Thanksgiving Cooking and Dolly Parton's Performance

Speaker 1

You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right . Well , I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right . There's only an up or down . This is the no Doubt About it . Podcast .

Speaker 2

No doubt about it .

Speaker 1

And now your hosts , Kristy and Mark Runcetti .

Speaker 2

One of us has been vacationing , the other is Kristy . Unbelievable you are , the work put in by you over the past week .

Speaker 3

Cooking you mean ? Yes , yeah , it's like a , it's my marathon . I got to be honest my friend , actually my friend Shana , from Denver . She texted me and she said did your family make it out ? And I said , yeah , they're all here , I'm really excited . And she goes well , this is your family's Super Bowl .

And I was like , you're dang right , it is because it's our cooking Super Bowl , for sure .

Speaker 2

I've never seen anything like it , and it's like you're the ground crew at an airport and you were trying to land four planes at once .

Speaker 3

And the timing things it's . It's like that for anybody who makes Thanksgiving dinner .

Speaker 2

You're in there and it's like you know you got it . Right , and you got a . You got like a cocktail in one hand and a gravy boat in the other and you're just like all right , yeah , bring it in , bring in the stuffing . Let's bring in the stuffing real quick . Hold up the stuffing real fast , Go ahead and get the turkey going .

Turkey , turkey , out of the oven . Gonna , let the turkey cool . Let's go to the sweet potatoes right now . Go ahead and add the brown sugar to the sweet potatoes and move on over and let's get to make sure we get those beans all cleaned up .

Get those Brussels sprouts back in the oven it could take them a little bit longer to cook here and make sure , of course , the mashed potatoes go . Okay , keep those things set , set , set , set , set , set , set to go . And , by the way , what are we drinking for this thing ? And does anybody want a salad ? I mean , you're just like what the heck ?

I don't know how you did it .

Speaker 3

I really am amazed . No thanks , guy , I appreciate it . No , it was fun . It's always fun . I like I it's tiring . I'm always really tired by the end of this weekend , but but I do love it . I think it's great it is . I tried all new recipes . I mean , even my turkey recipe was totally different .

Speaker 2

So Christy , in the turkey , she sets this thing out a solid four days before he ate it , and so we're all thinking , like this is going to be , we are going to die of salmonella . I don't even know if you can get salmonella from turkey , but I mean or one of two things is going to happen .

Speaker 3

I put it in the refrigerator for days .

Speaker 2

Okay . So we're either going to eat it's going to be turkey jerky by the time we get to it or this thing is going to be so overtaken with bacteria that we're not going to get an hour after dinner before everybody is heading to the bathroom . But I will say you did an incredible job .

Speaker 3

It was delicious . Thanks , guy , it was a new brine .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I just you take it out of the double brine . Do you double brine ? What'd you do with this thing ?

Speaker 3

I always double brine , but I it was a different brine . This time I did a dry brine versus a wet a wet brine .

Speaker 2

Okay .

Speaker 3

When I soak it all in the pot for two or three days . Yeah , anyway , I just took it out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator four days in advance , which is what you're supposed to do , fella .

Speaker 2

By the time that bird went in the oven , it looked like it had walked through the Sahara desert .

Speaker 3

Listen , I agree that bird was just like skin and it was .

Speaker 2

It just looked like it had . Its skin was three sizes too big for it and , as you put it in , I'm like we're in real trouble here . I'm telling my brother in law Jerry , I'm like we're in trouble here . I mean , this thing is going to , we're going to eat this thing . We're going to go get a couple gallons of water .

There's no way we're going to suck this thing down .

Speaker 3

You guys were concerned because I normally have it in a wet brine . It comes out and it's all wet .

Speaker 2

Oh , it looks like it's , you know , right out of a magazine .

Speaker 3

Right , this one did not . It did not go in the oven very pretty , but it tasted really good . So that was good .

Speaker 2

Oh , no , it tasted fantastic , and you even tried to baste it and you couldn't baste it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , there wasn't enough liquid . There was no liquid .

Speaker 2

I'm like we're dead . I mean , I'm like we're half you're . You're working so hard that I didn't have the heart to be like , hey , the bird is going to be a disaster .

Speaker 3

Yeah , but I was thinking about what meat do I have that's currently defrosted , that I could like whip up some hamburgers .

Speaker 2

So you , so you had backup meat .

Speaker 3

I didn't , though Everything was still rock , frozen hard , so I didn't . I was just thinking about that . I figured oh , who cares , I have like 115 sides . Yeah , you really did . And we had a whole appetizer bar .

Speaker 2

You did great .

Speaker 3

So whatever .

Speaker 2

Unbelievable .

Speaker 3

No , it's fine , I love it , it's . I love hosting things . I love hosting Thanksgiving .

Speaker 2

So yeah , it was incredible , you guys and you did a thousand million dishes and , along with my family , well yeah , you gotta stay ahead of the dishes If you think you can let all these dishes get done once you know it's crazy .

Speaker 3

Thank God I had my brother-in-law there , jerry , to be washing the dishes , because you were zoned in on the Cowboys game and they we're awesome .

Speaker 2

Yeah , they were .

Speaker 3

Which is always like a sigh of relief for me on Thanksgiving because if they , lose Mark is in the worst mood .

Speaker 2

I've gotten over that . I don't do that anymore . Oh , but I will say this yes , he does . The first half was a little closer than I wanted , but then something happened at the end of the first half which changed everything .

