The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This is Mick Shot screaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys at now. Here are Bill Jones, Everson Walls, and Nicky Spagnola. It is a Cowboys Wednesday here on mix Shots, but it's not like a normal Cowboys Wednesday, because this is a Monday night weekend. This is Eagles Week.
Welcome to mix Shots, Bill Jones, Mickey Spagnola, and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Everson Walls is here on the show. Hello Everson, Hello Bill. I'm looking at a list here. It looks like he's gonna have to wait another view. Yeah. I was gonna say, I'm get a little pissed off here name, But you're not. You're not on that list. You're not on Modern Guy not. They have eighteen finals every SENTI five and Iver Community. The
finalist consists of fifteen Modern Day and Senior finalists. Cliff branchs, Yeah, Cliff branch that's I mean, you can pick any finals guy from a senior and I gonna yeah he deserves it because I mean, so many guys missing yeah, it's a love him A Cliff Brands. They need to put it more Art McNally, uh, and coach Dick Vermill. I mean I deserve it, right, yeah, I mean when I didn't make it, Uh, they tried to get me to come on the bus, like, Okay, you didn't make it,
we need to downstairs in five minutes. I'm like, well, are you gonna do? You're gonna do. I'm like, man, I'll beat that when I get ready. They that senior class every one hundred years. Yeah, there you go, I make it the next hundred. Yeah. So they ended up when I stepped on the bus because I was so late and they're waiting on him, and they said, I thought you made it. All the boys on that at some of those Ty Law was on the bus, Isaac Bruce, I believe it was on the bus, and I said,
they said, man, you deserve to make it. My one statement was we all deserved to make yeah, right, I mean we all deserved to be and Joja Kobe didn't make it, and so yeah, I mean, you know, as much as I fussed and complained about not making it, you know, any guy, I mean even that year Kramer finally made it and Robert Bazil doctor doom. Yeah, So I mean, what am I gonna say? Man? I need erved to get I mean I was fans of those guys, so it's crazy. Well, and I show the modern How
many are there? One hundred and twenty eight or something like that. I don't know why I got one twenty three on my mind. It might be one twenty two, it might be one twenty eight. Okay, did you go through? You found the Cowboys on here? I found DeMarcus Square. I saw Darren Woodson as I was walking door. Yeah, I really am. I'll get it out here. I got Eric Williams, got Cowboys Eric with Okay, okay, okay, let's start. You want to start with the quarterbacks on our list here? Yes?
All right? And there even though Tony Romo is eligible, there's no Tony Romo on the list, right, Yes, Okay, we're not gonna list all of these, but I will do the quarterbacks for you. Former Cowboy Randall Cunningham. Yeah he did as a quarterback. He actually played pretty well. Jake Delane Boomerissias and Jeff Garcia, Dave Craig, Donovan McNabb, and Steve McNair Dave Craig because he played nineteen years teams well, plus he had a heck of a wide receiver that he had to throw too. He busted me
up a couple of times. Largentgen. Yes, I wouldn't give it to Craig, I give it to Lodgings. But he played like with eight teams I think, okay, nineteen. For some reason, I only remember him with Seattle. Oh yeah, he was all over the place, that's all I remember. So I read his bio and it had you know, ranked seventeenth in this and twentieth than this, and it got way down to the end and it was a nextra little paragraph on his whip whip keep whatever. I can't say it, try to try to say wiki, leave
it at wiki. At the bottom it said he is the all time leader in fumbles. Hmm, Well I wouldn't manage if you played them many years. Yeah, yeah you can as a quarterback. Okay. So Dave Craig played twelve years with Seattle, that's what we remember. I remember two years in Kansas City, so he would have been there with Mike McCarthy. In fact, when Mike McCarthy was at backage the city as an assistant. There, there we go Marty Schottenheimer Lions in ninety four, Arizona ninety five, Bears
