Episode 105: Quarantine Recommendations

the show that I'm writing on. So now I'm like, I'm need to make a structure for myself that isn't mandated. That's That's the thing is. Last week was mine and I was like, yeah, I don't know what's going to happen. Am I just gonna start waking up at three pm? I do wake up really late. But it's also because I've just been living wild on the other side, because normally with the show, I'm done by leven, and this

past week I've just started for multiple different reasons. I started gaming after the show, like when Final Fantasy seven remake came out, I was playing games till uh four in the morning, and then last night I was gaming, and then I was testing some stream stuff out to try and tune up my stream, and I was like, oh, yeah, because it's late, no one's gonna be if I'm logged. If I'm like starting the stream and ending it, no one's gonna be jumping into it and seeing it. One

I was wrong about that. People kept still popping by and being like, oh, what's you doing. I'm like, I'm trying to do some stuff. But then also I didn't get done with that. I think I went to bed at like five fifty. Yeah, I uh, I don't know. I can't stay up like super late. I feel like I'm like a creature of habit. Plus I have my dog, um, who you made periodically here throughout this recording. But um,

she wakes me up at like eight am. She doesn't know there's a quarantine really, So except that that, I'm like, as I eat throughout the day, she's like, oh, we're also eating, okay, cool? Like can I be fed as well? Um, It'll be like noon and two pm and bold Like, as I'm snacking, she was like, oh, great, so we're eating now, so you can go ahead and feed me. Yeah. No, that's that's That's kind of how it's been with Withnmi. You know, she's losing her mind. She's like, what is

going on? Why am I not in school? I just learned about the school thing and now and now I'm not there. So have you to explain to her any anything like about people being sick? Are you kind of just like I didn't tell her that, yeah, because she was kind of because at first she thought she wasn't going to school because of the rain, and we had to be like, no, everyone just has to stay inside so we don't get sick. And and so she's kind of gotten into so like every time we go outside,

she's like, people are sick. I'm like, yeah, well I shouldn't just be yelling at at people with power. Oh my gosh. They are so bold. They just tell you what we're all thinking. Well, today we wanted to help some of you all out who are searching for new things in quarantine by giving you some of the rex that we're into, hopefully some new things or some things

that you forgot about and wanted to pick back up. So, if you and I made our list of quarantine res that we are currently streaming, binging, reading, and playing, if you what is first up on your list? I mean, well, first up on the list, because the order we're doing this and is TV shows, movies, video games, podcast that isn't ours if we and these are if we make it to them, books and maybe some things that we

can whip up. And of course all my TV show picks right now are gonna be anime because that's all I've been watching. Uh, and at first up on my list. You know, everyone is well aware how into gun play and gun dams I got, so of course some I'm gonna kick it off with one of the first. It's technically like the first Gundam series I've completed. It's like watching and completion and uh still probably my favorite, which is uh Iron Blooded Orphans, Mobile Suit Gundam. That's worth

picking out. And so the the the premise of this And if you don't know about Gundam at all, most Gundam, a lot of people think it's like, oh, big robots fighting, but a lot of Gundams are are the space operas that usually has to do with two kind of warring uh countries, Uh, usually colonies and like Earth or Earth and other type of like business conglomerates, and it's like all these deep stories about like a lot of these these usually someone caught in the middle of this war

who doesn't really want to be a part of this and and they and they can pilot a Gundam and usually that person is surprisingly really good at piloting a Gundam. And this one is no different. It's about this like band, this military band of people on Mars and they're all kind of child soldiers. And there's uh, there's in a

year like hundreds of year. Uh, in the war that ended hundreds a year ago, there was a special type of Gundam people use, which was like the Janni Vignada system, which would like kind of plug into your back, like the matrix and and so. But it's because of that, it's it's seen as very brutal, but that was the only way to pilot these like gundams that like ended

the war. And two um, in order to like make money for their family, these poor kids on this planet will get that system brutally installed it in them at a young age and like do kind of grunt grunt

work for this military company. And um, there's this this daughter of someone from like the the the colonies who wants to get workers rights to Earth and mars and and have everyone have a fair share, and she was she was essentially supposed to be like murdered and used as a martyr and to win over this uh this like benefactors um like kind of like they to kind

of get them on their side. But it goes awry when this one one kid, Mika and his best buddy, um, but they're working there and they have a Gundam in the backup and they use it to defend themselves and it kind of snowballs from from there. It's really good. So wait, did you mention where people can watch it? Yeah, it's on Netflix. It's also on Hulu, and it's on

