Episode description

RC Shaw is the author of Louisbourg or Bust, which was nominated for the 2018 Margaret and John Savage First Book Award for Nonfiction. He has written for The Globe and Mail, The Surfer’s Journal, Beach Grit Magazine, The Coast, and The Chronicle Herald. He holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from King’s University College in Halifax. His second book, tentatively titled Captain Solitude, will be published by Goose Lane Editions in Spring 2024.

When not teaching high school English and biology, RC Shaw can be found in the waves near his home in Cow Bay, Nova Scotia. As founder of the Cow Bay Concert Series, he has brought musical acts such as Bahamas, Matt Mays, Jenn Grant, and Rose Cousins to his community hall.

An avid and longstanding surfer, RC Shaw remains a sailing novice. Reading dozens of sailing books is the extent of his experience. Undaunted, one of his life goals is to sail across the Atlantic Ocean. He plans to enroll in a ‘Learn to Sail’ summer camp in the near future, likely alongside his pre-teen kids.