Speaker 3

Yeah , Dolly came out on stage Unbelievable . I mean , I love Dolly Parton . Everybody that kind of knows me knows that I love Dolly . She's 77 years old . She comes out in a Dallas cowboy cheerleading style uniform .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 3

She's rocking all her hits . The other cheerleaders are dancing with her . I mean , I'm sorry If I look like I don't even look like that at 50 , let alone 77 .

Speaker 2

I mean it really . It was one of those things you're watching and you're not sure exactly how to react . Because she comes out . You're like , is she really wearing that outfit ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , and then you're like my goodness like she could do the house I didn't have one like I'm sorry , but this is getting probably TMI for everybody but women's skin on there , like up here their déclaté gets very .

Speaker 2

What's it called ?

Speaker 3

Declaté Really yeah , that's called the déclaté . Yeah , it's like your neck and your the skin on your chest .

Speaker 2

What do you what ? Why do they call it that ? Cause you put like a necklace there so you're going to déclaté that sucker up .

Speaker 3

I don't know why it sounds like some French word .

Speaker 2

I don't know it does . I love it .

Speaker 3

I didn't , I didn't name it that mark . It was actually that . That's the name .

Speaker 2

Well , thank you , I didn't think everybody's like . Well , yes , christie Rocktetti named it the déclaté in 1984 .

Speaker 3

So anyway , so anyway that , as you get older , gets thinner . It's seen a lot of suns as it gets you know freckly and all that .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 3

Dolly's déclaté yeah is like that of like a 15 year old kid , like woman .

Speaker 2

Well , and did she have like take a look at the picture ? Did she have ? Did she have maybe some sort of cloth there , was it like ?

Speaker 3

a Not on top , on bottom , I think she had one on top too , no , I don't think so , I do I do , I think she did .

Speaker 2

I'm telling you , I think she did , I'm telling you , there's already wrinkle on that body .

Speaker 1

It's unbelievable .

Speaker 3

It's impressing . Yeah , it's impressing . Yes , it is .

Speaker 2

I'm sorry , I'm very impressed , no see she does , she has a , she has like a sheer top .

Speaker 1

No only on her stomach . You can see there's twinkling .

Speaker 2

See the twinkling on her stomach .

Speaker 3

That's on her stomach . Go up , go up further to her déclaté . This is a ridiculous conversation . Look at the déclaté . I promise you it was not on the top .

Speaker 2

She decorated the déclaté . Okay , I'm just telling you the right way . Now she did .

Speaker 3

Moving on , the other big thing that happened here is I . I took my sister and my niece Ashley out for us like to do some flea marketing shopping , that's what we do on Black Friday . We go and hit all the local antique and flea markets and I said , listen , we've had the same tree since we got married . It's been . It's pretty old kind of hack .

It's pretty hazardy looking tree and every year I'm like . I'm tired guy . Okay , I'm making up words . Okay , yeah , no , you are .

Speaker 2

You're like multiple words now I don't even know where you're going with this .

Speaker 3

It's very hazardy . It's late in the day , right , I've been decorating for Christmas all day .

Speaker 2

Yeah , what do you think ?

Speaker 3

There's like some rabid squirrel , that's hiding in the , in the , in the tree

Christmas Tree Shopping and Protests

.

Speaker 2

Okay .

Speaker 3

Our other tree . All three of you . I've been trying to bring that thing back to life . Every year you guys are like it is time to cash in this tree . Yeah , like we got branches that are missing . Now Some of the lights work , some don't . It is pretty bad . It's lived a good life .

Speaker 2

It has .

Speaker 3

Yeah , and so I said , okay , I saw a deal on a tree at home depot and it's a bigger tree than what we had . It's taller , and so we had a seven foot a seven and a half foot tree and I said , this one's nine feet , do you think it's going to fit ? Yeah , you said yes , we have 10 foot ceilings .

Yeah , so I sent you out to investigate , because you never buy a tree online . If you , if you're going to buy a fake tree , it better look real .

Speaker 2

Yeah , no , that's a good call . Otherwise I was thinking about just going full flocking , like I looked at some of the flocking and I you ever seen I mean that's I mean boy . They flocked tree now .

Speaker 3

It reminds me of my family's from Texas and we originally and my mom said this is before I was born they always had a flock tree because it was very big . To do in Houston is to have this flock tree practice . It's a state that has no snow , so you flock your fake Christmas tree . I guess , I don't know .

Speaker 2

But anyway no .

Speaker 3

I wanted to look real . Like I wanted to look real . I don't need fake pink pine cones on it .

Speaker 2

I don't need that madness Okay .

Speaker 3

But I want it to look full and don't want to look like plastic . So I send you in a new recon with my brother in law , Jerry , and you guys . I have to say you went to a lot of places for me .

Speaker 2

Worked it around .

Speaker 3

Yeah , you went to like lows . I started at lows .

Speaker 2

Yeah , and the selection of those . I gotta be honest , I went right out of the shoot , the lows and the sale .

Speaker 3

Yeah .

Speaker 2

And those pretty good , pretty good selection there and in a couple , but you need to start climbing up pretty fast , oh , they can go crazy , which is why I always talk myself out of buying one , even on sale , after Christmas .

Speaker 3

Who's got money after Christmas ? By the way , when everything goes on wicked sale , I'm like the most broke I ever am is right after Christmas , yeah .

Speaker 2

Fair enough . Yeah , it's good point , cause the tree I bought probably be , you know , $7 after Christmas . But so we go there check it out . I see a couple that are intriguing , you know . But . But but you know it's like anything the first place you go you're like , well , I get this , and then all of a sudden we're going to end up somewhere else .

I'm going to wish I got that .

