Hey, it's a beautiful sunny summer day with puffy white clouds or maybe it's dark gray clouds. Maybe it's raining. Maybe it's hailing where you are, thunder and lightning. Maybe you're being torn apart by cats, regardless of your personal situation. Thank you for listening to Mike Dell's world, Man. Good morning. Good evening. Good afternoon. Whatever the case may be. Oh, pick out the music. I made this thing a while back that intro and, uh,
I found it when rummaging through the old computer. So, uh, anyway, welcome to Mike Dell's world. I have no idea what episode number it is. I'll figure it out, but I'm back. I'm here. Um, still busy. gosh, been May 15th, uh, just before we went to podcast. Uh, and now, uh, it's just before going to podcast movement in Dallas, Texas. So I'll be down there, uh, Monday night through Saturday noon or so, and if you're in the area, give me a bump and, uh, or stop by the booth.
If you're going to the conference, whatever, uh, might be able to meet up. We're staying at the shirt and right downtown, uh, in Dallas. So looking forward to that, we got some, uh, new announcements at blueberry, of course, and got a really big one on Monday, which will be interesting. You might be able to see that in action. Uh, maybe this weekend sometime. I don't know. Uh, we'll see, uh, if, if we get it that ready or, or if it's, uh, a little delayed,
but who knows? So it's been a busy summer and, uh, gosh, it, uh, sort of seems like summer's already coming to a close, but, uh, yeah, it's middle of August, so I guess it's not closed yet. And we still got some pretty nice weather here in Northern Michigan. Uh, some of the highlights of, uh, what's been going on here is of course, you know, working like crazy, uh, and, uh, you know, trying to get all this stuff out for podcast movements.
So after that we can kind of relax and I get to my home projects, got a bunch of those. I did get a fence put up in my backyard. Uh, uh, we had some houses built there back in the woods behind us and, uh, you know, just, uh, needed a little more privacy. So I put a privacy fence across the backyard and it's been, uh, been rather nice, uh, having a little extra privacy, like we used to have before they put the houses in the woods, but, uh, we didn't know the property was for sale.
Otherwise I'd have probably tried to buy it, but oh, well stuff happens. So let's see. Oh, I got a new toy here. Also got, uh, the road caster pro two and it's been okay. I've had a couple of glitches, uh, recording podcast, insider, uh, cuz for some reason it doesn't like Skype that well and uh, the audio dies out, but uh, it doesn't seem to happen on zoom. So we'll use zoom to record that one until, uh, roader fixes it, but it's got some pretty neat effects. So like this.
Yep. And uh, I can go high pitched hello out there. Yeah. It's kinda silly or it can sound like a megaphone. Hello, welcome to Mike McDonald's world anyway. or robot. This is a robot. Anyway, lots of stupid buttons to push, but , I love it. You know, I wish this thing was out, uh, 15 years ago. Uh, would've been fun then, but uh, glad it's out now. Uh,
and I use it all the time, you know, for normal work stuff. Uh, if you call, uh, blueberry for sales support or billing, chances are, uh, I'll be talking through the roader to you. so got the phone piped into the thing, but it's quite the, quite the device, uh, for the podcasters, but, well, let's see what else? Oh, my, uh, old blue van that, uh, I had enough miles on it to drive to the moon. Uh, I, uh, drove it on its final drive about a month ago.
I went and drove that to the junkyard and uh, he ended the keys over and it was, it was time the, uh, steering rack had gone out of it completely. And uh, I mean you could still steer it, but there was zero power steering. So the ride was, it was a little tough when you're going slow. It didn't matter when you're going, you know, highway speeds or whatever, but, uh, anyway, got that gone. And so we're just down to the truck and the, in the newer van and been doing a lot of camping as well.