a crunchy roll. Uh, so you can watch it. And here's the tip I found out on Netflix, And you can use this either way you want, because typically crunchy roll is only subs and I and I know, um, Hulu, it'll it'll list them both separately. But on Netflix you have to specifically pick language and subtitles if you want to choose between subs or dubs. Because I was watching Jojo dubbed and I wanted to watch it subbed and I didn't know I had to go in and change

it so, and that was on Hulu. You were watching Jojo. I watched, Uh, that's on Netflix. Netflix you have to go in and manually selected. Hulu will separately list each episode, and it's like really smart, where if it starts, it'll go down, like if you start watching dubbed, it'll keep skipping the extra episode and only go through dub and

vice versa. That's so fascinating because on my Netflix, I didn't even know that there was a dubbed version, like because I was Joe subbed and I didn't know, and people are like, don't worry about it. That was you. I think you're like, now you're good. But I didn't even realize. So I just was watching it, which I actually, you know, I'm a fan of both. I'm definitely constantly I just love I think I'm not even gonna go

down the road. Um, but what I will say is the thing that I love to love about subbed is that it really truly forces me to be off my phone, like even even foreign films. I think it's like such a great way because you know, inevitably it's like I'm gonna pick up my phone and check it, or I have this text from so and so, and then it's like, but you can't miss you can't miss any of these subtitles.

So that's one of my favorite things about watching watching Subdisit like completely transforms you into, uh, into that world for the half an hour to hour that you're watching it, because I just like, don't even pick up my phone. Yeah, um for me. My TV show that I'm going to recommend is something that I feel a lot of people slept on. I think I've recommended this like months ago.

But now that you have extra time and you're trying to speaking of subbed for people that don't speak Spanish would be los of Spookies and that is on HBO. H So you know, you know, I know you have a friend that has a log in. Uh, they probably are also doing some promo stuff. I imagine um giving people like you know a week or or whatever for free. Uh, so you can definitely knock it out in a week.

It's like a short series, but it is about these group of friends in Mexico who essentially start up a horror business to scare people, and they're paid to scare people. So it'll be like think of like you're trying to get your ex out of your house or um house on Hunted Hill style, like you're trying to scare a bunch of your friends, like a bunch of people who

think that they're winning money or whatever. So they're essentially hired by like neighbors, and their name gets out there and so they build these elaborate pranks and um special effects to scare people. And it's a comedy, so it's like super humorous. Um, this kind of like scare comedy. But highly recommend. I know a lot of people slept on it and they shouldn't have. It's so good. Um, please don't let the subtitles you know, the fact that it's not an English scary away. Uh I just realized

I said scary away um pun intended. But yeah, it's it's amazing. I love it. I love the cast, and I definitely hope people check it out. Definitely check out more things that aren't necessarily in your native language, um, because there's a lot of great art that's being made right now that's not in English. Yeah that's that. That's not actually scary, it's all well. Yeah, I definitely want to check it out because it seems super funny and everyone and it seems super funny, so I'll watch it

even if it if it was scary. Look, I I will sit through scary things if I think it's worth it. You know. Yeah, what is next up on your on your TV list? You have another one for peeps? Oh yeah, you know, you know I got another one. I can't. I can't recommend that enough. And I it's my duty if I'm recommending shows to sit and binge through and watch. Um and I'll do a bonus live action show too, because I feel like, just in case people are like only anime. But for the second one, it's going to

be going on log on. Uh you know my favorite anime of all time? Uh maybe it is tied with dB Z. I won't say. But everyone requires a list, but I'm gonna start putting them together because they both

hit different notes for me. And I think it's one of the things that it's it's one of the things where it's like, I'm trying to think of a good analogy because because to me, like comparing like foundational anime, like the early anime that all anime builds off of, it never feels fair to try and list those because like it's un you know, it's unlisted like if if if I'm I don't know, Uh, it's anyway gore and log on if you don't know's It follows Simon this

uh boy who's who? The human race is trapped underground and they have to dig deeper underground for more space because they know they can't go to the surface. They know there are monsters up there who will who will attack them. They don't know why, but all they know is that they must go down. They must go down. And Simon's good friend Commina thinks that they should be

on the surface. He's been up there once with his dad, or so he says, and and they they really want to reach it, but the like the essentially the chief of their village is not allowing them to go to the surface until a tragedy strikes when a scary monster lands in the middle of their village and they have no choice but to face off against it. And luckily for them, Simon just made an awesome discovery while he was digging. So I'll leave it there. I'll leave it there.

