Hey, everyone, how you're doing? Huh? How you feeling? It's another episode of Nerdificent And if you heard, if you read, you read the title, then you already know what it's about. And if you if you haven't and you went in blind, let me let me give you a little taste. Uh. Sugumi Ohba and Takashi Abada's Death Note hit the Pages Have Shown and Jump in December of two thousand and
three and became an instant sensation. The manga industry keeps the identities of the writing duo a secret, even after nearly twenty years of popularity with twelve volumes in a single season of an anime. Fans have been begging for new original material from the franchise for years. Earlier this year, they got it. Today we're talking Death Note with the anime expert coming off the heels of Funnimation con host extraordinaire. You're gonna see her on TV. You're gonna read her right,
and you're gonna know her everywhere. My Nigerian c ST. How you doing? Hi, I'm doing great. I like that. That's that's okay, let's go. Oh yeah, I'm feeling I'm feeling all that Nigerian energy. I just watched Hamilton's last night and we had a bro in there. I was like, oh, who was our bro? Oh, you didn't know. He's the one who was with Madison the Big I forget his name. Yes,
he's Nigerian. Yeah that's I know. Now. When I first heard the musical the soundtrack, I thought it was a white dude, and then I watched and it's a black dude. And now I'm learning that he's a Nigernigerian. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's uh, let me see, I got oh no that one, Okay, but he goes by Oak, which is probably the hardest nickname anyone can have, you know, like a treat. Yeah, but yeah he's Nigerian. And I'm blown away because, like
is theater credits are? And if he knew the fight I had to fight to get my dad to let me act. I'm like, who who? But I'm still fighting like this, how did he tell me your secret? Oak? For you to have this long laundry list of theater experience? Wo, we love to see it, Yeah, we truly do. But yeah, speaking of which, while we're on the subject, what are you nerding about? Nerding out about this? Week, What am
I nerning out? So this week I watched so obviously I just you know, we did Fundimation con so I got to see the first two episodes of fire Force season two. So that's that's my girl right now. Like fire Force is literally everything to me right now. And then and then speaking of Nigerian's hello, we got our boy Oguon Montgomery. Who Yeah, I know, mom a mama, hit up Zeno and be like, let me let me
tell you something real quick. I'm these notes. First, you're gonna sit down with me, get a little bit of an accident in there, and like, yeah, I can eat some food food though I send him some more more like eat on that first. I'm gonna before his next recording. Oh my gosh, it's so funny because, um, you're you're
talking about fire Force. I just finally saw pro Mayre and I was watching it with Lisa Lisa wallin Friend of the Pod, uh Kawaii five ozone, and she kept saying, this is basically fire Force, this is very similar to fire Force, and I didn't, Oh, oh my gosh, you know it's you know, studio trigger already. Yeah, yeah, look, I'll even I'll even drop off because I think I'm gonna be in with your your hood because I need
to drop this one piece off to Crystal. But I'll drop my blue ray off so you can keep it. It's s gorgeous. Yeah, I don't actually, I don't think me and Crystal live in the same really. I mean, y'all, y'all, Okay, we'll talk. We'll talk off. I ain't gonna dock you on the thing, but based on what she said, you're well you did move. Okay, all right, we'll talk, but I'll drop it off to you because I need everyone
to see it because I'm a studio trigger head. But I mean, this is the perfect kind of combo to let us jump up into death note which I knew you watched it. I was. I was doing I do a dumb thing where I asked questions I know the answer to because I remember geeking out on the on Twitter when they did the news like they did a new manga chapter, right, yeah, that which is like, how are you going teeth like that? How you like you don't leave us hanging for like ten years and just
give you a one shot. I just give us a little one shot, you know, I mean, oh yeah, I mean I didn't read it. I did not read it. Yeah, yeah, I got Look it's it's back here. I got a huge backlog of stuff. I look. I surprised Lisa didn't like you know, well, that's why I'm watching killer kill right now, because because the time she was like, you just need a watch kill kill you, because I guess there's a lot of likes to kill a kill in pro maer So she's got you on quality that look.
