The following. He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Cowboys. This is Nick Shot screaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys at now Here are Bill Jones, Everson Walls, and Nicky Spagnola. I thought this was a Wednesday edition of a Fabulous Football Fight Song. Friday edition Mick Shots, our last episode. There we go, Dallas. It's almost game

day here on Mick Shots. I mean we are looking at twenty six and nine, exactly twenty seven hours away from kickoff three thirty on Thanksgiving afternoon. I'm talking about it being the first touch back of the game, right now, do you think, Well, I just think it's gotten to be pretty silly. We get all fired up for the kickoff, right and everybody's standings, and then it's a touch back. It's so it's like it's ceremonial. Yeah right, it's yeah,

that's all it is. That's all it's good for. It's like the start of the game's anti climax until you see, I was kind of like the start of mix Shots was anti clack. But let's go back now to be real. I'll kickoff coverage sucks? Can we say that? Can we say that they get touch backs right man? Because they they were giving the Chiefs offense great feel position. That's true, I mean every time. And that guy's pretty good too. Is remember his name Hardman? I thought it was Byron

Pringle that was returning. Yeah, we are inside the s WBC podcast studio and we're getting your suck for the Cowboys and the Raiders three thirty toon on CBS with Jim Nance and Tony Romo on the call. And the short work week is almost over. The Raiders probably boarding a plane very quickly out west in Las Vegas, headed this way, and the Cowboys are taking a shower and eating the lunch there you go, all right, because they already get us up to get us up to speed

on what's going on from behind the scenes. I can tell you this much. I sure am glad. Chris Beam, our producer, sends out those alerts. Uh, this is the first time I've ever noticed them on my iPad because an hour ago, I'm sitting there at home, I got family in town. I'm all distracted and everything. Okay, I got an hour to prepare for mix shots and then I get I see that alert. I'm like, oh, that's right, we're an hour early today. I quickly got dressed and

headed this way. We haven't distractable teammate. That's right, that's right, So bring me up to speed. All right, let's go. H Tyrant's uh practice. Um. You know, it was sort of a cross between what they do on Saturday before a Sunday game and what they do on Friday with the mock game walkthrough. So uh, it was about i'd say an hour almost an hour practice, maybe not quite. Yeah, it was an hour uh and uh and now they're ready. So Tyran Smith practiced. Uh. And as long as everything

went well today, he's playing tomorrow. Yeah, don't don't help me in suspense. Uh. Now with uh ceedee lamb uh. He's he's practiced today. He was dressed for what they did. And as Mike McCarthy said, he needs to complete the last component of the concussion protocol uh today and then he has to see the independent doctor the neurologists to be the one that clears him. So so as everybody knows, um, and they can finalize it tomorrow. By the way, so even if there's a you know, something that needs to

wait till tomorrow. They can do that. The Cowboys doctors will will look at him, clear him, and then he's got to go to the independent guy that's usually not usually that is always on the sideline for these things on game day. It's like once your doctor checks the guy that shows that he has signs of a concussion, um, the neurologist has to check him and that's the last guy that has the say. So of course they probably don't come around and until you get that diagnosis, and

then he probably comes and hangs around. I don't I don't know if he might be there. No, he's on the sideline the whole all the time, the whole game well, I mean practice. Oh now, no, he didn't know. He would just go to the doctor and he would get checked out. So that's the last hurdle. As Mike said, If he keeps progressing the way he has, were very hopeful. So um, that sounds you know, encouraging, but again it's a concussion and you just really uh never know. Also, uh,

they started the practice clock for DeMarcus Lawrence. Uh, he was in practice today, so they get him going on a kind of an easy pace. But by Sunday, he'll be ready to go, And Mike McCarthy said, the goal is to have him ready for New Orleans. So he would have practiced yesterday, but he had a funeral to attend um, so he got the workout in today and then he'll get Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, he'll be able to

get Thursday, and also right before the game. Oh yeah, he'll do that rehab and that's he can do whatever the team does right right, So that that would be the reason, a big reason why you would go ahead and pull the trigger on it now right that it shows they are really confident he'll be ready to go next year. And Keane O'Neill was just talking about it.

