So what are the best ways to build confidence as a new coach ? Now , I love this question because it's actually why we put together this new program that we're coming out with . But a lot of people do want to know that , like , hey , I'm just getting started with coaching .
Some of them have a certification , some of them have no certification and they just are the type of person that you know . People come to and ask good questions , but how do you start to build that confidence when you first get started ? So , like we always do on this channel , let's talk about those three components right , the mindset , how you think about it .
Second is the tactics what can you actually do to develop confidence ? And third , accountability how do you get yourself to show up and do it consistently , to keep growing ? So , when it comes to confidence , one of the things that I love to teach my coaches is there's a difference in confidence and self-confidence .
Right Now , confidence has to do with things that you've done before , like if you poured a glass of water a thousand times , you're pretty confident that you're going to pour it and you're not going to make a mess , unless you're our kids . But when you think about that , it's like it has to be dependent on whether or not you've done it before .
If you're just stepping into coaching , you're stepping into something you've never done before . So we don't want to rely on confidence in the beginning . We want to rely on what's called self-confidence . Now , the way I was taught is self-confidence is having full confidence in yourself , despite any outside evidence .
That is possible for you , knowing there's only two possible outcomes . Either number one you succeed or number two you learn and you grow , because a lot of people consider it failures when you go out there and you take action .
Right , if you were to see , like our first YouTube videos , they're way worse than they are now , but we had to do that in order to step into what can we do differently , how can we grow and what do we need to learn ? So it's an important part of the process .
So when you're coming into having a conversation with somebody helping somebody helping coach them , we've got to think about okay , there's an opportunity here .
I'm either going to do it right or , most importantly , I'm going quote unquote not do it right , but I'm going to learn and I'm going to grow and remember that so many times in life we actually help people through the things that we've been through , because , like Ed Milet says , we are most qualified to help the person that we used to be the things that
happened first time . Usually we're not as qualified to actually help people because we've never struggled through it , we've never been through it right . So when somebody comes to me and they ask me about how I lost weight , I know what it feels like to be 100 pounds heavier , right , and , yes , I could probably still help them if I didn't .
But being able to get through that myself , that actually developed so much self-confidence in me that I actually now have been able to do that and I can help so many other people do it too . So really defining the difference in confidence and self-confidence is how we reframe the mindset of getting you to take action .
Now the second thing has to do with the tactics , like when it comes to what can you do to build off of it so that you can start to gain confidence ? So what comes up for you with that ?
It's really about practice , because many times and this is from experience is I was really shying away from basically showcasing what I could do and how I can help people because I didn't feel confident . So I thought , well , because I don't feel confidence , I don't really want to put myself out there and make a mistake and , you know , feel like a failure .
But that's actually the opposite . That needs to be done , Like you need to practice because you need to find those failures and you need to learn from them . And that's actually the opposite that needs to be done , like you need to practice because you need to find those failures and you need to learn from them . And that's how you get better .
So the more that you practice , the better you're gonna get and the more confidence you're gonna have .
And every single time you have a session , every single time you come across some issue that somebody's going through and you kind of help them through it , that means the next person is going to benefit from that too , because if they bring you the same thing or something similar , you'll say , well , I just helped somebody else do this , or I just went through
this , I'm going to be able to help you , so that confidence starts to build up that way .
Yeah , I love it . I love that perspective shift , the person that I'm in front of right now . I have more skills and more I understand how coaching works . I know this process more than they will , and I don't have to help them get to anywhere that I've never been .
I just have to help them get to where I currently am , and being able to work through that in your brain can give you the perspective to be able to step in and to practice , right . But I really love what you said about being able to help them . Now , even if you struggle with something , it gives you some more tools to be able to help the next person .
That's critical , I mean . That's why we talk a lot about when you're first getting started with coaching , even having coaching clients who are kind of doing it , you're coaching them for free for maybe six weeks , but you're getting them to share testimonials with you .
In reality , what you're doing is you're building up that self-confidence as you go because they're not paying , so you're not really as fearful as if they had paid you thousands of dollars , right ?
But you learn through every single session and over six weeks , if you do it weekly , that's six extra coaching sessions that you're going to be able to develop that confidence and be able to step into it right . So being able to take that , take action , learn from it and take it to your next .

And the third piece is the accountability is getting yourself to show up , and I feel like it also bridges the gap with that second one , which is tactics .
Because here's the thing If you are in a group of other coaches people who are going out there , who are getting uncomfortable , who are coaching , who are bringing back those lessons to you like getting to share some of their wins and some of their losses with you so that you can experience exponential growth it really helps speed up that process for you .
I realized that like early on , is I could go through it myself and fail and try to figure it out on my own , or I can connect with other people who are going through it too and I can fail much faster through them and I don't have to experience the pain , but I still get to learn the lesson right .
So when you think about that , when you think about finding a group , finding a team , finding a mentor that's maybe a few steps ahead of you , who's going to be able to take action and bring those actions back to you , give you some feedback on yours , it's going to help you build confidence faster .
I mean , that's why we put together our Coach Accelerator , because we wanted to make sure that we can help coaches who maybe don't have that confidence , who maybe don't have those skills , to exponentially grow not only their impact , their income over six months by being in an environment like this where they are growing , they are learning , they're bringing their
coaching sessions and because we've had thousands and tens of thousands of coaching sessions , we can share some different philosophies and some things that can actually help them right . So it's all about finding that environment . So if you are somebody who's looking for environment , definitely reach out . We can share our environment with you .
But regardless , I want you guys to really think about this . And that is like when you are looking to grow . Exponential growth is when you do it with others . Individual growth is much , much slower and I know that you can 100% do that , but why would you do that when you can grow 10 , 100 , 1,000 times faster ?
You grow from everybody that you're around , so don't give up that opportunity to grow . Lean in getting uncomfortable , get yourself to find a group that you have . Accountability and focus on these three things the mindset , which is the difference between confidence versus self-confidence .
The tactics how can I put myself out there and learn and practice and take whatever it is I'm learning into my next session , into my next client . And number three is how can I put myself in an environment to learn that lesson much , much faster ? And I promise you you're going to wake up six weeks , six months , six years from now and go .
This is an entirely different life because I was able to speed up that process exponentially .
