Episode description

As holiday celebrations get underway, veterinarians and pet‑safety experts are urging families to be mindful of seasonal hazards that can put dogs and cats at risk. Foods like chocolate, grapes, onions, and xylitol‑sweetened desserts can cause poisoning, while turkey bones and rich leftovers often lead to digestive issues. Decorations—including tinsel, ornaments, electrical cords, and certain holiday plants—also pose dangers, especially for curious pets. Mike Reisenburg with DogWatch of the Shenandoah Valley says a few simple precautions can prevent most accidents. He recommends keeping food out of reach, securing Christmas trees, covering exposed cords, and creating a quiet space for pets during gatherings. With some planning, Reisenberg says families can enjoy the season while keeping their pets safe and stress‑free.