It just it's one of those and because I rewatched it recently, and when you watch it, it's just because you know anime love a grand a grand exposition. They loved his like, do a lot of set up, do a lot of groundwork, and then things get good like episode three and four and Goren log on. From episode one, it's like, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go. And then it's like it just really it

really ramps up so quickly. So I think that's an anime that from episode one you'll be hooked and you'll just get into it and write it. And my regular show that I will say a sick note with Rupert Grint and uh and Nick Frost from from the the what what is the that ice cream called the cornetto the Cornetto trilogy. Yeah, that's that's yeah, so they that's the like uh name for like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and World's End is the Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy.

But Nick Frost, who all usually plays his like dumb buddy, is in there as a dumb doctor and it's so hilarious. Uh, definitely worth checking out. Um, and it's a it's fairly it's a fairly easy watch. It's some British humor with you and I really enjoyed it. Oh. Um. Up next for me is staying in the horror themed. Also staying in the sub titled theme would be Mary Anne who it's really funny. It's on Netflix, um and Joel, our producer,

actually came over and watched it with me. Before that was pre Co pre Corona, and this one is actually scary iffy. I think this would actually scare you because parts of it scared me. And if you scare me, did a pretty good job. Also very difficult for horror shows to scare people. It's normally movies. UM. So this show is about an author, bestselling author who announces she's done writing horror and she has an unnerving visit from an old friend that draws her back to her hometown.

So essentially kind of plays on some of those UM popular trope of like your writing, you're writing a book and it's coming to life. Um. And so she's kind of haunted she wrote this essential demon who, now that she's not writing it anymore, comes to like find her to make her continue to write. Um. It is very terrifying in many parts, which I was so impressed with it is. I would say it's a slow burn, but honestly, like straight off the bat. They're scary stuff that I'm like,

WHOA caught me? Um? And then it has you know, a build up with some of her friends. Um. I believe it's in French. Um. Great again, cannot recommend enough. I really love finding these quote unquote foreign properties uh that are just spectacular. Um. And really hope more people, like I said, are venturing out. Um. But this one, if you're a horror baby, heavily recommend. Um. And again it got me in parts so that a little bloody,

little bloody in some place is very clever. Um has a lot of humor in it too, as a lot of horror does. We talked about how horror and comedy intersects so much, but this is definitely more of a drama and just gorgeous too. Where they shot it was kind of this. Um, what's the cult not a whale? Um? Oh, I'm forgetting the name when it's like a harbor town essentially, there's a different word for that, you know what. I know what you're talking about. Okay, I'm like a ship village, um,

a shipping doc place. Anyways, it's a very fast yeah harbor is it a harbor? City, a port whatever. I get what you mean. We all know, you know we're not getting as much caffeine, you know, brush up on some of your get break your dual linguo out, brush up on somewhat learning a language when you're here in quarantine. Um, anyways, it is, It is great. It is really great. Uh So check out Marianne. It is on Netflix. So those

are our favorite TV shows that were binging. But if what is a movie that you're recommending to people to check out, Well, this is gonna be a nice little nerdificent Uh who shot a crossover? I mean nice foreshadowing to another one that may be coming soon. But we watched. Um it's never rarely sometimes always. It's an indie feature film directed by Eliza Hitman and also written by her as well. And it's a it's a it was a extremely beautiful story. It's out you can it was since

theaters are closed right now. You can buy releases via Hulu and other streaming apps for twenty bucks so you can watch them at home. And it's about a a teenager in Pennsylvania, she's seventeen years old, who has a pregnancy and she wants an abortion. But in Pennsylvania, you need a parents consent to do it, so she uh and her cousin end up deciding to go to New York to try and get it done so because you

can do it without your parents consent. And it's like one thing leads to another and it's a it's a it's a drama, harrowing drama that kind of just shows you just the bs that uh women just deal with on a daily from the just abortion stuff to just dealing with men. It really just highlights it on all levels.

