Mickey, you have a smile on your face. Did you guys grow up with that? So? I love that song. I don't know why it ever went away. Well, you know we grew up, man, Well we grew up. Well yeah, so the people that made the song grew up. I mean, come on, yeah, it is. We need to. We're bringing

it back here. We are bringing it back her childhood. Afterb Hayes was going ninety five yards when Cowboys were going to Super Bowls and and Mike McCarthy's childhood days. That's right, and now kicking up, Cowboys are going back to Super Bowl. He stopped down the press and feed. He stopped down the press conference today when he saw Roger Stabock walk through the fire. Wow, that's crazy. Oh

my god, this Roger. Well, it was kind of that way because they waved and and he looked and kind of waved back, and he said, he goes, oh, shook me. He goes the Super Bowl days. Yeah, what he would have done if Terry Bradshaw walked in. And then he kind of said he had never he had never met guy, never met Roger before. And so after the press conference, he and uh he was in uh Rich Dalrymple's office and they were he was talking with Roger. Yeah. Wow,

so he said it was my childhood yea yea. Even though do you think he was written for the Cowboys growing up in Pittsburgh? He said no, he said, but you know what he goes after the Cowboys drafted Tony Dorset, Yeah, anniversary of Ptsburg, he goes, we started following the Cowboy there you go. People forget how Dorset was. They forget just how big he was. Remember when he came to Dallas. You know, there was a whole Jr. Thing was going on at the time, and Tony comes to town and

it's like people were following him around. You how you weren't No, I wasn't there, my sister, I don't know how old were you. I was still in high school, high school and I was still in high school. For you to remember, he would go to clubs all the time and there was always something. The cops were following him all the time. He was like our first really star drama guy drama. Just I'm necessary. He's just riding around and girls are coming up to him. Guys want

to fight him, cops want to rest him. He's like, dude, I'm just try. He wouldn't even dry for the most has that ever happened with a running back since then? Oh, mirrors wanted to fall on his toes. Wow, I forgot about that, man. That was the only thing I could read. Yeah, yeah, we heard the mirror. Yeah. He was always trying to move stuff around. Dosset live by himself. He was he

was something else, man, That's that was my dude. But he was he was out with Jr. Because every if they knew Dosset was around, everything just went into chaos and it was just so crazy. It was crazy. Then we won the Super Bowls soon as he got here, right in um Walls against Craig more than in Denver, Broncos Broncos. So there you go. That brings it back today, and you want to mix shot on that, let's do it. Yeah, the last time the Cowboys beat the Broncos nineteen ninety five. Really, Wow,

they've lost sixth straight to him. Wow. I just happened to a bad one in Denver just five years. Yeah. I just happened to open up the book and I said, oh, what wasn't solect? Because I knew they had lost the last time they played him. I going the last time they beat him, and all of a sudden and I saw on the list Denver, Denver, Denver, Denver, Denver, Um But yeah, it was ninety five. So that's good. Look, look go further, go further back the other way. Yeah

to the teams. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, well you know that I don't. I don't flip through it enough anymore. And you know, if everything's online now, I used to know where every section in the because the media guide has been the same for fifty years. It seems like which is great, it's a great and it's alphabetical. It

is alphabetical. Yeah, all right, so good before okay, here we go to now, if I could just read September tenth, nineteen ninety five, a thirty one twenty one win in Dallas, was the last time what the Cowboys do that season they want and prior to that, in nineteen ninety two they beat Denver. What the Cowboys do that year they won a Super Bowl, and prior to that they got the last time they beat that the the last time they beat Denver prior to that nineteen seventy eight, they

went to a super Bowl. Then last time they beat Denver prior to that it was in the Super Bowl in seventy seven, and the first time they beat Denver was nineteen seventy three, didn't go to a super Bowl. It is a good streak though, of one, two, three, four straight wins regular well four straight wins over Denver where the Cowboys went to the Super Bowl or won a super Bowl in those years. So another omen coming up on Sunday, if the Cowboys came to beat if

they can only win. If they win, they're headed to the super Bowl. There you go. History tells us that. So we got so we got the Broncos and the Braves to figure this thing out, that's right, and the Bucks and the Bucks, that's right. Yeah. Oh okay, so from the well had no practice to watch today. Know practice, it's the region or whatever they call it, Friday Stay Day or whatever they call it, whatever they do, and then practice on Saturday. And how intense is the practice

on Saturday. It's it's like the normal Friday practice, which was so this no path we used to We used to go shorts and show the pads. Yeah, and they can't at our pads, a lot of them, you know. Even before then, that was kind of extreme, so to speak for a Friday, because most teams would just be in in just shorts, kind of a music. It's almost like a mini camp practice. They might wear their shells. I'm not I don't. I don't know what he does

because we don't get to see that practice. Um, but it's because the media wants to be off on Saturdays to watch college football. No, okay, because they do it on Saturday with no access, right, that's but the media hasn't called for access either. I bet they have. They have, and I think it's it's a travel day for the mate on a road game. I think it's indoors too, So yeah, we just don't know. Kind of it's kind of weird. No, I was here on a well, now

