Speaker 1

Do you feel seen or heard when you watch the news?

Speaker 2

You mean, like good news wasn't really for me exactly.

Speaker 1

You know, it's an interesting thing when black people gather. If I were to say to y'all, right now, God is good, you would say all the time. If I said all the time, you would say.

Speaker 2

God is good.

Speaker 1

Speaker 2

I'm Madre Gillham, former mayor in Florida and former Democratic nominee for governor of Florida.

Speaker 1

Are creating a native land o. The news is made for the comfort of white people. The news media has always made me feel grossly unwelcome my entire career. I have felt homeless.

Speaker 3

I get this feeling watching the news too. One day I did like a marathon chaw. I got it. I said, well, I feel dirty.

Speaker 2

The titling of this show native Land is a reclamation of this space as ours, not being curated by anyone else other than ourselves.

Speaker 1

Yes, I was exhausted with having the fight even to talk about issues that were significant to millions of people across this country. We can skip past all that and just get to conversations of substance, but also to keep it a buck, conversations of some foolishness too. You know, we have a good time with each other.

Speaker 3

We're talking about the real things that really matter with real folks. All that.

Speaker 2

Welcome home, y'all.

Speaker 4