ninety six in the Tennessee Oilers ninety seven. And wow, so I said eight? How many was it? One? Two, three, four or five? Six? Three time pro bowler? All right? So running backs Herschel Herschel former cowboy Herschel Walker. I don't know Eddie George also a kick returner, it says next to him, Hey, yeah, you got what? Okay? All right? Wide receivers Ricky Warters don't side, but Vicky Warters should be in true priest Holmes, man, I saw that running backs,
Well what about lorenz O'Neil, lorenz O'Neil. Well, okay, if we're gonna if we're gonna go Taylor, all right, if we're gonna include fullbacks, then Daryl Johnston. Yeah, include Dale Johns. You've been putting in Vin Springs, Ron Spring There you go, Ron stats, those stats? Ye, all right? Um, Wide receivers to toy still hadn't made it. No, man, No, he's got an asks. That mean that means he's been a
finalist for finalist or a semifinalist semifinalists. Yeah before okay, Jimmy Smith there, I was just looking for a former cowboy there you Jimmy Smith, former cowboy boy you talk about brief Yeah, briefly cowboy. Don't ask jim long enough to heaven appened Deck to me here? Yeah, but it wasn't funny. No, that's right because he got infected. Ye, all right, tight ends. Witten's not eligible yet offensive lineman and my cousin's on some walls may make it wa
Keith Miller brother from another mother. Yeah, there's some names on here. I saw. It's like seriously all right? Uh no, they won't pick DeMarcus Ware. You mentioned DeMarcus Ware and Leroy Glover. It's on the list as well. They got where as a linebacker too. Yeah. The names are all recognizable, but are they Hall of Fame worthy? That's Zach Thomas, another former cowboy, and Corney has been it is in regards said deserving something. Help me help me with Alan
rossom m hmm. Never heard of them, Sam Mills, Man Bottom Sanders, Adrian Wilson. Did he just make one? Sanders is a great player, Mickey is okay, I don't remember Adrian Wilson. He made one play in the Is that the guy that made the play in the Super Bowl? And Alan Rossom, by the way, is from Dallas Skyline High. Now that's why I remember the man. I'm going first of all Woody, That's all I see down here is with him on dB. I just all I see is
with him. So album got Albin Lewis from Grambling. Oh there's another former Cowboy up there, Leroy Glover yea mentioned Yeah, sorry, yep. So there you go. There's your update on the hundred and some odd modern era candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I'll drop out real fast. And the voting, uh, I mean, I think they keep this list all the way to know they get to November, they get twenty five or so, the semi five in November. Okay, um,
I just talked with Mike McCarthy. We just take the Mike McCarthy show, all right, you should he shaved everything, cut his hair. Well, we were supposed to do it yesterday, okay, but it's we normally do it Tuesdays at five o'clock, okay, and just to pull back the curtain, but it's a Monday night week. Yeah. So schedules are messed up this week. So these people are creatures habit And so the day is Tuesday. You let's let learn any thing you can
tell us that won't come out until Saturday. That that's the problem with taping these shows Tuesday or Wednesday is and that and the show doesn't air until Saturday. All the injury news and stuff, you don't there's no even reason to ask him about it right outside of off the air. So, um, so I didn't tell you anything that I can reveal. He looks so sneaky, didn't you got this look at will boy? I bet you was a sneaky little joke. Come on, Michael Parsons a defensive
end or a linebacker? Yes, that's the answer. Yes, And that's okay, And that's we've known that they want to keep him at linebacker, yes, long term and use him in a variety of ways. It's a hypers guy. Now, the question is this week, with Dorrin's Armstrong's uncertain status, but you're getting Randy Gregory back, how do you use Parsons right back where he was? Yeah? And I think that's the k that ankle I hear on Armstrong is a high Yeah, so so he's probably not okay, So
we can quote he's highly questioned. We can quote Mickey on that, not the head coach. Yes, right. And by the way, since we mentioned Michael Parsons, if anybody has the time, once it's posted on Dallas Cowboys dot com, catch his interview today. He was really good talking with the media at large. Yes, he was. You know what I've said when I talked to him at training camp, I told him after we got done with the interview, You're going to be the best interview on this team.