Speaker 3

Right . So then we told you , go to Home Depot , because that's why I saw the tree .

Speaker 2

And that was stop . Number two was the Home Depot , not . I didn't . I didn't see anything there that was going to get the job done .

Speaker 3

Okay .

Speaker 2

You know , I saw your value , I saw you where you went with the value .

Speaker 3

Right .

Speaker 2

And uh , yeah , it just didn't happen and so , and then we get to Costco .

Speaker 3

No , oh , costco Okay .

Speaker 2

I went right across the street to Costco , which I love . Costco , it's the greatest place ever . But you know , we're in the . We're in the , we're in the six to eight bill range . Yeah , no you know and it's like , yeah , it's , you know it's not going to happen .

Speaker 3

No , and so it's not going to happen .

Speaker 2

So yeah , and so then , of course .

Speaker 3

Then I I told more than my first car .

Speaker 2

I mean , I'm not spending more than my first car last a long time , but the first car , I'll tell you that Cause you got into seven accidents before the age of 18 .

Speaker 3

Yeah , and I had a car for four years , the first car that last me for 125,000 miles on it . When I got it yeah , it was a Subaru brat .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 3

I sold . I put another 150,000 , 50,000 miles on it and I sold it four years later . Thank you , okay so anyway , I got my value out of my Subaru brat .

Speaker 2

I'm never getting that time back where you just explained that All right , so , so then we cost goes to expensive . Then I took the step of going for husband of the year because I , you know , after the dinner you had made the night before , I just felt like the least I could do is is venture into Hobby Lobby to see what they had .

Speaker 3

I know which I cannot , but when you called me and you said I'm at Hobby Lobby , I about fainted . I was like what happened ? Did you black out ? Do you know where you are ? I don't know what happened .

Speaker 2

I was walking in and all of a sudden I'm in housewares and whatever else is going on .

They've got so much decor it's all decor that you know , gather signs everywhere and I was like , oh so then I go look at these trees and all of a sudden you start , all of a sudden they break out the Slim Jim tree , which , if you don't think about it , you get tricked into a Slim Jim tree . You got a problem .

Speaker 3

It's going to be too tiny .

Speaker 2

Oh yeah , it's all thin . You know it's tall and in thin and you're like , wait a minute , this could be kind of cool , but then again maybe not . So I get you on the FaceTime situation and you're like , well , you just make the call , and so then we go to a second lows and end up making the call right . And then we figured An unfortunate detail out .

Speaker 3

Yeah , the tree is too tall for For our house . Yes , so here's the tree . He's not bad , it's just we're gonna have to clip it now .

Speaker 2

We're gonna trim a fake tree which ?

Speaker 3

is always tricky , is a new one .

Speaker 2

And then one Ever get the lights that I do not like . I don't like .

Speaker 3

I don't like we were literally having a conversation . I was having a conversation with my niece , as you're buying the tree . Yeah , she's telling me this horror story about how her neighbor has a tree that changes from white lights to colored lights , over and over and over . It drives her crazy . This tree that you bought , that's what it does .

Speaker 2

Yeah , well , it does , if you said it that way . All white too . So yeah yeah , we're just gonna clip the top of it . Yeah , I try to get a little tree topper for it . But I but you know , here's the thing . It's like a bad haircut . Right , you start clipping and and I don't know how it's gonna go .

Speaker 3

Well , I , I don't know , I don't know , maybe we just don't put a topper on it and we just call it a day .

Speaker 2

Okay , but you know , yeah , it is a little weird though , if you look at the top of that video it . It really does hit the ceiling , so I'm gonna clip it off . It's okay . No , I'm gonna . I'm gonna handle it , just ever ever , ever put those colored lights on , I'm gonna do it ever again .

Speaker 3

Okay . Okay , the other big kind of not as fun news this weekend I took my family , after we did the flea markets and the antique stores , we ended up at Uptown and this was on Friday . Yeah , and as we're coming into Uptown there's definitely a police presence going on . There's like four cop cars or lights are on . I called you .

I was like I don't know if you know what's going on , but like we're going into Uptown now and our plan was to meet up with you later , and so we start shopping and I'm in the first store , I go into altered state and the ladies there are really nice . But they said , yeah , it's just been kind of a crazy day .

We've been having to Shelter in place off and on since this morning . And I said why ? And they said , well , there's this big Palestinian , pro-palestinian protests going on and they keep walking by the stores and so we've been told that there's active threats on the stores .

So we're going in to shut down and we turn off the lights and all this stuff and I'm like , oh , that sounds awful . And then we walk on , go to a couple more stores . Well , sure enough , about 30 minutes later we're in a store and it goes into shelter in place . They lock us in there , they turn off the lights and I'm like so what is this ?

The protesters , is this something different like ? And they , she said Well , we've been closing off and on all day for protesters .

Concerns About Civil Unrest and Protests

But our understanding is this is there was shots fired at the mall which is across , not very far from us .

Speaker 2

Yeah , many of you probably saw the video .

Speaker 3

Yeah , just people just kind of . Trying to like get themselves out of there and at the time we didn't know exactly what was going on in uptown . We were kind of confused on that . But , as you see , like people start kind of running . I have a friend I saw her post , she was there .

I guess her daughter got knocked over in the process and like these really from people running out . This isn't even the video that I was talking about . The video I saw people were like pushing out of the container stores .

What I saw , but anyway , so yeah , there was high activity and then trying to get out of uptown afterwards was insane and I'm thinking what is happening like it was just I know it's the most , it's the busiest shopping day , but it felt like chaos .