Uh you know, I'm I was a dumb man who Washington was like whoa and then uh we had we um on who shot to you know, we had a Drea and Ann Friedman on with Drea and Drea and Anne were crying and I was like this, we know what it was. And just was like, yeah, no, that's what I yeah, you know like this, I'm a dumb idiot, but I'm more than sure this is all the bs you have to put up with. And uh it was two unknowns who lead it, and they they really knocked

it out the park. It was truly, uh, you know, beautiful. That's so good. I'm gonna have to check that out. Yeah, it was a good time. I was gonna say, my movie recommendation is totally different than that. Let's know, I have two, so I have one that is kind of similar but in a different vein. So actually, my second one I was going to recommend is an old d that is one of my favorite movies of all time. And if you ever saw this movie, you probably saw

it like twenty years ago and forgot about it. But one of my favorite movies that I watched last week was Fools Russian. Oh yeah, that's a class Filmahiak and Matthew Perry. It is the quintessential rom com, but it really makes me feel good, like I love I mean afterwards, I felt great, like I was having a really bad day, I was going through some personal stuff I put it on. It's not one of those rom coms, in my opinion, that makes you feel bad about yourself, especially if you're single,

because I'm single. It's actually one of those that's like, oh wow, like there is a future, there is hope. Um. So, Fools Russian is essentially about a couple that has a one night stand and Alex Whitman, who's Matthew Perry who lives in New York, finds out that Selmahiak who's in Las Vegas where he's working temporarily, he's like opening a nightclub there. He finds out that she's pregnant. Um. Despite being a terminal bachelor, Alex is drawn to Isabelle and

they get married. Um, and their families are definitely not okay with it. So her family being Mexican, his family, I don't know from like Williams Burd Virginia or something like that. They're just like a clash of cultures. But the two of them really love each other so much. Um.

But again they're coming from like different places. Who's going to move and like it's just it actually in my opinion, because a lot of people were like I was scared to watch this to see if it holds up well because there are some I wouldn't say there's Mexican stereo. I guess there is stereotypes in some regard, but like to me, I'm like, this was literally my family, so it doesn't feel like a stereotype um to me. And

I think it was handled really well. Uh. And I think the opinions obviously, like his family being white, like doesn't understand some of their stuff, and I think that that's accurate. I don't even though it's racist, I would say, like, that's an accurate portrayal, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. So I would watch it from that lens. In no way did I feel like they were making fun of her culture. If anything, it was the white

people that were making fun. But she was very like I thought it represented our culture really well, like how beautiful a lot of it is, and and so. But I think the when you have people from different cultures coming together, I think that there is going to be some especially back then, like not understanding of it. However, I think it's really, to me really beautiful. Selmahac of course is wow, um just peaks. I mean I would say she's peaked semahayak now like she literally has not aged, um,

but just gorgeous. And and I really loved seeing these two people coming together from different places. So in my opinion, it held up. Um. I think there was maybe one singular joke that I didn't even that might have been like a queer joke, but still wasn't really even in my opinion, um anything at all. Um. I think it was just hinting at two guys possibly being in a relationship. But um, even then, like it didn't even feel necessarily

out of place. Um, so yeah, that's what I would recommend as a feel good movie and kind of on the same lines as an an unexpected pregnancy And uh how even if your family doesn't agree with who you're marrying, that love, you know, can bring people together. So I really liked that. Yeah, that that seems like a real good, uh movie to just kind of pair with with mine. You know, you I see you watch the heavy version first and then like, you know, take is Fool's Russian

a drama too? Or is it like a kind Well, I mean it's so peak. Here's the thing. Because I watched Liar Liar the night before, and then I watched this, uh you know that one with Jim Carrey, this one with Matthew Perry. I'm like, oh, this is peak Matthew

Perry nineties comedy. That was peak Jim Carrey nineties comedy there, and they're so funny, Like it's just you know, watching it, it reminded me of like that era of like Seinfeld and Friends and um, but you know, I think I'm in the minority, I would say, but it is fascinating if he's seen, Like the reviews of it are mainly from white people, I think, trying to stand up for us. It's fine, fascinating. It's like Latina and she felt and I'm like, this is so funny because like so this

really was like felt. My family also, I'm going to add, loved this movie when it came out. Um, I think a lot of us are just like grabbing onto whatever representation we have. Um, And it wasn't like these people were in some breros with huge mustaches and like writing never there was a scene but Matthew Perry was writing a donkey. It wasn't them, and they were like legit

in rural Mexico. So but it wasn't like, in my opinion, it's more of like look at these look at how some white people are racist, and like look at this beautiful culture and this woman, and like that's how it came across to me, not necessarily like cure all these stereotypes, because I like, my family is Catholic, My family does

do this. My family doesn't even side. My mom does think that this upen for like you know, I'm like, this is my family and so I actually loved it, but um, everyone's allowed to feel how they feel about it. I recommend you check it out and make the decision for yourself. Yeah, oh my gosh. Yeah, that's that's a that's a really good pick. I like that a lot.

