¶ Connecting with Nature: The Role of Plants and Fungi
Your process. And yes, there's most likely overlaps. You have conversations with other people who connect with plants and. And. But the unique way in which you decipher the language is your journey. Thank you for tuning in your consciousness to the Naked Human podcast. I want to acknowledge your presence and what it took for you to. To be here today listening. My intention for you is that you receive what you came here for and find what you didn't know you needed.
This podcast is about what it means to be a human being and what it really means to be naked and how our relationship with Mother Nature has the power to heal us. My name is Carrie Cai, and I'm a nude nature photographer, licensed physician of Chinese medicine, plant guide, and wild woman embodiment mentor. I help women heal from sexual trauma, awaken their authentic voice, and distinguish between fear and intuition so they can be led by their deep feminine heart.
I bring to life in this podcast my own internal wisdom. I will only share what I've learned and experienced on a personal level. As you listen, I encourage you to take from this what you need and just trash the rest. So happy listening.
¶ Exploring Plant Communication
So how do you tune into the consciousness of a plant? There are a gazillion ways that we could do this. There are different ways that I could share about going about this. So I'm just going to offer some things. If something in here resonates for you, then just follow that, follow that thread for yourself. And there might be other aspects of things that I share in here with you that maybe you feel connected to, but they don't quite have the punch.
Maybe like one particular thing does just go with the thing that is speaking to you. Go with the place that you're at right now in what's calling you. There's no right or wrong way about this process. This is a unique individual experience and the way that you connect and listen and feel the energies. The presence of a particular plant or fungi is really your. Your process. And yes, there's most likely overlaps. You have conversations with other people who connect with plants and.
But the unique way in which you decipher the language is your journey. You don't have to do it. It doesn't have to look like how somebody else does it. So, like, for me, I see a lot. Like my vision is on point and I see so many things. I also feel also kind of like sense and know and sometimes I hear, but really this seeing, my clairvoyance, is, is dominant. Now, this does come with a caveat, because different plant energies might communicate dominantly in a different way.
So even though your superpower might be clairaudience and hearing, a particular plant you might be connecting with might be through feeling, might be through visions or seeing. And so taking that into factor and awareness. So sometimes I'd be like, I'm not really seeing anything, but it's like you need to tune in to actually, like, feeling. Or it might be more sensory in your physical body. Like, that's the way that that plant is communicating with you. And like, that's their dominant way.
So, like, plants have different vibrations and frequencies and tones. So you're just tuning to the tones of the plants. So a really great way. Maybe this is new for you, maybe it's not new, but this is. This is something I love to do with tuning into plants and listening and is through observation. And maybe that's because the seeing for me is dominant. But observing, observing what the plant's life is, like, is huge.
This is, I think this is really fun, like observing the environment, the plants growing in. What does it need? How does it grow? Who grows by this plant? Like, this whole experience of, like, how is this plant thriving in the world? What does it thrive with? So let's take, for example, mint. And I know there's many different types of mints. There's water mint, peppermint, spearmint. We're just going to go with mint as a general. So there's some general characteristics, though.
Each plant is uniquely its own medicine. I mean, each type of mint is uniquely its own medicine. Just going to say mint for this example. So whatever the plant is, maybe there's a different one that's like, in your awareness, but, like, looking at mint, how does mint grow? What is its ideal environment? Does it thrive in a northern climate? Does it thrive in a southern climate? Does it thrive in the tropics? Does it need a winter? Does it do well with frost? Does it like rich, dark soil?
Does it like sandy, rocky, filtered soil? Does it pervert prefer an environment that is dry, an environment that is more humid? Does it seem to thrive with lots of water or a little bit of water? Does it like sitting in water? Like, does its roots like sitting in water and being in marshy, wet areas? Or does it provide. Prefer to have soil that kind of filters out? Like, maybe it likes lots of water, but it likes the water to like, filter through it and not sit in the water?
Does it prefer direct sunlight? Like A lot of sunlight. Does it prefer partial sunlight? Does it seem to stay small when it gets little amounts of sun? Or does it get really big with lots of sun? Like, the environment and what. What other plants are growing around it? Like, what plants do you find mint growing with? Often does. Are there other plants that seem to, like, hang out together? Does it like to be out in a meadow, out in the open?
Or does it like to be on the edge of a forest or in the forest?
¶ Understanding Mint: Its Growth and Environment
And so as you're observing this, gathering information about the wisdom, the medicine, the teachings of this plant, now, I will say there's. When I say teachings, and I also say medicine. I. I mean them interchangeably, but they can also be a little different. So, like, when I think about the medicine and I'm looking and I'm observing, I'm thinking about the medicine that this plant has.