Speaker 2

Well , right , and that's what I , that's what I think is starting to become concerning and and obviously , with everything that happened in the summer of 2020 , and and Albuquerque has not seen like some other , and we have people that listen from across country , that some .

So , yeah , minneapolis is , you know , prime example of some horrendous , you know , people just going off the rails , and recently in Philly , it happened in places like that . We haven't seen as much that . It happened a little bit downtown To some degree .

Not recently , though , and I , and what worried me Friday was this thought process that are we now entering into a time when it's like here we go more protests , you know , whatever they're gonna be , whatever whatever the issue happens to be , get ready to lock down , get ready to lock down ?

And it reminded me back a little bit To when we talked to Greg Zanetti about you know what's what's going on here in an economic sense , and we talked about Israel and all sorts of different things , and one of the things you know that he kept bringing up was that you know , as we continue to see issues , will we see more and more civil unrest , and I don't

think we're at that point yet , but it is concerning . I think that , and are we gonna get to a point where it's gonna be a normal thing to be like , yeah , we're shutting down again , here comes that , here comes . Yeah whatever the protest is , yeah , what I mean .

Speaker 3

I talked to a lady that I'm friends with who works at one of the stores . The following day I ran into her at a birthday party and I said so how was it yesterday ? And she said it was just crazy because it was a lot of shutting down and then reopening back up and then shutting down and opening back up just for mere safety for people and the in the .

The cops seem to be all over this and they were giving warnings to all the retailers and saying you need to close your doors If you see any of the protesters walking by .

Speaker 2

We don't know if they're gonna be violent or not , but don't take any risks with your customers or your employees and we definitely haven't seen that here and I want to be clear on that that we've definitely seen some violence , though , especially over the Palestinian issue , there have been some , some violent , you know things that have devolved into violence .

Oh , absolutely we have not seen that right , thankfully , but all right . So a few things here . First off , we do have some viewer comments .

Speaker 3

Viewer comments , yeah and we , you know , we've even had some , um , even really good emails over the the last week , yeah , with people asking more questions and just giving us some information and just like we're playing things , and they were all very nice . So thank you so much . That's another way you can get in touch with us .

If you want to it's info at no doubt about it , podcast comm . Or you can go on to our YouTube channel . If you're not there right now , you're listening on a podcast . You can put a comment there if you want , or you can write a comment on our podcast .

Speaker 2

Yeah , make sure you , you make sure you subscribe on YouTube and on . Apple podcast right in review us . We would really appreciate it . Yeah , it's huge , oh , but only if you have good things to say . Yeah , if you're gonna say whatever you want , but just rate us Well trust me , people say whatever they want and we're fine , we're all good .

Speaker 3

And then I've had some comments coming back to us in response to the negative comments of people like just hey , just so you know , blah , blah , blah , blah , like you know , no , it's good . It's gonna be , great , whatever which is great but this is the first one . This was around our Trump show , okay .

But it said this guy just say John case , a good show , but I have to say it's a bit on the long side .

Speaker 2

John , I can't get her stuff talking . I don't know calm down , john .

Speaker 3

It's an hour long podcast .

Speaker 2

Sometimes it's 40 today's gonna be shorter actually .

Speaker 3

Yes , oh , you know . Yeah , pour yourself an extra cup of coffee , you'll be fine . Most podcasts , by the way , that I listen to over an hour , just so you know like John's just Trim the fat is all he's saying .

Speaker 2

He's like get some stuff in there , get some fluff that you don't need .

Speaker 3

You know what you do in a podcast what can you do ? You in a podcast platform . John , here's a little fresh tip for you . You can speed our voices up . So if you're on a , if you're trying to hurry , you can set us to like a 1.7 and we'll be talking like this oh my gosh , oh my gosh , what do you ?

Speaker 2

think there's no doubt , john , that's gonna drive you crazy . Please don't do that .

Speaker 3

We'll try to keep it under an hour , john . Okay , everybody happy that way , here we go . This was the humble King said . I appreciate the passion for DeSantis . I do believe he is the future , but this is Trump's election in 24 . We need to stop at division and back him already .

Speaker 2

Okay , no , I can respect that . I can absolutely respect that . I think that there's the like that thought process makes a lot of sense to me .

Speaker 3

Okay , well , I still think it's giving Nikki Haley , but whatever , we're gonna go .

Speaker 2

I know I understand what you're saying , but but I get the the point too , that that you know . You look at where Trump is and and you say , oh my gosh , you know , with the way things are going , you know the infighting within the , within a primary , can be tough , but again , whoever wins will get over that right ?

Speaker 3

I hope so . Yeah , okay . And then Helen Gonzalez said love your comments on Trump . My thoughts on him are pretty much the exact same , so okay that's kind of when you went off about how he's being a human and yeah , you know whatever sides there's both sides . The guy yeah

Opinions on Trump and the Economy

. Chris Dawson says agree with you , mark . He is only human . I love him and I'm mad at him often in the same day . No candidate is perfect . Yes . That is actually so true . No , I agree even in like a statewide election , like you're not gonna find somebody who has every single thing is in line with everything you say .

Even one of the guys that wrote in that was really nice to me and it wrote us an email . He even said I don't agree with you guys on every single thing you say , but I like listening to what you have to say . I totally agree with that . That's totally . That's fine , that's great .

Actually , I mean , you shouldn't have to listen to an echo chamber all the time . Yeah , it's nice to hear other people's opinions on things , and I listened to other people on podcasts that I don't necessarily agree with , but I want to hear what they have to say on something . So , anyway , that was good .

So , speaking of Trump , you know he was pretty popular on the football field .