And the reason is because he doesn't give you the stock answer. He's he's opinionated, yes, and as he gets and he truly thinks before he answers. He's just going to give you any type of answer that's right. And he's real when he talks to you. So one of the things I recall him saying was he goes, yeah, he goes, you know, I'll play everywhere anywhere. You know, I am play defensive end, I'll play linebacker, whatever they want. And he goes in, the other team won't know what
I'm doing. So that it was pretty good, all right. I know that to be true because we saw it this past weekend, and he wants to do both, and he doesn't think he needs to be regulated, that he could do it all. I'm like the bull. The bull just keeps running. Something to that I paraphrased. Yes, yes, you gotta love it. He means it. It isn't that just some mode goes back to the hard knocks thing about you know, the lions always hungry. He learned that
the Penn State's Minney lion. Yeah, yeah, um so anyway, and I hear the Watkins Carlos Watkins ankle might be troublesome. Also troublesome. Also, yes, okay, but they should get Randy Gregory was supposed to be I saw on the practice field. So he's back in the building today, so he's ready to go. Okay, he's getting some extra work in. They did, like a little walkthrough or whatever. That's right. So and then stay tuned because at two forty five, something will
break right as soon as we get done it too. Yeah, I was gonna ask you anything happened yesterday? I mean I was surprised to see you here. Maybe you got hurt again, jeez. So we'll check in at three, although they don't I don't believe they have to give out an injury report today because it's technically with the Monday games. Yeah, it's like a Tuesday, yep. But anyway, I think we know that. And then they made a couple additions to
the practice squad. Cornerback Hilton Hill, Texas Hilton Hill, Holton Hill, he was with the Vikings right three years. And then Ratide the wide receiver Yep, Damian rat Let to the practice squad. He had been with Cleveland, played thirty one games with the Browns and the Texans. So those guys were added to the practice squad. They had well, actually they had two spots because they release Hiroa Lula where
to go? How about that? Yeah? What you know? Once once he figures out how to pronounce the name, they release him. Yeah. Yeahs between this and they had an open spot. So they they had an open spot, and then they created one with the kicker and brought in those two guys on the practice squad. Okay, and then
I feel good about Greg the lea. So after this game, the guys that were put on injured reserve um after they were on the roster for one day would be eligible to return if they're healthy enough and you know, the way we've seen um Ball, Josh Ball, the tackle running out there, he might be ready to get back um although, and I mean they might need to give him a chance because I'm not sure, you know, with tied n Seki, it seems like it's always been something
right at least I saw him out there. He was and he was out there, Yeah, so that was that was a good sign after his heat exhaustion. But he would be ready to come back. Kelvin Joseph, I haven't seen him do that much, so I don't know that's the growing exactly where he is. Was his a groin or knee, I don't think. For some reason, I'm thinking amount Donovan Wilson was the groin. Yes, that's true, and he was rehabbing today, So we'll see. But the guys that were already on ir some of them, that's such
a that's such a bother. The guy they need back is Neville Gallimore, and I'm not sure, you know, it may be four or five weeks for him with a dislocated as we were thinking. I think we were thinking after the bye, after the bye. Yeah, yeah, regardless of what they said in the preseason, it would looked like, okay, from an injury like that, after the bye would be the earliest, he would think. So it's not where they have to do a rod or anything. Put it in there.
No they I don't think they did surgery. Yeah, okay, yeah, okay, because at the time that he was hurt, we were thought, oh, well, it's a season ender. And then he came back the next day and oh the good news is he can be back this year and he didn't have to do surgery. Yeah. So, and by the way, we talk a lot about Michael Parsons and um and the way his impact on the game.
How about that third round pick osa Odigazooa in that game, Yes, because he created let me remember, he created the sack that got I think it was his pressure that pushed him to the side and Vanderesh was right there, which I figured out. It took them eighty eight minutes to get the first sack of the season because it happened at the two minute mark of the first half. They can get any of the first game, so it took a while, but they got six times six times more takeaways,
that's right. Actually they got two sacks tas Okay, and you got the six time. Ovis right, got six takeaways, which, by the way, the league it does, it does number one. Boy, that's shades of nineteen. I've been I've been calling for it for how long? How about this the culture? I got you, I got you your early mix shot. Okay, Chris has gotta be on it. Oh, there it is. They have now forced takeaways in their last nine games, seven from last year and then the first two this year.
