New Mexicans and many Americans , for the PPP plan .
If you were a small business and are of your business owner , I took a $2,500 PPP loan . Right , it was to pay my two part-time contractors , yeah , and so that happened in 2020 . Ok , and so I was the first one to like I mean , not the first one , but as soon as they said , can you write in for the forgiveness ?
I did , to see , because I'm the one that lost some clients over the whole thing . And then you're now fast forward to the governor's race and in 2022 , there is this controversy that Biden's saying , hey , basically , let's pay off all these college loans . Right , I'm going to just have all the taxpayers pay off all these college loans .
You make a tweet about the fact that that shouldn't be on the hands of taxpayers , right , right . And the next thing we see is the Santa Fe New Mexican puts out this headline that says Ron Keddy decries student loan forgiveness , yet wife's federal loan was forgiven .
So I call the editor of this paper and I will have more respect for him than he had for me , and I will not name him here but and said are you crazy , what is this about ? And he's like well , I mean your husband's against federal loan forgiveness or against college loan forgiveness , and yet you got a $2,500 PPP .
And I'm like they're two very different things , very different things , for starters . And then I said , number two , this isn't about Mark , this is about me . Like , what are you dragging me in this ? For Plus my clients ? They listed my clients in this story . This is a horrendous thing for them to do Just a horrific attack .
And I said to him and I still stand by this you have nothing on Mark , so you try to dig up trash on what me Like . I took a $2,500 PPP . If you want to do apples to apples , why would you not talk about my college loan , which took me six years to pay off , and I did it ? That's apples to apples .
That's talking about what Mark was talking about , which was federal loan paying off college debt . I paid off my own college debt and you're bringing in a PPP which was well known before you even took the loan , that it would be forgiven , that it was for business owners during a major crisis situation . They don't even compare .
And then I said second point is why are you talking about me ? I'm the spouse of a candidate . This has nothing to do with anything . And you're bringing in my personal business and my client list , which is also none of the story . And he said well , you're a public figure , I'm a public figure .
I mean , we were doing the podcast then Nobody knew who I was . I was like I'm not a public figure . You're just trying to find trash on Mark and you can't find it , so you go after me on a PPP loan . So I said , if you're going to keep this up too , maybe you should talk to the governor's husband and see what his PPP loan was .
I mean again do the journalistic thing , don't play sides . So from that point on I was like anytime I see anything in the Santa Fe New Mexican , I read it and I have to really make sure is there slant here , is there an agenda ? And it has made me lose trust in that paper .
Well no , and they were definitely doing the bidding of our opponents . Oh how did you even find ?
out about my little .
Meazel $2,500 PPP .
They gave it to him and what's really ironic about this whole thing , too , is I talked to somebody who was very dialed in to where I got my loan and he informed me I have the lowest loan from that bank . There was hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans given to personalized businesses yeah . And I had a $2,500 loan .
They also informed me I was the last loan that was forgiven at that bank , the last loan , and ironically it's just that my husband's also running for US Senate at the same time . So anyway .
Well , yeah , no , and that is . But that's the point , right ? Yeah , so when you give up your power and you decide to be an extension of a line of political thinking , then this is what we get right . So all those examples , they fall into it . Now we're in the middle of politics
¶ Issues With Media Bias and Incompetence
. Fine , I thought what the New Mexican did was incredibly slimy and pathetic . It really was , and the person who wrote the article , daniel Chaconne , actually liked him a lot . I think he does a really good job for them , but that was , to me , a total misstep and way over the line . Way over the line .
But I actually didn't talk to Daniel . I talked to the editor . So just to defend Daniel , I'm not trying to slant him in any way , shape or form .
No , but you wrote the article so , but still at the same time . But that's what we mean . So you take these three stories together and you say this is a real problem for the country . A real problem for the country that we do not have a curious , aggressive , fair media . We don't . We have a biased and incompetent media .
They mix each other back and forth Some of it's biased , some of it's incompetence but the eventual result is powerful people do not feel the need to answer to them anymore .
So , in an effort to boost people that shared their own political beliefs , they've handed over all their power , and by handing over their power , they've taken people in positions of power and made them untouchable . That's where we are . And so you see it , with Lloyd Austin deciding he doesn't have to answer to anybody .
You see it with media organizations becoming attack dogs for political views . And you also see it when you look at the border and , knowing that , hadn't seen that covered for years and now it's out of control . So we've got all these issues and we've got a media that is helpless to stop exactly what they created . So OK , so that was that .
I'm sorry , I had to get a little .
