NFL Weekly Game Previews: Week 8

NFL Game Deview is a production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

This is NFL Game Previews, and I'm game preview guy here with in depth primers on every single game that's going to be played this week. The Cincinnati Bengals are off to San Francisco after a week off. They get a forty nine Ers squad on a two game losing streak. Didn't we crown them champs a couple weeks ago.

Thirty steps through four cities and that's it.

The forty nine Ers come back home with a very bad impression of the Midwest. A three game losing streak is very much a possibility to not only do they face another Midwest team and maybe that's their kryptonite or something, but it's arrested Joe Burrow jamar Chase. Bengals squad that had the luxury of sitting and watching San Francisco struggle versus the Vikings.

Goes down forty nine Ers. Were in a tight game with Minnesota. Their rush attack only mustered three yards per carry. Sixty five yards.

And off to McCaffrey. Not a lot of room to run so far for Christian.

Yes, McCaffrey kept his streak of trips to Bob Ross Country alive, but he was slicing through defenses at a five plus yard per run clip his first four games when San Francisco was rolling. They need that kind of effectiveness again to set things right.

If the Bengals shore things up, though and limit McCaffrey, it goes a long way in limiting San Francisco's passing attack. Brock Purty faces a secondary that's held quarterbacks to a sub eighty rate for the year two. They have a iron t's that was tied for second most. When they hit their brake, the.

When it comes to McCaffrey, the pass catcher, Bengals have held running backs to a low eighties rating top ten there. McCaffrey did score on a reception last week fifty one yards.

So here's McCaffrey. He's gone touchdown forty.

Nine ers, sangles blind spot when it comes to pass defense, tight end rating allowed to that position almost one twenty. Only two teams.

I get forty nine Ers players probably care about the environment, but how about you some bags this week didn't sack Cousins once, part of why San Francisco let Minnesota go eight for thirteen on third down.

So here comes Burrow and his boys. Bengals offense hooda fans hoping stunted so far as a result of Joe Burrow's bump cap hit their by averaging just sixteen points seven points per game, one of the worst teams on third down.

This is a little like a Kyle Cartman slap fight. If you go off season numbers. The Giants defense ranked pretty low in points per game allowed, but they held Washington to seven points last week. Their offense puts them behind the eight ball. A lot quick.

No need to belabor the point. Zach Zach may be a lego maniac, but Wilson has not figured out how to put together many good passing games.

Pressure again, Wilson able to elude the rush of Reddick. Throws on the run and it's deflected and incomplete, throwing back across.

His body if you want to grasp for some zack straws. Though, despite their low sack total, the Giants are a blitz happy team. Wilson isn't great versus the blitz, but he's slightly better than he normally is. That's something right.

He feels that defense expand and boom, he dumps it down and they're trying to show these run looks.

Garrett Wilson the one guy most likely to have a big game catching the ball for the Jets. They've received little production from anyone else, Garrett averaging five catches sixty one yards per game.

Giants secondary had the most trouble with Washington's wide receiver Terry McLaurin ninety yards allowed to him last week.

So you get to Jets running back Grease Hall. He's averaged just eleven attempts per game. He has more big splash plays than anyone on the team, so he's their top offensive threat. Fast six point five yards per carry, that's cartman like two.

First down into the end zone, Grease Hall in for the touchdown and the Jets take the lead.

Stafford is picked time.

Let's start this conversation talking pressure. Stafford is not fared well throwing the ball under pressure. In twenty twenty three, his rate drops to seventy nine point three against it, he faced pressure over forty percent of his dropbacks. Last week he ended up with a low eighties rating and a loss.

He gets rid of the ball fast, as he often has.

This year, Stafford goes from facing TJ. Watten Company to Micah and his pals, and that's potentially more problematic because no team listens to Queen Bowie more often than Dallas does. A pressure rate over forty five percent, that's top in the league.

Right on, you, Parsons.

They listen to a lot of sweet too. Use the blitz quite a bit. Top ten on that front as well. Stafford's rating versus five plus eighty point five. He and the offense clearly rely on two wideouts for most of their damage. Cowboys face a Cooper Cup who comes in cold. That's rare. Seven targets last week only two catches twenty nine yards.

They got the matchup they won a Cup has had a couple of drops.

Early with him down. It was Puka Nakua's turn. Eight catches over one hundred and fifty yards last week. LA's famous for Will Smith, Jada Pinkett, Smith understanding right Stafford, Puka and Cooper can make an open relationship work too. Yeah, I just don't know how you defend it. That trio now takes on one of the top secondaries in the game in twenty twenty three, Dallas holding quarterbacks to a nice low seventy six point five rating. Cowboys specialty making

On the other side. The top corner in the game through six weeks, Dean Blands rating against twenty three point three. That's Numero uno three I iNTS seven passes defense, it's another.