So, like, mint and, you know, its environment and how it's growing and it's thriving in rich soil, and it likes water, and it can kind of grow in this, like, watery environment and damp soil. And so it's telling me that it's. It's. It's moistening. Like, there's an aspect of this plant that's going to provide some moistening medicine.
And when I talk about the teachings, when I distinguish the two, the teachings, I feel like, come from, like, being in the union with the plant by listening with the plant. And they're also interchangeable because the teachings is the medicine and the medicine is the teachings. But creating this sacred relationship and honoring this plant as a conscious, living being is the greatest medicine and teaching of the journey. This is about, you know, like, observing the plant.
You're also connecting with the plant. Also, if you're consciously doing, it's even more in your awareness that you're intentionally consciously connecting with this plant. Regardless if it's in our awareness of I'm intentionally doing this, like, that's what's happening. We're connecting with this plant. We're observing it. We're feeling its energy, its presence. Our awareness is in connection. The plan is also in connection with us and aware of our presence and our energy.
And I can really feel this tamarack outside my window right now. Like, I keep looking at her, and I can really feel her presence in this conversation. And she knows she's aware. And so the observation, we're connecting. And. We'Re witnessing this plant, also coming to understand its energy. And so, also, like, this is, you know, in the observation, does this plant stay still and just grow really tall? What is its structure like? What is the integrity of its structure? Does it spread out?
Does it have one root system that connects to many that pop up? So, like, mint is like. It's like this thread and it. It spreads and then all these plants pop up from this connected root system. Aspen is also like this, where there's many trees that have one connected root system of, like, its organism, whereas a spruce tree has its single roots coming down and connected. And so is it. Is the. The structure of how it's growing and also the structure of it, of itself? What are its leaves like?
What is the texture of the leaves? What are the shapes of the leaves? Does it have any leaves? Does it flower? What do the flowers look like? What is the. The stem or the trunk of this plant? If you're looking at a mushroom, the mushroom is the fruit of the mycelium. What does that look like? What environment is it growing in? So, like, whatever being that you're connecting with, you're going to be observing how it thrives, how does it grow? What does it look like?
If you were to, like, take your hand and, like, you know, could you snap it with your fingers, or is it really strong and sturdy? Even if it's small and it looks dainty, does it look dainty and then when you touch it, it's like, really sturdy, or does it look really strong and sturdy and then you touch it and it's really soft and tender and just, like, delicate and are there any smells? Are there any scents just naturally emanating from it? What are those smells?
They smell fragrant, pungent, earthy, aromatic. How does that. How do those smells hit you? Is it like, like, right in your face? Is it really subtle and soft and it kind of just, like, comes slowly? Does it linger? Does the smell linger? Is it only there when you touch it? Like, all of this is information as you're observing and it's an endless observation, I could, like, just keep going on and on and on.
¶ Connecting with Plant Consciousness
So this is a way that you can connect with the consciousness of a plant and get to know this plant. You're getting to know this plant. And anytime, if you're in this journey, think about, like, how you get to know people. You spend time with them, hug them, smell them, taste them. You have a conversation with them. You listen. Different things happen. You feel different emotions and energies. And it's a really good point of paying attention to your inner world.
As you're interacting with a plant, how are you feeling? What's happening in your inner world? Are you taking Deeper breaths. Are you feeling energized? Do you want to move certain parts of your body? Is your mouth starting to salivate? Do you have memories that start popping in for you? Are you remembering your grandmother? And, like, what does that mean? What does your grandmother represent? All of this is the plants communicating.
This observation that you're having is communication from the plant. And this is when you start looking in your inner world and what's happening and start taking it in, like, oh, this is the plant communicating with me. And this is. This is how it's showing up for me. Oh, I'm really feeling this here in my. In my hips. And I'm remembering a time when I was in the water and I was laughing so hard, and everything just felt really, like, light and easy, and the air was just so crisp.
Things just felt really fresh and alive and free and fun. That's communication, and that's something that Mint just shared. Like, that vision was just there for me, and it was clear that Mint's like, that's Mint. Mint is communicating, and I'm seeing this story. I'm seeing this memory, this vision. And as I was sharing, it's like, yeah, it's cool. It's Chris. The energy of mint. I'm also thinking about a particular mint that grows around my cabin. That's a peppermint.
And so it's essent is essence is very, like, refreshing and fun and playful and also relaxing. There's, like, a calming aspect of mint that there's, like, this carefree freedom and calmness that comes with that carefree energy.