Um I think something fun and like I'm going to suggest and stay on brand from my pick is as everyone has known online and has commented on, I have I before h this past few weeks, the only Hio MEA's hockey film I've seen has been Ponio and now it has been Ponio kikiS Delivery Service and my neighbor Totoro. So this uh yeah so this uh, this suggestion goes for all those parents there. Naomi really liked my neighbor Totoro.

She she i. I thought she was like she would be afraid because you know, like it's really detailed when he like takes a deep breath and his teeth are so huge. But like she really enjoyed um that movie. Like when we got done, she asked to see another Miyazaki film and what's cool, to which I didn't even really notice at first, as a lot of Miyazaki films are like led by Little Girls. Uh So, you know it's a it's a great Uh, it's a great one to go through. I love that. I'm gonna I'm gonna

do a deep dive of his stuff too. Yeah, I haven't watched in forever. Um, we are gonna say, we're gonna take a really quick break and then we're gonna hop back into the rest of our rex right after this and we are back. So for my second movie, also Whitehearted. Um. I can't remember if I recommended this back when pre Court, pre Corona, Um, but Onward I got to see Onward at a screening, back when we're allowed to all be in close proximity to each other.

It is on Disney Plus if you have that. I mean you can buy it, but I think on like iTunes or whatever. But it is on Disney Plus for free if you have that. It is, uh the Elf movie from Disney that's starring animated, that's starring Tom Hall, Tom Holland and Chris Pratt. I really didn't think that I would love this movie as much as I did. It was so heartwarming. Uh So I watched it again last night. It was a second time I saw it. It's about two teenage elf brothers who embark on a

magical quest to spend one more day with their late father. UM. So it's kind of like set in a world where very similar to ours, where it was like it used to be magical, and now everybody just drives cars and like orders postmates and like whatever. Like they you know, kind of don't use their magic anymore. Nobody really flies anymore. Nobody really you know. It's just kind of like now they're on their iPhones. And so it's these two brothers,

their dad passed away a long time ago. It is in the traandition of having losing a parent, although you don't see it, um losing a Disney parent. UM. But it is very beautiful. It's funny for I would say like three or fourths of the film and then like one couple of bits that are are you know, heartbreaking, Lee great though, it's like so beautiful to me. I made Mark watch it. He lost his dad to cancer a long time ago, but he like loves films like that,

and he was like, I can't wait to cry. But it was like a really beautiful UM film kind of about these two brothers setting on a quite definitely very d and D heavy like DP. You know, I think they wanted to make a movie about D and D, like real life D and D. UM. So that's what Chris Pratt's character is super into. UM. But I can't recommend it enough as far as being like a really

beautiful film. That was surprising to me. I really thought it was just like, oh, here's these like elf kids or whatever, Tom Holland, Chris Pratt or and everything, and then I was really really surprised by how great it was. So yeah, that was solid. I like that a lot. So now we have video games. What are your rex, Iffie? Oh boy, this is This has been the most video

game release dents a couple of weeks and honestly perfect. Uh. So you know you everyone listening knows by now Animal Crossing dropped, and right about now is a good time to come in or return to be because all your friends who really went hard are are stocked up with stuff and can really supply your island with all the things you need. I have lots of friends who have been time traveling in their game, and so they're like, they have stuff that we're probably not going to see

for a while. Uh. And then another release that came out that was really close to me. Is the Final Fantasy seven remake just came out not too long ago, and that game is fun. And if you don't know, the Final Fantasy seven uh game is being remade and they're splitting it up into three the disc um Maybe no one really knows how they're splitting it up, but they're splitting up the games into different releases, and every

release is going to be a full game. So the first disc is out, which is up until you leave the city of Midgir or Midgar, and it's and it's gorgeous, it's beautiful. It's a nostalgia burst. I wept when the opening played because it was weird, because you know, it was on Superpunch. We saw a tangent a streamer. He was weeping from the from the the song at the beginning, and like I was like, oh man, I'm jealous he's getting to play and whatever. Like that's cool, but it

it is like thing else. It's like because I've played this game, and this is one of my favorite games of all time. I've played this game and many different times of my life. I played it when it first came out in like then, I played I played it again senior year. Then I played it again in my like early early twenties on my friend here I bought a copy on his PS three account. Then that PS

three account went away. Then I played it a little bit on my own, and then I played it again recently on Switch so hearing the music and seeing the this newly perfectly rendered version of this kind of blocky town that I've seen it just it was like all those moments smacked me in the face at one time,

like you just literally just go. You just it was It's like seeing your life flash before your eyes, but these moments and then you think of everything you were going through and the person you were who you are now. It was just like an emotional overload and I could not control it. I was gonna say, because you're reminding me of likeness aside from Animal Crossing, which yes, everyone and their mom is playing also their moms Um they're too another game, which like, uh, this is not new,