I took an entire 10 days off and spent it, uh, sitting in the shade next to a lake. And that was kind of nice. I got a couple of books read and uh, really didn't do much else of any productiveness, which is exactly what I want to do when I take vacation. And, uh, we've gone a couple other places. Uh, in fact, when we get back from Dallas, uh, my wife will already have the camper set up, uh, over at, uh, turtle lake and I'll, uh,
stop there on my way home from the airport. Ironically, I'm flying out of Manistee, Michigan, uh, BL if you wanna look it up, it's a Nicky little airport. I'm gonna be flying out on a Cessna twin to Chicago, but it was like half the price of airline ticket, you know, the airline tickets and, you know, then I connect to American in Chicago to go to Dallas and, uh, same thing coming back. But, uh, yeah, Manistee was, uh, half the price as traverse city or grand rapids even
so thought. Why now try that? Uh, it's uh, a little airline called Cape air and literally they, I think it's eight passengers will fit on the, on the plane plus the captain. Uh, I don't think they have two pilots on that one. They might, I don't know. It's not a true airline. It's kind of a charter thing, but uh, still the price was was right. And actually I like flying on smaller planes. So it'd be interesting to say the least, uh, to do that.
So I'll be coming back from Manistee and, uh, about halfway back is where the campground is that, uh, that, uh, we're going to, so we'll, I'll spend Saturday night, Sunday night there and we'll come back Monday morning. And so it'll be a nice little break at the, uh, end of a, a week of going to a conference. It should be fun. We're taking four people and, uh, got a pretty big booth. And, and uh, like I said, we'll have a lot of buzz cuz of our new product coming out.
Like I said, if you watch Mike dell.com, you might get a glimpse of what the new product is. Uh, maybe we'll see might just be an announcement on, uh, Monday, our developers are, uh, burning the midnight oil, uh, getting the final touches on everything. But uh, if all goes is planned, it'll, uh, it'll be out on Monday. So that's kind of cool. Um, let's see, a couple weeks ago spent a week down in Columbus, Ohio with the, uh, whole team. We got the, the whole team minus two together, uh,
at the Columbus office. First time that office has been used really since COVID, uh, for anything big. I mean, there's, you know, a couple locals there that, uh, go in there once a week or whatever, or twice a week maybe to pick up mail and whatever, but, uh, you know, most people are, most of us are working from home now. Well, I always worked from home, but it was good to see everybody, uh, got to ride down there with Barry cants or, uh, our CFO and uh,
and staff lawyer and co-owner of course. And uh, so I rode down there with him and that was, uh, that was a lot of fun. Don't don't get to talk to Barry too much. If you wanna hear Barry's podcast, he's been podcasting as long as I have, or maybe even longer. Uh, he does the home based travel agent podcast, which, uh, he does it pretty religiously. I think it's a, I don't know if it's monthly now or every couple weeks, something like that, but, uh, he's been at it forever, so it's great.
And you know, it's an interesting show, you know, even if you're not into, uh, being a home based travel agent. In fact, I don't think a lot of people do that anymore. I think, uh, mostly he talks about travel destinations and uh, cruising and that kind of stuff. So it's pretty, uh,
pretty good show. Um, of course I'm a Glu for punishment, uh, as Lester said, uh, how can I, uh, pod fade a show if I don't have an extra show to pod fade so starting next month, I'm doing the auto history [email protected]. So if you want to hear me a little more often, that's the one to go to? Of course I, uh, do podcast insider every, every week or almost every week I'm on it, but there is an episode every week.
Um, we haven't missed one and I don't know, two, three years at least. So that's good. Uh, like I said, I'm the king of inconsistency, but it's good. Uh, let's see, uh, what's going on here in traverse city? Well, of course we had the cherry festival and I got to go out to the coast guard ramp and, and, uh, look at all the airplanes prior to the air show. And of course, uh, met the blue angels again and, uh, uh, got to, uh, talk to an air force recruiter out there, which was,
was kind of entertaining. Uh, now, uh, the air force recruiters are also recruiting for space force. So I got one of his cards. I thought that was pretty funny that , that had air force and space force on it. Uh, I guess that's the same with the Navy recruiter in the Marine Corps, I guess, but, uh, it was, uh, it was cool. Talked to him a little bit and uh, got to see a lot of cool airplanes. There's a couple of MIGS there MIG 15 and a MIG 17,
or maybe it's a MIG 21. I don't remember. I'm not good at my MIGS. And lets see a couple F sixteens. There was a couple a tens. Uh, there was a Harrier, a V eight B Harrier from the Marine Corps. Uh, of course fat Albert, the C one 30. Of course they got a new one of those for the blue angels. Uh it's I don't know J model I guess, but it's the, the one with the six Kevlar six blade Kevlar props on it.
