786 Do You Really Love Your Neighbor? (1 John 2:9-11)

This was the concluding sermon to our Feast of Tabernacles 2023 - a call for us to love our brothers and sisters. Do you really love your neighbor? If you don’t then you do not have salvation. This is a call to be introspective.

785 Strive Not to Sin, but Be Humble (1 John 2:1-8)

You CAN live a righteous life; Yahweh is an encourager of that to you. Each day you live should be one in which you consciously make a decision to do the right things. It’s time to let go of the false doctrine that our righteous deeds are filthy rags. At the same time, a righteous person acknowledges they still need repaired. Humility admits and confesses sins we are still trying to break free from. In the middle of this lesson I touch on the word propitiation, and look at the idea of Penal Subs...

784 The Blood of Yeshua Cleanses Us (1 John 1:5-10)

There are some people who profess Christ that are liars, so says the Apostle John. What makes someone a liar? This lesson covers some thoughts on how exactly the blood of Yeshua cleanses us from sin, and encourages us to give love back to Yahweh who loved us first.

783 Fellowship with Yahweh and Yeshua (1 John 1:1-4)

I share how 1 John 1:1 correlates with Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1, and what the word of Elohim is. Towards the end of the lesson I discuss how my fellowship with Yahweh and Yeshua blossomed when I realized they were really Father and Son.

781 How Well Do You Know Scripture?

We are actually commanded in Scripture to memorize the Torah. Have you hidden Yah’s word in your heart? How are you spending your time?

780 Shekels, Youth, and the Fire of Love (Ex. 22:17b)

What is a shekel? I cover the amount in silver required for a bride-price in the case of enticement, and then I make some final remarks on dealing with young adults realistically. I also encourage married couples to keep the fire of love burning.

779 The MAN Yeshua of Nazareth (Acts 2:22-23)

Yeshua is a man. How does that make you feel? This sermon centers in on the first words from Apostle Peter after he finishes quoting prophet Yo’el. Yahweh performed His greatest of all works through a man from Nazareth, and we must believe in this man whom He hath sent.

778 Must a Woman Marry her Rapist? (Ex. 22:16-17; Deut. 22:28-29)

An objection I’ve heard given by both atheists and liberal Christians is that the God of the Old Testament required a woman to marry her rapist. I answer that objection in detail here, focusing in on an exceptional footnote in the NET Bible.

777 A Father’s Loving Authority (Ex. 22:16b-17a)

Scripturally, a young man is not allowed to marry a young woman if the girl’s Yah-fearing father refuses. This lesson speaks to (1) the bride-price, (2) parenting carefully, and (3) the weightier matters of Torah.

775 Understanding Joel’s Prophecy, Pt. 3 (Acts 2:21)

The backdrop of the death of Yeshua is covered, as well as some eschatological points from the Olivet Discourse. What does it mean to “call on the name of Yahweh”? The curses of Deuteronomy 28 are also covered, and a shocking realization from Josephus’ recorded history is read.

774 What Marriage is All About (Ex. 22:16-17; Gen. 24)

I cover some preliminary thoughts I’ve had while studying Exodus 22:16-17, namely that a good marriage is key, a woman is a gift to man, daughters are to be given not taken, and intimacy is designed for covenant relationship. I also read and hit some highlights in Genesis 24, ending with a warning to both men and women in the Torah community.

773 Be a Responsible Neighbor (Ex. 22:10-15)

Why is there a difference between keeping (guarding) someone’s money and keeping someone’s animal? What’s the big deal about taking an oath before Yahweh? If you borrow your neighbor’s chainsaw and it breaks, do you have to replace the chainsaw? These questions and more are covered in this lesson, and I end with an important admonition about all or nothing.

772 Pay Back Your Best (Ex. 22:5-9)

We must respect our neighbor’s property, even to the point of making restitution when we caused something to happen unintentionally. Here I cover more on restitution, the concept of property rights, how to handle paying back a person you’ve hurt, and trust having to be earned.

771 Understanding Joel’s Prophecy, Pt. 2 (Acts 2:19-20)

Were there wonders and signs in heaven and on earth during Yeshua and his apostles ministries? How could the sun have been darkened and the moon turn to blood in the first century? And what about the “Day of Yahweh” or “Day of the Lord”? Is that day yet future, or is it somehow past? These topics and more are covered.