No , I just . That's half the reason we're doing the show . No , no , no , very true .
OK , we do a few more things and then we'll get you out of here , but I got to say a guy we have hammered yeah Is coming around . I'm becoming a fan . OK , let's not go that crazy All right , that is a little crazy , but I'll say this Don't look now .
But John Federman is turning into the most sage , well reasoned senator on the Democratic side in the US Senate . Federman says Harvard unrecognizable to him anymore . Federman went to Harvard , which I did not realize . And he says as an alum of Harvard look , I graduated 25 years ago and of course it's always been a little pink .
Oh , he says , but now I don't recognize it . Okay , so he goes and hits Harvard . Right , and then really , what's amazing about Federman is he has been the most solid supporter of Israel in the Democratic Party in Washington . I mean , his comments on Israel are rock solid . I mean , listen to this . This is interesting , ella .
In the region it's our strongest ally . We have a very special kind of relationship . I don't understand how anybody could vote against Iron Dome or wanna harm Israeli businesses or the nation or anything . I've never , I'll never understand that . Calling them colonizers like where does this come from ? He's exactly right . It's completely ahistorical .
By the way , calling Israeli colonizers when they've been there for thousands of years is ludicrous . Right , he's completely right . He says more and more of my colleagues are calling for a ceasefire . It's so strange . Why aren't you calling for Hamas to surrender . Exactly , if Hamas surrendered and turned over their guns , all the killing would end .
I mean he's dead on . I mean he's been . That's really good , you know . And it's just , you see him say that and you're like man , this is really good . It doesn't stop there , you know .
You got these ridiculous people in Maine and in Colorado just trying to basically , on their own , pull Trump off the ballot , right Saying , because you know , because democracy , so we're not gonna let you vote for someone because democracy what I mean ? What are you talking about ? What does Federman say ? Hamas says what are you doing ?
Yeah , you're not helping anybody . Federman says the efforts to keep Trump off state ballots are incredibly unhelpful . Now , and don't get me wrong , john Federman is by no means a conservative .
Oh no , I mean , it's not close , so I don't want to get down to our shit , and he's not a Trump fan , but I mean it's just a matter of saying , you know , he thinks it's gonna actually build the fire in this port for Trump . I mean it's really yeah , he says .
I just want to go on the record and say how incredibly unhelpful it is for other states removing him from the ballot . Federman said , told the website . I mean exactly Federman's dead on .
I mean dead on Well of course , Like this will get .
I believe this will get thrown on Supreme Court anyway , but I agree , but it is so anti , you know , it is so anti freedom to say we're not gonna let you vote for this guy .
Oh it's ridiculous . I mean it's awful , especially when the guy hasn't been found guilty of anything yet .
Yeah , I don't care , maybe he will or maybe won't . You don't want Republicans doing that to . Democrats , if you're a Democrat .
No , yeah , be careful what you wish for in the situation , so you can come back to bite you right in the butt .
Oh , by the way , just cause we talk about the border a lot , oh , here's Federman on the border . Let's see how he's doing on this one . There's a crisis at the border and I don't know how anybody could pretend that there isn't . Thank you , johnny . I mean this guy , unbelievable , he's on a hot streak , yeah .
I'm sure two weeks from now we're gonna have Federman being crazy , but Him and his hoodie claiming something else .
But still , yeah , I do appreciate the fact he is making some common sense right now . So Unbelievable .
All right , so one other article here that I thought was interesting . It's in Forbes . It talks about US oil production under Joe Biden .
Okay , he's taking credit , I'm sure .
Oh , there's no doubt he's taking credit . There is nobody that has done more .
The guy that on day one said no more drilling , no more drilling .
I'm gonna end fossil fuels .
That's what he says .
Okay , take a look at this article in Forbes . It is really interesting if you get a chance to check it out and in the key number here .
So I just wanna read you this because you're gonna see the administration and they're already trying to take really credit for lower gas prices and the fact that we've never produced more oil and gas more cleanly and efficiently than we do right now . Like we are at the top of our game . We have the best producers in the world .
Okay , and here's what it says as of 2023 , comes to a close , the United States is producing more oil and natural gas than ever before , even in the face of efforts by government planners to force to move to other , greener sources of energy .
In fact , thanks to a major uptick in Perwell recoveries and shale well , the US is now producing more oil per day than any single nation has ever achieved . In fact , this has all been accomplished despite now here's the number this domestic rig count dropping by well over 20% during the year .
We have 20% fewer wells online and we're still producing more oil than we ever have . The outcome becomes even more remarkable when it comes amid a presidential administration whose leaders repeatedly stress their desire to end the industry as we know it , and it shows the industry's extraordinary resilience .