I thought. When you were talking about Beautiful, I was like reminded of um. Of course, one of my favorite things that came out this past year, which is Dragon moll Z Cacaratum. I don't know if you got a chance to play it ever if you But it is so gorgeous. It's just so pretty, and I know some people that like never picked it up, like even DBZ people, So I like heavily recommend very nostalgic. You get to

like relive all those epic events that happened. You know, it's it's It can be repetitive, I would say, but still super beautiful, really easy. You know, I'm not like a huge gamer at all, and I'm still able to to um play and have fun with it. People have been asking when they're gonna do a drag moall z Vegeta,

which listen here. I think that that is not not because I'm obsessed with Vegeta, but I actually think his storyline is super fascinating, and I really hope that they do more stuff in the pre Goku like the saying saga you know before him. I think that's really cool. I don't know if they're planning to do it, but I also think that they could do a series in there. A lot of people have been writing me that they're rewatching super which I think is super cool. If you haven't,

there's really fascinating. But there's a lot of DVZ and super people that didn't actually watch the original dragon Ball run. Um, that's because it came over here kind of after, like it got dubbed after in my opinion, like after DBZ like two Nami show DVZ, but it didn't show dragon

Ball first. So a lot of you, if you grew up like me a millennial UM during that time, like that was what you were introduced to first, So worth diving back into speaking of, Like when you were talking about anime, I was going to say an anime that you and a bunch of other people kind of turned me onto was Joe Joe, which fascinating because a lot of our friends have said it they got turned off the first season. I thought it was like too slow or whatever. They couldn't get into it. And I and

my pride and prejudice. But like love, I mean, I think that's so cool. I haven't like I'm sure there's other anime that's like that, but like me having this, like um gosh, what even time was that? But like having this like royalty set back during that time, very like some of the UM some of the outfits are very Sherlock Holmes ESK and just like I was in like a little bit of a romance. I was like super into it. So and I guess my guy friends were like, yeah, I couldn't get into it. I'm like, oh,

well I definitely could. Um so. Yeah. And then another thing that I wanted to say that's game related technically video game but not um is a lot of people are hopping onto Zoom to do quip lash with their friends. Um So. I'm sure a lot of our listeners have been doing that with friends, but even my brother and my sister in law who are like not really into that world, um so that they did quip Lash with their which is from jack Box Games. Jack Box Games. Um really easy to do. I actually did it with

the etc. Guys the internet today, guys live. We did a live stream and got to play. Um So. If you're like I don't really have access to any gaming consoles or anything like, it's something you can do on your phone, um or your computer. A lot of fun and definitely very great to be able to game with friends while this is going on. Oh yeah, now it's and it's such a fun game to play with friends,

because it really is. It's just like any like apples to apples cards against Humanity where you're not even necessarily making the best joke, but the joke you know your friends are gonna think it's so silly, so it might not even necessarily be like extremely funny, but it'll like rely on an inside joke. And then everyone picked yours. Um, you know what ours was for our stream because we

let people in the chat play too. It was all Tiger King answers, and I was just like wow, I was like the only person that wasn't doing Tiger King stuff. But it was funny because it was like everyone thought they were being clever and then there would be like five answers from Tiger King um about Carol Baskins. So moving on, I have actually kept super entertained listening to podcasts.

In fact, it's just shown how important they are because I would be going crazy if I didn't have somebody to listen to while I'm cleaning and cooking and all of that. Uh So, if you what is uh one of your favorite podcasts that you are not involved with? You know, I think you know. I always got to shout out the guys at part time Genius. That's always a fun It's a quick bite of some like fun interesting facts and it's definitely a really really really really

really good listen. So that's that's my my pick, always and forever. When I asked about the Pods, Yeah, so mine is reply all. If I could listen to them every single day, I would. It is Alex Goldman and p J Vote. It is a show about the Internet, but it is so much more than that. They really you know, when they started to when they started out, they would tackle things that were like trending online and kind of explain it to their boss, which I love.