Last year and in the last right they are a plus fourteen. How about that after they struggled the whole How long did it take before they registered one last year? All I know is they didn't get the sixth takeaway last year until the eighth game. Okay, that's what it was. And then halfway through the season and they got the fourth interception in the eleventh game. And now they've already
got um four. So bring back last year's DC. Yeah, Bring bring back the quarterbacks they were playing again last year. Bring back the COVID casualties. The other team even scored because remember they played Cincinnati, Burrow was out for the year. I mean, you run down the list. In fact, Jalen Hurts was one of those that they got their facing this week. So last year or in those last seven games, they had sixteen takeaways and then he had six. Now
that's twenty two and nine games. My son and I missed him out with a little blog thing that he has, and he pointed that out to me. I had forgotten it was so bad last year. I've forgotten how well defensively we kind of picked it up before they kind of rebounded in those last few games. I don't know if it had to do with who they were playing. One of the one of the most misleading stats from last year's team was the fact that they finished defensively
finished seventh in the league in takeaways last year. Yeah, seventh in the league. They had twenty six takeaways last year, and it was all at the end of the season. I'll make that twenty three takeaways. Twenty three takeaways, thirteen by fumble and ten interceptions. They're defense, did I? But I say it's misleading because the horse was out of the barn by the time. Yeah, you mean hors You mean the horses were running right throughout defensive line, that's right. Yeah, Yeah,
he was definitely out of the barn. They if I remember correctly, he's twenty three, so they were twenty They were the twenty third ranked defense in yards given up and thirty thirty first against the run, and only the Falcons were worse. I looked it up. I think it was one of the teams who played this preseason, either Jacksonville or Houston. Yeah, that sounds like Jacksonville. Ye. If I was going to pick, it'd be Jacksonville. And now
they're thirty first after two weeks against the pass. Well, yeah, they who they faced, Brady Good justin Herbert and and that's factored. It's only factored on yards, so setting both
of them passed for like three thirty something. Yeah, So even though the last quarterback they faced passed for three hundred and thirty eight yards or whatever it was, and one of them was huge in the red zone, they've given up seven hundred crazy kind of third down play that would have if they settled for the field goal there. They take a seventeen fourteen lead in the fourth quarter, They've given up seven hundred and seventeen yards passing and
two games. The reason I was still surprised is because so many quarterbacks throwing for over three hundred yards. I'm really surprised that it's still a number that's that's you know, so high as far as ranking, I assume that I've seen some horrible pass defense, way worse than I was in the end, just in his first two let me tell you something. Those passing yards the defense is giving up, they're going down this week, they're going down his way
against jal and the Eagles. Let's hope the rushing yards don't go up. Well right now, I don't want to jinx it, but the Philly is just really not a team that looks confident at all, especially after last week. They couldn't run the or pass they look confident they played Atlanta. Yeah, but but I mean if you look at last week's game, except for the like ninety one yarder, you know that was a lot of inconsistencies, especially against the trying to run the ball. They didn't run the
ball well at all. It put it put Jalen and his offense in a bad position. Jalen had three hundred and sixty four yards passing against Atlanta in a thirty two to six win, and he is averaging seventy two yards rushing a game. To your point, he's the twelfth leading rusher in the NFL. Right now. I looked it up and he leads the Eagles with I think it's one hundred and forty four yards rushing. All right, let's dive into more of that. When Mick shots continues. Oh ready,

get your scouting reporter you need to know. I think that the key thing for this whole deal was making sure Jalen Hurts doesn't beat you with his feet and the Graham doesn't come back from injury. Yeah. I think that's not happening. He's right, Yeah, he's out the Achilles. Yeah. To me, that's the biggest thing. I really think that. I mean, he's he's a guy that can five up that defensive line. Fletcher Cox, He's how old is Fletcher Cox? Ancient? Yeah? Because you know it looks like it takes him a
while to get fired up out there. But once he does get fired up, you know, it's it's so hard to stop it from going downhill type of thing. You know who's playing well for them on their defensive line, it's the guy next to Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave. He is he had two sacks against Atlanta, he had two tackles for loss against San Francisco. And that guy is what number ninety seven? He's huge, yeah, and I mean
he is huge. If you do if you took the numbers off both the players, you would have with Fletcher Cox's reputation in this lake, you thought, oh, there's Fletcher Cox doing you know, or you or you switched their numbers. He could be ninety one and not ninety seven. He's only thirty. Fletcher Cox is thirty that he's in his tenth season. When you're playing defensive line, thirty years old,
six time Pro bowler Fletcher Cox. So um so the Cox's play has leveled off here because once he reached the age of thirty, Hardgrave has taken up the slack for him and he's he's a he's are we talking Connor? Are we talking zach Um Well they're in a four three, so I don't know the thing with Hargrave two he was with Pittsburgh three four four, so he was out of That's what I remember. Yeah, I don't know if they designated on their depth chart right and left or nose.
