The thing about MMA that makes it such a great sport isn't simply the knockouts, submissions and great fights, it that it shows a deeper layer of humanity. Who is really still there when things get tough in a fight? Who is able to put on big time perfomances against starts and hype names? That's what this video is about. Those fights that showed these people are more than their personas.

Max Holloway absolutely showed out last night, defended that BMF championship and deserves all the credit in the world. For Dustin Poirier, he put on a vintage performance win or lose and retiring in a way that few still do, while fighting the best at the top of the division. Credit to the UFC for handling this one well, but of course it couldn't be done without the incredible career of Dustin's. What a fight, what a career, what a legend.

It's crazy witnessing what looks like a generational talent, evening going as far as becoming champion in a division, but even while still in their prime, another person who is somehow even more elite comes along. These are the stories of fighters like Max Holloway would destroyed literally everyone not names Alexander Volkanovski for years and years or Cormier vs Jones, Benavidez vs Demetrious Johnson. These are the fighters stuck at 2nd best.

Jon Jones just retired on Saturday night in the most disapointing way any champion has ever walked away. GSP and Khabib retired in their primes, where most champions at least had an understandable collapse over many years due to aging out of their prime. Jones on the other hand decided to throw up a middle finger at the fans, the division, the sport and even himself. This is the most disgraceful exit of a UFC champion ever.

Some of these MMA/UFC rules are incredibly stupid, some of them are just poorly thought out despite the best of intentions. Either way literally every single regulation here was a massive fail and it meant the exact opposite of what was intended actually happened.

The UFC pushes fights on fans all the time and these are perfect examples of either pushing people to soon like in the case of Darren Till, too late like Stipe Miocic or even without money being a big benefit to booking them. Were fans really paying out for an immediate rematch for Sean O'Malley? Was Miocic bigger than Aspinall vs Jones? What was the point of these title shots?

UFC may be the big dogs in combat sports, but things don't always go their way. In fact, their own athletes in the case of Jon Jones or Conor McGregor get one over on them frequently. Other organizations and people like Turki Alalshikh as well. These are the times the UFC had to bow to someone else.

Merab Dvalishvili just put on a showcase performance against Sean O'Malley and frankly made it look quite easy. The question is, with such a dominant run already and of course, Joe Rogan making the declaration that Merab in fact is the GOAT on broadcast...Is Merab the best bantamweight of all time? What about Cruz, Dillashaw, Aljo?

Lucky rabbits foot, not changing certain articles of cloathing, stick to exact routines and things like this definitely exist in other sports than MMA, but the examples in this video are..... well unique. We're talking outright cheating to trying to cast spells and all manner of wackiness. These are craziest things people actually tried to give themselves an edge in MMA/UFC.

Most MMA/UFC interviews are pretty standard and don't really say much. "Just give me whoever the UFC wants next." plagues this sport. Sometimes these post-fight interviews can be insanely more interesting than that. Whether it's hinting at retirement, sponsor beefs, or even petitioning governments, there is just so much here. Take a look!

MMA is a really tough business to get into if you are wanted to compete with the UFC. At this stage, it nearly feels impossible. Back in 2006 when the International Fight League came along however, they developed a unique concept; team-based MMA. It was a bad idea. A really bad idea. The same was recently tried by the GFL and it's unlikely they will even hold an event with several cancellations in place already. So... let's watch this calamity fall apart.

Welcome to the Machida... um I mean boring era, might as well have been the proclamation from many fans about the entertainment quality of the UFC champions. Didn't turn out to be quite true as perhaps the most 'boring' champ Belal Muhammad just put on an all-time classic title fight in his first defense with Jack Della Maddalena and the two managing to put a clinic on at UFC 315. Incredible fight and some very interesting matchups now with Islam Makhachev and now Ilia Topuria fight vs Charles O...

When you look at some of the biggest upsets of all time.... were they really that shocking in hindsight? Like, did Ronda Rousey really ever have a chance against a world class boxer and kickboxer in Holly Holm? Of course it's not true of all upsets. Matt Serra probably would have lost 9 times out of 10 to GSP, but he did manage at least this one time. So these are the fights where it's only shocking at the time, but now is pretty obvious when you have it all framed properly.