They said, you know what, just having his presence on the sideline really helps, you know, He went and said, you know, we all know about his ability to stop the run, we know about his ability to rush the quarterback, but just having his voice out there, his leadership he goes, makes a huge difference. And he thought the last couple of games with him on the sideline really helped out talking to Michael Parsons between possessions. So that's encouraging. Randy Gregory.

It sounds like Washington would be his game. Same thing, which is the week after new or Yeah, so to get another ten days so they can start his practice thing and then I have him ready and Neville Gallimore. Maybe Washington, but sounds like more like the the next week, the next week, which is Giants, right, Giants. Yeah, So you think about how dilapidated we were, really we are, I mean, you forget about these guys. Well, that's the thing coming out of the Kansas City game where yeah,

Kansas City took it to the Cowboys on Sunday. But then I'm looking at you know, Kansas City had you know, Matthew was hurt, and he went ahead and played on Sunday because they needed to win. They were bunched up in their division. They got the running back back Clyde Edwards Hilaire as well, he had missed the previous five games. But then you're coming out of this game and the Cowboys had so many injured guys, and these aren't injured guys that are out for the season. These are injured guys.

They're about to get back here in the next couple of weeks. I felt much better about where the Cowboys are, right now, I mean they played Kansas. It was a nineteen to nine game. What you know what it wasn't pleasing what Cowboys fans saw. But when you know what you're getting back here, I mean you're looking at basically four starters on your defense of line and Randy Gregory, DeMarcus Lawrence, Brent Urban and Neville Gallimore. You know that are coming back. And then you played half the game

without CD. You played the full game with them without Amari, and they're coming back and how many games without Tyrant and then Tyrant? Yeah, and then you're looking at the effort. To me, the effort kind of make you put these the guys at the engine in the back of your mind because the effort, you see, even though they took it to them, they hung in there. I talked about the game being boring. Boring games are because of good defense.

That's what you want and if you could win boring, Yeah, but we also kept them from the fireworks, so to speak. And that's because our defense actually showed up. And with a matter of fact, I've got a T shirt from I think it was the late seventies Chicago White Sox and it says winning ugly and They weren't pretty love, but they were just scrapped, scrapping around to try to win games, winning and that's what and that's what Kansas

City did on somethday. They won ugly. But when you look at the big picture of this Cowboy's roster, and I think you compare it with Kansas City's roster even I like where the Cowboys are right now, assuming everybody comes back and they're healthy and they can finish strong. How about this that a hill sighting? Did I see a hill sighting? Tristan Hill? Yes, he played that right. He's out there and he and he had a pressure, at least he did. So here's some words for cowboy

fan to live by. It came from Kean O'Neill and he was asked what is he told the young guys on the team, because you still have seven games to go, right, is still a long season. And what he said, I think is a good advice for the cowboy fan. He said, I told him to stay in the present, let the season take care of itself, don't start looking down the road, don't look in the future, focus on the next game. And I think that's what the Cowboy fan should think.

Of right now, because everybody's worried about after a win, they're going to win the Super Bowl. After a loss, they're not going to even get into plays. Just let the season play out. And part of the fun is the is the path to the to the end of the season, all right, And you too have to leave early today, right, we do, and so we need to die. We're going to dive into the Raiders. We're going to make picks. Anything else. You need to bring us up to speed on here. Yes, And we also, I think

need to recognize the one year. Um gosh, it's not an anniversary one year since Marcus Paul suffered his stroke. It was one year ago today and he passed away the next day. So one year ago from the Cowboys game on Thursday. So yeah, and if you think about it, that's when last year, at this time, the Cowboys world came to a standstill. They called off practice on Tuesday, they did very little on Wednesday after they found out

that he did pass away. Twenty three years as a coach in the NFL, he had been a player, And as Mike McCarthy said, we've got eighty four guys in the locker room and forty of them weren't here last year. They didn't know Marcus Paul and they had a special he made a special presentation about him yes yesterday Tuesday, just trying to tell him. You know what he was about the fact that he coached that long in the NFL had five Super Bowls with the Patriots in the

