Our Monday book serialization is George Ade's 1903 collection, 'In Babel -- Stories of Chicago.' The stories in this book range from the hysterically funny to the pathetically sad. Altogether, they paint a fascinating portrait of turn-of-the-last-century Chicago.
For many years, elevator rides were conducted by 'elevator operators' who often wore uniforms covered with shiny buttons, hence the title character in this story, 'Cupid in Buttons.'