I would look, I'm working through so many That's why you know, when Christmas asked me about one piece, I'm like, I got getting tom I gotta bust out through and then I'm rewatching big Oh, I already did my gore in London, and watch it and run with the Wind is back there too. I got the box set of that. Wait did you did you start one piece? Or like I did not yet, but you're returning you're returning it
to her. But you didn't start. No, no, no, no, no no no no, I no I when we went you were here with me when we saw gold together. You know how they gave us that one piece blu ray this joint right here, Um, I have to so I'm giving Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm not. I'm gonna go through One Piece because I used to watch it religions religiously um back when it was on like the two Namine Adult Swim, but then I then I stopped. So it's so I'm pretty like I know most everything,
but it's like very early stuff. So that's why I'm like, I know I'm gonna get there. But it's nine hundred and twenty eight episodes is daunting. Yeah, I mean it's gonna be going off. I see it lasting for like another three years, so don't even worry. Don't like that anime is not going nowhere. Yeah you see. I mean why when you get to nine, you might as well be like, we own this train till they tell you One Piece. Fans are going to be fifty sixty still
wondering if Lucy's about to become king. Okay, So so let's jump into the story of of of Death Note, and you know, it's it's a story that I think even if you if you're an anime fan, you know of Death not Death Note, whether you watched or not. It's just it's one of those things. It's it's it's on the mount rushmore of animes with your dbzs, your Sailor Moons. I think Death Note is definitely one of the newer ones that are just on there, that are
in the zeitgeys. You don't have to really explain the premise, but for those who may not know, a high school student discovers a supernatural notebook that has deadly powers. He can kill anyone he wishes simply by inscribing their name within its pages. Intassicated with his new power, he begins to eliminate those he deems unworthy of Light as he should. Yeah, it seems like, you know, the main character is kind of like an anti hero or you know, than the
then like someone who's good. Can you explain that more for the listeners. Yeah, so, Light Yeogamy is the main character, and he pretty much his thing is he thinks he's serving justice. He's serving like a big old heap of justice every time he commits a murder. Uh. And so basically I guess he's somewhat of an anti hero with a god complex. Yeah. So he thinks by limitating people that he, like you said, deems is unworthy, he's cleansing the world and making it a better place for everyone.
While also killing everyone. So um, but yeah, that's that's light man. Like, so who else does he deal with? You know, because he's being someone's trying to figure out who's doing this, right, Yeah, so he has to deal with well, at first he's dealing with the police force and like every country right as first he's dealing and then all of a sudden, everybody backs out and so he's just dealing with Japan. So so l L who
is this like mastermind, detective legendary. Um, he's the one that narrows down that Kira which is which is like Yakimi's nickname, that's like what the Internet basically has called him is Kira um, which also means killer. But like they've you know, transformed into Kira. But um, you've seen have you seen death? Note, I'm about to slap you want to you want to get that slap even harder? If it's right here, it's right, forget one piece, forget, it's right. Sick is right here. In is still in
the cellphone. I'm ready to I'm ready to jump in. I'm ready to jump in. And I was gonna jump in this weekend and then uh, just there was just lots of Fatherhood that went down. I'll say, because there there are some animals I'll watch in front of Naomi,
but there are something that I won't. And it was ever since one time I was watching Attack on Titan and it was when she was younger, and I thought, oh, she's like baby, she doesn't know and then like a titan like grab someone and watching her face, I was like, oh,
she knows exactly what's going on. So like so like the creepier anime stuff, I won't watch in front of her, but like, you know, i'll watch, Like I'll let her watch Gorn log On, I'll let her watch you know, I'll probably let her watch, you know, run the win with me. But Death note, I think it's just too hard and I have I don't watch Death not Yeah. Wow, I'm sick about that. Yeah, you gotta forget one piece for the end of the week. I'll probably bust through Death. Yeah.
It's like it's like seven episodes, I think, So it's right there. Whenever I hear that magic number of those twenty six runs, those go to the top of the list. That's why I was like, killing kill, Okay, twenty six, I'm gonna bust that out. I'm gonna bust that out.