Giants got five Super Bowl rings. And I thought that the neat thing he said, not about his strength and conditioning job, but he said he was talking about the strength and conditioning coaches, the equipment guys, and the trainers, and he called them they're the bartenders of our culture

because they touch the whole team. Right. And some of the guys talked about how much he gave them a vice about life, about raising children and just how you live, and so they trusted him to bring certain topics up to around him, right. And Mike said, if you're looking for an example, Marcus is that person. And it's amazing. It seems like it's a long time ago, but it was last year at this time. Pandemic makes it it

does make it seem like that. Yeah, And when that happened, that was you know, couldn't happen at the worst time. I mean, of course it couldn't happen. You don't wanted to happen anytime. But and Mike, it just piled on top of all the other things. And I think Mike got surprised about it. During his press com frience on Monday, was it it was early and he floked at Rich Dalrymple. He goes, yeah, thanks Rich for preparing me for that.

But he knew and he remembered that at five fifty in the morning, they walked from the parking garage into the facility and he said. Marcus said, oh, oh, I gotta go back. I'll left my phone in the car, and he goes, and that's the last time I saw him. So anyway, I thought we owe it to him to at least bring him up, and mentioned how much he meant to this team in the two years he was here. Good jobs. Yeah, all right, We continue with more mix shots in just a moment. Hey, Cowboys Fins, ready to

got the list here? Okay, we have Darren Woodson and DeMarcus Ware named as semifinalist. Former Cowboys Zach Thomas also on the list. Of course he was just here briefly. Uh. Eddie George is on the list as well. But anyways, what a six time for Woody to be a semifinalist, can you believe that? And of course first time for Ware it's his first time to be eligible. Yeah, I believe that's right. I would say it. For Woody it

is his sixth time. He was also a semifinalist in two thousan fifteen, twenty seventeen, and then this is the fourth straight year he has been a It's twenty six and they will cut down to fifteen before they vote on Super Bowl weekend. Right, how many Super Bowls does wood He have? Three? Three Super Bowls? Three? Yep, he was there all three of them in the nineties. And he can't he can't get Come on, man, I mean this twelve year career. I've always thought about the bias. Man,

the bias is real. I'm sorry, the bias is real. I don't know how the heck we got here but you know, you bring up DeMarcus where his numbers? I mean, who's whose record did he break here with the Cowboys? Yeah? You know Harvey Martin? Right, I mean, and he can't get Harvey Martin mentioned this is the Super Bowl MVP. And John Lynch got in as a safety. Uh. Now the year I came in and then who was the other guy by Brian? Uh? He made me so mad I didn't get in. He got in's with Philadelphia Dawkins.

Bryan Dawkins. I'm sorry Woody versus Dawkins. You know, I'm sure who was the other safer? Fans and Philly fans feel differently, But I take Woody any any day of the week. The other safety last year, the guy from Denver was it at Water? Yeah, That's that's what got me. Man. I would have been iouadly fussed about that. You can change, you would be was Dad's a guy that's crazy. Yeah, and so even I can fuss all I want, But Woody at Water Corn to me, it's just a no

braining because the diversity that Woody showed. He wasn't just a safety. He came down into the slot and covered wide receivers. He came out of college as a linebacker, so his his the his ability to adapt. That's why I was saying about DBS, it's a little bit easier for us to adapt the way Woody went from being a safety to a slot corner. That's about as hard as going from left tackle to right tackle. You understand, probably even more difficult because you can't change your size.

You know, you can't change your talent level. When you're guarding somebody who's twenty pounds lighter than you can probably have got at least two tenths of a second on you. And the other thing is and I don't know what his stats are on this, but I think till the day he quit, he was on special teams. You know, every year, UM coach Joe was going to take him

off special special teams. And then when the season started, it's like, well, you know what do we need you to let's go yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, listen, I gotta say special teams I always help me, help me. Whom up you know, helped me keep keep You know, you run down on their first especially now since you don't have to cover kicks, you can just run down, just get a spring and then cheer when it's a touchback. We stopped him at the twenty five. So there are

your Hall of Fame semifinalists with Cowboys ties. Okay, congratulations. So for the Raiders defense, Mike McCarthy pointed out that, uh, they're a man to man and he said, and that's probably not going to change. So it comes down to

the Cowboy receivers winning uh their share of the plays. Uh, and it certainly would help if ceedee Lamb actually can play, so uh, give them something else to think about, more so than you know, taking guys out, because if you go back and look at this last game, there wasn't a lot of open receivers either other than that first play of the game, right. Uh, So uh, you know everybody, and I get so tired of it. And I'm sure I said it yesterday. It's like, Okay, Dak's got to

