NFL Weekly Game Previews: Week 17

NFL Game Deview is a production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

This is NFL Game Previews and I'm game preview guy here with in depth primers on every single game that's going to be played this week. Dallas Cowboys back at Home, Sweet Home for a Saturday night special. The Detroit Lions are in town. Wait check that one, pride say it with me. The NFC North champion Detroit Lions are in town, looking.

Cowboys? Next up to try and handle one of the most balanced o's in the league. Let's start on the ground. Six the most rushing attempts in the league, third most rushing yards per game.

To the house shuts down. Detroit Lions untouched.

Jamior Gibbs went for eighty rushing yards five point three a carry, two tds eleven straight games. That dude is hit at four point seven a carry or better's dynamic.

Cowboys defense they face four point one yards per run allowed to running backs in twenty twenty three. Not a weakness, not a strength. They're typically tough on opposing passing attacks, but last week versus two a tongue of Iloa gave up over two hundred and ninety yards a touchdown, didn't pick them off a rating allowed near one hundred ninety nine yards allowed to Tyreek.

Tight End Sam Loporto was quiet last week. He's a major threat though. Jamison Williams five receptions last week forty three yards has gone for forty plus yards back to back games. He has speed to burn, so he's scary.

Lions fifth most points per game in twenty twenty three, third most yards per game.

Cowboys offense second in points per game, sixth then yards per game, seven games played at home, seven to zero, record thirty or more points scored in each win.

Cowboys offense sputtered though on the road versus Miami last week only twenty points, four for twelve on third down and one for three in the red zone.

Oh it's loose, who's got it? None heavy recovers.

Dak Prescott didn't fare great at moving the sticks, but he did throw for a couple touchdowns. He wasn't picked off over two hundred and fifty yards in a rating near one ten other than week fifteen versus Buffalo. He's on a nice ten game run.

The Lions defense he faces comes in off of four I in t outing though.

Mullin's going team that has picked off second today for Kurbie Choseph.

Detroit held Nick Mullins to a seventy nine point five rate as a result, but they also gave up four hundred and eleven yards to him two tds. Gave up over one hundred and forty yards and a touchdown to Jefferson.

Now they face CD Lamb, who went for six catches one hundred and eighteen yards versus the Dolphins.

Fresh down a deep strike to Lamb over the middle, makes a tiny inside, gets to the pylon and it's a touchdown for Cede lamb In.

Detroit's pass rush bother Dak the way Miami's did. They sacked him four times. He's taken three plus sacks and four straight now tenuous.

Sad he's taken down by Leonard Floyd.

Lions pass rush has lacked teeth on the season. They did finally show up versus Minnesota, though, sacking Mullens four times.

Lions have really stepped up the past couple of weeks, getting extremely aggressive.

Big picture, Dallas's sixth and passing yards per game facing a Detroit defense twenty third in air yards per game allowed, twenty fourth in points per game allowed. As go time,

Miami Dolphins win it and they take it all over with one week to play up.

Both teams come off statement wins. Now each one finds themselves having to make another one. Baltimore's Week sixteen statement, we are the best team in the NFL and don't you dare disrespect us again?

And party is spinning around. There are two flags on the play. This is another pick by Hamilton, bat it up into the air by Marlin Humphrey and these two keep coming finding for interceptions.

Ravens offense and defense both top shelf. Let's start with their secondary versus Tua Tyreek and hopefully the Penguin. Baltimore has elite numbers versus quarterbacks this season and that reality was on full display last week. Facing the quarterback with the best stats in the game, picked him off four times.

Purdy and zone He's bet intercepted, buying Hamilton and a takeaway. Exactly what the Ravens needed. And this kid Hamilton is a start.

Now they take on the guy with the second best digits this year, and that reality was on display as well as to a Tongue of Iloa threw for two hundred and ninety three yards in a rating close to one hundred against a top tier secondary equipped with an elite pass rush.

Tongue of Iloa only got dropped once by Dallas. Miami has given up the third few of sacks in the league.