Aucden Jordan Lewis is their Waldo sort of rating allowed near one twenty not a lot of yards given up. His rating is high due to giving up two tds. LA actually ran more than it passed last week, though Royce Freeman gave him sixty six yards five and a half per run. Filling in for Kyron Williams.

Rams get a good run from Freeman and he continues to push.

Ahead Cowboys only giving up three point six a run to running backs. Though that's tough, yea, my good persons, How was a bust that plan? So the Rams o facing a defense that's tough on most fronts, top ten unit in points per game allowed, just sixteen allowed per contest, top ten on third down two.

That bull was hit coming out of the hand of Herbert. It's fourth down.

The Dallas offense LA faces kind of like a DeLorean. It looks awesome on the surface, ranked high on third down and in points per games, scoring a healthy twenty five per well that it was a thing of beauty, yet the inside is kind of man and less. Marty and Dock are chilling in there. Dak Prescott just six T d's four I in t's a pedestrian ninety one rating.

Pressure is not at the heart of his troubles, though he's faced it less than thirty percent of his dropbacks, which is low. The LA secondary he faces has been tough on quarterbacks this year, and their play against the pass is not tied to a sack happy front. They do have a solid pressure rate at least rams, holding signal callers to a sub eighty rating. That's fit best sport, the fourth lowest completion percentage allowed.

Stop's going deep at it's cooking up.

With that said, last week, they gave up seventy nine yards to Deontay Johnson over one hundred to George Pickens, and he was the key to Pittsburgh's passing game and they didn't stop him. Let Kenny Pickett put up a rating close to one hundred in their house.

Now they take on CD Lamb. He's been solid at least almost eighty yards per game, close to six catches per contests.

Law perfect grow, but.

Dallas needs more production from Michael Gallup only thirty four yards per game. That's second on the team too. Tony Pollard is second on the team in receptions, almost thirty receiving yards per game. As a runner, has averaged a little over sixty rushing yards per.

No less, not sure if he fired up the troops pre game with some goo goo dolls, but he comes in hot three hundred and seventy eight yards last week, rating near one ten, two touchdowns, lots of clutch throws and.

He made use of all of his pass catchers, running back Cam Akers for thirty yards. But Green Bay secondary has to be able to play the tight end and wide receiver position well. TJ Hawkinson twelve targets versus San Francisco eighty six yards.

In Minnesota's whiteouts showed you can have good times without jj kJ Osborne forty seven yards forty seven to forty nine yards in his last three games. How's that for consistency.

Brandon Powell hauled in sixty four yards for him last week, and rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison was the star ten targets, one hundred and twenty three yards.

Cousins would love to get the same pass protection versus Green Bay as he did last week. Versus the forty nine ers. How about zero sacks taking what a try?

And is it a catch?

It is again? They're Week seven outing on offense against a top rated San Francisco defense. Packers defense may not be ranked as high, but they're not bad either, holding quarterbacks to an eighty six point nine rating, holding him under seven yards per.

Cheeseheads can't complain too much about their defense. It's their O that has them disgruntled. Haven't scored twenty one points in four straight games.

I know he's been criticized for trying to horse it up the field too much because the turnovers that have happened the last couple of games.

The vikings of twenty twenty three would seem to offer a chance for Love to feel Lalla lalla lovely again all of suicidal tendencies, I guess, But not if they show out like they did last week. Picked off rock party two times, held him to a sub ninety raate party down.

Green Bay's ground game has been disappointing so far, but Aaron Jones did go for four point four run last week, only eight carries. Just making sure his hammy is okay. May be time to turn him loose and up that workload.

Green Bay Packers hackers now looking up at Minnesota, hoping to claw back past them. Vikings trying to claw their way closer to Detroit. The Miami Dolphins are at home for Week eight, licking their wounds, taking on the New England Patriots, who got back into the win column last week. So they're the ones coming in hot.

This is round two for these clubs. First game was tight too. New England feeling like if we can get the kind of defensive showing we did in week two along with the offensive showing we got last week. We could be cooking with some gas Joes.

Jones didn't key in on any one guy. Pat's pass game a collective effort. Four guys had fifty plus yards, none with more than sixty three wide receivers, tight ends, running backs, all part of the action.

How does he replicate it this week? In his Week two game versus Miami, just five point five yards per attempt, one touchdown, one pick, a sub ninety eight, more in line with his twenty twenty three numbers and play.

The key maybe whether his line can hold Miami's pass rush at Bay See versus Buffalo, who has plenty of QB hunters. Jones faced pressure on just twenty one percent of his dropbacks, only got sacked once through the air.

Of the night, Bradley Chuck coming in, He's got up, shutup, throws it down.

