Episode description

Ronnie Golden is a musician, composer, and stand up comedian. Ronnie started as a teenage guitarist, opening shows for Tom Jones, Scott Walker and Engelbert Humperdinck. He worked with David Bowie in his Beckenham Arts Lab days then went on to form the cult new wave group, Fabulous Poodles who outsold both The Clash and The Jam in America in the early 80’s. After that he was doing stand-up as a member of the Comic Strip with regulars Rik Mayall, Ben Elton, French and Saunders and Alexei Sayle. He was in the first series of BBC 2’s The Young Ones as Buddy Holly, hanging from the ceiling in his parachute. His voice was regularly heard on Spitting Image as Roger Daltry, Mick Jagger and many more. His comedy double act with his friend Barry Cryer yielded several successful Edinburgh shows and a live cd, Rock ‘N’ Droll. They regularly performed their 2 hour show in theatres across the UK right up to Barry’s death in 2022.

Ronnie Golden is guest number 257 on My Time Capsule and chats to Michael Fenton Stevens about the five things he'd like to put in a time capsule; four he’d like to preserve and one he’d like to bury and never have to think about again .