Speaker 2

No , I think what they've done a really good job of is putting him in positions . Now , eva , let's bring up the audio on this . What you hear , this is pretty impressive .

Speaker 3

He's at the South Carolina football game right .

Speaker 2

Yeah , he's at South Carolina football game , Nikki Hilli's home state . I don't think that is by accident right . But it was a pretty . It was pretty impressive and in fact , at the end of this clip you won't quite hear it here this guy's fired up in his MAGA hat .

But what you won't hear it here is at the end they are start chanting USA and they've done a good job of getting him an MMA events , getting him events like football games . That's his crowd right those are the people he asked to have fired up , and and it was impressive , it was . You know , you hear everybody , everybody going nuts .

And it's interesting too , because , as you look at , trump supporters and people that you know are saying you know , we have to have Trump .

One thing that's bolstering them is what's happening with Biden's numbers , which continue to absolutely tank , and so when those numbers start to tank , two things are going on they're , they've , they've got to be figuring out how to get rid of them .

There's no doubt they are , but the mainstream media , especially the Washington Post , is doing everything that they can to prop him up .

Speaker 3

And so here's Physically speaking and figuratively . They have him like on a like a pulley thing to stand him up .

Speaker 2

Okay , so here's . Here's a non-physical means to prop him up Inflation is down , but listen to . This is so arrogant the way these guys operate . The headline is inflation is down , but gripes still going viral .

Speaker 1

Talking about the economy .

Speaker 2

Groceries that you can't afford . Gasoline , that's too expensive . Natural gas and and and home heating oil or whatever you use to to heat your house .

Speaker 3

Eating out at a restaurant Everything .

Speaker 2

Everything's incredibly expensive and in this whole thought process , like , oh , you're griping the economy's actually really good . Yeah we're solid . It's just , it's ridiculous . And the subhead is Democrats fear that social media exaggerates economic issues . No , it doesn't . It doesn't exaggerate economic issues .

Washington Post , in fact , when somebody goes to the grocery store and they got to put stuff back because they can't afford it , because it's 20% more than it was in 2020 . People remember that .

So when Trump goes to a football game and they all start screaming USA , usa , part of what they're remembering is the fact that they could afford a lot more under Trump than they could under Biden .

And so , essentially , what we're going to get to at the end of the day is Biden will continue to tank , and all the headlines in the world like this one , too , from the Washington Post says the economy is booming , oh , okay , but inflation continues to sour Americans . We're the problem . We're the problem . Bidenomics is perfect . The problem is you , brother .

You got a problem . It's you and your family that need things to live on and to eat and to eat your home and to run your car , and so the quotes from this story are bonkers , because they're completely in opposition to each other .

Speaker 3

Yeah , this person says rising prices are just as high as the US and so they're largely to blame .

Inflation's Impact on Household Finances

New data coming out Tuesday is expected to show that inflation once again lessened its grip on households in October , extending a year long trend .

That comes on top of a string of eye popping data points Strong economic growth , unemployment at long time lows , wages finally outpacing inflation , all leaving Americans with more money in their bank accounts than they've had in years .

Speaker 2

So , just so you know that quote , and if you can throw it back up for one second , that quote that you just read , christy , they actually underlined their bank accounts more money in their bank accounts than they've had in years . Okay , remember that quote because I decided to go look to see if it was actually true . But we'll get to that in just a second .

And so the second quote . So that's one quote from the Washington Post story . Then here is the second quote .

Speaker 3

And it says for many voters . The economy's recent growth comes alongside other realities such as high inflation , rising interest rates that have made loans more costly and dwindling savings . Importantly , home prices are at an all time high and housing affordability is near a record low and is also influencing people's feelings about their finances .

Speaker 2

Okay . So they just said in that quote and sorry , I thought we're going to up one more time so in that quote they say high inflation , rising interest rates have made loans more costly and dwindling savings . Wait a minute . They just said we've got more money in our bank accounts than we've ever had . And so this gets to my point .

The Biden is trying to pull off something that is absolutely impossible , and what I mean by that is he's trying to pull off the economy's great pay . No attention to your personal circumstances . That can't work . It's never worked and it won't start now . And if you look at the actual numbers , take a look here and you can see what's happening with the prices .

Okay , these are personal savings . Okay , see those huge spikes . That's during COVID . Okay , what's happened to personal savings since it's curated ? Personal savings has cratered . So this whole thought process from the Washington Post that people have more money than they've ever had in their bank accounts . It's not true . The numbers aren't true .

That may have been true in 2020 . It is long since not been true . And not only that . Default rates on cars Okay , that's the one of the first things to look for . Okay , and what's happening with default rates on cars Higher than they've ever been , even since 2008 .

You're starting to see those default rates climb precipitously and the chart that we're showing now , if you happen to watch it on YouTube , basically the highest numbers we've ever seen were during the Great Recession , which makes sense , right .

And then you see things kind of stay fairly steady , they dip out of the Great Recession , they stay fairly steady and then shh there , they go off the charts . So what Joe Biden is relying on is for you to say Christy , you're crazy , this economy is killing it . And you're just wrong .

And so Team Biden has gone out on the economy over the weekend and said basically nothing to see here . In fact , we got it better than Trump did .

Speaker 3

Well , I mean Harry says the biggest turkey on Thanksgiving was in the White House . President Biden's campaign released a guide for responding to crazy maga nonsense for the holidays , which served up a hot platter of its own nonsense . First on the list was the economy , and was better during Trump , which Team Biden claims is wrong Protesting .

