Episode description

Sherlock Holmes will be the death of us!

Hey, it's a cool title. But the movie itself is at death's doorstep, so to speak.

Sherlock Holmes Faces Death is a 1943 film starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce and directed by Roy William Neil. Set during World War II, this film is at least slightly based on the 1893 story from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, "The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual."

In the film, Dr. Watson calls in Holmes to investigate after a disturbing and nearly-deadly incident at the great Musgrave Manor, an estate where a group of wounded soldiers are convalescing. And this is a 1940s mystery picture, so you know more murders are going to follow, as certain as death and taxes.

Listen to Kevin and Áine pay the ultimate price by talking about Razzle Bathbone, The Prisoner, falcons, ridiculous speeches, and Áine's poor taste in fiction.
