Episode description

Nudity isn’t just about taking off clothes—it’s about returning to Self, Spirit, and Nature in the most authentic way. For Kerry, and many others, BEing naked is a profound practice of embodiment, presence, and liberation.

Born into this world naked, we arrived in innocence—yet over time, layers of shame and conditioning covered our true nature. By shedding these layers, both physically and energetically, we reclaim what was always ours: the freedom to exist exactly as we are.

My name is Carrie Cott and I'm a new to nature photographer, licensed physician of Chinese medicine, plant guide, and wild woman embodiment mentor. I help women heal from sexual trauma, awaken their authentic voice, and distinguish between fear and intuition so they can be led by their deep feminine heart.

I bring to life in this podcast my own internal wisdom. I will only share what I've learned and experienced on a personal level. As you listen, I encourage you to take from this what you need and just trash the rest. So happy listening.

Exploring the Meaning of Nudity

Nudity is not about a naked body. It's ultimately not about the physicality of a body. When I talk about this, I'm looking at it from my perspective in what nudity means for me. To me, why I share experiences with women, with other humans and exploring and being in their naked bodies. And I just as I say that, like in their naked bodies, I think we're all in our naked bodies, right?

We all have these bodies which is the whole, like perspective purpose of this conversation is that these are our bodies in our human experience. We are literally born into this world, into this reality with these bodies, and we come into this world in these bodies naked. There's often a conversation that I get feedback on about sharing this medicine of nudity. And it's connected to body image. And body image is definitely a part of experiencing nudity as medicine.

And for me, that's not the purpose. Like, that is a side effect of the experience of having the freedom to just be. For me, it's about returning home within ourselves. And I was asked this question by one of my retreat co facilitators, why nudity?

The Medicine of Nudity: A Return to Ourselves

And it wasn't that she was asking me it like I have no idea why nudity. She's asking me to pull things out. And it's like, why? Like, what's the why? Why nudity? Like, what is, what is its calling in this space? And it's a return home within ourselves, with all of life within ourselves. Is there something, I just feel it so deeply about just being in our bodies, the return to source, to consciousness, to God, to all of life. It's like who we are. And no, it's not that.

We are our bodies and these are our vessels that are housing our consciousness. And the fact that we enter into this space naked, like, how, how could existing, coming into this world bare be wrong and bad? And I say wrong and bad because if you took your clothes off right now and walk down any street that like, something's going to happen, you're gonna be judged. Got that one? You could be arrested, you be fined, made wrong, be put on some list.

Like that is saying that your nakedness is not okay, it's not safe, it's not right, it's not, it's not welcome. And I see it as the conversation that who we all are innately is not welcome. Cover it up, stuff it away, hide it away. Put that away. I don't want to see that. I mean, we've all heard it. I'm imagining in some way, shape or form, some versions. Cover it up, cover up your innateness, who you are. So when we have the opportunity to remove, to shed, literally shed clothing.

So there's this energy that comes with the clothing and comes with shame and wrong and badness, not okayness. When we shed that, we get to remove that heaviness, that cloak of icky energy. And there's also something else about clothing that's really interesting, is that, is your clothing real fabrics? Because if you're wearing anything synthetic, you're definitely impacting your natural ecosystem, your natural electrical current in your body.

And it's inhibiting not only the internal communication within self, it's inhibiting the communication with the natural world, which is also ourselves, right? But the natural world that is so deeply nourishing and healing, it provides us with every single thing we need to thrive, to survive in the world. The sunshine, the water, the dirt, the food.

And when we have clothing on, period, and then especially when we have synthetic clothing on, we create a barrier that inhibits the natural, healing, nourishing, communication with all of life. We literally create a barrier to life. And that's what clothing is designed for. It's a barrier. And the barrier can serve a purpose, right? So clothing can serve a purpose, but so many of us are wearing clothing because we're supposed to like, it's not even a choice.

The Journey of Shedding Layers

So when we remove this barrier, we unveil, we reveal something that's unhealed, something that's unseen, something that's unfelt unknown, something that's so yearning to be felt, to be acknowledged, to be witnessed, to be seen, to be loved, to be held, some part of ourselves.

And that could look like having issues with struggles and judgments about yourself, with your weight, or what your shoulders look like, or what your butt looks like, what your nipples look like, or where you have hair or don't have hair on your body. It can look like all those things as reflected in your body. It can also look like being scared of intimacy, inability to feel pleasure in your body, being stuck in your head.

And so when you remove, you shed, you just open up a portal and get access to something that wasn't available until you got naked. And whatever that something is for you, it's just something to be discovered. Are you gonna get an idea of what that might be?

Maybe you're listening and you're like, I got this conversation and maybe you're listening and this might be the first time you're gonna get naked, or maybe it's your hundredth time and there's still stuff to discover because I'm still getting naked and discovering things. I'm still getting naked and moving through layers of uncomfortability in places and spaces within myself that I've never been naked before. You know, different environments, things within myself coming to the surface.

There's, I believe there's always going to be something that is yearning to be seen, to be witnessed.

Exploring Vulnerability: The Power of Being Naked

And this is about an intentional space of being nude, being naked. And intentional just means you come With a. An awareness about it, knowing that it's serving a greater, deeper purpose, that it's a. A space to come home to yourself. And you know you can experience anything like that. You can experience your breakfast every single morning as an opportunity to come home to yourself.

Imagine what do you have access to naked that you don't clothed, what would you have access to naked that you don't? Closed, what's possible? Like, what could you discover and access within yourself for yourself, for the world, through being naked? I just want to invite you to be curious about that. Be curious about that in a way that you don't already know. The beautiful thing about inquiries, questions is that the answers reveal themselves. You don't have to go looking for it.

Maybe something popped into your awareness right away. That's beautiful. And maybe it hasn't. And that's perfect too, because it will reveal itself. The question reveals the answer. And just a little sidebar. If you've had questions about things but you've never actually like really asked them and said, hey, this is how I do it. Just like, hey, spirit. Or I just know I'm talking to myself, a spirit of consciousness, and I ask the question, whatever the question is.

And I might ask it a few times to just solidify it within myself. I might ask it 20 times. I might just ask it once and then just let it go. But it's the letting it go and letting it be and just trusting. So what do you have access to, being naked that you don't clothe? And this question is super helpful in allowing this body, this vessel, this practice, this medicine to be.

Healing gives your brain something to do, gives your energy something to do, and it requires something to come in that isn't already currently within your awareness. So by doing that, it's naturally making room for things that really matter to you, for deeper connection within yourself, with others. It's this opening that happens, and when you open, there's this natural release.

Embracing Vulnerability and Connection

What do you have access to being naked that you don't clothe? I feel like we're going to leave it there.