Inflation is the lowest it's been in two years . The economy is growing and unemployment has been under 4% for the longest stretch on record . Just look at your Thanksgiving cost compared to last year . Yeah , aim into that .

Speaker 2

To last , just last year .

Speaker 3

Last year , so they're down slightly from last year .

Speaker 2

Is that the deal ? Is that what they're bragging about ?

Speaker 3

No , mine is not , but they're saying it was . Gas prices are cheaper . Turkey's cheaper ? No , it's not . Eggs are cheaper no , they're not . The last thing Democrats should be reminding anyone about is food and gas prices . Right , I mean , it's just the trick here is comparing prices to last year and inflation to two years ago . That is , on Biden's watch .

As a refresher , the average cost for a gallon of gas was $219 in 2020 . It's a whopping $3.27 in 2023 .

Speaker 2

Yeah , and across the board we're roughly 25% higher than we were when he took office and you know .

Speaker 3

So I post this thing because our local statewide dem party okay , the Democratic state party they tweeted out some nonsense about Biden's , you know , lowering inflation lower than lowest inflation you've ever seen . La , la , la la . A bunch of garbage , right . So I retweeted and saying who is buying this crap anymore ? I actually said crap .

I know it's kind of a bad word , but I said it and I was just curious Try to watch the language .

Speaker 2

Go ahead .

Speaker 3

I will try to watch my language you can bleep that out if you want to . That's right . And so I was just like I cannot stand the lying side of things anymore . I'm just like just run on what you think you've done . Well , it's not the economy . If you think the economy is going well , it's not . So a couple of people are fighting back with me .

They're like well , christy , inflation is actually going down . Are you arguing that inflation is not going down ? Are you arguing that there's not ? You know , people are still going to balloon Fiesta and baseball games and the consumers are still spending a lot of money and blah , blah , blah , blah . And I'm sitting going .

Okay , there's a lot of , there's a lot of garbage coming at me . So I try to take on some of the little fights . I didn't take them all on because I was like whatever , but I'm like okay . So let's just say , for you know sake of argument , our dog food , which we've talked about , was $11 a box at this time last year .

Speaker 2

It's now two years ago , but yeah , sorry .

Speaker 3

It's gone up to . It went up to $18 a box .

Speaker 2

Okay , yeah , 17 , 18 , absolutely .

Speaker 3

Okay now . It continued to rise across the time . Now it's plateaued . Now it has plateaued at $18 a box , so it's still $18 a box . It hasn't dropped down to $1750 or $17 yet .

Speaker 2

Or 14 or 12 .

Speaker 3

Or where it started . So if you're going to say that because something has tapped out and it hasn't risen again in the last six months , that means inflation is going down . That's the weakest argument I've ever heard in my life . So no , I don't think inflation has gone down to an extent that it has any sort of help for the American family at all .

I'm like , my grocery bill is still really high . We don't eat out very much anymore because restaurant prices have to go up to keep the cost , because the cost of the foods are so high . All of it has gone up . I don't know how anybody is .

And then as far as the person's saying well , the isotope games are sold out and balloon fiesta was packed , and so people really aren't feeling this at all , Christy , Like I'm crazy Again , like you're trying to make me feel crazy .

Speaker 2

No , it's an impossible political trick .

Speaker 3

And I'm saying this . It's like okay , people notoriously spend more than they make . They overspend , they always have . The Americans are famous for it . What I would like to see is how many people's credit card debt has increased in the last two years . Do you carry more debt on your credit cards now than you did two years ago ?

Speaker 2

There's no doubt . And then the numbers are very clear .

Speaker 3

And so you may be trying to keep up with the way you used to spend two years ago or three years ago , but it's costing you more money to do the same things that you did two or three years ago . That's to me , that's not any proof that inflation's going down .

Speaker 2

You know , I wasn't sure what you're gonna have in this episode . You brought the juice right there . That was your 97 mile per hour festival . That was that's it . That was it .

Speaker 3

Oh , I can go much faster than that guy . We'll see .

Speaker 2

we'll see what happens , but I think it's a really good it's a great analogy on the dog food , because it's absolutely true .

Speaker 3

Well , and I'm with somebody who always watches because we eat gluten-free bread , right , and it's like I can tell you how much it cost two years ago , three years ago . I can tell you now it is $10 a loaf and I'll tell you I would have never started eating gluten-free bread if it started at $10 a loaf .

Speaker 2

Oh , and I'm sucking down the heels on that whole deal . You're like eat the heels for every last piece of that thing .

Speaker 3

I don't let anybody in the family throw anything away . They think I'm crazy because they're not going to the grocery store like I am . And I'm like no , no , no , no . That little heel on that piece of bread cost $2 , you better eat it .

Speaker 2

Eat it now . Eat it .

Speaker 3

Not throwing that away .

Speaker 2

Okay , couple things too . Over this past weekend , israel and Hamas reached a deal to release hostages , so we wanted to touch on this because it is . It's disturbing in some ways . So I want to start with a quote from the Prime Minister of Ireland , where Ireland has got some major league unrest going on for a variety of reasons .

And Connor McGregor , the MMA fighter who's endlessly entertaining usually just an MMA Y and just him talking but then he got in the middle of a political battle . So here's what the prime . So there was one person from Ireland released . They were held captive by Hamas for 50 days . Okay , it's a little girl .

And here's what the Prime Minister of Ireland said about this release . He said this is a day of enormous joy and relief for Emily Hand and her family . An innocent child who was lost has now been found and returned , and we breathe a massive sigh of relief . Our prayers have been answered .