So it was quite, uh, quite cool, but uh, got to hang out there and uh, also got to go to the, uh, Haggerty, uh, vault, I guess you'd call it, but uh, they have a big storage facility here where all the classic cars that they either own, you know, people in the company own or uh, they have around or store for people or, and red line rebuilds and, and know, you know, all of Haggerty. I dunno if you're familiar with Haggerty, but it's a classic car insurance company based here in traverse city.
And like I said, they probably have 60 or 70 cars in this warehouse and they do an open house every month and I actually got to go to one of those. So that was cool. Got to see some needle cars and uh, all that got to see the model a, that, uh, Haggerty bought all the parts for at the Hershey swap meet and built the car right there at the show and then drove it from Hershey, Pennsylvania to driver city, Michigan and then the guys at, uh,
red line rebuild, uh, rebuilt the engine and, and got it going. And, uh, that was sitting over there. Nice, nice looking old model a, uh, two door coop or no two door sedan, I guess. Yeah. The one had the backseat, not the rumble seat. I'd love to get my hands on one of those. Uh, it's super simple and uh, all the parts are still available in, you don't have to worry about no stinking computers or body control modules. so that's gonna be one of my episodes for, uh,
auto history. Talk about the model a I'm hoping to line up a, a guest, uh, Paul shin. He's kinda like one of the number one model a experts around and, uh, got a pretty, uh, uh, pretty pro uh, prolific, I guess, would be the word, uh, YouTube channel. So look up Paul shin, if you're interested in all kinds of model a stuff, but uh, trying to get him, uh I've in, uh, in emailing his wife and, uh, she kind of takes the reins and booking him for stuff like that.
And also, uh, have a, a lawyer slash author here in Michigan that, uh, has a YouTube channel, uh, Steve Lato of Lao's law, but he does a lot of things about cars. He wrote a couple of books, actually wrote three books. One about the Tucker, which is the, uh, Chicago based car that, uh, made the movie about, uh, I think is in 47, I wanna say, or 48, I think it was 48,
Tucker 48 is, uh, what they call a model. And, uh, they made, I think, 50 something of them and they had to do that bef you know, otherwise they'd get in trouble for some sort of lying to their investors or something. I don't know what the whole deal was. There's a whole movie about it. But, uh, anyway, he wrote a book about the Tucker. He wrote a book about the, uh,
Chrysler Turine cars back in the, you know, back in the sixties. Well, earlier, earlier than that, but in the sixties, they had a program where they built 50 of these, uh, turban orange Chrysler, turban cars, and the model name was the Chrysler turban. And they built, uh, somewhere around 50 of them, 53 maybe and all of them, but one of them is that, uh, turban bronze or orange, kind of a burnt orange color. Uh, there's only two of them in private hands.
All the rest of them were either crushed or our owned by the, uh, Chrysler museum in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Uh, I think they got three of 'em and only two of the three run. And, uh, Jay Lenos runs and I don't know about the other private owner, but, uh, Steve actually got to drive a couple different ones of those. Uh, one, I know he drove one at the Chrysler museum and he drove Jay Lenos. Uh,
he got to be friends with Jay Leno in case. And in fact, Jay Leno wrote the forward to, I believe the Tucker book and the Chrysler turbine book. He also wrote a book about the, uh, uh, winged cars of, uh, late sixties, early seventies, you know, the Chrysler or, uh, Dodge charger and Plymouth, super bird, you know, the ones with a ridiculous wing and the fiberglass nose piece on the front that they ran in NASCAR for a couple of years.
So he wrote the book on that and got to drive, uh, the one that, uh, oh, what's his name? Geez, I'm trying blank. Uh, Richard Petty. Yeah. He got to drive Richard Petty's, uh, tur or, uh, wing car, uh, Plymouth, super bird. And then, uh, there was another one he got to drive a Dodge, uh, charger or whatever they call that, uh, charger Daytona.
Yeah, that's what it was. But, uh, anyway, so he wrote those three books and I'm hoping to get him, uh, I I'm hoping to interview him about all three, but not all at once. So that's coming also, uh, got a U2 pilot, uh, you know, that flew the, uh, U2 spy planes.