And I think they just got clisted his defensive tackles. Let's see here. Uh yeah, just defensive tackles Hargrave and clocks. Because when you look at how we played, obviously the offensive line overall played extremely well. You have a few mistakes, but you know that's a given. I still see Connor Williams seems to be having some problems with power rushes. Well he's that's kind of been his problem, yeah all along. Yeah, but you know they would they only sack Dac one time. No, No,
there's no doubt about it. That and that one sack. Uh he was driven back, Yeah right, they got him call Kyler Facral got him coming around the edge around Tying late in the game. Yeah, that's one. That one and then the other one which I talked with before, that was a whiff. Yeah. I don't know what the heck happened on that play, but tywone just he got by Tylwane so fast. Yeah, I know where even throw
the ball. Yeah, I think he was shocked. So going back to Hurts, they don't get the ball much down the field. If you look at his his average per attempt is seven point eight yards, but he's got a ninety Without the ninety one yard completion, he's averaging the other attempts, he's averaging six point three, so he's checking down a line. Even with DeVante Smith, he's only averaging like eight yards a catch. I believe when you look
at the Eagles, everything is about defense. Yes, you know, you have to play off the defense, So they're not going to try and do anything too extravagant. The ninety one yarder last week, that was an extreme aberration because I've never seen I don't think they've completed anything over fifty yards in quite some time as Eagles passing game goes, and that was an exception and they still didn't score.
So I take it back. DeVante Smith's averaging ten point nine a catch, but that's not really you know, out of the realm, right, So the key thing for their whole deal so far, they've only given up two touchdowns. You know, they win thirty two to six, and then they lose seventeen dollars once again first week. Yeah, against it. That's a whole nother thing. You know. I have to give each team respect because the players still played and they still make their money, and some of them are
still extremely good. But as a team, I wouldn't boast too much about doing well against the Falcons. So when you look at those you should do. Yes, Yes, when you look at those stats, I'm looking at what did they do against the team that's a little bit more capable, And that's when you look at the forty nine ers, and defensively the nine is just they had the ninety one yard and still didn't score a touchdown. After the
nineties they did not score a touchdown. The scores fourteen to three, so they end up kicking a field goal. I don't even know if they kicked a field goal on that one. I just know that that was the only shining I'm telling you, it was the only shining glory that they had for that game. I was watching the game because I was doing my scouting report looking forward to playing the Eagles, and it just wasn't much to report. So you better watch out for quez Watkins.