put the team on his shoulders. Well, it's hard to put ten guys on your shoulders. This is a darn team game, the most pure team game in sports. And the quarterback gets the glory, gets the blame. Um, but most of it is unfair when you when you look at our difficulties, it always from constant pressure right anytime we've had we've had problems last two losses, last two losses, lots of pressure and with blitzes. The problem that we're

having is we're getting pressure. Teams are getting pressure without blitzing sometimes, and that is what you don't depend on. If I'm dak, I'm sitting up here, I read the defense, Well, it's not a blitz. I don't have to audible to anything. I don't have to check to anything. Here we go and it feels like a blitz. But now I've got receivers running deeper routes because I didn't. I didn't check the hot. I don't check the hot because that's no blitz.

And we're still getting pressures if there is one, Yeah, and they will uh. It looked like I saw a stat where they can bring they've been good at bringing pressure without blitzing's because of number ninety eight. So that would be Max Max Crosby. And then I'm gonna let you say the other guy's name the other unique way. That's good. That's why bills are broadcaster and Leon Collins was asked about their their guys and he said, well, he goes those those defensive ends there and there, and

they work by the Marinelli rule. They're coming to bring pressure to defend the run on the way to the quarterback. Stopped the run on the way to the quarterback. When we played with the Cowboys, our entire uh uh existence was playing off the off the receiver just most of the time. You had to you had to have a backpedal. If you didn't have a backpedal with the Cowboys, he

wasn't gonna work. But there are teams. When I went to the Giants, the pressure that you put when you jam the wide receivers playing man to man, it makes the quarterback hesitated just to beat so that he's got to trust that wide receiver to beat that guy off the line of scrimmage to get his position immediately. Because we're talking still timing routes, whether it's man to man

or or it's it's off or on right. So these guys are gonna be playing on because every time Denver they pressed our receivers and they sat down on about same thing's gonna happen here, and you're gonna have to make a decision to you to start going downtown more often, going deep more often, or you got to trust you guys to beat them in And I would imagine from a quarterback standpoint, when he sees that press coverage, it's either I trust him or I'm waiting until I'm sure.

And that's sometimes right the wait, Yeah, you don't want to wait. Like Okay, West Coast offense could not do anything. San Francisco can't do as much with teams that pressed the receiver us because it's all about timing. As far as Crosby goes, he's a he's a really interesting story. He's out of Colleyville Heritage High School, went to Eastern Michigan UH and his first year well he obviously it wasn't highly recruited out of Collyville Heritage and his first

year he was a fourth round draft pick. Fourth round draft pick out of Eastern Michigan and his rookie season had ten sacks for the Raiders. Interesting story about him though, at the beginning of the pandemic, he checked him himself into rehab for alcoholism, came back in time for the start of the season last year, had seven sacks last year and when you look at the guys who pressure the quarterback this year, he's got five sacks so far this year, but he ranks right up there at the

top of the league as far as quarterback pressure. How do you think the Scotts missed somebody like this? He might have grown into a defensive end's body. Maybe he wasn't that big lay developers happened all the time. I try six five, two and fifty five pounds ran a four six six redraft. So and here's the key on getting to the quarterback. That cone drill six eight nine, you get a sub seven and see de Marcus Ware was in that same range as six eight nine, and

it shows he can bend. It was like two fifty though, well this it is felt the same two fifty five. Okay, I'm still waiting to grow into that line back. That's funny. So you know it came up today. I was getting my hair cut and the gut it cuts my hair. So it's really nicer. He said. Grand he said, his granddaughter. It plays volleyball, and uh, she got his scholars up to a junior college. And I said, well she somebody that spikes or a setter, and he goes, probably she's

probably more of a setter. She's five ten and she's really good. But Uh, maybe she'll grow into somebody that can spike and I go, I don't think I grew anything out there high school. She's got some springs. Yeah, okay, we want to break now and come back with her picks and so forth. Yeah, let's okay, let's do that and that way we've got more time to make be

