During Heuermann's arraignment for three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder, defense attorney Michael Brown entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Heuermann was remanded without bail.

Authorities reveal the identification of Jane Doe No. 7 as 34-year-old Karen Vergata, whose remains were discovered on Fire Island in 1996 and on Tobay Beach in 2011. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney states that there are currently no charges.

Following extensive evidence collection from Heuermann's family residence and searches in a wooded area in Manorville, he faces additional charges for two more murders. He is accused of the 2003 murder of Taylor, whose remains were found in Gilgo Beach and Manorville, and the 1993 murder of Sandra Costilla, whose remains were discovered in North Sea, Long Island.
