Episode description

"I'm wide awake. Yeah, I was in the dark. I was falling hard, in a crashing car."

Awake is a police procedural — slash family drama slash psychic fantasy slash psychological thriller — that ran from March 1 to May 24, 2012. Kyle Killen created the show, which starred Jason Isaacs as homicide investigator Michael Britten.

After Detective Britten's family gets into a car wreck, his reality diverges into two spheres. In one, his wife Hannah — Laura Allen — survived while his son Rex — Dylan Minnette — died. Then when he falls asleep, the opposite is true: Rex lives and Hannah is dead. The result is stress, sleep-deprivation, and a few spectacularly psychedelic sequences.

Listen to Áine and Kevin drift off on topics like sharp writing, police procedurals, and penguins.