Miami's pass rush hasn't slowed down either. They sacked Jalen Hurts three times last week. They have the fourth highest sack rate of any team in the league.

Everything cover Hurts kind of knocked out, it's free and the Dolphins have it. That was Phillips on the pass rush. He got in and Christian Wilkins comes up with it.

Miami's pressure versus Hurts did not have the same impact it did versus Jones, though their numbers against the pass still in really rough shape. After giving up two hundred and seventy nine yards, a couple touchdowns, and a rating year one ten to the Philadelphia passer Hurts, wait where.

The tackle is Brown to the end Zell touchdown Phillip.

But Miami might get to see cornerback Jalen Ramsey make his debut, and they didn't have cornerback Xavion Howard, so if they get those two back, it really changes things.

Pats run games still made up of Zeke and Ramandre. Stevenson didn't do much versus Miami in that Week two game, didn't do much versus Buffalo in Week seven. Their run game hasn't really led the charge for them yet.

They run against it bouncing off Stevenson not much. They are no game.

Miami's run game didn't do much for them either versus Philadelphia. Just three point eight to run, and their ground game is vital to their success.

Moster bet in the backfield plus a five.

That game wasn't out of hand early either, and it wasn't that they couldn't run it. Raheem Moster averaged five per carry to the edge.

Moster cross midfield into Eagles territory and run it hard to the forty.

Three yard line just nine attempts. Though they shied away from calling too many run plays in theory because they were missing three starting O linemen by game's end. Definitely tracked that situation as well. This week, but Moster it was a big reason their offense functioned as well as it did when they beat New England. He ran for one hundred and twenty one yards, two tds and a nice six point seven per run against him.

Oyster takes off and those the districts for the touchdown, so the Patriots' defense sees Moster pull off the biggest brunt of the night.

Patriots gave up four point three per carry to James Cook last week, but they've held running backs to three point five on the year. And then the burning question how well can New England's secondary hold up versus Twuah, Tyrek and Waddle. They did a good job and their loss to them in week two. Held tongue Iloa to a low nineties rate, picked him off, kept Hild of forty yards five receptions on nine targets.

So a first window clothes fighters down the build hill, out of bounds and incomplete as Marcus Jones.

Is over there covering go for eighty six in that game. He went for sixty three last week, dealing with a back injury as well, so track him too. Tyreek dropped eighty eight yards in a touchdown versus the Eagles.

It's one thing to beat one of the best quarterbacks at football, and James Bradberry. This was double coverage. They were going to bracket him and he ran right pass both.

Up only eight yards per catch, though, so his stats were somewhat volume based. Patriots secondary they take on just held Josh Allen to a ninety rate, picked him off, held him to under seven yards per attempt, held Stefan Diggs to fifty eight yards at.

The ultimate key to slowing TUA. Can you pressure him? Miamis two losses, both subpar outings for number one. Both games he took three plus sacks. Hasn't taken that many in any other game.

Three offensive linemen out on the left side. There just was no way if they had to resort to a drop back pass game that they were gonna survive against this defensive line.

New England's pass rush has an average pressure rate, one of the lowest sack rates in the games.

They do blitz a lot, though fifth most TUA eats Blitzes for breakfast seven touchdowns no picks, rating of one thirty five point one against five plus.

Here's the thing. Tua has had three games with a rating over one ten where he looked unstoppable versus the Chargers Swiss cheesiest secondary around, versus the Broncos secondary was atrocious at the time, and versus the Panthers thirty second, thirty first and twenty fourth and rating aloud Coast.

Broncos defense was looking historically bad over the first five games. Then they met up with the Chiefs a few weeks ago, held them to nineteen points. Then followed it up holding Green betas seventeen. Good enough for a win.

Can they do it? Three games in a row? Patrick Mahomes comes in feeling good. Four touchdowns, rating near one thirty versus the Chargers, over four hundred passing.

He seems to have anything he wants offensively right now. It's been fun to watch the tight end.

And who is it that fueled Casey's passing attack last week? The dude cranking just a girl or don't speak in his earbuds before games these days, or is he more into Gwen's newer stuff. I don't know. Kelsey one hundred and seventy nine yards last week in a touchdown taking.

A handoff pass in the middle. Kelsey's reaching for the gold line. He's supped across.

Oh my plays.

I don't even know what Stefani's newer music is like, to be honest. Nine plus receptions in each of his last three games. Now, Kelsey sixty plus yards in his last five.

Burton two and they've got about the first down. Talk about easy. No one near Kelsey.

But has Chef's Kingdom really excited? Is Rashid Reis sixty plus yards back to back weeks for the receiver scored last week as well. If he develops into a legit number two option, Casey becomes as hard to stop this year as they were last year.