And then I just pushed back these longer ones. But then also, you know, your weeklies come up, like I've been watching um Tower of God and so, which I think did the season just ended because the last episode felt like that was I don't know, I haven't started that one. Okay, now now it's time for me to tell you to jump no no, because death not his legendary legendary. But I feel like you're gonna be bopping the way because you know, who do you know about
the opening? Who does it? The Yeah? Some kids, great kids. Yeah. A friend of mine tag me and it on his instant story. He was like, you better watch this. I mean, that's what I'm saying you. You you out here sleeping on an anime that has a K pop band opening. I'm like, that's not the Chyenne I know, all right, I'm that's that's what we're doing this week. You watched
Definite this week, and I'll start Time of God. Okay, okay, but yeah, so l this like mastermind detective that everybody knows of who was like secretive for a while until the Cyre case. Basically, he I don't want to spoil it too much because I really want you to get like the Yeah, also for everyone to this is a episode we've done, you know, anime that run longer and you know cool, We'll spoil that because you probably this one everyone wants listening. It's activity meet me on Twitter please,
that's your homework. Yes, But anyways, to cut it short, l is basically his arch nemesis, and he's the one that's trying to take down Kira, and it just unfolds and gets crazy from there. That's all I'm going to say about that. I mean, and that, Yeah, that totally makes so much, so much sense of why like that kind of cat and mouse chase. That's like a classic you know convention, which makes uh, which makes this series
so like interesting, you know. Before we even dive even deeper in the series, I really do want to talk about the the duo that writes it, because Oba's real identity is a closely guarded secret. Like the the duo have cited Shotaro Ishnamoru, Fujiko Fuji uh Fujiko Fugio and Fujio Akasuta as like manga creators who they're heavily inspired and as stated by the profile, place at the beginning
of each death note. Manga Oba collects teacups and develops manga manga plots while holding their knees on a chair, similar to a habit of l so so like so, you know, I don't know like Oba, you know, holding it down, being very very sneaky, you know. I I like that, But what what do you know much about
the the oba and and that? Because I feel like it's hard to follow someone who is going under who who doesn't give their real identity, you know, I always do that, like the identity was a secret, but I didn't know any of this, Like I didn't know. Yeah, you know, anime fans, you can't keep anything from them too long. They're gonna try their hardest to like put
pieces together. I know, I know, Oh my gosh. I think that's like part of the reason why, like a cure to Yama was like okay, no more pictures, no meeting grades, no nothing like yeah. And then you also had like one who who who just went by one and kept his identity pretty much a secret until like he uh um he like he had like received a reward and that's when he kind of like kind of ran um ran as well. I mean I would do the same thing. And have you met, yes, absolutely, like
I would do the same exactly. Yeah, it's like, oh, we're we are so good. I mean, you know, even though the you know, we were we had a diskiddeing. I think this is the perfect time to, uh call for a break. But when we come back, we're going to dive into the manga and its development. Uh and then after that talk about the anime, and then just go into an open discussion of Death Note and other spinoffs for it. So see you right after this and
we're back. Welcome back to Nerdificent. We're here with Chen and Hulu, Colude good good, good, good friend, good good, good, all around anime expert. You. If you follow anime online, then you probably already know who I'm talking to. Let's let's be real. Let's be real. Probably not we get a naview with my three followers. If you went to if you went to Funny Con, you saw that facing You're like, who that? What all that hair? Let me go?
Let me go people, you know, let me go look at this this uh this Japan vlog video that you know, if he totally doesn't watch over and over jealously because he was planning on going to Japan right about now and then the pandemic. Hap it. You'll get your time. It's all right, a problem, You'll get your time. So I'm just like sick. I'm sick. Oh man. Look, cheyenneknew best. She's like, let me do it now, let me not wait,
oh man. So with the manga, the series had ended with a total of a hundred and eight chapters, and later the individual chapters were collected in the twelve separate tanko ban um. In April two thousand and five, Death Note was licensed for publication in North America by none other than Viz Media and which is one of the major kind of manga uh you know pubs, and the first English English volume was released on October t which is a great time to release Death Note. Spooky Spooky time.
And then in February two, a one shot special was released set two years after the manga's epilogue, and it sees the introduction of a new Kira and the reactions of the main characters in response to the copycats appearance. So did you read the manga and if you, if so, did you read it before or after you watched it. So I read the Death Note manga, but I only read half of I never got to the end of it. Um but I ended up skipping to the end just to like see like how different it was from the anime.