out of here. Really yeah, ticks too, by the way, all right, Mike Shots continues in a Moment of Honor is our country's highest military award for valor in combat. We used a SoundBite from you referenced Ezekiel Elliott jumping into the red kettle. And that's right. This was the actual This was that that vision of the past. It came into reality with what you were

doing at the Salvation Army. And did you say, because you're the one, I would have said bowl or something, But when you read kettle the other day, I remember that when I did best fit into the Big Bowl, the Big Grid Bowl. Yeah, did you mention? And you can get more like this on Dallas Cowboys says all right, another thing about the Raiders. Obviously, Rich Bosaccia's interim head coach, former special teams coach. Here a Raiders team that started

the season with high hope. So they started this season at three and zero and then um, it's been a season oil from rugs the wide receiver to Gruden. Uh, and now they've lost three straight games. This is a team to get the video of the guy waving his gun. The defensive back that also got off the team. They so here's their Their season has been streaks. They win three in a row to start the season, then they lose two in a row and Gruden has to resign.

Butsacchia takes over and they win two and it's like, oh, Rich, good job. And then they lose three in a row. So the two in a row that they won most recently at Denver and against phil Piladelphia, and then they lose to the Giants, Kansas City and Cincinnati. And they in that three game losing streak, they have not scored more than sixteen points. They had It was a three point game against Cincinnati in the fourth quarter and they

wound up losing thirty two to thirteen. It was a sixteen thirteen game in the fourth and just listening to them talk, they've had issues. Just as one of them put it, I think it was that Derek Carr could have been Besoccia shooting themselves in the foot defensively as far as on third down and then on offense to their third down, they haven't been successful. This is a

team like a couple of weeks ago Atlanta. You want to jump on them early and have a bounce half week just like you did and have about the same record as Atlanta. What did Atlanta there came in at five and I couldn't four and four. I can't hear out why how they were four and four and they but they were coming off of wins and the Raiders

are not. That's right. That's a big difference, right, And uh, and I think Besoccia is probably coming in you're having been here before with some extra motivation himself last year here is seventeen, I think twenty seventeen, well whenever Gruden got the job. Yeah, in Las Vega or Oakland at the time. So all right, So as we've got about you need to be out here at ten after ten, after we got help, you've got five minutes to get to your appearance that you're making I'm going to show

ever since my speed. Okay at the money here, Okay, we're fast walking. Another thing on the Raiders as far as their defense goes, as the first round draft pick, the safety out of TCU, Trey Von merrig Our, second round draft pick, he's forty third overall, another guy to keep an eye on for them on their defense. Um, and offensively they yeah Wallers the guy that yeah in here. You've got three straight weeks, and Kyle Pitts two weeks ago, and then Travis Kelsey this past week, and now you

got Darren Waller this week. So you know they they use a lot of jay Ron curse on the last two. Well on Kelsey, but there were cornerbacks that were on pits because the heat lines up out. He's on the edge a lot. And they do that with this guy too.

So how are you employing Michael Parsons this week? And not just not just looking at Kansas City versus Las Vegas and what they do offensively, but a Sunday game with little to no time to prepare for Thursday, And are you using Parsons the same way this game that you did last week? And also considering the personnel situation is basically the same on defense for Dallas. Well, based on what Oakland's gonna, Vegas is gonna have to do. I think he's got his Oakland colors onto Star. Yeah,

there you go away difference. I just think that they're gonna they're gonna have to try and run. I think they're gonna have to try and run the ball. And I think that should keep Parsons in the middle. Like you guys said, a lot of welcome that defensive end at that defensive end position it is, and I think they need to keep him more so uh in the middle and be more traditional as a linebacker, especially because

of raiders preparentsial to run the ball. So yeah, and I think when McCarthy answered that question and Parsons answered that question, it was about the same game starts at three twenty. Yeah, they're not going to reveal that reveal it. But and are maker you're going to reveal anything? Well, I mean what and this, this is what happens all the time during warmups. He's usually with the defensive ends,

not the linebackers. And that can continued. But even when he started at linebacker, which is what you're able to the media, is that we're able to see. And you know, even when he started at linebacker, he would work those individual drills with the defensive end and then he started at linebacker. So that's no different than what's went on last week when he did start at defensive end. Um,

