Episode description

In the realm of true crime, few stories are as bizarre and perplexing as "The Curious Case of Natalia Grace." This chilling tale unfolds like a psychological thriller, involving a seemingly innocent young girl, a family's desperate claims of deception, and a web of controversy that has captivated audiences worldwide. The true-crime documentary delves into the unsettling events surrounding Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian adoptee whose age and mental state remain hotly debated to this day. With allegations of deceit, neglect, and a shocking twist that defies belief, this story leaves no shortage of questions that demand answers.

The Adoption

The story begins in 2008 when Kristine Barnett and her then-husband, Michael Barnett, decided to adopt a child from Ukraine. The Barnetts were already experienced parents, having raised three children, including a son with prodigious talents in physics and mathematics. They hoped to provide a loving home to a child in need and chose to adopt Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian orphan with a form of dwarfism known as spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita (SED). Natalia's medical records indicated that she was six years old at the time.
