NFL Weekly Game Previews: Week 7

NFL Game Deview is a production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

This is NFL Game Previews, and I'm game preview guy here with in depth primers on every single game that's going to be played this week. Philadelphia Eagles five and one on the year at home for Sunday Night Football, taking on a fellow five and one are in the Miami Dolphins, who held up their side of the bargain and making this game feel like a potential Super Bowl preview.

Hi, we don't. He's never one of us. I'm not a whole plan out of it.

If you're filming Miami celebrity status growing to Axel Rose levels, I guess they started way later than they were supposed to last week, but once they hit the stage, ripped it up real.

And unlike Axel Tyreek wants you to take pictures of him. He'll even take them for you.

Well, he went out and found that guy in particular, guy he wanted to run and get the phone from.

Philadelphia's defensive task is simple, but not really. Dolphins offense has four key legs. It stands on the two most obvious TUA and Tyreek.

It's cup by Hill. Look at him, he's super rocking in his hey.

Hill has four games with over one hundred and fifty five yards, already went for one hundred and sixty three last week. Dolphins have won three of the four games handily.

Time for Tua.

Here he comes Hill touch in twenty four yard pickup.

Hill leads the league in receiving yards, receiving yards per game, receiving touchdowns, and yards per catch. No one in the league is harder to cover at this point. He can't be left one on one unless Philadelphia signs the Flash to play corner this week.

Tongue of Iiloa knows all that and benefits from it. Eagles facing a quarterback leading the league in TD passes, passing yards per game, rating, yards per attempt, yards per completion, three tds last week, rating over one twenty five.

There are times he doesn't even look like he's trying. Just be patient and the Cheetah will eventually be open. If not him, Burgis Meredith will sorry get the times right. Colin Ferrell. Jalen waddled again last week. He scored back to back games.

The real key to slowing that Trio down is pressuring Tua, which is not easy. No what else tongue of Iloa's number one in least amount of pressured faced in large part because no quarterback is getting rid of the ball faster than he is.

What's the timing quickly comes out of his hands. It's on top of burials before the defense.

Miami has taking the second few of sacks just six. Tua took four in one game. They're only lost to Buffalo week four.

See where this is all headed right? Philadelphia's front is front and center if they want to slow down Miami. Good thing for them. They have the kind of front that's capable of that second QB hits this year fourth most sacks pressure rate near forty seventh highest in the NFL.

Wilson in trouble at he sacked Jordan Davis.

Eagles come off a five sack outing versus New York. Hassan Reddick is on a tear two and a half bags week six back to back games with two plus a sack in three straight games.

Wilson in trouble and he takes a huge sack Hassan Reddick his second sack.

Josh Sweat has three and a half QB takedowns this season, as does defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who missed last week. They could really use him and cornerback Darius Slay who also sat out last week. They haven't locked down wide outs this season, have allowed a ninety point eight rate to the position. Give up ninety yards to Garrett Wilson.

Last week going down the sideline for Carrott, Wilson makes the adjustment for and the grab.

If all of that is just half the challenge facing Philadelphia defenders, the Dolphins run game doesn't get the same acclaim as its pass game, as if they keep piling up one hundred yard rush games on the back end of the game, that's not it. Raheem Moster one hundred and fifteen yards last week, two more touchdowns six point eight to.

Mike McDaniel's run play designs are what really makes their offense.

To deal with, the Eagles need their defense to play moster the way they've handled most backs, holding them to three point one to carry second lowist in the NFL, held Breise Hall to three point three a run.

And on first down nowhere to go. That a good push up front.

It wasn't the Eagles defense that had issues versus New York, it was their offense, specifically Jalen Hurts. He needs to wake up for this one or it could get away from the Eagles. Miami's offense won't likely be as stagnant as New York's was. Three I T's last week, and the Jets didn't even have Sauce or DJ Reed at corner.

Heerts in trouble a wabbler as he's hit and it's intercepted.

That pressure came late, forced to floater and hole with the interception.

Hurts is a sub ninety rate in three of their last four games. He's faced a decent amount.

Of pressure lately too. Took two sacks versus the Jets.

That's not a big deal, but faced pressure over forty percent of his dropbacks that did affect him in trouble.

Hurts backs up to the inzo on the run by in time, Hurts throws in kompoint.

Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson also left the game hurt and his backup struggled. That's problematic versus the Dolphins because another overlooked aspect about them their pass rush. Only two teams with more sacks than them. No one with more QB hits.