He can get behind you. You better watch out for being too complacent. Yes, because when they look at that film, they're going to you know, you could potentially let your guard down. Well, I think the other offensively when you see offensively. The other thing that the cowboys have to watch out for, uh is hurts running the ball. I don't know. Everything's a scramble or I'm sure there's some design runs like zone read. Yeah, seventeen forty four, so
he's averaging eight and a half yards of carry. And now my question to you guys, is is he the type of guy you got a spy? Yes, keep somebody and who because your choice I don't know who is that guy? Eleven sounds good? They just throw a number out there. It's like, let's get a guy who runs a four three? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll tell you what I wouldn't number twenty seven he could be. He could be a good spy. You got Kaz Deep. You have him there, who was very instinctive on the place that
he makes. That would be a nice alternative and keeping Parsons free on the outside to don't worry by spying. You just go get him. We have twenty seven curse waiting on him. If things go on, that would be a nice little way. So without Armstrong, but Gregory back. Assuming Armstrong is out for a couple of weeks, do you want him on the line of scrimmage or do you want him at linebacker? I want him on the
last scrimmage only because Armstrong's gone. He's only because if Armstrong's out, all right, what about Chauncey Gholston if he's ready to go. If he's ready, was inactive last week, right, my world would be unproven. See here, here's the deal with part persons. If they're gonna just use him as a designated pass rusher and he only gets thirty seven snaps, I'd rather him have fifty snaps at linebacker. I would rather have fifty snaps as a pass rusher now, because
then they'll run right at him. You keep saying that I care, I'm gonna I don't care. Wow, No, then they're gonna run that. I don't want his hand on the ground. I want him standing up somewhere now. He said, just put me whereever. I'll do both. He wanted to do both. He wanted to play. He's he's saying whatever was best for the team. And that's what I'm trying to figure out, what's best for the team. Yeah, where
where do they need his help? Didn't they needed at linebacker to shadow Hurts, they needed at defensive end to try to create some pressure because he did have four pressures, he had one sack. He only had two tackles. So that's somewhat concerning. Before they've got to be able to set the edge before they started coming out with you know,
the dime packages on first down. When I was in with Belichick in New York, you know, first down obviously run situation, I'm at corner, and then of course when it's second and long, which it usually was, but they will tee out there second and long or whatever, then I would move back to safety. So can the true safe, true safety not in the nickel or anything. I mean, no, no, no slot, no, no move in safety and sometimes in
the slot of course. Yeah, that's that was a straight So yeah, we would do that, but it would have to be a true passing down. We had to look at it defensively as a true passing down. So that could be the same thing with Parston's having true run situation. Having as a linebacker were second and long, third and long. Put them at the at the defensive end, and let them go. Let the bull run, Let the bull run. All right, let me take you talked about the ninety
one yard pass last week for the Eagles. I found what happened after that, and you're right, they did not score. They did not kick a field goal either. Here's what happened. They went ninety one yards on the first play of that possession to the San Francisco six yard line from their own three to the San Francisco six, and then the next play they got a false start. So now they're first and goal at the eleven. Hurts incomplete to a running back, and then hurts incomplete pass interference on
Josh Norman. So now they get a new set of downs out of the one yard line. Okay, at the one yard line, Hurts incomplete for intended for zach Ertz. Second and goal at the one, Sanders loses three yards. Now, third and goal at the four, Hurts right in for one yard, fourth and goal at and then it was the Greg Ward incomplete intended for Hurts. Yeah, it looked cute though from the beginning, that's all. It was sort of when you know you're not trusting your quarterback. Well
that's why you know you have no running game either. Well, yeah, that's when you know you have no running game, because otherwise one yard line come on then, so you don't. Actually we're first in goal at the three and couldn't do anything, and then they get a pass interference and so they get a new set of downs at the one at the point four point from the ball. So how many they have seven plays? So they had seven plays on the goal line and could not score. So
there you go. And see that's the thing you got where about what hurts? And I know that he's not where he should be. But if you have a defense that is controlling things and confounding your offense for some strange reason, he is that guy that can manage it. He can manage your offense. And I don't want him to be comfortable in that manner. I want him to have to I want him to have to force things the way San Francisco forced them to do things and
they couldn't make it happen. But as opposed Atlanta, and I hope they're going to be coming out there playing like Atlanta defensively to where you know, he was able to do everything you wanted. Yeah, because defensively they weren't threatened at all. They just couldn't do anything. Atlanta couldn't do anything. Say it would be behooved the Cowboys to
get into a two score lead. Yes, and force him to play quarterbacks, will force him to play a true quarterback, right and confusing and make him have to process because that wasn't one of his strengths in college at Oklahoma. It's kind of the same deal as what the Patriots did with the rookie quarterback for the Jets this past week, Zach Wilson. All right, we'll start paying attention, pay attention? Oh we work? Is it better not trip up on the word? Was paying attention? He was? Bicky's over there with the discert get the rule around. Don't start all right? So what are we looking for as the Cowboys get back to
work and officially start Eagles Week tomorrow on Thursday? What are the what are the storylines this week that you're looking for? Um? I think first and foremost, how they um line up defensively with you know, seemingly week to week they're having to make changes, um, you know, testing the depth on this team for guys to have to step in, So, you know, do they get Donovan Wilson back? Do they? Uh you know, are the other guys ready? You mentioned Gholston, Is he ready to go? Are they
going to lose Armstrong and Watkins in this game? And then uh, you know you are already using odiggy zoo. Is Bohanna ready to step in or to have to move urban to the defensive tackle spot? So there's a little bit of juggling that that has to go on on the you got depth, I think yeah, I think so and and and the versatility of Parsons that can kind of plug kind of Heck, if you had to play safety, well I don't want him in space. Who else? Who else would go to play? Exciting? Who else? Yeah? Really?
