Certain words seem to only be used in certain contexts and propitiation is on that is rarelyif everused outside of the religious world The word carries the idea of appeasing and shows us the manner by which we as sinners can be made friends of God God is appeased through Christ who is our propitiation Knowing that 1 John 4 gives us a greater appreciation for what propitiation does in our lives