No look out for Wilkins and shop.

Andrew van ginkel Zach Sealer four sacks each, Christian Wilkins three and a half, Emmanuel Ogba, Bradley Chubb two plus each.

Right out here kick hole pub zails yet another sack.

And Jalen Phillips came back from injury last week too. They for sure have the front to bother hurts. Their problems kick in when they don't get home. Though ninety eight point nine rating allowed quarterbacks, completion percentage allowed near seventy.

They gave up one hundred and fifteen yards to Adam feel and a touchdown in their Week six win. They've given up a one oh five point nine rate to wideouts in twenty twenty.

Three dam So touchdown Celon. They also saw.

Cornerback Xavian Howard leave with a groin injury, so it could be even tougher to cover aj Brown. He just keeps piling up one hundred yard games one hundred and thirty one versus New York one hundred and twenty five plus and four straight.

Vonte Smith forty four yards last week, eleven targets only five catches. He's been kind of quiet two games in a row. Tight End Dallas Godder forty two yards. Week six, running back DeAndre Swift forty receiving yards in a TD.

Swift as a runner disappeared last week eighteen yards on ten carries. He hasn't been over four point one a run in three straight games now. Maybe the last name is too much to bear.

Swift to carry negative play.

Hurts has been using his legs effectively enough, though, Forty seven yards last week in a score.

Hurts dancing around again escapes, the botet, finds room to run and hurts out of bounds on a diagonal.

Best game of the week, no matter how Philadelphia look versus New York Stars galore on both sides of the ball. One of the best Week seven games on the docket. Detroit Lions on the road in Baltimore. Back from Jolly Old England feeling pretty jolly.

Set to Bacchinostone and he still hasn't.

Baltimore's defense proved to be too much for Tennessee's offense last week, and it's proven to be too much for most teams this season. Lions high powered, oh squaring off with a Ravens bunch that's top three in points per game allowed this year.

It's got to help.

It's back to Queen, so Queen gets the King off the field.

Ravens defense has very few weaknesses. Tough against the run, strong pass rush, good against the pass, and all of those will be needed versus Detroit's offense, which is one of the most balanced attacks in the league.

Goff has a man on the out route and it's a connection with his excellent rookie tight end Sam Laporta.

How balanced Detroit is this week will Hinge on the availability of its backfield. Rookie Jamiir Gibbs didn't play Week six and David Montgomery left their game hurt.

He is the engine, in my opinion, that gets this offense running. That that would be a huge loss for this team.

That placed and could place a lot of pressure on Jared Goff to move the ball and against the Tampa Bay secondary that had played the pass tough. He went for three hundred and fifty plus yards, eight yards per attempt, two tds, no picks, a raiding near one ten.

Goff loads it up through behind Josh Reynolds, who makes the adjustment as he often has for his quarterback.

Goff now has an other tough secondary to battle with. The Ravens have held quarterbacks to a low seventies rate. They're in the sub sixty completion percentage club. Not many are in that club.

Ravens all around and broken up by Marcus Williams.

I'm on Ross Saint Brown versus cornerback Marlon Humphrey. That's a big one. Humphrey does plenty of traveling. Ravens held DeAndre Hopkins to one catch last week, just twenty yards. They're holding wide receivers to a seventy point four rate in twenty twenty three.

Pressure up the middle, Pittman John Les battles and drops knocked out of his hands by Brandon Stevens.

Saint Brown comes in off a twelve catch, one hundred and twenty four yard td outing. Fifteen of Golf's forty four targets went to him.

Under pressure, Golf was protected. Saint Brown has it. Craig Reynolds to the big block, and Saint Brown works all the way downfield for the touchdown.

Gough's second favorite look to Sam Laporta.

GoF plenty of time man this time. Sam Laporta holds up to.

Move the chains only thirty six yards last week, but eleven targets. No one else on the team had four plus. Baltimore's linebackers and safeties will also make it tough on him, though they've held tight ends to a fifty eight point nine rating incomplete.

He was trying to hit Darnell Washington, the third round rookie from Georgia, and Rokeewand Smithson not on my watch.

Ravens also have Josh Reynolds to worry about. Fifty yards last week, He's given him fifty plus in each game he started and finished Goff.

On second down, beautiful throw up the scene for Josh Reynolds.

And Baltimore's DB's better handle their Jamison responsibly. Williams is the game breaking threat of forty five yard touchdown last week.

Once it all Jamison Williams looking for the ball.

