Episode description

Lucy Letby, a thirty-three-year-old British nurse, was found guilty of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to murder six others. Her trial, one of the lengthiest in English history, spanned over ten months and captured the attention of the United Kingdom.

The Guardian, which covered the case extensively with over a hundred articles, labeled her as "one of the most infamous female killers of the past century." The unanimous acknowledgment of her culpability was unwavering. The Daily Mail expressed, "She has unleashed Hell's gates, and the odor of malevolence engulfs us all."

The incident spurred the British government into action. The Health Secretary promptly initiated an investigation to scrutinize the hospital's failure in safeguarding infants under Letby's care. Following Letby's absence at her sentencing hearing, the Justice Secretary pledged to amend the legislation to mandate defendants to appear in court for sentencing.