769 Is Forceful Self-Defense Wrong? (Ex. 22:2-3a)

Some in Christianity have taken a position of total, complete pacifism. Based upon this text in Exodus (and a few others) I believe they are incorrect. At the same time we must consider the balance found in religious persecution. Listen to learn about some intricate details in the book of instruction and how they apply to our modern lives.

768 Stealing a Man’s Work Truck (Ex. 22:1, 3b, 4)

We begin a new chapter in our journey through Torah here and look at some particulars in regards to theft and restitution. Why is double restitution required sometimes but five-fold restitution required at other times? I also cover narrative examples of restitution from the mouth of King David and Zaccai.

767 Be Responsible for Your Animals (Ex. 21:33-36)

The laws pertaining to responsibility and/or negligence do not just apply when a human being is injured or killed, but also when an animal is injured or killed. Domestic animals are their owner’s responsibility. In the last half of this lesson I give a brief refresher course on why we spend time studying the Book of the Law.

767 The Ox that Gores (Ex. 21:28-32)

Does Exodus 21:28-32 apply to you if you don’t own an ox? Maybe it only applies if someone you know personally owns an ox? Listen to learn about the necessity of Yahweh’s law, and the importance of us not being negligent.

766 An Eye for An Eye is Just (Ex. 21:24-25)

On the heels of the Law concerning striking a pregnant woman comes a judgment clause about “eye for eye.” Is this barbaric and outdated? Have you ever thought deeper about what it could mean? Listen to learn of the just judgments of Yahweh, and also how Yeshua did not abandon Exodus 21:24-25 when he cited Matthew 5:38-42.

764 Is the Criminal on the Cross a Model for our Salvation?

Sermon pulls from Luke 23:32-43. I respond to a popular clip I’ve seen a lot of lately from Alistair Begg. Should we look to our works at all as a part of our salvation? Is justification by faith alone the apostolic teaching?

763 It Might Be Strange, but Yahweh Commanded It

This is a message of encouragement for the saints of Yahweh to keep on serving Him no matter what. It can weigh on a man’s mind after years of being different from most people in the world, but we must endure to the end. Not everyone who starts a race finishes it. May we finish strong, not making excuses for ourselves when we don’t want to keep certain commandments.

762 The Power of Preaching (Acts 2:14-16)

We must recognize the importance of Apostle Peter’s preaching. Nothing takes the place of a law-gospel preacher. It would do us all well to find a preacher who is true to Yahweh’s Word and sit under his tutelage.

761 Should Strangers Keep Passover? (Ex. 12:43-49)

This lesson covers three more ordinances concerning Passover, and delves into the controversial topic of circumcision. Does the command about circumcision still apply today? I go over a key hermeneutical principle, and then I balance everything out by making sure we consider not just Scripture, but ALL of Scripture on the topic. Get your Bible out and follow along, there so much material here that I don’t want you to miss.

760 Don’t Leave the House on Passover Night (Ex. 12:40-42)

I decided to answer some FAQ about Passover this year in preparation for the holydays. I look at the reason why Yahweh’s people stay up most of the night on Passover, and at what point we are allowed to exit our house (to fulfill the remaining ordinances). The lesson ends with an actual example in our local congregation of an emergency situation and how Yahweh’s mercy always forgives the repentant, obedient person.

759 Pesach, the Lights, and Yeshua (Ex. 12:1-2)

This lesson calls us back to celebrating that which Yahweh sanctions. Modern Christianity celebrates just about every holiday with some kind of religious flare, except for the ones commanded in Holy Scripture. I do an overview of the Scriptural calendar here, and end with talking about how Yeshua is the great shadow-caster. Buckle up for a truck-load of information.

758 The Gift of Languages, pt. 3 (Acts 2:11-13)

This wraps up this mini-series within a series on the Scriptural gift of tongues. Acts 2:11-13 is exegeted and then questions are answered. Towards the end 1 Corinthians 14 is examined in light of Acts 2; whether or not the languages therein are the same, and whether or not the gift the Apostles received can be or is experienced today. So many golden nuggets of teaching are given in this lesson.