But yeah, I only read like a chunk of it. I never like finished. I ended up reading trying to get into it after I watched the anime because I was like, I want to see the differences, and like, uh, but yeah, that's that's kind of what I was doing with my hero as I was starting from the beginning, and people are like, why are you doing that. You're gonna have so long and there's so much ahead of the anime. But I was like, I want to see the differences. But then eventually I was like, actually, I
want to see what's happening. I want to know. If I want to know right exactly, I know I need to I need to pick that. I'm tired of this discourse that's going on about what's happening in the manga while we're waiting with our thumbs twiddling for them to animate the new season. I'm saying, wait a whole year,
oh man. Yeah. Uh. And for those who don't know I've talked about this on the pod before, viz specifically, I think it's like five bucks a month and you get access to all the Shoonen Jump Um manga so you can watch you know you. Death Note is also on there. You can watch you know dragon Ball, I mean, you can read dragon Ball, DBZ, my Hero uh, demon Hunter, Demon Slayer, Demon Hunter, de Hunter, Fire Force, like all the Shoonen Jump of mangas and all of probably like
the hottest ones right now you can read. And it's only five bucks a month, So definitely check that out. They need to give me a promo code and a free copy. Yeah, let me get it. Uh So. As of April two thousand and fifteen, Death Notes twelve Tackle
Bond volumes have sold over thirty million copies. The series is on is one of the most celebrated mangas of all time, and on i c V twos it's one of the top ten shown in Properties of Quartertooth two thousand nine, and Death Note was This was the third best selling manga property in North America, the series one
the two thousand period period. The series won the two thousand and eight Eagle Award for Favorite Manga as voted by UK fans, and in two thousand seven the Ministry of Culture of Japan occupies the tenth place among the
best Manga of all time place. It also receives several nominations, such as Best Manga at the two thousand sixth American Anime Awards, the two thousand seven to Zuko Sama Cultural Prize, and official Selection of the Anti goldmey Uh International Comics Festival two thousand dight and Obada was nominated for Best Penciler Inchor at the two thousand and eight Eisner Award. So this is a heavily decorated This is heavily decorated
issue like period. Yeah, just the the the design also, like I think that's one thing that people don't talk about if you go and look at the manga, just the design of just the different characters, the the shad,
the shading. We have some in the dock that we're looking at right now and some from the from the one shot, and it looks just too too too creepy and good like I know, it's it has that good horror field but like but like not like typical like like let's you see like today, but it's like I don't know it gives It's like I don't know, I don't know how to describe it, Like just something about
the arches, like DAWs drew me to it. I was like, you know, I might how to put this in my back pocket and stand, Yeah, yeah, there we Someone would say we have no choice but to but to stand, you know, so, but to stay. You really don't, you really honestly, and you would know that if you just watch the DVD like it's sitting here, it's waiting, it's waiting for me. I'm gonna crack this thing open. You know it's all right, I know where you live. It has to look visit as the viz on the back
that they want me. It's it's also this is like thick. I haven't opened it, but it's heavy, and I believe it's like one one DVD. You're gonna hear some live crinkles and crackling of me opening this up for the first time unboxing, because this has weight to it, and I want to know what that weight is, because it's the weight of the whole. Anime could be on its back, just a giant reuke just pops out of the box.
I'm like, oh, well I'm dead carrying the weight of all. Yeah, alright, because yeah, this has some weight I want to look into. Oh oh oh no, oh oh, I just found out that I've ever delivered it to me. This is definitely a oh yeah, it's creepy. It's it's shredd. I should have kept the plastic on, I should have kept the blossom. And no, it's it's it's heavy because it has five Okay that makes sense. Um oh no, okay, So this is the saddest day. It's you know, ups, you win
this time. This thing is crunched up. But I'm glad we did it live so that people can experience that, so people who know people know exactly what we what were doing here. So speaking of this destroyed piece of blue Ray that I just opened right now, uh, let's talk about the anime. So you know, how did it come across? Did you watch when it first started dropping or is this something kind of caught later? I caught it.
I don't know. I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this, but like I caught it a little bit later, so like I think I ended up watching it ten years ago. I want to say, yeah, like yeah, yeah, So it finished in two thousand and seven, right, and so I think that's I think that's when I started it.