Who else is UH as diverse, maybe close to being as diverse as Parsons on this team on the front seventh the front seven, Well, Kean O'Neil somewhat, although he hasn't, but he's from the back end to the yeah, but not to the front. And you talked about Curse being flexible, Yeah, from the back end right to go because he because they moved him up into like a slot spot because at one point they played three UH safeties, they played three defensive linemen, two linebackers. Um, so they kind of
mixed it up. And as we saw as a matter of fact, um, I heard Jerry Jones say, you know, somebody said, oh, you know, what did you think about Zack Martin? You know whatever, Focus rated him the top rated player in the league. I'm not going to give him any whatever because they grades, they graded him the
highest of anybody. And somebody asked Jerry about it, and Jerry said, well, I'll tell you who we graded the highest was jay Ron Curse that that he was number one graded defensive player on the team in that game. And you know, we talked about him yesterday with all the different things he did, uh, stepped in as a starter, stepped in in the slot to kind of take on the tight end, and we talked about the unsung performance
against Tampa. Yeah and still but not so one song in this game because they finally called his name and gave him some love. Right the commentary Womo was saying, talked about how good as instincts were. You just didn't even hear that doing the Tampa game at all. Yeah, well, you didn't hear much of it. When they first signed him. It was like an oh, well, special teams guy that can play a little safety. He looks good in his uniform. He really does six four or good to like us
out there. Yes, and then I think the other thing, Bill is the consistency. Can Terrence Steele do this again? Players? In a matter of fact, he got to go out there and be one of the interviewed players today and see, that's what I was That's what I was gonna say. I think I would number one challenges. How do we hand the success? Yeah, yeah, we've we've done a good job two games. And instead of falling back on oh we almost beat Tampa and then we did win this game,
Let's just look at the loss as something unusual. Let's look at what we did against the Chargers as the norm and take that on, I mean as far as we can take. And don't get lulled into this comfort that, oh Steele played well and we're going to turn him loose by himself. I don't I don't know that he's ready for that. On sixty snaps, you know, keep that tight end over there in times, keep chipping over there, give him some help and uh, and then see how he does, see how it is going in a couple
one on one pass rush type takes. But you know, if he can be consistent over there, you know, and and it keeps building to think that you can maybe solve that swing tackle spot with an undrafted guy. Uh that comes on and as we know at times, guys, you know, offensive linemen take time to develop. I mean think about you know, heck, Nate Newton, h Mark two and a right two guys came into the league undrafted and ended up dominating right, and it ended up in
the in the Pro Bowl. So, um, I think if I remember correctly, Gogan was like a seventh round PA. He was too much. The only guy I know what started the fight at the Pro Bowl. During the Pro Bowl game, I think Randy White might have pulled the only game. Yeah yeah, right, yeah, exactly. Um, he started a fight in a pre season games. It's like, Randy, what are you doing doing? It was hot, I don't want to be out there an he was mad at
early stout there. He took that helmet and banged Borts over the head in a preseason So so here's what I'm looking at. Okay, So if I'm if I'm the Eagles and I'm thinking, Okay, what's the best I can do with the Cowboys offensively? I'm not looking as far as the Cowboys offense, I'm not looking at controlling them. I'm going to have an issue with them. This is coming from the Eagle standpoint. What can I do? The
offset that it has to be the running game. It has to be their running game, the Eagles running game. So I'm looking for him to come out and they're gonna try to smash mouth us. That's the only chance, right, They're gonna try to smash mouths and see, Okay, we saw you give up some yards. We've seen you give up yards. You've statistically you're doing well, but we've seen some weaknesses and breakdowns in tackling and especially in key
situations and moving the chains. So to me, smashmouth football is the best chance they well, if you think about it. So you know, we get caught up in all the passing and things. Chargers average five yards of carry. They did what the Cowboys give up, and I was extremely frustrated watching them. Yeah, what they give up last year five yards of carry defensively when they gave up all those yards against the run. There were times they came out I don't know if you saw it. They slipped