They have a section called yes Yes, No that myself and our friend Neil Radford are obsessed with because it would be like a tweet and it would like you would have to live on Twitter essentially to know what that tweet meant um, and their boss would be like, I, you know, like what what is this about Pepe? Or what is this about you know, like things that your mom wouldn't know if because she's not online, so they

would explain it to him. But they also do tech support stuff, like one of an episode was about this woman who kept having people show up at her house saying that she stole their iPhone because I guess like for some reason when they would look up iPhone locator, it was like under her house, UM, trying to get

her to fix that. But my recent, most favorite, highly recommend episode if you're trying to get into this show is one that they came out with last month called the Case of the Missing Hit and it's about this guy who heard this hit song on the radio that nobody remembers, and he would sing it for people and like they even got people for like the Rolling Stones and like whatever that We're like, this is clearly it sounded like a song that you would hear, but nobody

that they talked to remember it was just it was almost like the Bernstein Bernstein like thing, and you're listening to it, like do I remember this song? I feel like I've heard this, and yet everybody in the industry that they talked to didn't know it, and so it's you're like on the edge of your seat trying to figure out like what this thing is. And it was I think one of their highest rated episodes. UM, very addicting. I love them. I wish that they could they used

to do it weekly, I think their show UM. And then because they're tracking down cases like this Uh, I think they're like bi weekly now, but it is my favorite, one of my favorite podcasts. It's it's amazing. They also thought I was gonna say one other one. If you would love this, I have to send it to you.

The scam calls the people who try to get like your grandparents to give them money by saying like, oh, you have a virus or whatever on your comp uter, you need to share a screen with me, and like, unfortunately senior citizens and older folks are more susceptible to that. Um. They tracked them down, found their office. It was like the craziest year again, like on the edge of your seat listening to the show. I was just like what um and um, oh, I don't want to give away that,

but so fascinating. I'll tell you about it after the thing. Definitely listen to it. Um, that is a great podcast to keep you company. Yeah, that's sounds solid. Um. We have to take another really quick break and then we're gonna hop back in with the rest of our REX right after this, give them REX and we are back. If you haven't been reading anything or you have any books you want to recommend to the folks, Oh, you know the brand is still continuing even into this section.

You may not know this, but manga has gone digital and you can actually go to viz dot com and it's like super duper cheap. I think it's like two three bucks a month, and you can read Demon Slayer, My hero Academia and all that stuff completely translated and pretty well updated. Uh, and you can get the shown in jumps all of that and at that Viz dot com and you can just read it all. You can read Jojo online as well and all that all that different stuff. So uh, you may not know it, but

yep that you can. You can e E manga's Oh my books that I was going to recommend one of them is uh. I know there's a lot of discourse right now about not forcing yourself to be creative, which I agree with. I also think if you are a creator, you start to get super anty if you're not creating. That's how I feel. So one thing I would like to say to everyone is to just accept the time that you've spent away from creating as like time that

was necessary that you needed. You don't need to feel guilty about it, you don't need to feel bad about it. It was like there's so much trauma going on in the world, and if you stepped away from your craft, even if you were like today, I'm going to write and I'm going to do it, and you didn't do it. A thing that helps me with therapy and the therapy work I've done is to just accept, you know what, Clearly my brain wasn't I didn't want to do that that day. Clearly that was time that I needed away

from it, or I would have done it. So that is helpful to me. UM And another book when I don't feel like creating or I want to create but I need a little push, is big magic. I feel I might have recommended this last year on this podcast. I have read this book. I have highlighted through this book. I have bought this book on Audible. I have listened to this book multiple times. I own every version of this book. UM. It is by Liz Gilbert. She wrote Eat, Pray, Love, UM.

But this is about how to be creative when you don't feel like being creative, and it's just so really again like she also gives you permission to feel okay with the fact that you're not creating, like that's a part of the process and then how do you go from there? Um, it's a I really love it. Uh. So if you have audible credits or you know, I would, I would recommend that. But if you're gonna go ahead and order the book, UM, that way too. I've highlighted

it so much. And then another book that's totally different. A friend recommended this to me, and Uh, this is so funny because I did the same thing, Iffy. I bought the book, um, and then I couldn't put it down, so I bought it on audible so I could listen to it. This was pre Corona, but I could listen to it in the car, and I could listen to it when I was cleaning because I didn't want to stop reading it. So I this is like a history

with me. Two different of giving the author, which is great because they deserve it, like giving the author to to buying it twice from them. Um. But that book is called The Knicks. It's by Nathan Hill. It is am I guess it came out a couple of years ago. Um. It is so addicting. It's about a mother and a son, and it tells it from the viewpoint of current day and of her current day. Son's perspective and then the

mom's perspective. I believe in the sixties. Um, it's political, but not political, like it has to do with protesters, but not I would say it's not like political where it's talking about things that are specific to like right now. But it is a really touching It's like the son who I think blames his mom for things, but then you get to go back in the past and see why she did things the way that she did. And