I think that's when I started it, and I was watching it back then we didn't have like those streaming services, you know, when it wasn't airing on TV, So I was like, you know, finding ways we used to watch. You know, we love you Funny, we love you Crunchy Roll, but the ways we used to watch the way the
FBI has entered the chat, uh so? But yeah, So like I was like downloading episodes and that's like how I got into Death Note, like towards the end of two thousand seven, and then since then it's just been history. Like I even I watched I think I watched it in Japanese like eight times, and then I end up watching the English so good five times and then yeah, I know this anime is golden, Like yeah, I mean
it's golden. Is It's one of the few anime that I will watch over and still pretend like I don't know the outcome. That's that's how good it is, Like oh, he that that person dies, Oh what happens to the Oh? Wow, have you guys seen this anime called Death note it well, you know it was directed by tetsuro U Tetsuro Iraqi, who is best known for his work on Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online. And you know, speaking, we
talked a lot about Trigger. But another great, great, great animation house is Mad House, and that's the production company responsible for you know, Perfect Blue and Paprika, which you know, speaking of Paprika, I have beside me. I don't know if you've seen this Tokyo Godfathers, which is you know, so so you know it has I It was um and that is the same director he directed Perfect Blue and Paprika. You know, I just you know, just just
just gold. I have just just a side by if he's side roll roll call, just in case you were wondering Tokyo Godfathers. If you we need to do. We need to get you one too, so you can start doing Unboxed and like anime halls and stuff, prison School and out Lost Star. That's what we're doing. If he's one of those rich we Oh my gosh, do I need to show my goku to the camera again? Do I need to show I saw that. I saw that. I was like, wait a minute, I'm about to rob
you it is huge. It is huge. It goes from my chest to my head. It is so heavy, and it looks so gorgeous and makes no say yeah, it's the company that did that is also the one who did that thick endeavor statue that everyone's been talking about. It's the same kind. When I showed it to Lisa, she was like, Okay, then I'm gonna buy the endeavor. If that looks that good, then yeah, you'd love to
see it. I'm probably gonna get one more thing. I'm trying to get a gor and log on because I realized that, even though it's my favorite animal of all time, I have no figures of it. So how much was that? You're ready? H that that goku? That that that h ran me five hundred dollars uh, five hundred dollars um of of of of straight art. Is that's an unemployment that I look, I I look. I knew it. I
had the funds for it, you know um. And I was like, you know, it's it's time to do one of those investments, one of those like you know what, you know what, and you and you deserve it because you know you've been out here donating a black lives matter, so it don't even it don't even matter. I mean, yeah, that's that. Yeah, that's yeah that you know that was here's the thing, you know, Shy and Nigerian's love to flex and that was really that was really it was.
It was you flexing for a good cause. Uh. And that's and that's that's why I feel like I can just open That's the I can openly say I spent five dollars on a Goku statue because I also did donate two thousand dollars to Black Lives Matter. But also that's that's beyond all the other stuff. It's it is like this thing where it's like I'm just trying to if every time I buy some dumb stuff, I also try and donate to something worth worthwhile, and that's how
I balance out my conscience. Yes, we love that. So yeah. Death Note began originally airing in Japan on October three, two six. You know, I was, I was, that was, I was ready. I was I that was my first year of college, you know, of community college that I would not finish and thus end up becoming a comedian and actor. But this is when Death Note was going. Uh, and it finished its run June of two thousand and seven,
totally in thirty seven twenty minute episodes. Series aired on Nipon Television UH on the nip On Television network in Japan every Tuesday at twenty three thirty four, because you know they run on that military time. Let me do that, Let me do that, mathe. I just realized I said I started death Note ten years ago in two thousand seven. I meant ten years ago. Yeah, I knew what you meant, but I wasn't gonna correct you. I got it. I heard you. I wasn't gonna I wasn't gonna clap that math.
I was like, you know, I look at my my anime and oh okay, so so six PM is twenty and then you go to six and so so nine thirty four? What that is a weird time? It aired at nine thirty four. Why not nine thirty that's the that's demon four uh. In North America, the series has been licensed by viz for residents of the United States to use download to own, download to rent services like a while it was still airing in Japan. So this is like also on the cusp of like simulcast, UH.