That was such a ridiculous tweet , or whatever you want to call it an X that they put a community note at the bottom of it , and the community note at the bottom of it was Emily Hand was not lost , she was kidnapped . Thank God for Elon Musk and getting wedding leaders out the context .

Yeah , twitter , not that Elon's doing this , but you know what I mean People going and correcting this clown who goes and says and tries to just minimize everything that Hamas has done . And so this community note on the tweet says no , she wasn't lost , she was kidnapped and taken hostage by Hamas . Kidnapping is against the law . Being lost is not .

That was their community note . I mean just scorching this guy . And then Conor McGregor , Conor .

Speaker 3

I love Conor .

Speaker 2

Yeah . So here's what Conor McGregor says to his Prime Minister .

Speaker 3

He says he says she was abducted by an evil terrorist organization . What is with you and your government and your paid for media affiliates constantly downplaying , attempting to repress horrific acts that happened to children ? You are disgraced . The day after a stabbing of children in Ireland , not one paper had it on their front cover . We will not forget .

So he's obviously mad at this guy for numerous things but , then he takes it upon himself . I mean it's really sad because I mean obviously this little girl , I think , that was released to her parents were killed , right ? Is this the same girl ?

Speaker 2

No , it's different .

Speaker 3

Different girl okay .

Speaker 2

Yeah , it's a different girl , but still .

Hamas Hostage Release and Media Coverage

But the point is taken , which is that there's so many of the people being released . This isn't some joyful situation where they're being released into the life they had once known . They're most likely have seen horrendous things over those 50 days . I don't even wanna discuss what could have happened to them . Right , you know beyond all of that .

But then the media pivots .

That Hamas is in the middle of is disgusting , and so Yashira Lee , who's a independent journalist , kind of made a quick reference to it into a tweet , which he was exactly right , and what he said was nothing like forcing children to hold your hand after you've held them captive for nearly 50 days and slaughtered their neighbors and or family Sick .

So what is Yashira Lee talking about ? Look at the video of Hamas as they release these people . Okay , we can bring the audio down just a little bit , abe , but look at this . So they have them all posing . The Hamas guys are waving goodbye to them . The kids are waving back . The mom is smiling , waving back .

They're walking with a girl like they're her escort , like they're done with 50 days of summer camp and now they're returning the kids to their families after they go and spend 50 days teaching them how to sit in the bottom of a dark tunnel and fear for their lives . What a joke this is .

These guys go out and do this and try to make it look like they were caring for everybody and doing the waves and the thumbs up and oh good to see you . Thanks for your help . See you next summer . This isn't summer camp . These people were held against their will . Many of them were abused . Many of them , I guarantee , were raped .

We know many of them lost family members because they were slaughtered by Hamas . And now they have the guts to go out and the gall to go out and walk these people up and send them back home with a hearty wave and we'll see you next year . What a bunch of crap .

Speaker 3

Like just to give you an idea of what some of these kids are going to have to deal with and what they have dealt with . This is this one tweet that I saw . It says here that this little girl there's a little picture of this little girl . She has no parents to return to Abigail Aiden is set to be released as part of the hostage deal with Hamas .

Her parents , rory and Samarda Samarda , were slaughtered in front of her eyes . The only comfort is that her brother Michael and sister Amelia miraculously survived , and there's a picture of her dad it looks like I mean so here again , holding the little girl's hand , walking her out as a free hostage . You have no idea of the whole story that's behind it .

Now she's gonna have to go through I don't even know what kind of therapy you go through to deal with the loss of your parents , who were murdered in front of you and then you were kidnapped for 50 days . Like there's just not .

You're not really understanding or explaining the whole situation , and I just think I feel like even the whole hostage situation in general has been way watered down from the beginning . I don't know why we haven't talked about it more just until recently and we're still watering it down . It still feels watered down to me , so I just think this is too bad .

You have over . I've read the number of 240 hostages . I don't know what the accurate number is . It jumps from 200 to 240 . They're releasing them . Basically , israel is releasing double the amount to Hamas' release .

Speaker 2

Well , and the people that Israel is releasing ? They're more lower line offenders , meaning they only tried to stab people when they committed their crimes versus the other the Israelis who were kidnapped and some Americans for just being children Right , right on the wrong side of a border .

Speaker 3

So it really is .

Speaker 2

It's unreal . And this whole Hamas approach here is terrifying in the respect that if media organizations can't pay attention to this and call it for what it is , then what are we doing here , you know ? And so to turn this into what it was . So if you haven't seen it and you're listening to us , just go watch it .

It is absolutely infuriating to watch and to see what happens , and it was interesting . I've heard some interviews , like Niftali Bennett , who is the former Prime Minister of Israel , who talked about what's gonna have to happen next , where are things going to go and what is this going to look like , and he made a very interesting point .

He's like look , if you go back to Nazi Germany and what they did , could you have pushed the Nazis back a bit and then had a ceasefire Right , and then just said , well , there's a conflict , you couldn't right .

Speaker 3

No way .

Speaker 2

They had to be defeated and you had to start over again . Basically and that's one of the interesting things he said was like look , we have to have the space and the ability to be able to win this war and to be able to create something going forward that even Palestinians can live with .

Because right now , when you have a terrorist organization , you know slaughtering people on your behalf and , in fact and you made this point in the last show which is that many Palestinians have been killed at the hands of Hamas .

Speaker 3

Yeah , because they don't care . They're not looking out for them either .

Speaker 2

No .

Speaker 3

They're not interested in running a country or running a government . They're interested in killing Jews .

