¶ Universal Principles and Impactful Coaching
So somebody asked me you speak a lot about how you're always driven towards universal principles . What does that look like for you and what does that even mean ? One of the things that I found is having growing businesses , being in a leadership role , helping make an impact in people's lives .
When it comes to coaching them and finding stories that like they can really lean into to take massive action , I find that my brain naturally will pull out universal principles that I hear that people are saying and it allows me to show them how they can move it into other areas that maybe they're currently struggling with .
So this was a question from Cynthia where she wants to know , like , what do I mean by universal principles and what are some of the ways that I use them to help make a big impact in the people that we coach ? So I'm curious from your perspective , like I know you hear me talk a lot about universal principles .
I know you see me pull out universal principles , but I'm curious , like if you had to explain it , what comes up for you ?
Well , that's what I was going to ask you , like , if you could define what universal principles are .
Yeah , yeah . So when you look at , somebody is struggling with their physical and mental health , right , and they've been able to overcome it and they've been able to lose weight and successfully navigate it right , like even for us .
So we had 30 years for me of being out of shape , unhealthy , at one point , being 100 pounds heavier than I am now , and I was fluctuating up and down , and then I found something that helped me overcome that and to take massive action , lose 100 pounds and now keep it off for 13 years .
And so if I'm telling you that story , right , I'm telling a story of like I found a way to give myself a reason why I should get up when the alarm goes off , versus using , like , a bunch of different stories that I would tell myself whether I need a break , or I didn't get enough sleep last night , or this is going to work anyway .
That would convince me not to hit the alarm , and so what I would do is I would remind myself every single day like this is what I'm fighting for .
I'm fighting for my family , for my health , for my energy , because once I pour into my you know , my own cup , then I can pour into so many other people's cup and it gets me to show up on my A game , right .
And maybe the next thing is like I actually started to read books , I started to learn about the compound effect and I was doing exercises and workouts and eating nutrition that I really enjoyed and that really changed the game for me .
So if you're having a conversation with somebody they don't know universal principles , they're like , okay , that's cool , like let's tackle this new area now , right . And they feel like they're starting over from scratch . Let's say somebody struggling with business . The way that my mind would work is go okay , what are the universal principles that worked last time ?
Right ? Number one is you found a story or a way to talk to yourself , to convince yourself to take action , right . Number two is you put yourself in an environment of other people who wanted the same results and goals and have the same values as you , and it got you to show up on the next level . Right .
And maybe number three is you took control of the things you can control , because when you do that , sometimes you can even control the things you thought you couldn't , and so you take those universal principles and you go okay , so let's think about your business strategy , right .
What is the story you're telling yourself right now about business that's preventing you from taking action right ? Or even earlier we talked about , like , public speaking . What are the stories you're telling yourself that's getting you not to accept public speaking positions or to create them yourself , right ?
What's a new story that we can actually tap into that remind you of what you're fighting for ? To get you to take the actions you want to take ? Because there's people out there who need to hear your story . They would connect with it and they would change their life forever if you're willing to get past the fear of you and make it about them right .
Next thing is let's go in an environment where other people are public speaking .
It's just the norm , it's what everybody does and everybody's sharing ideas and strategies and examples , and it makes you feel like you're a part of the group , because they're nervous too , but they're going out there , they're crushing it , they're bringing back what they're doing , they're succeeding in what they're failing at and you're able . A speaking environment .
What can't you control ? That you just need to bless and release .
You can't control how other people respond , react whether they laugh at your jokes , whether they feel compelled by your story , but what you can control is how you communicate , when you're making it about them , not about you , and really showing up in a way where you're focusing on things you can control .
So that's what I mean by universal principles is because sometimes people see it as individual , like , oh that's how I did it in my health and fitness and that can't possibly help me somewhere else . That's not how my brain works . My brain works .
Oh , that worked for you , that's going to work for you over here too , because we're all wired a little differently .
But when you find that you can have success in one area by doing these things , yeah , so this is what I'm hearing from you and maybe I can explain this in a way that makes sense . Let's go back to the health and fitness example .
So people want to know what people did exactly what they did so that they can apply it themselves , thinking that it's going to work for them , right , when in reality , it's just about finding those universal principles and then applying it to your specific life . Yeah , that will help you .
And then , in another way it's you're taking from a completely different area of your life , taking the things that went well in that area and then applying it to a different area , because there are those universal principles that you pick out that will help you in the other area . So , that's what I'm kind of hearing from you 100% , 100% .
And as you're talking about that , it's like also the difference between coaching and mentoring , like mentoring and coaching , right . So mentoring is . I'm going to tell you the steps I took . When people like hear that I've lost 100 pounds , they want to know what it is that I did . But they never asked me who I had to become .
And it's because the universal principle is you have to become somebody different in the process .
If you don't become somebody different in the process , you're just taking on a new action and that new action is never going to become a part of your daily habits or routines , because it's not something you do in your core , it's something you're forcing yourself to do .
And if you force yourself to do it , there's going to be a time when you don't force yourself to do it anymore , right , and so when you think about this , when you think about the early morning routines right , we've done some videos here because people are like what's your morning routine ?
And I'm like I hate that question because so many people are not morning people I'm like don't do what I'm doing and force yourself . You got to find the universal principle . The universal principle is not everybody needs to wake up in the morning . Universal principle is figure out what your universal prime time is .

¶ Optimizing Productivity and Success
in . Let's get right back into the show . When do you get more done in less time ? When do things flow and you feel like you have perfect energy and you're able to crush a bunch of work ? If you're like at nighttime , I come to life , I'm like well , at nighttime you need to work your business , you need to do your lives , you need to do your videos .
You do everything when you're in your most high state . But if people are like oh yeah , just wake up in the morning time , I'm like that's not a universal principle , that's you saying this work for me , so you have to do it . And then you have the people who are like , yeah , I wasn't a morning time before , but now I transformed .
It's not helpful for Google , right ? So really being able to find out what are those universal principles that that help you to take that action ? Now , the truth is , is not everybody's brain is going to be wired like mine .
It's just , this is the way it is , is I can be on a coaching session , I go , I can teach you how to have success in this other area , because you just told me the universal principles and they're like what are you talking about ? And I'm able to share it to them . That's my strength . I also don't want people out there on social .
When Siddhi asked this question , I'm like this is really important for me to describe , but also say that that's just how my brain works . If your brain works like that , tap into that , grab the universal principles . If it doesn't work like that , figure out a different way to be able to do this .
Right Now , we talk a lot on our channel about the mindset , the tactics and the accountability . Those are universal principles . Mindset how you think about attacking that thing is more important than what you do , because if you think about this as like , oh , I just got to do this again , versus I'm about to change someone's life .
Energy that you're going to have and doing that thing is going to be next level . Even if you do the wrong thing , you'll still show up . Tactics are what do you have to do ? We learn what the right thing is by doing something and when we do that something , we see did it work ? Keep doing it it . If it didn't work , try something new .
But the third piece , like talking about accountability , is how do you get yourself to show up and to take action ? Those three things are all universal principles . It's what this channel is built around .
It's what our coaching sessions are built around Finding out where the person is mindset-wise , finding out what they're doing tactics-wise and finding out how do they hold themselves accountable . Most of the time , no-transcript .