¶ Exploring the Essence of Mint
And so this is a unique expression of mint. And there are other plants that have, like, a calmingness, but it's a different kind of calming. It might be more of, like a snuggled in a blanket kind of calming feeling, held energy, but this is like a. Mint's got a more carefree calmness. Like. Like, I am safe and held, and I am so divinely loved in this, like, childlike, carefree essence of fun and playfulness. And so, working with Min, we have the opportunity to invite that wisdom into our life.
And in the relationship with Mint, we can allow ourselves to receive this embodiment, to reignite this energy within ourselves. We're merging, and we can invite Mint in to help us remember. Mint's here to help us remember this energy. What's popping in is, you know, mint's really great in the dead of winter when it's, like, it's heavy, it's dark, it's so inward, it's so still and slow. And you know, we can bring in, in this like really depth of energy.
We can bring in mint at times, not because we're trying to not be in the medicine of winter, because remember this playful, we can bring this playful essence into our winter. And sometimes we just really fucking need that. And I would say as a whole, as a society, we probably need a whole lot of mint energy in our lives. And so how we work with mint and how we invite mint into our lives can look any certain kind of way. I offer experiences for people to form allyships with a particular plant.
I offer plant dietas and sacred journeys and a group space to connect with a particular plant. And my retreats, we're working with plant beings and forming and deepening these relationships. And so this is a place that is medicine that I love to share. And how we go about it just depends on what's speaking to us. We can drink a cup of tea of the plant and that can be a ceremony.
It's the sacredness that deepens and nourishes and really welcomes and invites the medicine and the teachings of a plant. And so even just making a cup of mint tea, setting your phone aside, creating this environment and just smelling, taking her in, tasting her, even just touching her leaves and just being in her essence and her energy, like sitting there, having like think like you would have a cup of tea with someone, a friend.
You're literally drinking your friend, smelling your friend and allowing the merging with this conscious being and listening, having a conversation, asking questions or just feeling and listening and having that dedicated space it you can even just lean against an oak tree and feel, go for a walk. I lay in bed some nights and just have a conversation with tobacco. I love, I love tobacco so much. And you might hear me reference like her or him. And you know, consciousness doesn't have gender.
And just like I shared, there's different unique imprints of plants energies. Some can feel more masculine, some can feel more feminine, some can feel interchangeably both or sometimes for some people a plant might be more of like a feminine essence or more masculine essence. And it's just however you're connecting. And I remember initially being like, oh, I don't want to like plant doesn't have gender, that plant's not male or female.
But actually in the physical world some plants are like there's a female plant and there's a male plant and they need each other to reproduce. But like in the essence of a plant I was like, I remember at some point like hearing that and I was Resistant to that of, like, no. And also, like, who am I to really know? And like, I don't want to, like, sub put like a plant in a box kind of energy or maybe even humanize them, which. There's a word for that that somebody told me about.
I don't even remember what that word is now, but. And at some point I just surrendered to it as I've been doing plant dietas, my own personal plant dietas and forming these deeper sacred relationships. I just don't have that resistance anymore. And I enjoy it and I don't have it that it's right or it's wrong or. Because tobacco shows up as a more masculine energy for me, that that's how tobacco should occur for you.
And that's also the other thing that's really beautiful is that the unique teachings for you in your relationship with a plant are for you. And granted, there's probably overlap. So, like, if you form a relationship with Yarrow, you know, and then there's five other people who have relationships with Yarrow and you all get together, there's probably similarities. There might be some unique nuances for each individual.
And so if you're having an experience with a plant and it's medicine and its teachings is coming through you for you in a unique way, but it's not necessarily lining up with like something you searched online or something someone said, that's okay. This is about you in your journey and your relationship. So it's just like your relationship with your mom is going to be different. Like, your mom's relationship with her friend Cindy is going to be different than her relationship with you.
And maybe that's. Maybe a good analogy or not great analogy because that seems like it could be drastic, but your mom is still going to have her. Her essence. Like, whoever she is, she's going to have her core essence. Now, how that gets expressed might vary a little bit from each person to each person. So just consider it like that. Which is important for just trusting your own process and writing down things that come to you. So journaling about this is. Is really great.
What are you observing? I. I started a journal many, many years ago where I was just writing down my observation of plants. Each individual plan, how it was growing, how it was speaking, what could I gather from how it lives its life? And then I've since journaled about different. Different things plants have shared with me in that way. But journaling is a really great way to stay connected and to understand that plant or fungi.
And there's also lots of other ways and processes and journeys and avenues to have this experience. These are just some that I've offered for you here.