Touchdown, yet another beefy battle. Goff's O line against Baltimore's pass rush. Ravens with a sacks six versus Tennessee twenty four sacks and six games.

They aren't blitz happy either. He's take it down to Debbian Clowney flip the coin.

Now, Lions defense facing a Raven's offense that's still a work in progress, middle of the pack and scoring, but with their d they don't need a ton of points. Detroit still has to play the run well first and foremost specifically, they have to be able to play Lamar Jackson's legs well.

Nice footboard Jackson, don't step first down right putting on a show.

Right there, Jackson is still taking off with the ball. He led the team in rushing yards versus Tennessee, has forty five plus rush yards in their last five games.

You will step up and go aside the spread them up, then slice them up.

Detroit has allowed four point five a run to quarterbacks. That's the wrong side of average compared to the rest of the league. When Baltimore hands off Gus Edwards under four yards per carry last week, but he's given them between forty and sixty five yards five straight Scus Edwards.

Again, nice speaking down Baltimore, tough to tackle that guy.

He will have a tougher time than Jackson in theory lions of stuffed running backs to three point one a run only one team ahead of them.

What's Detroit's secondary dealing with when it comes to the Ravens passing game? The consistent components Jackson, Mark Andrews, Ze Flowers. Flowers caught Lamar's one touchdown past week six fifty yards, his low for the year forty eight. He's having a nice rookie year.

Andrews led the team in receiving yards versus Tennessee with sixty nine sixty five plus yards and three straight for him.

Lions defense hasn't handled tight ends great, allowing a rating near one hundred to them. Didn't face an a list or last week. Detroit's better versus wide outs, holding them to under a ninety rate held Mike Evans four catches on ten targets. Week six held Baker Mayfield a five point six yards per attempt. No touchdowns are rating under sixty.

Picked him off off a fake, off a pump at a flet, shit at a pick. It belongs to Detroit.

Jackson isn't easy to sack, not hard to either. He has taken sixteen sacks in six games. Pressure rate faced

Kansas City winning its last sixteen regular season games.

Casey's on a five win vender. Patrick Mahomes three hundred and six yards passing last week, has thrown for two hundred and seventy plus and four of their last five.

This is what separates the past.

Thritney was at Casey's game again. Not surprising then that Travis Kelcey comes in off his best twenty twenty three showing Kelsey apparently inspired by spears. Nine targets, nine catches, one hundred and twenty four yards.

They said, forget these receivers, let's put two on eighty seven. He'll take care of it.

Good for Kelsey, by the way, hanging with an older woman. And yet La isn't facing an elite offense. The Chiefs have only put up twenty four plus points in two games this season.

Well say, if the Chiefs offense can't get going, it's something that doesn't not said too often.

Mahomes hasn't been thrilled with the offense. Despite the wins, they only scored nineteen versus Denver on a night the Broncos were playing hot potato with the ball. No, you guys take it. Mahomes threw his fifth kick in six games, very undued for him, four for thirteen on third down versus a Denver defense ranked near the bottom in almost every way.

Denver defense once again setting up before.

Them, Mahomes goes from one bottom dwelling secondary to another. Chargers defense hasn't played the pass well either. In twenty twenty three. Have given up one of the highest rates in the game. Gave up two hundred and seventy plus yards to Dak Press got last week rating allowed close to one ten and.

They have really struggled and they've had a lot of opportunities.

Mahomes needs one of his receivers to develop into a consistent second option. Rashi Rice was sort of that guy Week six. Four targets, four catches, seventy two yards.

Get a glimpse of what Rice can do after the catch.

They just haven't seen any wide receiver really have back to back good games yet for them. Could he versus LA's secondary, It certainly seems like it. They gave up over one hundred and ten yards to Ceedee Lamb. They've allowed the second highest rate to wide receivers of any team.

He just opens up a big window there for Lamb to get in.

Kansas City's tackles are going to have to ball this weekend to give Mahomes time. They will be doing battle with Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack and Morgan Fox. Juwan Taylor may need to line up behind Mahomes a kid, a kid, but not kidding. Chiefs line plus Patrick's legs have helped him face the second least pressure in twenty twenty three, and he holds the ball plenty long.

He just is it so many times you kind of get used to it.

Mac picked up his seventh sack versus Dallas. Morgan Fox bag Dac twice. He's got five sacks now in a four game bag streak.

The loss on the plane, it's Morgan Fox.

We mentioned Mahomes legs, He's using them more in picking up lots of first downs. Thirty one yards rushing last week, averaging thirty point eight per game right now, his career high for a season twenty two.

