Unknown Speaker 0:39
where we
Unknown Speaker 0:42
explore one of the most important books in human history. Welcome to another modern mind ancient book today. Isabella is joining me, and we are talking about narratives Isabella, say hello.
Unknown Speaker 1:03
So, do you know what a narrative is. Do you know what a story is. You don't know what a story is really don't we read books together.
Unknown Speaker 1:16
So a book is a story. Oh. Do you like stories. What's one of the coolest things or what do you like the most about reading the pages. They have the pages. But what about the pages, yeah there's so why I like it. So amazing. That's
Unknown Speaker 1:45
why you like it.
Unknown Speaker 1:46
Do you like the words on the pages. Do you like how the pages teach you a story that you didn't know before. Yeah, like llama llama Oh PM. Oh, that's doing. We're gonna read that book notice, what about what about Gandhi is this. I really want to recap, you really like those stories so why do you like them.
Unknown Speaker 2:19
Do you really like them too because they teach you about a little boy that sleeping and gets really scared and then his mama comes in loves him.
Unknown Speaker 2:27
Oh, like that. That's a really good story. Do you like him because of the way that he tells the story too.
Unknown Speaker 2:37
We have a good time reading books don't. So, you have been asking to read the book of Noah, right, or the story of Noah, right, we're going to read the story of Noah. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to ask you questions about the story so that you understand how to follow a narrative, which is a story.
Unknown Speaker 3:08
Does that sound cool. Cool. Okay,
Unknown Speaker 3:11
so let's do it. The story of Noah. And this is from Isabella is my first read and learn Bible. We got this as a gift and we
Unknown Speaker 3:24
know. Good. Yeah. God knows what to build up. Okay, so this is what's important about understanding narratives, we have to let the book, tell us what the book means.
Unknown Speaker 3:53
So what is this book tell us about Noah, that he is a good man. Who told Noah to build a big boat. God, that's right, that's, that's how we've read a narrative. So,
Unknown Speaker 4:17
let's start here now. He told Noah to get to every kind of shoe on the earth,
Unknown Speaker 4:36
and seven of the cleaning. boetsch was big enough to hold them all. Okay. Who is he who told Noah to build the boat, god, okay. So who is he.
Unknown Speaker 4:56
God.
Unknown Speaker 5:01
So God told Noah. A second thing right. What was the second thing that God asked Noah, that he needed to get to have every animal, and bring them where to the, to the big boat. Good job,
Unknown Speaker 5:31
very, very big folk.
Unknown Speaker 5:35
So then what happened, let's stick to the story here.
Unknown Speaker 5:45
Rained
Unknown Speaker 5:48
40 days, and 40 nights, the Earth was flat. Okay, So how did all this rain get here. Nope. Look here. What's that say, a store with
Unknown Speaker 6:09
your hand away.
Unknown Speaker 6:11
So how did all this rain get here. The storm, a bunch of rain right. Remember, Remember how, remember when it rains here, there's lightning and there's rain falling all over the place. But that's called a storm. Only this was a big storm, because we've never seen that kind of rain. Yeah, unless there's waves right. Every splashing everywhere, and there's so much water. Okay, come in. Let's get control, sit down. Okay, so there was a storm. And then how long did it rain for,
Unknown Speaker 6:53
for me,
Unknown Speaker 6:56
40 days, and 40 Nights right. That's a really long time, isn't it. How many, how many is 40. You can come to 20 Right. So you've got. So you've got look, You got 10. Then you got 20. Then you got 30 times, then you got 40. That's a lot of days isn't it. Yeah 100 is definitely more. And so it rained for so long, that there was a flood. Do you know what a flood is. Okay, so a flood is when you can't see the ground anymore, because there's just so much water in waves. In this case waves. That's right. Okay, so when the storm stopped. No, sent a dove to find dry land,
Unknown Speaker 7:49
who sent the dove in. Why did he send it to find dry land. Look at that bird, free got some leaves in his, in his beak doesn't
Unknown Speaker 8:06
know what oh everybody. We will never do it
Unknown Speaker 8:12
again. That's right. Let's read the rest of the story. Okay. The boat landed on top of a mountain. Can you see the mountain, why did it live on top of a moment, because there was so much water. Yeah, that the boat floated really high until it got to the peak or the top of a mountain, and that's where it rested because the water was going down, down, down, down, down up, right, it's gonna be it's gonna be gone. The water was gone. Just like you said, a rainbow appeared in the sky. It was a sign from God. So what was the rainbow sign from God. That's right. You're really good at reading narratives. We're getting what the story says in, only what the story says, and that's important. We don't want to make anything up, and we don't want to take anything out, we want to understand where the story is leading us. That's how you read Old Testament narratives and what are narratives. They're stories. I know there's a new Noah. Okay. Listen, let's get back to the story. Okay. So, in this case, the old customer are mostly stories about how people were either given stuff to do like no one like to build a boat, or like Moses like lead his people, or maybe like other stuff like that so the Old Testament is mostly about what God is doing with a certain people. So that's like really important to understand. It's also really important to understand that there's a lot of conflict, you know what conflict means. So, in this case conflict is all this rain in this flood you see. So, this flood. What happens when it floods. So, if the animals were on the ark or saved in Noah and his family were on the ark, right. I saw a
Unknown Speaker 10:49
super list email payments allowed, and in a row was saved. That was on Super books, they're very creative, aren't they. The Penguin back on the ship. Okay, listen, let's,
Unknown Speaker 11:04
let's let the narrative say what is saying let's set the story say with saying. So, if all of these animals right here were on the ark. What happened to the animals that weren't on the ark. He died. That's the conflict. Well, we're excited to die, dying. Yeah, well, God saved all these animals in the story, right, but the animals that weren't on the boat they died in the water, all the people that weren't on the boat they are late payments for the water. No, Well, penguins can swim in water, they can breathe in the water. They breathe air, but that's okay, you understand that. I just I just wanted you to know that the story says that God's saved the animals, and knowing his family, but it also says that the storm made people die too. And so, so that's what this rainbow is for. So, when it says here in the sky, it was a sign from God, the rainbow. So the rainbow appeared, because God was saying that he would never flood the earth again. Right. Yeah, no wouldn't, or God would never flood the earth again. So, Noah's family and the animals left the boat. God had saved them from the flood.
Unknown Speaker 12:32
Okay,
Unknown Speaker 12:34
so that's the story of Noah.
Unknown Speaker 12:37
Isn't that cool.
Unknown Speaker 12:39
You've been asking about this for quite a while. Okay so now you tell me the story of Noah and let's figure out how much you learn, Who is Noah. He's the guy who made the boat. Good. And then Noah in his family, and how many of each kind of animal to have each colony to sheep to those two elephants what else giraffes, jazz, all these different animals. Everything except for in the grownup Bible he brought seven, of all the clean animals and we'll talk about what that means later. So, let's go to the next thing. How did, how did this happen, what is this store. The store that brought all the rain, right. And what is this. That's when he let the bird. A bird go to find out for what if there's dry land. Right. Good. And then here they get off the boat, and what's the rainbow for the rainbow is for what is fine with never flooded the earth again. Well you handled this narrative show good you are the best little Bible readers and I want to congratulate you on a really good time. I really good job of reading the Bible and treating it responsibly.