So we'll we'll see what they do. I just got a feeling they're they're putting a premium on rushing the quarterback. I just think that although my druthers as he's in the middle of the defense because he can do more, I want to see a dozen tackle. They liked him on the ball. Yeah, they throw deep, they thrill deep, and that's going to kind of you know, go into my pick to click. But they they love they loved him on the ball. I think that running back ended

up getting hurt this year. The starting running back, Josh Jacobs. He's back now. He is back. That guy's good now. He is a good running back and if he's healthy, especially, he is a good Early on in the season when they were winning, they were winning on his legs and they got sort of a system the way the Cowboys do with Jacobs, and then he's backed up by Kenya and Drake, who's more of a two Alabama right and

talented guys. And they also picked up Peyton Barber. I don't know what the offensive line looks like, but they would rather pound you with the ball and makes him feel a lot more comfortable. So all right, So where are we going on these picks? Picks to click and so forth, since we've been so accurate. Yeah, and I'm stubborn too, because I gotta go with Polo Man, I really gotta go with polar I think I think Zeke's gonna, you know, willingly let him take a lot of plays

in this game. You know, these these two games in four days. That's just really not It's not doesn't help your knee at all. And so I think the coaches are gonna be a little bit more careful. And I think Keller Moore learned something. He's gonna have Polot more involved, especially the fact that he don't have uh Amari Cooper. I think he'll be more involved in the game plan,

be more versatile in how we use him. Still looking over one hundred years from scrimmage and with them guys, with them going down the field, God, I want to put digs in there every week, right, because you know this is his game to get a pick. When I play against the Raiders, they're gonna go deep. I'll take you look forward, you look forward, They're gonna go deep. They love going deep in routes. That's that's right in

his wheelhouse. So I think they're gonna try him, you know, because they know he's aggressive, you know, been there before, and uh so he's my kind of honorable mention Cowboys thirty one twenty three thirty one twenty three point for the Cowboys Shots secretary, write that down. That's it. Yeah, go ahead, Okay, you got yours down. He's already got his right, so I'm ready to write yours down for Since you were hesitant to take Diggs, I'll take them

for you. There you go. And you know, we're starting to trust the defense just a little bit. Which by the way, oh I turned the page. Darn it. Last year at this time after ten games, they were giving up thirty one point four points a game. So if you multiply that by ten, that's three hundred and fourteen points in ten games. This year it's twenty one point four. So they've made a ten point improvement from one year to the next. One defense, so I'm trusting the defense

in this game. I'm gonna say twenty four seventeen Cowboys, and I will take Trayvon Diggs getting number nine this Thursday for Thanksgiving Welcome nineteen eighty five. And if they get enough sacks, I think, yeah, right, that'll get USA eighty five. Right. And as Zeke said, if they get did Zeke say it? I think Zeke said it three picks or three sacks or something. It was Parsons, Parsons.

Parsons talked about it. They can ta challenges to get three picks, three sacks, three kicks, whatever, and then it can have the Turkey dance. Yeah, that's it was Parsons who said that. Yeah, yeah, I see the Turkey dance. Uhhh. So your score was twenty four seventeen, twenty four seventeen, all right. A couple of weeks ago Cowboys played Atlanta and it was a forty one seventeen win, and I picked it was a forty three to three win. I picked forty one to seventeen. Okay, all right. I woke

up at four forty four this morning for some reasons. Funny, I did too, exactly four forty four. It was quarter to five something like that. Well, that's close on, it's pretty close. So I woke up at four forty four and the first thing I thought of us my pick to click is number four. Okay, and he had a pretty good game against Atlanta two weeks ago, right, it was a forty three to three win. So forty four

to four ye no, okay, I'll go forty four to fourteen. Okay, okay, forty four to fourteen, and number four is going to have another big day. That's a cop out because number four needs to have a good day. Yes, but I also you could pick him every week, but I do think coming off a week like last week and a short week, it's number four who leads this team. And so number four is all right, you need to head down the hallway and over to the Omni for your appearance.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Safe travels, everybody, and I guess we mix shots. We'll be back on Monday, yes, so boy, you're and we'll be back to not only celebrate a victory over the Raiders, but also we'll be fast approaching to you, heading New New Orleans to take on the Saints next Thursday. Have a great weekend, everybody, go Cowboys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