The second he gets out here, things get tough.

The Chargers just let Prescott go for forty rushing yards five point seven are running a touchdown.

Nobody accounted for Prescott the back.

LA will try and stop Isaiah Pacheco sixty two yards last week, sixty plus yards and five straight games, and.

It really gives him a balanced attack.

If the Chiefs o face sputters again, La still has to be able to hang some digits on Kansas City's defense. They were unable to hang many points on Dallas's when.

They needed a play.

It was the front that made it happened.

So we've got an underperforming offense that has to improve against the Chiefs d holding opponents to just fourteen points seven points per game.

A defense is is through it right to him.

They are top ten on third down, holding quarterbacks to an eighty two rate.

And this is why I think it's a challenge for opponents going against the Chiefs this year.

The LA pass catchers are going to have to work safety Justin Reid holding targets to a sub seventy rate. Cornerback Joshua Williams sub seventy five, cornerback Trent McDuffie sub eighty, and they're big man on campus. Cornerback Lagerias Sneid low sixties guard it there by Sneid Chiefs have held wide receivers to a sub eighty rating and that's an A plus battle. Then with Keenan Allen eighty five yards versus Dallas and he scored. He's the focal point to their passing attack.

Chargers have Joshua Palmer sixty yards last week, but they need more. Herbert hasn't looked as crisp lately.

You don't see justin Herbert missed too many of those.

Herbert only took one sack, but he was hit eight times. The pressure Dallas applied played a big role in keeping him at bay, and.

Then Herbert's success weight a minute was supposed to.

Have that protective.

Kansas City's pass rushes built on two primary tent poles, Chris Jones and the blitz. Cj has a sack in every game he's played five and a half for the year. Kansas City a blitz rate over thirty eight percent, fourth highest in the league, but this.

Is a fast, athletic Kansas City defense.

Should be noted then, that Herbert has seventy d's against five plus, tied for the most in the league, a fat one fifteen point nine rating. He's been better against the blitz than without it.

Slum its sidearm man into the zone.

Chargers did get Austin Eckler back last week, but he ended under two yards per carry in his return.

Eckler dancing got half a yard.

He could rebound, though Chiefs defensive flaw is still run defense. Gave up five point two a run to Javonte W. Williams on his ten tries, four point three to Julia McLaughlin, four point five to running backs in twenty twenty three.

Lot lok on forty nine ers lift their wounds and head to Minnesota. Who ain't dead yet? In fact, they feel happy thinking about going for a walk.

It may not have been pretty, but we've all seen those ugly dogs win that award. Right, they're still wearing the sash and laughing all the way to the Canine Bank.

No jj no problem, just crank some Creed and everything's good. I guess Kirk Cousins did just enough, throwing passes to guys with arms wide open and their defense three hickaways. It was like Chicago's own prison out there last week.

Vikings players treated to some higher by Creed pre game ahead of the Week six flash with the Bears. Minnesota players like dang Kirk, you didn't seem like a cat down with the four to twenty funny.

He's like, no, that's not what he's singing about. You know, you know what, screw it. Maybe it does mean that whatever it takes to fire everyone up, and seemed to fire up the defense at least.

Age, let's it flog and it's a duck and it's intercepting. Futter and Murphy picked it off.

They dominated justin fields before he left her and he had been on fire the previous two games, and they held the Bears offense, which had averaged over thirty points per game in their last two to thirteen points.

You see Josh via tell us getting home again. That's what he's so good at.

Now they see what they can do versus Rock Purty and who he saw Deebo and CMC leave hurt last week. Clearly they topped the injury watch list.

Christin McCaffrey is headed to the locker room sprinting, but again, forty Niners need him right now.

And do something he's never had to attempt before start a game after losing an NFL regular season game.

Oh Wusu Cormoa got enough depth that he's able to elevate that ball.

He just is able to get his hands on it. But party's lucky that wasn't a pick.

To rebound, He's going to have to beat the Blitz and with it to kneel the QB Hunter. No team Blitz is more than Minnesota. Hunter had two sacks last week.

He would now star on the OCHO for the number of bags he's collected for the Sea it is a sack.

He now has seven of the fifteen sacks this year for the Minnesota Kicks.

Ouchtown population. You bro so which party shows up the one with a plus one hundred rate versus five plus pass rushers for twenty twenty three or the one that didn't crack a sixty rate versus five plus versus Cleveland last week.