Now he faces another stacked front. Baltimore leads the NFL in sacks. Forty nine ers were top ten and sacks taken, yet Baltimore took them down four times, hit San Francisco's quarterbacks nine times.

Now when Baltimore wasn't picking Purty off or dropping him like he was hot, they gave up some big pass plays allowed over one hundred and twenty yards to George Kittle, over one hundred and ten to Brandon Ayuk, which brings us to mister Hill runs a lot faster than Hank and is one of the two MVP candidates in this game. Tyreek went for nine catches ninety nine yards versus Dallas last week. He leads the NFL in receiving yards.

Talk about Law gets rid of Hill God hangs off for our first down with the Dolphins. He had two catches in the first step, but he's got four in this second half, and you see he's fired off.

Raheem Moster leads the league with eighteen rushing tds. He leads a Miami rush attack that's first still in yards per carry for the year at an even five.

Baltimore's own run game right behind Miami's at four point nine a run. They lead the league in rush attempts rushing yards per game. The other MVP candidate really the front runner, a big reason why it takes.

A team to win an MVP award. All right, but I know who the MVP is is Lamar Jompson.

Lamar went for forty five yards rushing six point four per carry versus the forty nine ers on the road, danced around for a thirty yard er like everything was in low motion around him.

He is one of one and that's a season long thirty one yard carry by Lamar.

Baltimore's running backs don't come in hot, though, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill under three and a half a carry versus San Francisco. Miami's run defense has spared well against backs in twenty twenty three, and just as important against quarterbacks, holding them to three point five a run for the year, tied for sixth lowest hurts.

We'll keep it putting to the right good job on the end to bring him down lost of a couple Jerod Baker.

Then there's the battle between Miami's secondary and Lamar the passer. He shined versus a top tier forty nine ers secondary over two hundred and fifty yards two tds no picks a rating over one hundred.

Zay Flowers continues to be the guy. He throws to most nine catches seventy two yards in a touchdown. Last week. No one else had five targets.

Flowers is a slot dude in Miami secondary. Had trouble with Dallas' slot dude last week. Gave up over one hundred and fifteen yards and a touchdown to CD Lamb Lamb.

Dolphins allowed Dak Prescott to throw for two hundred and fifty three yards two touchdowns. They didn't pick him off. Gave up a rating near one hundred. They've handled B level and below quarterbacks this year really well. Guys like Dak Russell, Wilson, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts have had some success against them, though.

Joy for the Cooks. Cooks does he have it touchdown?

Dallas Dolphins pass rush in Baltimore's O line is beefy Miami with four sacks last week's second most in the NFL.

Prescott in trouble and he has sacked. Oh my goodness. They go from the one to the twelve.

What makes their pass rush specials? They have Christian Wilkins with eight sacks and Zach Seeler with eight and a half at DT, so they aren't just a team with two speed guys on the outside.

Let's is coming Prescott season. Honey sacks, Bles gets home. Van Jakl had help as well.

They do have good speed guys on the outside, though Bradley Chubb leads them with eleven quarterback takedowns Lamar takes sacks unless he cops one up, though it's something they live with so much on the line in this one, it's a crime. It's not being flexed in this Sunday

I think we're hunger motivated eager season not done yet.

Eagles currently second in NFC due to tiebreakers. Cowboys a game behind them, so they can't let up. Can't overlook their opponent this week, Arizona three to twelve after taking another l the latest to a four win team.

Cardinals at it well covered, doesn't matter field scores the first touchdown of the game.

Philadelphia, though didn't dominate a five win Giants squad have some rough edges on both sides of the ball to try and smooth it out. Defensively, gave up twenty five points to the second lowest scoring team in the league.

Giants have a giant score quickly an answered.

Philadelphia offensively turned the ball over two times, two plus turnovers in three straight games for them.

Now he wants Quiz Watkins and at Except to be the one to play Julian Love.

Jalen Hurtz was responsible for one of those giveaways. He's thrown three iron t's in his last two games, hasn't cracked ninety on the ratings scal and four straight games.

Wasn't all bad for Hurts last week, though, over three hundred yards almost eight yards per attempt. One of the first games this year we've seen him utilize all three of their primary pass catchers in the same game with success. AJ Brown six catches, eighty yards.

