Episode description

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!

It’s January, which means it’s time for a fresh new year and a look at another Patrick Swayze film!

The looming threat of Communism was ever-present in 1984. Back then Americans didn’t go a day without thinking about the menace of the Soviet Union and the possibility of World War III breaking out literally at any minute. It was a time of great paranoia and greater patriotism. “America the Free” seemed like a powerful yet fragile concept that could be tested to the breaking point by our enemies across the ocean without warning.

Master filmmaker John Milius zeroed in on this national temperament with the classic action/drama Red Dawn. The Movie stars Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Grey, Powers Boothe, Harry Dean Stanton, and Charlie Sheen in his first role.

Listen in as Dave, Arian, a returning Rad Ranger, and special guest Mike Gordon cheer on the Wolverines on the newest episode of the Needless Things Podcast!