I got here late. They might have been finished by then. I had to stop in for the Cowboys Sports Tours reception. So how many padded practices for the for any team in the league the rest of the season, Well, it used to be. And I don't know if they added one for the seventeenth game, but it used to be you had thirteen. It was either eleven or thirteen, and you could not store them up for the last month

of the season. You have to be finished by certain point my understanding, and we weren't going in depth on it, but talking with the head coach or taping the show yesterday. And I may be wrong on this, but he said something about three after a certain date in November. You can have only only three after November eleventh or something like that. Yeah, you can't store them up, is the point? Right? So you're thirteen or however many it is for the full season. You can't say. It's like sick days. You

can't just store them up, yeah, vacation or losing. Yeah, and then I'm going to be sick that day in Bahamas and you can only use I believe the rule still is you only could use one a week, So you can't say, Okay, we're going heavy this week. Right, So the choices for let's say it's three after November eleventh, okay, which would mean well, November eleven, that's a Thursday. I'm

thinking maybe after Thanksgiving. Yeah, I can't remember what the date was, because now you played two games in January, right right, Yeah, well you got five weeks after that last that second Thursday game. They got five games left. The season goes all the way to January ninth. So maybe it's three after November. Yeah, got could be, which I don't understand. It was already tough for us after Thanksgiving anyway, that's always a barometer, right, how do we

do after Thanksgiving? Yeah, but you didn't have to play the next Thursday ever, and now you've gotten But the way they take they take care of as the wear and tear of the season, I don't know how many padded practices they would have the last month of the season anyway, just because you're people are players are so worn down to imagine the coaches would have one a week if they were. Carthy is really but he's really really, Yes he is. And we're not talking Tom Langie, Jimmy

All plus sales for that matter, yeah, or person. Okay, so left tackle is solidified, yes, and you know a lot of people can't understand it. But I've got the best way to explain it to you. How did they start the season? How does game first game? Lyle Collins started at right tackle and Terren Steele was swinging tackle. Okay, so basically now in game eight they're back to normal right Lele Collins, your right tackle steals your swing tackle, and Tyron Smith's not gonna play and so so that

means when Tyron comes back what it sounded today? And I can't remember if this was the off the record discussion with Mike or on the record. Well, we don't care about the on the record. Give us the offer. No, I think it was no drop a dime. It was it was it was on, it was on, Well make it, we want the off it's it's more interesting. Yeah, you figured that off we just want to know the duke and go back to normal. Yeah, and unless unless normal

has changed. They want Lele Collins to challenge Williams at left guard. Boy, you've you've been begging for that all this time. You've been talking to all of us. See, he knows more than he does. I'm checking this out man the Mike McCarthy Show. Say so, if you need to tell somebody something secret, we taped the show last night and I just asked you, I could I on even want to press him on the air about if he if he does not want to reveal on his own Coaches show who the starter is at left tackle,

who the starter is right tackle. I'm not gonna sit here and just tell him that Dak's spilled to be so. So we taped it. We taped it and uh, he said, trying to keep on that crap together. And the way I asked the question was, well, you got Tyron Smith looks like he's out, but you gotta like what's going on with your other tackles, Tern Steele and Lyle Collins and you will be back. And just kept it open ended for right, right right to see what he would say.

And he said, well, they're both practicing great, and we'll see what happens on Sunday. And then after after we got done with that segment, he said, maybe I should just go ahead and come out and say it, as I think it will probably get out by this. You don't know. What he said was when does this show air? I said, I said, Saturday night, thanks for watching right out in the back of the ass, right, you know he's got watching and uh, well he doesn't. He watches

it whenever we recorded. So it's funny. It's pretty cool that he's like, wait, what do you think Landry knew when his coach was Yes, he wants to know the timing of it all. Yeah, but and so we can redo that if we want. I'll go ahead and say, who really did we do what you're doing? We actually didn't redo it. Oh we were lazy. We was gonna come out anyway. He was fine what he said. But anyway, I just thought that was funny. Well, you know what

he uh he didn't realize that, dakhead right. He didn't realize last night either, that I don't think he realized this morning, say Dak basically say, oh, yeah, we we got to fix things now. At the tackle position. Terren Steele looks good going on the left side and Lele Collins goes back to the right. There you go. Well, then one player I can't remember who tweeted out the picture of Terren Steele and said our new starting left tackle.