You know, like you're getting those quick turnarounds in this movie is seen as significant because it marks the first time a well known Japanese anime property would will be made legally available to domestic audience too for download to own while the title still airs. You know, just is that's the smart way of saying what I just said. Basically, Yeah, the downloaded episodes contained the original Japanese audio track in English subtitles, and it's available through I g N S
Windows only direct to drive service. I remember direct to Drive. I remember also not using it. I don't even know what that is. Yeah, it was like it was just one of those like you know, ways to own, you know, video stuff where like you know, the first draft before we got to our netflix is and red boxes, you know, they had different different services. Um, so what were your first impressions of the series, like your first kind of
watching through it? Like go back. I know you say you like trying, it's like it's new every time, but like when you were first watching it, what were you feeling first watching I thought light yoaging me was hot as I was like wait a minute, who is this? That was my person impression literally, um and then I was like this is kind of unique, like what is it about this notebook that exit so special? And then all of a sudden, this big demon re you popped
up and it's like, Okay, something's happening here. I'm I'm tuned in, I'm ready. Uh, and then I just kept it was like different from what I was watching, because like back then I was watching, like you know, Full Metal Alchemists came out, and then um Or in high school host Club I think around the same time, came out.
So I was like watching like a mixture of anime and I had never seen something like something of like the kind of the Horde genre almost, and so I was like, well, I mean I want to get more into anime, so why not? And I was like a young new anime fans. I was like, why not, let's do it. So Death note I'm not even sure how I how I found out about Death not actually now that I think, oh, you know what, you know what?
You know what? You know what? Actually I do know how because I think I think I was like watching I think somebody did like a like they did like a parody of it on YouTube, and I thought it was so and I was like, what is this, Like I need to know what this show is. And then when I actually watched it, I was like, whoa, this is like not a comedy. This is not a comedy, Like people are dying, like lives are in state. But yeah, so it was like this when people used to do
like anime parodies all the time. That's when I first found out about it, And that's when I like, don't dive into like the whole Death Note thing. So yeah, well yeah, hey, so you you're locked in, you you're like it's time. Yes, absolutely, I still like I'm still I'm probably gonna watch it again. This like something about
that show. I think. I think the only other show that I can truly say might be just as good as Death Note to me is Code Chios because it's it's kind of the same concept, kind of Have you seen Code Chios? If you say no, I swear to God you're gonna be mad because home let me see it. Yeah, yes, because I always mix up Code Gias with Dance because I did see dance. You watch dance, nor then get off my back if you can't watch dance. All right, I've watching what what else was I gonna watch? I
was gonna watch something else? If you watch death No yeah, it's it's it's and mine's gonna be so so easy too, because they have Dance zero, which is like a which is the it's on Netflix right now, and it's like it's one of those like CG anime too, and it's one that doesn't feel bad because sometimes you see c G I anime and you're like, this doesn't look good. Oho. Kaiji Tang is one of the voice so lots of friends in there, alright, Christina V I did. I watched
it before. I was cool with uh with with Kaiji, but now I have to say, okay, all right, well look at that good job you're talking about. No dance. I you know, I'm gonna see see I don't worry. I'm gonna get the code code gias uh And I always in my head read it as geese, but I guess it's these are goats that you cannot just like you can't just fly by them, like you just gotta. Yeah, you know, you gotta take a good, good two weeks
to get you know, get introduced. Oh man, well dying, we'll get up, we'll get up in there, we'll get Look, we're gonna report, we're gonna report, and we're gonna have so many, so many animals to discuss when we do report. Yes, that's that's gonna be our homework. Yeah, all right, Well we're gonna take another quickie quickie break. But when we come back, we're gonna be talking about like the spinoffs, like the video game, and then we're gonna we're gonna
talk about the live action movie. We'll do all that right after these messages, and we're a talking about Death Note with Chyenna Hulu anime experience extraordinary. How you doing? How you doing so well? We'll talk about the kind of good versus the bed. I remember seeing this game, but I don't. I don't think I because I wasn't watching it, so I didn't really get into it. But there was a Death Note DS game. Oh yeah, it was.
I've never I've never heard of. I don't think I've ever heard and I definitely didn't see it see it because it seems like it never localized out here as far as I can see this release. Yeah, there's only there's only the only Japanese version is available on Oh man, they made a whole l game too, Yeah, and he looks easily they got him. Yeah, it's prologued to Death Note. Yeah, they went hard. Yeah, and DS. That's that was the rough thing about Nintendo DS. There were a lot of games.