Loge Goddard now goes up against an Arizona secondary that gave up over one hundred yards to tight end Cole Commett on four catches looking deep.

Arizona's past he has been one of, if not the worst in the league in twenty twenty three. So if Hurtz doesn't come out with a ninety plus rating at the end of this one, sound the alarms sings.

Philadelphia's secondary hasn't been a beacon of light either though, and that's an opening for someone like Kyler Murray. He comes off his best twenty twenty three outing too, two hundred and thirty yards, two tds, no picks, a rating of ninety seven point five.

Zell touchdown, and Arizona has James Connor. He caught a touchdown last week, sixty seven receiving yards, forty five rush yards.

Eagles defense held Sacue Barkley to three and a half of carry his three receptions only netting him four yards.

I the Eagles do a good job of tackling Barkley.

Philadelphia would like to see its pass rush wake up. Giants are second to last and sacks taken. Eagles only had one bag last week. Murray sacked two times minimum every start he's taken.

Steeler secondary typically feeds off the heat. They cooled off a hot Jake Browning only one touchdown. They picked him off three times, held him to a sub seventy rating, have held quarterbacks to a sub eighty five rating for the season.

Now, they did give up one hundred and forty yards in a touchdown to wide receiver Tee Higgins fifty nine yards to wide receiver Tyler Boyd. Sattle's offense built on w rs. Tyler Lockett, Jackson Smith and Jigba dk Metcalf. He scored versus Tennessee. Metcalf has made a significant impact in four straight games.

Pittsburgh's passing attack also comes in feeling it. Hey, Rudolph got some more presence to deliver. Hope. You can guide slays and offenses just as well. Rest of Pittsburgh's pass catching cast kind of ho hum versus the bengalsod Off only took one sack, only three QB hits. The Seattle secondary he faces hasn't fared great the second half of the season, but they did bottle up Ryan Tannehill at least held d Hop to twenty yards and.

Intercepted Hawk's run defense didn't fare as well, though, gave up eighty eight yards on four point six yards per carry to the King, who had looked more like the Prince of bel Air recently.

Pressure could be a problem again this week because Vegas's pass rush is legit now. They bagged Mahomes four times. A team that was top three in sacks allowed.

Who does Indy double? Max Crosby no sacks last week, but thirteen and a half for the year for Malcolm Koontz, who made Casey's tackles looked like Pylon's all game long sack Patrick three times.

Chim John Colts pass defense didn't sparkle versus Taylor Heineck either. Nick let him go twenty three of thirty three a touchdown. They didn't pick him off a rating given up near one hundred.

The fectis Colts with only one sack last week. They're a top five sack team. They also have played the pass better than that most games they go up against Aidan O'Connell.

This week it was a team win.

Those guys carried me, so it was awesome.

Here they came O'Connell, Dad Crows, Adam be complete incomplete for O'Connell, who was now missed his last nine pass attempts.

New York Giants are at home for New Year's Eve. This week they take on the LA Rams, who may be the hottest team in the NFL at this stage.

Even if they find a way to slow Kiren, then there's dealing with Stafford, Cooper and Puka. Stafford faced one of the top passing defenses in the league last week.

This guy is a stud. He elevates everybody myself included, twenty.

Four to thirty four over three hundred and twenty five yards, two tds, no picks, a rating over one twenty. He's looked stellar over his last five games, one hundred plus rating in each fourteen touchdowns, only one iron t in that span.

Scrambles.

He goes against the great damn side line clock had to play alive. Is a thirty two yard pickup.

He's playing out standing and I wouldn't want anyone else in the world leading our team.

Then then you want to tight flet Bayne on this guy.

Or what of course if he's coming in on fire. His pass catchers are as well. Nakua nine catches one hundred and sixty four yards and a TV last week over thirteen hundred yards as a rookie. You know, Stroud's had a great year, but this guy is would he would get my vote.

Stafford has sets the laces, drills one and so touts put two.

There is no pressure to go out there.

So being able to go out there and play free and give everything that comes with it.