A player tweeted that out because he sort of when he was asked the question, like it was asked like we knew, I forgot who asked it. He just kind of talked around it, saying, yeah, the tackles look really good.

And then he talked a lot about Steel and his development, and he said to the fact that he's been able to accomplish all this in a short period of time, talked about him getting stronger in the offseason and basically had said, you know, and that he was getting overmatched last year when he wasn't strong enough, but he got in the weight room and worked, and so he said, yeah, you know, it's not surprising that he said Elsie's comfortable and Terence was doing a good job. The pad work

was good. But he didn't say letter right until after we went off the record, and then then they told him to go. You know, Dak announced this and it's like Dak beat Jerry to the punch because he would have done it this morning on his radio segment. I'm sure Jerry. Jerry didn't do a radio segment this small. No, he I said he would have. Okay, I mean, it's like trying to keep it from It's like Christmas time, right,

you're trying to hide the presents from the kids. But the kids, like I was, I was going through closets and everything for my stuff. That's you guys, y'all, y'all going through you're looking under the bed. You know I didn't. I went under the tree and unwrapped the prison. What do you mean, wrapped it back again, and there you go. I like that, and pick them and shake them or anything.

I did that verse. But as soon as as soon as the parent parentals left the house, I'm opening un You know what, I don't think we had prisons under the tree because Santa Claus hadn't come yet when we were small, and you believed in Santa ya ya yea, yeah yeah yeah, yeah, right, yeah. What are you saying there were no presents? Saying spas I would say, it's

brought him Christmas Eve. Oh okay, I thought, Okay, tell us there was no stand No, the Santa brings the presidents Christmas Eve, but the rest of the family has them under the tree tree leading up to Christmas. Nothing, so you didn't I don't remember anything being under there. The only presents you got were from Santa Claus. Well who else would have brought me presents? Maybe you have siblings? No relatives when we I was okay, if I was five, my sister was two. Yeah okay, but well your parents,

your parents give you presents Santa Claus. See we we we had my parents would give me presents. Santa gives you president presents. Yeah, ye, parents, the parental gifts. Well under the tree like like yeah, as the tree went up, you stopped putting and spoils and Santa brings the big stuff. Yeah they're not wrapped. That's just that's the Santa presents aren't wrapped. Well they were for see, but that's the thing.

You know, the what do you call a preliminary presence that came from the parents and the drays okay, but then the big present, you know, it comes from Sanda. And then they're gonna have the salute the service uh for the game on Sunday. The stripes on the helmet. Um I saw where Lee Greenwood at halftime's gonna sing, uh, God bless United States, not America. It's that country song. I didn't know. I thought it was the USA. Yeah,

I guess, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yea, yea. So they're having that they're gonna wear DECLs on their helmet for the Medal of Honor museum that the Cowboys are involved building in Arlington stripe and then the red, white and blue stripes. Yea, So it's a camis flage, I guess on the sidelines for the coaches and um players that aren't playing and the Commander's Classic Football games being played tomorrow at Globely Field. Oh really, football game at the

baseball home of the Texas Rangers. You know who's playing in that? Army and Air Force? So really Army went to the Air Force. Where do they normally play that or is it at their site? I think it's home and home. Yeah, I think so. This year they're playing at Globely Field. Split the difference be the first college football game at Globely Field probably getting east of Many and they played a high school game there a week ago.

Duckinville played Cedar Hill I think there. And did they leave the configuration the way it looks like it runs from left field to the first base dugout they had enough room there. There's not much, right, just there's not much room. Uh, the left field field, left field, left field, okay, where those windows are on the left. You know the

entrance in left field, that's towards the old ballpark. Right, okay, okay, right, so it runs north south Okay, because I was trying to picture when they had the what was it the spring lead, but it was at the other at the old really cool too. They went they went the other way. They went third base or third base to right field. Hopefully they'll have the roof open um. It's supposed to be a pretty day tomorrow, so it'd be that's football

that roof of the day. Yep, it is gorgeous. Be a great day if they had a practice, But they don't practice on Fridays and Saturdays. They go indoors. Okay. I'm a little concerned, all right about people not taking this Broncos team seriously enough. Well that's I'm not saying. The people behind the scenelings down the Nike star walks they take them, that's right. I mean, when you've already won the NFC's what's the worry about. Well, I really have a buye right, is there is there cause for