Thirty nine ers need consistency from George Kittle. He goes from three tds one week to one catch for one yard.

This was supposed to be a little seen go route by Kittle, and I think this ball just comes out of his hand.

That's four Greg Kittle games for him in twenty twenty three. If there's no debo, Kittle and Brandon Ayuk become the focus for Minnesota's secondary. They held DJ Moore, who went for two hundred and thirty plus the week before to fifty one yards last week. You could see a lot of cornerback Byron Murphy, who's having a great year for the Vikes. Sub ninety rating allowed only one guy has more than his seven passes defense at that pass.

No Byron Murphy.

There defensively, forty nine ers rush attack could be in the hands of Jordan Mason if CMC is out, that's not a terrible thing. Over five yards per carry in his last two games, fifteen to tempts.

To Mason, good blocking, less cuts up the field five.

Partienzo McCaffrey being available would make things more problematic, obviously, but it should be noted under four yards per carry before he got hurt last week, under four a run the week before. Versus Dallas teams that are both tough on running backs in Minnesota's is as well, holding them to three point seven to carry.

Well, they'll keep it on the ground.

Evans fuffled it, but the Bears able to recover.

I can't keep up anymore, but their fans all thinking it took us losing our best player, a top receiver, a random missed field goal, and a lot of help from not to single them out, because we're not supposed to make anyone feel bad, but with a lot of help from Marty and his pals, from Madagascar.

I didn't see a ton of contact. Obviously, officials saw it different. And right now these penalties are killing San Francisco.

By the way, in case you didn't pick up on that, scoring on San Francisco is still going to take work. They didn't have any issues with PJ Walker, no touchdowns, picked him off twice. They have great numbers against qbs across the board.

He's one of the best coverage linebackers in the NFL, potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

At the same time, they did give up over one hundred yards to a Mary Cooper. It doesn't fit with how they've handled wide receivers in twenty twenty three, but it did happen.

There's Walker, you had some time gonna loft it up. Cooper's wide open. He's got it. Wicks the move, Cooper food grace.

Normally this is the moment we'd be like, oh snap, here comes JJ. But alas he can only clap from the sidelines, which is where he'll be again this week, rooting on cousins who had to grind without him.

Didn't throw any I in T's one TV at least.

Cousin Jova the middle, and he's able to find osports.

Still five point eight yards per attempt, only one hundred and eighty one yards passing. San Francisco is facing a passing attack that's a shell of its JJ sealt rookie Jordan Addison caught Cousins touchdown, not much else. kJ Osborne forty eight yards, tight end TJ. Hawkinson fifty. He led the team in catches and targets.

Just kind of gets his feet of the ground and that's what makes TJ. Hockinson so dangerous. He's so quick out of those breaks.

Cousins should expect pressure. Forty nine ers pressure rate one of the highest in the game. Newcomer Randy Gregory nabbed his first sack as a forty nine er versus the Browns.

The forty nine Ers don't blitz a ton. It's mainly their front four. So just how does Cousins handle pressure?

Well? Check it out.

He has seven touchdowns against it, most of any quarterback in the NFL. One of the best rates against it.

Yeah, those digits with Jefferson on the field for five games. When Minnesota Toak's at Alexander Madison forty four yards two point four a.

You know, that was a great, big time throwing catch by them.

Pooka Nakua twenty six yards. I'm glad you brought up Pooka, took Matthew Stafford probably feeling a little like j Lo explaining Ben to a Rod Luca. We had some great times together, we really did. I'm oh, I'm sorry, Pooka.

I mean, my goodness, there was one place and one player Stafford could throw that football too, and he did exactly that.

I thought Matthew was really outstanding.

Didn't have as many opportunities, but man, he settled in and made the big time throws when he had to.

Stafford himself over nine yards per attempt rating near one. Ten no picks, one TD pass.

Pretty hands from two to two at well, that's again of thirty yards and Stafford delivered it on time.

Cup and Stafford did their work versus an Arizona defense ranked near the bottom against the pass. The Steelers defense they play this week has been much tougher on qbs. They've held them to a mid eighties rating, holding them to a sub sixty completion percentage.

The catch is they haven't played wide receivers as well. Ninety three rating allowed to the position. When Stafford looks for Waldo, he'll find Patrick Peterson of all cornerbacks as wearing the red and white hat. Five tds allowed rating over one fifteen.

They're carving up this Pittsburgh defense sixteen yards of the fast play against the veteran Patrick Peterson.
