Hosts Fran Chismar and Tom Knezick connect with Dr. Peter Groffman (Microbial Ecologist - Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Professor - City University of New York Advanced Science Research Center at the Graduate Center, Professor - Brooklyn College Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences) to talk about the social aspect of urban ecology. Topics include why we have lawns and a brief history of the drivers that encourage the use of chemicals. Also discussed are the long term effects from the decisions that we make.