concern at all. I think, um, you got your quarterback back. Everything's good again, CD. How about CD? Wasn't it good? Give us the update on CD? He forgot to ask you. Did not practice yesterday. They thought he can do maybe a little bit today. McCarthy said he thought he could do something on Saturday, but felt good about him for Sunday. So I think they're probably just resting them as much as they need to so he's able to play Sunday. So he Tyrann Smith and Blake Jarwin were the only

guys that did not practice yesterday. Coop was limited, But they feel good about him and everybody else on the Just give him that tennis ball. Practice report was full. Yeah, you can't keep him off the field, right, Just give him that tennis ball even when he shouldn't be on the field, like the Jets game and what was a twenty nineteen Yeah, and that's where the reputation started. That's where the bad reputations played one series and that was it. And they were not happy with him that he didn't

tell anybody about his injury. Yeah, And that's the thing. He's so dog on quiet, you know, And that's old school mentality, though, which is something you can admire until you try to take his play away from No. This touchdown's mind. It's so weird. As a player, I never went to the medical room or whatever. I never talked to the training It requists that because as a free agent, you can't be hurt. Can't be hurt. And I don't care how much I played. I don't care how many

all pros I made. I'd never let him know I was hurt. I remember when Patrick Creighton got here, and he might have been he was Creton probably a seventh round He was seventh round draft choice out of Little Northwestern Double Direction Oklahoma, Northwest Oklahoma and Parcels. So he's out there and he's limping around, and I remember asking him afterwards, I go, what's the deal and he goes, oh, he goes, I got some plantar fasciitis, which is bad, right,

it's harder to run on it. So it's like, and you practiced on that. He goes, seventh round pick from Northwest Northwestern Oklahoma, and Bill Parcels is the head coach. You think I can take a practice off, right, he goes, I can't. Next day he's out there and Bill's looking at him, you know, yeah Stern. Yeah, and he pushed his way through that right, was probably why he made the team. I'd love Patrick. That's the way it was, man, you know, especially talking free agent. You know, uh, I

don't care how many picks I got. I just never I never want to let them know I was hurt at any time, and you kind of pay for it a little bit. Now there's certain things and maybe could could have helped. But back then they weren't that good as they are now. Yeah, at you know, dealing with treatment and things of that nature, it's pretty still pretty wild wild West type of and by the way, CD has that same quality about him. Yes, you know. I mean he took a hit in college at ou On.

He was returning a punt and a Baylor guy lit him up. It was a penalty. I mean, he took the biggest hit I've seen a punt returner take, and he just shook it off a little bit. He should have been in concussion protocol. He was back out there for the next series. I mean, when you look at guys like CD, you can kind of hell. I don't know how you can tell, but the way they walk, the way they're built. The term is wiry, you know,

wiry to somebody wiry but strong. You don't really they look skinny, but within that their muscles seem to be so compact that they give more than you would think they would give, or they take more than you think they would take. See, he's one of those guys. It's like he's got an adaptable body. Yeah, it adapts to where takes place because the way he's built. Yeah, exactly. That's a I think that's a big thing in scouting, to be able to figure out players that have that

quality about it. Parson says that he's not wiry, you know, but he's he's got the way his body is sculpted or however you want to put it, he's got that quality about him, I think. So to get back to your original question, what concerns you about that? That's that is what I was about to ask too. UM did a little film session with Will McClay yesterday day and he broke down which is on the Coaches Show Saturday night on CBS eleven UM and across the worldwide at

night or something like that or something like that. Um. And actually the portions of the show you can find right here on Dallas Cowboys dot Com as well. What was your question? But he was breaking down um specifically Patrick Curtan, two rookies, Patrick Curtan on defense and uh and Javante Williams of running back on offense. And Sir Tan is playing very well. He's got one pick, he

got it against Jacksonville. But uh, he showed three different plays from Sir Tan, which I mean he is the prototype size these days in the you're looking for in a cornerback in this league. Uh. Well schooled out of Alabama six two six, that's right, Yeah, that's right, and U. But he picked out three plays that showed him in coverage. His pick was a deep ball that he pressed the receiver to the sideline and made the made the pick

while the receiver. Basically he with his rear end pushed the receiver out of bounds and made the interception himself on the sideline and coming up in supporting the run as well, which he did a lot at Alabama. But and then Javante Williams, the second round pick out of North Carolina, who was the third running back taken in the draft. He had Naigie Harris, who went first to Pittsburgh and Travis Etien. Maybe et N went before and went to Jacksonville, but they were both first round. Early

