You're listening to the Mindset in Action podcast , bringing you the map to grow and streamline your business in 2023 . I'm your host , dona Eade , your go-to gal for all things podcasting , planning and productivity and I'll be bringing you all that plus Mindset goodness from experts with knowledge to share . Let's make 2023 the year of success in your business .

Welcome back to this mini Monday Mindset series . We are on episode three of this mini series , so if you have missed episode one and two , I will link them in the show notes for you or you can scroll back a little bit on your app and you will find them . Today we're going to be talking about imposter syndrome .

So on the first Monday we spoke about judgment and other people's judgments of us , and last week we spoke about perfectionism and procrastination , and today I wanted to dive into imposter syndrome , and if you listened to episode one , you'll remember me saying that actually , I think this episode is going to have a lot to do with that judgment episode as well the

fear of judgment Because I think a lot of the times it is stuff that we project onto other people rather than what they're really thinking . So imposter syndrome can be a significant roadblock for aspiring podcasters and in this episode we are going to explore how this mindset issue can affect you and how you can overcome it .

So imposter syndrome makes you doubt your own abilities and makes you feel like a fraud , and it can hold you back from sharing your expertise and your unique perspective . Remember that everyone starts somewhere and you have value and insight to share .

So this can be actually a double whammy of imposter syndrome here , because I think in business oftentimes , especially women , which is unfortunate . But it is true that we have this imposter syndrome almost built into us . Like who am I to do this ? And I don't know enough .

And there are other people out there that know more than I do and we can really put ourselves down . And then we project that onto other people that they must be thinking that if they look at you in a certain way , they must be thinking that you aren't the right person to do this .

So you've got that layered on top of this new thing that you're trying to start doing podcasting , and all of the information and technical issues that come up with that . But you're thinking well , people are going to be wondering what on earth am I doing ? Like who am I to start a podcast ?

And you might be thinking that internally , like I'm not a podcaster , that's not what I do . I'm a nutritionist , I'm a mindset coach , I'm a health coach you know all of these different topics that you do as your business and you're thinking who am I to start a podcast ?

Well , that is something that I thought originally as well , and you know , I thought that podcasters were much more like radio personalities , that you had to have a studio , a setup , that there was something much more to it , that it was a much more professional , you know thing like a radio station , that you would have to go somewhere to do a podcast and that

you would hire out the studio and that you would need sound techs and that you would need all of the types of people that you have for a radio show involved in a podcast . And so I thought that is completely out of my realm of possibility . I'm never going to be able to do that .

So , these business owners that have podcasts well , that's because they have a lot of money and they can afford to run a podcast , and I just thought it was this huge thing . And actually it is as simple as recording yourself on a device and uploading it , and that is it at its base level .

Now , obviously , there is a lot more involved in it than that and there are better ways to record yourself than some ways that people suggest you do it , and there are easier ways to edit and make sure that what you're putting out there is good content , and things like that .

So there is always things to learn , but it is not the thing that I had it in my head as this huge production thing that I would never be able to do .

So it is really important that when you're talking to yourself , that you're thinking about the words that you're saying to yourself , and this is across the board , because oftentimes our own internal monologue can really stop us in our tracks .

So focus on your strengths and the knowledge and passion that led you to consider podcasting , because , whatever it is , you know I always say that I am here to help passionate business owners with a message to share . If you have a message to share , then you have every right to start a podcast and you don't have to feel imposter syndrome around that .

If you have the necessary experience in what you do to be able to talk about it , then you have every right to be talking about it . You know , obviously there are certain things where qualifications is necessary . If you're going to be a therapist , I would never expect somebody to not have some some kind of training in that .

But if you have those qualifications , if you have those expertise , if you are somebody who helps people like me for example , I help people to get their podcast started it doesn't require a qualification for me to teach you because I have done it myself and it is a formula that can be repeated and you can have success with it .

Now , if it was a diet thing , then obviously that wouldn't be , because what works for me isn't necessarily going to work for you . So it would be wrong of me to say everybody could do this diet and have the same results as me . But I could say that everybody could implement my system and could create a podcast from it .

There are obviously things where you need and should have qualifications to be doing what you're doing . You know whether there are qualifications that you should have for what you're doing . Some things don't need any qualifications .

You know yourself whether you've done the work and you've got the experience , and I think we often put ourselves down and we belittle our own experiences . So please don't do that . Know that you are fantastic and that you have the knowledge that you have . You have the experience that you have and you can share that through the medium of podcasting .

And there is nothing to say that you can't do a podcast , because it is a simple formula for you to follow . So remind yourself of all of your accomplishments and that positive impact that you're making on your audience and your clients , and seek support from the podcasting community or a mentor to boost your confidence .

So I hope that what I've just said there has helped to boost your confidence within that . Impostor syndrome is so , so common , but don't let it prevent you from starting your podcast . Your perspective is unique and valuable and the world deserves to hear it . So that is it for episode three of this Monday Mindset Mini series .

Come back next week for the final part , episode four , and I will link the other two in the show notes for you to go to , and I will be back on Thursday with another guest episode . It's so exciting to have back to back guest episodes . So I will see you then , but until then , have a fantastic week . Bye for now .