In a piece I wrote in March of 2021 , he noted the history of oil and gas businesses in the United States is that every time the experts all line up to declare it to be dead , they find a way to come roaring back . Okay , and there is no state where that means more than New Mexico . We've got the best oil and gas industry in the world .
We're producing more and more oil and gas with less and less of a footprint , and this is something that is incredibly positive . Now , are we gonna continue to need more energy sources outside ? Yeah , absolutely , absolutely we will . That's why we've gotta be not only the energy state , but the energy country .
And in lots of different ways .
Yes , every way you can , but affordable oil and gas means low income families can afford to pay their bills period .
And so the last point that was made in Ellis Clip 31 , the last point that was made by the head of the oil and gas administration and it's an interesting quote and I think it's an aggressive quote in one that I think you can really appreciate , and I will say it's from Tim Stewart's , from the US Oil and Gas Association .
He said American people should know the truth , which is this the Biden administration is absolutely nothing to do with record production . Stewart says it happened in spite of them , but it just shows you what energy means and where we are as a country .
And definitely something we're gonna be keep talking about because it obviously impacts New Mexico so much in so many different ways , so we'll continue to talk about that .
Okay .
At Nozium . Now let's just end on a couple really quick funny videos .
Okay , what do you ? What do you have for me ?
So I find you know I love all these , like I love singing videos . I think they're really fun , especially when they're really believing in themselves .
Yes .
This lady with her Julie McCoy outfit . If you can't watch us and you're just listening , I think it'll do its I- .
And we should tell you the song is is it Christopher Cross ? It ?
is .
Okay , it's if you get caught between the moon and New York city .
Is that right ? Yeah , and I want you to feel that's Arthur's theme . I think it is Arthur's theme . Yeah , it's the Arthur's theme . Yeah , and if you are watching , please notice the drummer behind her . He couldn't be more bored .
Okay , here we go . It's fantastic .
Okay , the but when you get caught between the moon and New York city . I mean , I love the drummer . He's like , oh my gosh , somebody get me out of here now , yeah , but it's true , and the Julie McCoy outfit is on . It's on point , really . I love it .
When the moon and New York city this more headline , though , says when extreme confidence needs an extreme lack of talent , I mean , the lady can sing . The best that you can do Is falling . If you get caught between the moon and New York city .
I like her voice a little bit .
I'm not gonna lie . Okay , now you found the last video , because this is up your alley it has to do . If it's not a moose , it's a bear .
Right . So for those of you who have ever been to Lake Tahoe , the black bear population Lake Tahoe is significant and most of the black bears in Tahoe are huge . And so there's a guy there who basically goes in his job as to when these black bears sort of overstep , end up going to someone's home too much , whatever , he gets them out .
Well , he goes in and he finds out there's a black bear he's not sure which one yet , because he knows them basically because they're a lot of them are tagged . It's in the crawl space of a home . So he's gonna go in with a paintball gun and have it out with a bear .
And here it is .
it's crawling in right here A little bit of a plumber situation working there , but here we go . Here comes the paintball gun . There it is , paintball gun .
Oh boy , Holy cow , he's . Huge .
That thing is huge .
I would not crawl into the crawl space with knowing that that bear is in there . Oh my gosh , there's just no way and there's only one way out . So he must have like .
I don't know how he did all that Else , can you roll that again ? You don't have to roll the whole thing just just as it comes back out again . That thing is massive .
Oh , there's no way . I went camping in Lake Tahoe right after I graduated college and it was in the summer , but we went to go get some supplies , came back and there was a note from the forest ranger that said hey , you've got bears in this campsite . You guys have to get out of here right now and so we don't mess with them .
I wasn't out there with a paintball gun . I'm like let's load it up and get to a hotel .
Yes , no doubt .
So anyway , well , it's good to be back . Hopefully by Thursday we sound better . I don't know , I'm playing hurt again .
And .
I'm just saying like I didn't cancel the show today , mark , I rallied and I'm here .
I feel like I should get props for that . Well , you should . You do deserve props for that . I think there's a little difference in the level of what we're suffering from , but whatever .
Right , you had man flu and I had chick flu . It's different , ok . Ok , yeah , that's right .
I forgot . I forgot the chick flu . Chick's just doing everything they need Get through everything they can , because , guys , anything that's to a guy he's down for the count man flu .
It's kind of true and , ladies out there , I know you'll agree with me on this one . So , anyway , please have a great week , yeah absolutely have a great weekend .