second round. Denver took Javonte Williams out of North Carolina. That guy he showed three plays on two of them, he showed Javante Williams breaks there. It took seven defenders finally to bring the guy down. It showed quickness with his feet in the whole power and speed. North Carolina seventy eight carries three fifty five four point six to carry with a forty nine yard long one touchdown, and the last play. He showed three plays of him on

two of them. There were he counted one, two, three, four, five six. Seven defenders hit him on the and finally brought him down and uh, and then the other one it was a long run and then he showed his vertical he jumps over the last defender in the in the secondary. I mean, he's got great athletics. I loved him coming out. I thought I had him right up there the most the best running back coming out. So

but they're easy. They've eased him in because he and Melvin Gordon are basically they both have a little under four hundred yards. I think so far this Marton has three ninety seven, but they're both averaging. Gordon's four point five, he's four point six. There you go, there you go.

And so even though you know the Broncos are not scoring a lot of points, and you know they've maybe struggled offensively, especially by the Cowboys standards, my fear in this game would be them keeping it close, you know, and playing a ball control game and then having a chance in the fourth quarter. Yeah. No, you're exactly right. And they got the number two scoring defense in the league.

That's what I was going to say. Yes, the defense is very good and regards to scoring, Yeah, their defense, I'm trying to remember what I figured out one thirty seven. They're they're they're giving up seventeen point three five a game. So anytime you're holding teams to no more than seventeen, you got a chance to Now, having said that, yes, having said that, the good team first three games of

the season they won, And who did they play? The Giants they won twenty seven thirteen, the Bags they won twenty three thirteen, and the Jets they won twenty six To not think and we saw enough of the Jets last night. Then they last a season, then they turn around and they're on their third quarterback now right the Jets? Yeah, oh yeah, what's the kids, Bobinson? This was Josh Johnson, like, Gosh Johnson, Yeah, we've been around a while. They started

listing out every team he played for last night. It must have got to eight. I swear it just kept going and going and going. He touchdown passes though, I know. And so then they lose four in a row, Baltimore twenty three seven at Pittsburgh twenty seven, nineteen, Vegas thirty four, twenty four, Cleveland seventeen or nineteen four, seventeen fourteen, and

then last week be Washington seventeen to ten. So against the decent teams they played against, I think you can say Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Vegas, Cleveland, they lost all four of them, and and then against the really bad teams they won. So there you go, you go. So that means they're gonna lose on Sunday. So I say, I don't care you know when. And I kept getting this question during the week, and it was it was like, well, I don't know what you have to worry about with Denver.

I think this is one of those games you have to worry about yourself. If you go out and play the way you're supposed to play, you go out and win the game. That's why I have my pick to click the way it is. That's right, and you respect your opponent, right, but you you respect them by whipping the assidus whip the way they're supposed to be whipped. You know they don't. You don't let up. Man, Thanks for coming, glad to have you, and it could be

one of those games that's close to start. And then you know, when I was going back and for my column today, I was I was talking about how this team. You know, people are like, well, why are they winning? It's like with their making plays. It's not like they're just running over everybody the whole time. They're making plays

when it's important. But I think the issue I forgot the halftime score with the Giants was ten ten ye, right, and then it was seventeen thirteen before the Cowboys scored seventeen straight points, So it was it was a close game. You got to hang in there on some of these tough situations, and this one might be the same. Just because of what you said they're going to try to control the clock, run the ball, test that Cowboy defense against the run, and see if they can keep the

Cowboys offense off the field. That's the best way to stop the Cowboys offense. Don't let them on the field. Well, the best, the best case scenario for them, for the blocos would be run the ball, keep it away from them. Let's just use up the clock as much as we can. And you haven't experienced quarterback and throw deep because, as we saw in so many games, either complete it or good chance. The other twenty five thirty percent is you're going to get an interference. And that's what I say.

You have an experienced quarterback that can go through that, you know, with as few mishaps as possible. From the Broncos standpoint, so yes, in that regard, I think that's going to keep it close. I am tired of being conservative with this team. You know, I think we're better than I'm afraid to think that they're as good as they are as as a fan, I'm afraid to say that. That's why my picks are always kind of close. I'm

gonna stop doing that. I'm gonna find out how non conservative Everson Walls will be with his pick to click and his pick to win on Sunday when mix shots continues to them all, honey, big news scary are you? Okay? Oh?