And one of the unique things about the U two spy plane is when they taxi out and when they come in the land, they have another YouTube pilot in some hot rod car to, uh, guide them around because it's really hard to see out of the airplane, both because the windows are kind of small and they're in a space suit when they're flying it. So it's really hard to taxi and, uh,
and be in the right spot to land and all that. So, yeah, I'm gonna talk to this guy about the, uh, the cars that, uh, they used over the years for, for that purpose, you know, chasing the U2. So that should be fun. Uh, and you know, they're not all gonna be interview shows, I've, I'm, you know, gonna do, uh, Volkswagen Beatle. I'll do the model a, uh, whether without Paul, I don't know, probably do the model T I want talk about, uh, Henry Ford and Coca and John DeLorean.
So it's gonna be all about the automotive industry, sometimes a particular car, sometimes a type of car sometimes, you know, who knows, uh, something I'm currently interested in. And, and I really gotta get back into podcasting for myself since I spend all my time working on other people's stuff. so it's just as well that I, uh, do something I'm interested in. Of course I always do this one may not be all that frequent, but, uh,
I'll always do this one. Uh, this is, uh, you know, kind my therapy, I guess, you know, I know, you know, don't have a ton of listeners, but, uh, those of you that stuck with me over the years, I, I do appreciate that again. I'm trying to get, uh, Jim Farley to record with me one of these days and we'll do another what's up with that. That might be fun. Uh, might even try to get Kathy on, uh, we haven't done one together in a long time. Uh, maybe, maybe I'll bring my portable setup, uh, camping.
I'll put it in the truck before I go to the airport, uh, on Monday so maybe we'll, uh, maybe we'll, uh, do a, a podcast from the campground, uh, if it's rainy, especially, but, uh, we'll see. But yeah, that's really about what's going on just working sleep and working sleep and eating camp and goofing off. And, uh, well, you know, like I said,
doing the fence build and I got some yard work stuff. I, I, I told Kathy, I, I really want to take September and have, you know, not a whole lot to do, uh, on the weekends, hopefully not traveling or anything, just, just to catch up on things around the yard and around the house. Uh, we're uh, about to, uh, embark on getting our basement redone.
Uh, you know, of course it floods, uh, that's the whole reason I built this office slash studio out in the backyard, cuz I had the office in the basement and that was okay until, uh, the water levels got high on the lake, Michigan, which kind of flooded my basement a bit. So we're gonna have the whole floor broken up and uh, report and, and uh, you know, drain system put in and uh, and you know, decent sump pump and, you know, do it, do it by the book and uh,
hopefully, uh, next time the water levels go high. We won't have to worry about, uh, flooding in the basement. So , uh, that'll be good. So other than that, uh, you know, like I said, just, uh, making a little short, uh, update here and, uh, we'll try to have some, uh, more content here as well, but uh, go check out auto history, podcast.com and also you'll notice that you may have noticed, or you may notice on this one that there's some advertising, uh,
pre-rolls post rolls on here. Uh, that's an experiment, uh, on my part, but uh, blueberry launched programmatic advertising and of course I've been testing it. So on my two shows, uh, you'll, you'll hear maybe some ads and there's somewhat targeted, but if you hear something you don't think should be, uh, advertised. Sure. Let me know. And even if you, if you can capture the media file with that,
add in, it'd be great. Uh, cuz uh, I got a direct line with the company we're partnering with and uh, I wanna filter out stuff that, uh, shouldn't be there, but there shouldn't be any politics, uh, cannabis, alcohol gambling adult, I think was the categories that we're not, uh, supposed to get. So trying to keep it somewhat, uh, family safe though, this show isn't always family safe, but yeah, whatever. So with that, I'm gonna,
I wanna play the theme song I picked for, uh, for auto history. Uh, everybody have a good time until next time. And again, uh, if you wanna get ahold of me, [email protected] and any comments, questions, or uh, just say hi, look forward to, uh, hearing from you. Here's the, uh, theme song for auto history. Of course I'll duck it down to, uh, talk the intro, but uh, anyway kind of an neat song I thought, of course I'll never play it. Uh, this long on the, uh, on the other show,
just, I said it's good background music, I guess. So, uh, anyway, thanks for listening, everybody have a good time. We'll catch you next time.