I find that really fascinating. Um, especially like just not understanding the decisions that our parents make sometimes and like if we could be in their shoes. Um. Anyways, I was very addicted to it, and I highly recommend It's called The Knicks. That's yeah, that's super dope. I'm for for my second book. I'm just gonna double down because I decided to go and look into the subscription to

see what I have. Because what it is is Viz does a digital subscription to shoonn and Jump and it's not only the current running stuff, but they have all of dragon Ball, dragon Ball z u yoh. Then they have dragon Ball full color freezer arc which your boy vegeta right here on the cover you yoh if you're into it. Time killers. Uh. And then they have like some side stories that we always hear about but never read, like Jacko the Galactic patrol Man. They have Yamcha that

time I was reincarnated what really a dragon ball? That time I got reincarnated as Yamcha. So they got all the side like little stories that you can read Joe Joe parts one, two, and three. So it's a it's an extensive collection that she that's it is only like two or three bucks a month and you can read all of this. Uh. And they have four I see it right here. Diamond is Unbreakable. Oh my gosh. Yeah, uh yeah, this is this is wild. Um. You need

to you need to do it. And then the very new Death Note Special Edition one shot that came out this year is available there too. Get on it. It's it's it's great. Oh my gosh, I'm gonna have to check that out. I'm still looking through the d C. Um. You know we got that like d C. I think we dropped a code for everyone to check out d C Universe. There's so much I want to get through on that too. All these comics like Green Lantern and of course my my wonder woman, um, but also hardy,

just all of it. Um. Finally, if he I don't know if you had anything that you were cooking up or something you wanted to recommend to the peeps. Well, you know, I'm definitely gonna recommend something but I can't take credit for. And I was talking to her about it and uh and she she told me this is actually her mom's little recipe. But this week, uh, my friend Lisa Wallin made a like a shrimp salad that I and she put the recipe on her Twitter too, and it looks so bomb that I can't well, I'm

definitely gonna make it uh myself. And the it is pretty it's it's pretty simple. She's just said boiled shrimp and corn and old bay seasoning water, bay leaves and lemon juice drained of peel, combined with ingredients below. And it was mint s, garlic, tabasco, black peppered uh grinded de gen must there and parsley flakes and that definitely looks like a vat of butter and uh yeah, and the finished product looks so slapping, Danny, so slapping you

like tomatoes onions and some peppers in there. I'm losing my mind. Uh, it looks great. I The only thing I don't look forward to is peeling shrip. That's always such a pain. But I will oh she uh oh, she liked straight up with the full recipe, so we'll put that uh uh footnotes. But yeah, the full recipe was like eight cups of water, half a cup of lemon juice, one tablespoons, like the whole Dane. Okay, we all cook it, y'all. I love shrimp so much. Yes,

me too. Mine is uh mine, which is Mexican meatball soup, especially because it's been raining. Um. Not too difficult to make. There's a couple of different you know, um ways that people make it as far as like spice level and for the full spice um and the veggies and stuff that's in there. Very hardy, very delicious, super great. Um. If it's cold where you are, it's been cold where we are. But yeah, my dad used to make it when it would uh, when it was like rainy and stuff,

we would. I guess it's our are like you know how people in them have like clam chowder that was ours. So um, it's great and if you forgot about it or you never had it, highly recommend looking up again. It's not too difficult to make and it's delicious. That is our rex. Yeah, that's our rex. Uh. You know, give us some rex. Tell us what you're listening to, what you're watching and uh and then then will you know, well we might we might watch you too, or we'll

talk about how we saw it too. Either way, we ain't got nothing better to do. Definitely, stay safe, everyone be kind to each other. A lot of people are, you know, I see getting in like extra fights that aren't necessary, just because everyone's cooped up and on edge. So remember, you know, when people tweet at you, unless they're awful and racist, um, then try to come at

it from you know, compassion. Everybody is dealing with a lot right now, so I think sometimes I see some of my friends like kind of just reading into things that are not necessary. And everyone just be a little bit kinder to each other while this is going on. Yes, please please, please please we uh you know, it's everyone's going through a lot, so just be patientate each other. Uh, you know, definitely give give folks the benefit of the doubt.

Don't don't don't really just jump to anger and let's let's make it through it, and uh, like we always say, stay nerdy m hm.