in and unbalanced. They slipped in and unbalanced, and they ran the ball. We all it was all clogged up in the middle. Digs comes on the outside. All he had to do was make the tackle. He could have made the tackle for a loss. No one blocked him anything. The running back just ran right inside of him and it wasn't I just remember that play because it was unbalanced. It was so unusually. They only did that one time
in the game. But when you look at all the mistakes you made, lots of mistackles, they weren't even good. They were good running backs to where you missed those kind of tackles. I mean, we had them dead to rights at times, and somehow they ended up still averaging five yards to carry and no big runs, just one. You were consistent. Heckler had one twenty yard runs and that was the only double digit runs. Otherwise they would I mean he might have had another one all the
but they were dicing us. They were dicing and key situation. You got second and twelve, you're gonna give up ten yards on the run. Now the third and short. See it's not the third and two of the bathers you, it's the second and long the bathers. You if we can control that, I just remember that's what we used to do in Dallas, and with the Giants, we controlled once we got them in a negative situation, we kept them in a negative situation. We didn't let them out of the box. And we did that a lot in
the ball game. Second and twelve, second and thirty, first and fifteen, and they end the running the ball and putting themselves in great position for third downs. You know, there was a couple of times out there they ended up going with a three man line and played more linebackers. And if you think about it, the strength of this defense right now is the depth at linebacker. So maybe
you try to get more linebackers on the field. I love it, love it, love it, which which ends up with Parsons, you know, maybe standing up as an outside outside linebacker. Right, So, how do you like? How do you like a base three four of whoever you want to put down? It's down lineman. You can't have Bohannah Urban well Watkins if he was Watkins, if he was healthy, really need him diggi zoa right, so right now, since Watkins, we will call him out Bohannah odiggazooa and Urban right okay.
And then you've got Randy Gregory and Michael Parsons on the edges and inside a Vanderesh and Jalen or Vanderesh and Keyan ou'neil. So have you come out, you Jalen Hurts and you come out and you see that, do you audible to like throw the ball? Yeah? Um, keep it going to keep some mask mouth, keep this math mouth. Before you're bringing five, Cowboys are bringing five regardless. They just got to figure out which five are coming on the three four. Yeah, yeah, exactly, and then try to run.
Because see if if the other thing you can do on that is you could play. Vanderesh and Jalen can both play outside linebacker. Yeah, Vanderesh camp Yeah, I mean he was a Pro Bowl week side line but everybody forgets that about him because of his injuries. Right, he was the first rookie linebacker to go to the Pro Bowl in Cowboy history. I mean, I can see I'm talking in a three four Vanderesh can play, he could play.
He could play outside linebacker in a three four where you could play Parsons inside even alongside Keyan O'Neil in a big nickel type you know situation. So yeah, I think they got things to work. There's multiple things the not we on right, right, and and then you got curse in the equation too, and if Parsons is in the middle there, then he keeping all right. So let's tomorrow.
Let's talk about the player acquisition and what dan Quinn's doing in this defense where the Cowboys are better suited to face these type offenses, these college spread offenses that are now prevalent in the NFL. And I'm talking the jay Ron Curses and Kean O'Neil's safety types who are now playing linebacker. That's becoming the rage now in this league.
And let me give you for our last word goes to Jerry Jones, who I heard say of Michael Parsons, we thought he was the best defensive player in the draft, and that's why we didn't cut our throats when we didn't get a corner. And he has that because he has so much flexibility for what he can do on defense. Okay, and he's proving it out. Yes, all right, best player defensive player in the draft. I'm just a defensive player. I don't play in a position that's right, that's right
on the field, football player that's right. All right. That knows it For Mick Shots, We'll talk at you again tomorrow. Go Cowboys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