Nintendo has a lot of games that are like strictly localized to Japan that we never got to see, you know, so big, big, big on their part, not following that, but yeah, Death Note Kira game. It's a strategy game from Konami for the Nintendo DS where a player takes on the role of Kira or l and the player attempts to deduce who their enemy is. Kira will try
and uncover El's identity and vice versa. This will play out in three phases, Investigation where the player will discuss the case and clues with the other characters, Voting, where each members of the investigation team cast a vote on who they suspect L or Kira is based on the players performance in the previous phase, and then L Kira, where the player can either focus on there where the player can either focus their investigation on one member to see if they are Kira on Els, or force a
member off the team if there are Kira. A sequel to the game, Death Note Successors to L was released in Japan in July twelve of two thousand seven. Then the storyline is based on the second part of the manga,
featuring characters such as Mellow and Near. And then they did a third game, Oh my gosh, and that's the one I was talking about, the prologue to Death Note UH, where the player assumes the role of rookie FBI agent who awakens in a strange hotel and attempts to escape with the help of l who provides assistant in the game via who provides assistant via an in game p d A. And the story is set before the Kira investigation in the original series. So wow, that's that's a lot.
That's that's a whole lot that we never got to taste, a whole lot Japan. Three games, three games for one of the most popular anime at the time that never came to the US. They're like, no, you know, maybe we weren't ready, and we weren't We probably weren't ready. Uh. And then um, the others spin off we're going to talk about, uh, And I think we'll go close on these thoughts and then maybe say one a few things about the one shot that came out this year but
let's talk about this, uh live action movie. We're talking about Netflix? Or are we talking about this? One? Is talking about the original one, which I haven't I haven't seen. Have you seen me? The one that not like the Japanese live action? Yeah, I have the JAP I have the first movie, the Japanese live action. I think there was two, but but I have the first movie on DVD and then ump, I mean the Netflix one. We don't talk about that. We just don't. We just don't
talk about that. I saw it. I had to do it, and that was just that, you know, I I I'm triggered, I'm traumatized, I am you know, I'm a lot of things because of that movie. Um, and they have the audacity, they have the audacity to make another, to be making another one, Like the disrespect is so clear. I just it was just so bad. Oh yeah, that was That was truly, truly truly it's it was. It was like I just seeing the fans react online, I was like, Okay, this is when I don't even have to check in
on it's it's it's garbage. But yeah, there were three that were done, the Japanese ones, and so those were fine. It seems like since you own one. Mm. Yeah, those were good, Like it was like the first time I had seen like c G. I done like that with for you character and well not even just for you, but like all this shitting got me. So it was like the first time that I had seen you know, c G. I like that, and it actually was really
good at the time. Like now I'm watching it, I'm just like, but it was good for like the time that it was. It was definitely a lot better than what I saw on on Netflix. Let's be clear, um, But yeah, I don't know something about that movie. And then I believe the voice actor for Light played Light in the movie in Japanese. I think I don't quote me on that. I believe that's what that was. But yeah, it was. It was good, it was cute. Yeah I remember enjoying it a lot, but I haven't seen it
in a long time. But yeah, oh all right, well yeah that's I mean, that's I feel like that's that's well, we'll leave it on. We'll leave it on the good, not the bad. And I think, you know, for for for those who might not have known or or might not have checked out the the the the kind of new one shot that that came out this year. What
is a light spoiler free review from Cheyenne. A light spoiler free review, UM, Death Notice back and they need to continue because that character Okay, without spoiling because it was so obviously it was like a really really short one shot. But I think when you read it, and you'll agree with me after you you know, watch the series, and I think you'll agree with me that that character needed a lot more love, Like that character needed to
how do I say this scout spoiling? That character deserves better? There you go? I think was his name? Okaye? Like okay, I feel that I feel that that character, yes, Minora, deserved better and yes, and it gave us like the death note feel that that we've missed so for so long, you know, like it gave us that death note feel. And then obviously key characters like for you was back
and like that was great. But the way they you know, the way they switched some things up, I didn't like too much care for but it was it was a good one shot. I think anybody that is a Death Noe fan should definitely take a look at it. Um, you know, relive those good times but with a different story without light. It's minora story. I'm pretty sure his name is Minora. Well then, I mean, there you have it. Then you better not miss that. Did you check it out?
But please, thank you so much for coming on the pod today and just dropping that death note knowledge in your passion and letting us borrow it and get me hype to watch through this, in this crumbling blu ray that I did not know was crumbling until I opened it? Uh,
