Episode description
Each day 20 veterans commit suicide. September is National Suicide Prevention Month.
In this episode of #MissionDriven I speak with Boyd Melson. A West Point graduate that served in Iraq and continues to serve in the Reserves. He's aligned with various charities and groups that aim to assist veterans in tough times.
We discuss:
- How to get through isolation
- How to put things in perspective
- What anyone can do to prevent suicide
- How PTSD affects more than veterans and soldiers
- The power a smile can have for a stranger
- Suicide Prevention Proclamation at Ft. Hood
- Dir. of Public Relations at Consultants for America's Veterans
According to a report published by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2016, which analyzed 55 million veterans' records from 1979 to 2014, the current analysis indicates that an average of 20 veterans die from suicide per day.
