On 23 December 2006 twenty-one-year-old Heather Quan spent the day with her boyfriend Ryan Waller.
Christmas was two days away and the pair wanted to spend the holiday season together. Yet when Heather didn't return home for Christmas, and neither she nor her boyfriend answered the phone when her family rung, police were sent to their home late that evening to check on them.
When police entered, Heather was dead on the lounge. She had been shot. Ryan was conscious but he refused to explain what had happened. Ryan Waller was arrested on the spot. His clothes, still spattered with blood were taken as evidence and he was left in the back of a police car for 6 hours before his interrogation eventually began.