Speaker 2

They're interested in killing Jews and if they have to kill extra Palestinians to help them kill extra Jews , then they'll do it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , the guy actually said in that interview that that's just the price of war . Is that you're gonna lose some lives in the process of your own people .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 3

Okay , I mean it's too bad . So I'm thankful to see some of them being returned . I am .

Speaker 2

Yeah , absolutely , and it'll go on for a few more days , and then we'll see .

Speaker 3

Then I think it will , and to your point on the Nazi things . It took years to conquer the Nazis , years to defeat them .

Speaker 2

Well , not only years to defeat them , but honestly to reeducate people away from Nazism right .

Speaker 3

That whole thought process .

Speaker 2

Yeah , like that has to happen too , or people and a lot of Palestinians have to be able to have access to an education that is not polluted by the whole focus being to kill as many Jews as you can , and that somehow there's honor in that . So we'll see how that shakes out , and I do wanna end with some positive .

Speaker 3

Yeah , let's end with a positive

EVs and Best Cheeseburgers Discussion

.

Speaker 2

Yeah , and , by the way , next , on Thursday , paul Gessing from the Rio Grande Foundation is coming in . He's gonna talk about this EV issue , which is fascinating , which is horrendous .

The state of New Mexico is forcing EVs down your throat in a way that is going to raise the price of what you pay for a car , and it's gonna either force you out of state to buy a car or it's gonna force the price up on the car that you want .

Speaker 3

And you may think that this is something that isn't impacting you or you're not that interested in . Take a listen to the interview . You might be surprised Because I do think in all honesty , some people are like la la la , I'm busy , I don't have time for this stuff .

I promise you pay attention to some of it because it will absolutely impact you or fellow drivers in your family , or your kids if they're learning how to drive .

Speaker 2

all those things are gonna be a big factor and the whole EV discussion in the United States is struggling with it right now because companies like Ford and Chevy are not able to really produce EVs in a way where they can make any sort of money on them , and more and more consumers don't want them , so we have a real production issue .

The Chinese are waiting to jump on that , and so there's just a lot to talk about with that . So we think it's gonna be really interesting conversation . But a list has come out the best cheeseburger in every state .

Speaker 3

And , by the way , this is usually what market I eat wherever we travel in the state of New Mexico . We've had more cheeseburgers with green chili on them . Yeah , yeah , no it's and I think , maybe any other couple in the state .

Speaker 2

It's in quite a bit , there's no doubt . No , there are some great spots . I mean , I can name 15 at least Right , and their choice was one that I would have had on the list .

Speaker 3

And I have my year .

Speaker 2

Not of one , but it would have been on the list .

Speaker 3

Okay .

Speaker 2

Okay , so number one was Sparkies and Hatch Sparkies is cool If you haven't been to Sparkies it's super cool . So it's a cool place to check out too . So you can see the building here . Like you got Colonel Sanders sitting out front , Ron McDonne , he's out front , and then it looks like I think Bob's Burger on the top there . He's up there .

It's a really cool restaurant . It's old school . You go in there . It's really awesome . The fries are solid . They go with more of a seasoned fry , Okay , and kind of wedges . They do the fry wedges , which is different , right , A little thicker , you know . So that's the move they make . The burgers are good .

Obviously , the hatch green chili on there is tremendous .

Speaker 3

Right , oh sure . So it is good there's no doubt ?

Speaker 2

Yeah , there's no doubt . So if you end up and it's a quick thing off I-25 . So if you're between T or C and Cruces and you'll see the hatch exit , you'll be at Sparkies in five minutes once you get off I-25 .

Speaker 3

Okay , so it's worth it . We'll have to check that out .

Speaker 2

Okay , but .

Speaker 3

Well , I mean , I love the buck corn , as you know .

Speaker 2

Yeah , you're the buck corn .

Speaker 3

I do make a stop at the buck corn all the time the buck corn side dishes and Fries are .

Speaker 2

I think the fries are better at the buck corn too .

Speaker 3

Well , the burger is ginormous . It's as big as my face and it's huge . Like you cannot eat a whole hamburger by yourself , If you can . Your name is Marker and Kettie , but I cannot eat the whole burger by myself . But it is so good and it is that green chili that is delicious on it .

Speaker 2

Well , it's a chopped , it's just a straight chopped green chili , which is great . Yeah , it's nice and spicy .

Speaker 3

I love it . Yeah , and I wish it was a little closer to where we lived so we could go more often , but that's probably a safety measure for me . And obviously we have to mention Bob's Burgers , because you have spent many times at Bob's Burgers without your special burger .

Speaker 2

Yeah , now the difference on Bob's Burgers is that that's a green chili sauce .

Speaker 3

Okay .

Speaker 2

Okay , so they put that on , which is spicy , and it's fantastic . Now , if you do , bob's Burgers also ask them to add an extra chicken patty .

Speaker 3

It's called the Ron Kettie .

Speaker 2

It's called the Ron Kettie . All right , no , they may not know that , but it is , and it's delicious . But there's just a green chili sauce , which is not just the chopped green chili . So it's the home of the Ranchero burger . So it's the Ranchero burger is the one where they put the sauce on right .

But if you just add another chicken you know , chicken breast on top of your burger , oh my God , you're doubling up your protein . It's delicious .

Speaker 3

The fact that you have created this and that they had a button for you at the one Bob's Burgers store that you went to all the time I'm central now . Yeah , that cracks me up , but anyway , All right . Well , we gotta get . We have to wrap , because John might think we're going too long .

Speaker 2

I know I like this . Now , this is it , johnny's right giant . Good call man , we're out of here under 50 minutes which I feel pretty good about .
